10:09 am
tda? >> i believe we will see if there will be a level of desperation. we know on january 20th, all the things of the border are going to change. the president has promised to end to catch and release, this vicious gang has infiltrated all over the united states. that is coming to an end, so people believe that the smugglers will full them to get to the pipeline now before trump policies take over, and the front line gets to do the job all over again. we are all facing risks from this gang that are unnecessary. they didn't exist in the united states before 2022. now, they are all over the country, and there is a level of desperation at the border. you know that the men and women on the frontline are going to be prepared for any kind of surge before the 20th, whether it is 3:00 a.m. or three in the afternoon. they are capable of protecting themselves and operating safely, but also being able to stop any surges. you know that for the last four
10:10 am
years, they have had to augment a couple of places along the border to handle thousands of people coming in every 24 hours. that traffic is muted, but they are prepared if it does come back or there is an immediate rush at the border. >> you raise a good point. that is that the tda surge is unprecedented. we can show you on a map, they have a foothold in 17 states and counting. you can see the map from coast-to-coast, and you are right. the data does not register a single criminal arrest of a venezuelan tda gang member until fiscal year 2023. i have interviewed chief owns of the border patrol, and pj -- from ice. neither had heard of this gang and had to deal with it until this administration. i want to ask you. here's tom homan talking about the threats and cracking down. listen. >> i have been born to that

right out of the gate we will concentrate on public safety threats. i have mayors and governors sitting there doing everything to prevent me from arresting public safety threats. the number of migrants who have died crossing this border, a record number: almost 4,000. how many lives have we lost -- migrants and u.s. citizens -- until they get a sense that a secure border saves lives? >> i take him at his word. have known him for a long time. the crackdown is coming, but do you anticipate that eradicating tda will be more difficult task that they own it might appear? >> they don't play by the same rules. it is a gang. by nature, they do what they want when they want. but they are vulnerable to removal. like we just said, they ot here. they have infiltrated a lot of places in the united states but none have legal status. they are vulnerable to deportations and criminal arrests for what they are doing. if they get into custody by local authorities or if the
10:12 am
justice department goes after them or ice fugitive operations teams. when the deportation effort starts, these will be among the first people they will target, but they are vulnerable. once they are sent out of the country it will be difficult for them to come back. >> the last thing on that. are you concerned -- it appears to me that when you have got new york that is a sanctuary jurisdiction, and california governor gavin newsom spending millions trying to protect migrants from deportations, that particularly, more tda members will try to seek out the sanctuary jurisdiction's to try find better protection? >> criminals will do that. they will go to places like new york, the state of california which is a so-called sanctuary. this is a destructive policy that needs to end so i'm hopeful that part of the things on the list in the new administration, and it is pretty long with regard to borders and safe streets. i would like the justice department to leverage their authority to hand out grants for law enforcement agencies and
10:13 am
state so they can pull back on some of that to incentivize these policies, to do with the sanctuary status, especially for criminal gang members. >> quickly before we run out of time, i wanted to ask you -- i send two programs that have spent millions that provide social services for migrants. i've talked to my ice sources today, and they said the program was not consistent with law enforcement goals, and it proved ineffective. it ended the program, as if they -- the waste before -- got to town. your reaction to this news. >> ice is a law enforcement agency. the funds shouldn't be diverted for social services regardless of who the recipients are. let other social service agencies do that. put them back in the business of enforcing the law. that's why they are there. >> thank you for taking the time. have a happy new year.
10:14 am
we look forward to talking to you as the new administration comes in and to the crackdown begins. thank you. >> happy new year. >> happy new year. it is remarkable. we have talked a lot about the tren the aragua -- executive orders and all that stuff, but this gang. cover the border for more than a decade at fox. i have never seen a specific group of migrants set up shop and the chief of the border patrol, the current acting director of ice tell me that they have literally gotten a foothold across the country. it's going to be allowed to undo. >> you are right. it's organized, and that is the problem. we have given them a time. to become disorganized, this gang needed time. under the biden administration, they had so much time, not to mention they were freely bussed all over the country so they have reached towns. how they find them? it's impossible to track them all down because they've had so

10:21 am
he is putting out a statement already, saying that if congress does not act, it will be a major tax hike for everyday americans. some 22%. he says for the past four years, americans have watched high prices eat away at their paychecks and financial well-being. at 22% tax increase would only compound that pain, particularly for lower income americans living paycheck to paycheck. elon musk is chiming in on the tax debate as well, arguing that the u.s. tax code is way too many pitches and needs to be drastically simplified. democrats are arguing new trump tax cuts will only help people like him: the rich. the senate president pro tem writing on x "republicans want to extend the trump tax cuts that gave handouts to billionaires and megacorporations while forcing the middle class to foot the bill." democrats also say that
10:22 am
extending the trump tax cuts will add to the national debt, but republicans point to recent treasury data, which shows that tax revenue actually jumped 45% from november of 2017 to this month. this bolsters their argument, republicans argument, as they go into this battle in the new year. >> grady trimble live at the white house, thank you. julie? >> meanwhile, americans are piling on debt unlike ever before. many are starting off the new year defaulting on credit card payments. on fox business.com, this is the headline. "u.s. credit card defaults soar to the highest level in 14 ye years. fox business anchor david has been joins me now. i know a lot of americans are hoping for a stronger economy in 2025 -- let's hope they get it -- but who is to blame for the record high consumer debt we are suffering from? >> it's pretty simple, julie. the fact is that inflation
10:23 am
during the biden administration has outpaced wages. that means a dollar earned today does not buy as much as it did four years ago. a lot of americans, in order to get the stuff that they need, are paying with credit cards rather than with cash. $47 billion has just been wiped away by a lot of credit card companies as bad debts. of course, the people that incurred those bad debts will never get a good credit rating again because of that. it's a terrible situation. you also have the interest rate situation. while the fed just lowered interest rates, or the one interest rate that they can lower or raise, they lowered it about two weeks ago. real interest rates in the real world have government. an average 30-year fixed mortgage has gone from 6.1% four months ago to 6.7% today. it's simple.
10:24 am
interest rates are up because banks have to lend out hopefully to get paid back in real dollars. that is how they make their money. they are betting that inflation is going up, so you add up the debt load americans now have come of the fact that they are not able to buy as much as they used to with the interest rates going up, and it's a terrible situation. this connects to grady's piece before. that's why we desperately need to extend the trump tax cuts, and probably get in more tax cuts like the president was saying for tips and overtime pay and everything. americans just need more money in their pockets. it's very simple. if we wait until the end of 2025 for those tax cuts from 2017 expiring, 65% of american taxpayers are going to get a tax increase. >> that's not a good number. this report, according to the "financial times," that during the first nine months a loan of 2024, lenders had to write off
10:25 am
more than $46 billion. delinquent credit card loans. that's huge. it's also an increase of 50% from the first three quarters of 2023. the highest we have seen since 2010. what do you predict for 2025? a lot of people have seen donald trump coming in and that we would turn a corner and that the economy would get stronger but it's not going to happen overnight. what do we do? >> it's not going to happen overnight, although it could happen sooner rather than later. if they put tax extensions, tax cut extensions as their number one priority or at least on par with what's happening at the border, we could money and americans pockets quickly, particularly those people who are working overtime, getting tips, et cetera. it's got to be at the top of the trump priority. were under that old saying, it's the economy, stupid remember the old saying: it's the economy, stupid. if we get tax increases in the beginning of 2026, that means
