[cheers] ♪ ♪ this is my one resolution. >> griff: good morning welcome back to the second hour of "fox & friends" very special new year day that was the scene in times square a few hundred feet from where we are right i guess early this morning. thankfully that's not the scene there now. most of those people have found either breakfast or a bed because it was pretty quiet out there when i came in this morning. >> nicole: there were still a few people out and about. i would say definitely united qd down. clean up crews making their way through. didn't have that smell of urine that usually welcomes me every morning when i come in.

>> griff: you mention the clean up crews. our hats off to the sanitation folks. really quite remarkable as someone who has been in times square as a reporter. to watch literally moments after the ball dropped the crowd started dispersing because thessalonians they have been there 12-plus hours. the sanitation crews come in and by the time you get a cup of coffee you will see clean streets and nobody does it better than new york in terms of being not only putting police last night went off without a hitch. no incidents of note. also the clean up to return times square to the way it normally is. but it was quite something last night. and it's a new year. we made it. >> 2025. here we are. >> griff: i got a feeling. >> you and the rest of the world. every poll shows people are more optimistic and excited for 2025. earlier when we were talking about resolutions we asked our fox viewers what are your new year's resolutions and the emails have been pouring. in the first one from bill in

language gets the brain firing. >> griff: what language. >> nicole: i already speak spanish, english. the easy thing would be italian. i am italian. it is romance language piggybacks on spanish. i'm taking suggestions. >> griff: what about mandarin. >> nicole: that's commitment. >> joey: talking about learning a new language i'm still learning english, maybe my resolution to be a little bit sharper on english. for me it's real easy. i want to take more risks and aggressive about things i'm going to do. people hear that he is going to start a business no, for me that might be walking down a hill without a handrail. i will take more risks and gets more aggressive on things. somebody who has no problem taking a risk or getting aggressive on things is about to be the 47th president of the

the country industry going a wrong direction we want it to go a different way. in this toast whether he intended to do it specifically or not kept that connection he had with them and the mandate that he believes he has now for the country. >> nicole: speaking of the mandate. earlier this week giving his endorsement for mike johnson and again talking a little bit last night, one of the things he is doing is putting republicans on notice, you need to get behind and you need to make sure that by the time i take office, that we are able to move forward because republicans have always been their own worst enemy. just thinking about last year and we had to have a stalled congress because they had 15 votes just to get mccarthy in. as we know that didn't last very long and didn't go well. i think by endorsing speaker johnson he is saying you need to get this done. you will not delay me and all the progress that i have promised to the american people. >> joey: the thing that people need to remember that his agenda is not conservatism. the agenda is america first populism. all that infighting that is

happening among republicans over the conservative movement doesn't really effect him in the way that he is trying to prosecute his own agenda, which is to make the border close you had, make the country safe. push the economy forward. and this is him speaking on his endorsement of speaker johnson. >> looking forward, i think we are going to have great time in washington. i think we are going to great great support. people like him. almost everyone likes him. others are good too. they have 30 or 40 people that don't like him. that's pretty tough. >> are you calling members on his behalf? >> if ceary. i think really we are going to have a great time. we are going to get a successful vote. is he a good man. is he a wonderful person. and that's what you need. >> joey: brings a very pragmatic approach he is the one that kin with. there are others, 30 or 40 people don't like them. he doesn't weigh in on how the budget is passed or something if

they need to fight over. at the white house level, give me the money i need to go do the things i want to do. griff griff here is the problem 48 hours away from the 119th congress coming into session. the first thing they will do is vote for speaker. we already know how tight the math is there is 219. you need 218. 219 republicans, # 18 to pass. we already know that thomas massi doubled down even with the trump endorsement he respects the incoming president but yet is he going it vote against johnson. and you have a handful of thin sitters representative victoria spartz and tim burchett hasn't committed how he will vote. this is either posturing by wish list of some things they want. some cases a committee assignment which is a bit selfish considering the g.o.p. disarray that would unfold if

these members put their personal agendas aheaded of the grader good. if you do anything resembling what we saw last time 15 votes over four days throw a wrench in quickly getting to the agenda. that president-elect trump wants which is the border, the tax cut extennation and the debt cereal and all the other things. we are going to learn a lot come friday midday about exactly how that is going to go. >> nicole: very narrow margin and all it will take victoria spartz was to vote for someone else, it could stop the vote. if she votes herself present and everyone else votes for him, except for massi then it would go through. as you said there is still a couple on the fence. there are going to be mean tweets if this vote doesn't go through. >> griff: we will see where that goes. meanwhile a fox news alert. a new year's tragedy unfolding in new orleans earlier this morning. >> nicole: multiple people are

dead and at least 30 have been hospitalized after a car plowed into the crowd. >> joey: chanley painter joins us now. chanley, what do we know so far. >> it is a developing story. but we have confirmed at least 10 penal are dead after a car drove into a large crowd celebrating new year's on c canl and bourbon street. at least 30 people had to be hospitalized this happened on undowntownedly one of the busiest nights of the year the sugar bowl taking place later today. still a huge police presence at the scene. including the fbi, the coroner's office and the mayor also said to be at that scene looked outside and body were on the floor. will louisiana governor jeff landrieu posting on x. horrific act of violence took

literally hours ago. >> joey: we talk about new york city and crime and what happens on the subway and things being randomly punched or shot. new orleans has been hit by what we call a crime epidemic. in 201 i went to the sugar bowl and walked around but bon street the entire french quarter i didn't think twice about it. a bunch of football fans, nothing felt unsafe or dangerous or even, you know, bad in any way. and then by the time i revisited at a different time of year in 2022, i was told hey, you wanting to stay in the garden district and don't be in the french quarter at night. that's how much it had turned to the worst. here is a tragic example of that in new orleans. >> nicole: the city has hit bad with tourism e.p.a. and covid lockdowns. they had a hard time recovering. people traveling and being there for festivities. looked like absolutely

beautiful. heard bore this story, so many questions, is this a drunk driver that inadvertently went off the road and accidently hit. when you started hearing about the gunfire and realizing this probably was intentional that has killed 10 people. 30 still in the hospital. we don't know if any more are going to die. it's devastating and not news that you want to bring in the new year. this is the reality that cities all across the r country are facing. high crimes, economic instability. people are not in a good place, which is why looking forward to 2025 people are beginning to feel hopeful. promises that president-elect trump is making and the plans that he has for the country on how to get crime under control and. >> griff: thank goodness that law enforcement and first responders were working and able to respond. we know so far at this moment, a developing story 10 dead, 30 hurt after car plowed into a

canola oil, corn, cotton seed, grape seed. you can see them all on there. people ask why are seed oils so bad? they are highly refeigned. there is a lot of chemicals involved in that process, they bleach, deodor rise it. strips all the nutrients from it. while there are omega 6s. we want to have omegas in our diet why i recommend eating walnuts and salmon. when you have too many omega 6s you get from seed oils causes imbalance and lead to inflammation and lead to autoimmune diseases, arthritis, cancer and other things. when you are thinking you are having omegas to help your heart health you are actually causing inflammation that can leads to poor heart condition. my recommendation what i always cook with extra virgin 08 live oil. also use avocado oil and even

this is more complex, more serious, based on the information we have right now. with respect to numbers. we have right now and as you already know, this could change throughout the day. we do know that there are 26 injured people who are at umc hospital. we know we have four at tempetourrow. four at auctionner baptist. one at tulane. even as i i was walking out the door oncology firmed additional people taken to other area hospitals, possibly on the east side. we will give you as many correct numbers as we can as the day progressives tragic as we know we have 10 people that this man

killed on bourbon street many that is why we do not want people on bourbon street today. wherever you see yellow tape please do not violate. this tape is an order to protect and stabilize the scene we have information to a certain degree of demographics those in the hospital right now. we do not know at this point how many could be tourists versus locals but from the information i have right now it seems the majority are locals versus tourists what i also can tell you this man, this perpetrator, he fired on our officers from his vehicle when he crashed his

vehicle two of our officers have been shot. they are stable and we will give you an update on them. i have yet been able to go to the hospital. i will be leaving here for us to go visit our officers. we have called in every officer that we have. we have so much appreciated our partnerships who have also offered us staff. last night we had over 300 officers out here. and because of the intentional mindset of this perpetrator who went around our barricades in order to conduct this, he was hell bent on creating a carnage and the damage that he did. because of the nature and indices that we have on the scene and we have enough information that the fbi will be

along with police superintendent and now the special agent in charge of the fbi. the fbi now in the lead of this tragedy and you point out rightfully so, joey, that there was conflicting information in the update they just gave not taking any questions, which really they should have because the mayors one of her first words this was a terrorist attack. and, of course, the superintendent of the police department there saying that this individual was, quote: hell bent and then the fbi special agent in charge duncan taking the lead saying that there may be ieds, something you are familiar with in this city so we really need much more information that appears there is not going to be another press conference for a few hours. we will continue reaching out to find out more. >> nicole: again, we are a little confused. the mayor came out and immediately said this is a terrorist attack. the superintendent kirkpatrick coming out saying this was intentional. this male at about 3:15 a.m. was

driving as fast as he possibly could down the street and tried to hit as many people as possible and then, upon crashing his own car, started firing upon officers. hitting two of them in the hospital, according to the superintendent they are in stable condition right now. 26 injured have been sent to university medical center, which is a level 1 trauma. several others baptist and tulane. the information is 10. joey, as you point out you have special agent duncan hot superintendent said because of the way that this was performed that the fbi is going to be taking over does lead us to believe they are leaning towards a terrorist attack. special agent duncan immediately says this is not considered a terrorism event at this moment but then goes in saying that possible ieds. >> joey: let's talk about what they did tell us. this was not a dui.

just given there. i got to tell you a little bizarre. the mayor coming on saying terror. the police chief coming on and sasaying what she said and tellg everybody to have great time today assistant to the fbi saying it's not a terror attack and taking over. let me tell you something if this was not a terror attack, the fbi would not be taking over this case. then you listen to the fact that there were ieds involved, they did not say anything about the suspect. they didn't say -- they did say he shot two police officers did they shoot him? take him into custody? what happened to him? i'm taken aback by the brevity of this press conference and then the kind of distorted information between the different leadership.

>> nicole: are are things you anticipate these crowds and what do you think happened? >> you heard that they had 300 officers attached to the bourbon street area. anybody who has ever been to new orleans during any type of mardi gras or party, you know, new orleans is a very, very sophisticated city when it comes down to law enforcement response to large crowds. they know what they are doing. they have handled large crowds for years and years and years. so they are not strangers to handling large crowds, but they also are very cognizant of the fact that they want to -- they don't want to inhibit the crowd, so they don't block off the streets per se. with large barriers as we have

seen in other areas. so, it would be almost impossible, unless they set barriers up. concrete barriers to stop a situation like this when you are using a vehicle as a weapon. >> joey: randy, you make a good point. they came out early in the press conference and said this was a terrorist attack. that was backed up with this is very intentional with what we know and then both from the superintendent and the fbi agent you have kind of a change in tone almost immediately and this idea of go out and have a good time and fbi agent saying we don't know if she presidents spoke. we are not saying she did. we are curious saying this is not a terrorist attack. if you all of those words face value and put them together, you start to form the idea that they know this person was doing something intentional but they don't have reason to believe it's connected to other threats. can you pull that away from this or is it just so convoluted you can't get near it?

>> yeah. at this point, we can't make any decisions about here is the only difference between, you know, a mass murder and terrorist attack. is there an ideology attached to this? >> joey: motivation. >> if this was a mass murder attack, which clearly it was, it can't be terrorist related. it can be terrorists related but it doesn't have to be. the suspect is what is key determining whether it's terrorist or not. the fact that the fbi is taking the lead in the case is a big indicator. >> griff: well, as we look like now, you are seeing new orleans along canal street. just after 3:00 a.m. canal and bourbon street. this tragedy unfolded. an individual who we do not know what his motives were. randy, it really does, furthering the point you are just making. so we know from the superintendent, particularly the police superintendent, that the

individual was hell-bent. that it was an intentional mindset as joey sort of laid out for us. it was a multi layered create the chaos and then carry out the second punch. if it wasn't terrorism, what would it be? >> the only other thing it could be is a deranged individual that wanted to commit mass murder. this has all the earmarks of terrorism related attack if you don't know don't say anything to the public. what was just created here by the state and by the fbi was that grew more. conjecture.

what is terrorism. there is definition are you trying to enact political change? then there is this idea are you just trying to terrorize people? i think really why this matters is that someone who was inspired to go create terror on his own or is he inspired by someone or is he working in concert with someone? and i would imagine, quickly, you would handle those two scenarios differently. >> absolutely. and here's the i shouldn't be as critical as i am being right now. in a dynamic situation like this. where you have a mass casualty, you know, information and then disseminate it in a form that that is understandable and legitimate it's a challenge perspective of the mayor and chief of police and -- here's the thing.
