>> griff: fox news alert. fbi on the hunt for more suspects saying it does not believe the new orleans terror suspect acted alone before killing 15 people on new year's. >> lawrence: we are learning homemade bombs were found inside the suspect's truck. sandra smith madison is in new orleans with the latest details. >> hi. investigators are combing through evidence in multiple states to figure out why this happened and authorities do not believe this suspect acted alone. it has been only 24 hours since 42-year-old shamsud din jabbar plowed a rental truck into crowds of people, killing at least 15, injuring dozens and traumatize ing countless people.
5:02 am
we've been speaking to witnesses, this may be difficult to hear. >> just traumatic parts of human nature, what anyone is capable of, like bodies managing ed editoreled and strown, unrecognizable. >> blessed to be alive, grateful, but you are not happy. >> fbi says there was isis flag and multiple ieds in the truck jabbar was driving. how did the texas-born u.s. citizen become radicalized? fbi is carrying out a search warrant in houston that is believed to be jabbar's. joint terrorism task force are expected to clear the area soon, we are told there could be explosives inside of the home. we are expecting to hear from
5:03 am
officials, state and local, at some point today. still a lot of unanswered questions, hopefully more insight in the coming hours. >> sandra: thank you so much. >> lawrence: learning about the 15 people killed in the terror attack in new orleans. father of two, reggie hunter was on bourbon street celebrating with his cousin when he was killed, according to his family. >> sandra: louisiana native tiger besh was in his home state for the holiday, a former princeton football playstationer and nikera dado had snuck off to bourbon street to ring inlet new year. she was a nurse and described as ball of sunshine. >> griff: nicole perez leaves behind a four-year-old son.
5:04 am
other victims kareem bo dowry and hubert guthrow. he was reported missing. and matthew teniadori. other victims names have not been released, keeping their families in our prayers. >> sandra: a girl going out to have fun on new year's eve. horrific as we learn more details. 15 dead and so many you have issering serious injuries and anti anticipating update as soon as possible. >> griff: let's bring in
5:05 am
louisiana governor jeff landry live from new orleans. governor, get to the latest. we read the names, bringing home reality of the tragedy that occurred 24 hours ago, take your governor hat off, how is this impacting you? >> yeah, look, taking my governor hat off and putting my father hat on, it is a somber day here in the city and around louisiana. we have parents that are going to make funeral arrangements as we speak. that are waiting to have their loved ones released to them. each of those is reminder of terrorism that exists and evil out there that they want to inflict on america. so again, we continue to have outpouring of prayer and support
5:06 am
for families. as you walk through the list, a lot of those are louisianans. i will go to the crime scene this morning and walk through it hoping to reach out and talk to some of the parents and make sure they are getting support they need so they can start to work on some closure. again, it is prayers and support and only thing that will get them through is our faith. >> lawrence: we are praying for your state from the state of texas. we are neighbors, know bourbon street too well, it is known as a happy place. i want your thoughts on the investigation. there is a lot of back and forth about the state of emergency and still having the game, as well. we were told there are co-conspirators out there, based on information you are getting. is there still a threat of
5:07 am
people who helped this guy do this out there in louisiana? >> i think one of the most important things is to make sure each victim did not die in vein. all of them had come to the city in order to enjoy the city and enjoy entertainment and ring in the new year. you had an eyewitness on earlier that said we can't live in fear, we need to live our lives. as we remember those folks that we put new orleans back in a position where people can come and have a good time. we believe that the city, i'm convinced the city is safe. this can happen in any city. we issued an executive order, emergency declaration, we have 100 military police officers on the ground and the sheriff sent
5:08 am
additional resources and fbi is pouring resources in. we are getting more today. i hope to update media mid-morning and hope to have more information to be able to give to the media. we want transparenciy, we want answers, there are a lot of people that want answers, why, what happened and we'll get to those. we want to make sure we don't impede the investigation moving forward. >> sandra: thank you for your time this morning, there is a lot happening at this hour as far as federal investigation on the ground. to your point, in your words, unite hunting the bad people down. there is suggestion there are more people involved, this was somehow a coordinated effort. what can you tell us right now? >> as much as i would like to report that, we don't want to put out speculation or
5:09 am
information we have not been able to confirm and that is what i think is important. if we put something out and it is not true or accurate, we are back inside of a bad news cycle and giving people and especially those families out there mixed emotions and mixed information. we want information to be completely accurate. we're going to ensure everyone involved in this horrific act of terrorism is going to be held accountable. >> griff: governor -- >> lawrence: sorry, real quick, there is conflicting information. you are telling people it is safe, but you have co-conspirators out there and to layer on getting information. we had your attorney general whos she has not been briefed
5:10 am
about people they brought into custody. if your chief law enforcement officer is not briefed about people out there, how can people have confidence? >> well, look, i can tell you this, i am in the city right now, i'm going to attend the sugar bowl this afternoon. i will be around. we are going to be briefing the media about mid-morning. i don't know about the comments the attorney general made, again, that is part of why we try not to engage in speculation. every elected official should use information directly from law enforcement and from louisiana state police and the fbi and not continue to feed on inuendo. i've been trying to be couched on information i report to media because of that. i can tell you that we believe that based upon information
5:11 am
we're getting from the federal government and my louisiana state police this city is safe as it has been. this can happen in any city. we had an incident in las vegas yesterday. there are a lot more resources and law enforcement in the city of new orleans right now than there were 24 hours ago. again, the end of the day, we need not let fear paralyze us, that is the problem in this country. when we do that, terrorists win. >> griff: i understand that point and governor, there are two sides of the argument, safety and security and re resilience not letting terrorists win. you mentioned las vegas, couple time zones apart, the country started it is year with terror attacks and it fright ened them.
5:12 am
are you getting realtime information from investigators about whether or not there may be a connection between las vegas and what happened in your city? >> we're getting briefings from the fbi almost on an hourly basis, again, i'll tell you this, only way to protect people from evil is to crush it. believe you me inauguration day can't come soon enough. one person that understands that is donald trump. i can tell you this, too, his homeland security pick, governor kristi noem, who i served with in congress understands that, as well. they are anying to work with us to put policies in place to protect american people and not criminals out there. >> sandra: you are heading to the sugar bowl tonight, anything you can share about your plans and what security will look like? >> look, security will be tight.
5:13 am
we have all confidence we're going to put this game on, super dome is completely secure. again, fbi continues to poury are sources into the state. we hope to update you all on exactly what those resources look like as the best we can. not getting into specifics, giving y'all a 50,000 foot view of resources that have been poured into the city. >> sandra: we are with you and support your efforts and thank you for everything you are doing there. our heart breaks for people of your state and those visiting at the time. thanks, governor. >> lawrence: another fox news alert. learning more about the driver of that rented tes latruck who was killed in that blast. >> griff: chanley painter is here with more. what can you tell us? >> chanley: police identified
5:14 am
the person driving that tesla truck, he is believed to be colorado springs native, the person was killed in that explosion, others were you hurt. they traced the vehicle back to colorado using footage at tesla charging stations. investigators are trying to determine if there is a keksz to the incident in las vegas. >> we are investigating connectivity to what happened in new orleans and other tack tag attacks around the world. >> chanley: the vehicles were rented from the same ride-sharing company, turo. our prayers are with victims and families, we are actively partnering with law enforcement authorities as they investigate.
5:15 am
there was input from elon musk, evil knuckleheads picked the wrong vehicle. even the glass doors of the lobby of the hotel were not broken. guys. >> griff: thank you. you know, we are going to learn more about similarities that may or may not exist between it. i was telling the governor, the country woke up to being afraid of terror because of two incidents, whether connected or not just hours apart. when you talk to paul paul mauro about the connections other than obvious, here is what he told you.
5:16 am
paul mauro. >> paul: it is a concern, what it argues is press conference in vegas may not have been an accident. it was relatively symbolic, no one person speaking for the room, talking to media and american people and that was the distinction we saw. we did not get more from vegas, but you had single-person leadership. kicked it to other people when he needed special information, but one person was running it. >> sandra: the governor just said there will be updates coming in the next few hours and throughout the day. he said he is about to go back to the scene this morning. to paul's point, when this is run at the local law enforcement
5:17 am
level, you have the police chief come give updates often and public can hear updates. at the federal level with the fbi leading the investigation on the ground, paul is suggesting there should be more of a point person to come out to the media so it does not lead to speculation. >> lawrence: louisiana press conference was a free for all. that was one of the worst press conferences i've seen in my life. i don't care if you have d or r next to your name, you can't have a state of emergency and have four people, three or four people out there saying everything is fine going to be fine. security measures are in place and the ag saying she is not being briefed by the fbi. i understand wanting to inspire confidence in people, you don't let them win by preventing
5:18 am
attacks from happening. information void is massive right now. we'll see what happens, i want to give them time to bring this all together, it is not providing information, it is sufficient answers, they have not been able to do that. >> griff: and conflicting answers we saw in first pres conference when associate said it wasn't terrorism and it was. >> sandra: we hope for updates soon. top headline, fox news alert. shooting last night outside queens nightclub. 10 hurt after a shooter fired 30 shots into a crowd. victims between ages of 16 and 20 years old are expected to survive. officials are investigated if this is gang related, they say it is not terrorism. a and -- investigation continues
5:19 am
into fiery plane crash that killed 179 people on sunday. that move coming as officials carried out raids on the airline's offices and at the airport where the crash occurred. proposed house gop rules package would make it harder to oust the speaker in next congress. it would require nine republicans to trigger vote on removing the speaker. we spoke with speaker mike johnson about a vote on his reelection set for tomorrow. >> does we have to get this done. i'm humbled and honored to have president trump's endorsement. we cannot afford drama here, we have to get congress started which begins tomorrow and certify election of donald trump on monday, january 6. there is no time to wastes, they
5:20 am
will vote yes because we are shifting into new paradigm, we have unified government that begins tomorrow. >> sandra: and speaker mike johnson meeting with president trump at mar-a-lago. and message to republicans, fall in line here. we will see if they will. speaker johnson suggested they will. >> lawrence: we'll be following it. ted williams joins us with new orleans police superintendent kirkp kirkpatrick. ted, over to you. >> griff: ted, what does the superintendent kirkpatrick have to say there? >> i'm here in new orleans in french quarters here with chief of police for new orleans police department ann kirkpatrick. chief kirkpatrick, where are you in the investigation? >> this is an fbi investigation. so they are the lead agency.
5:21 am
they are making a lot of progress in the last 24 hours. i will be meeting with emthis soon for an update on the investigation. >> i watched you yesterday at the press conference and you talked about accomplices, where are you in that part of the investigation? can you give us information the public can use? >> as i said, fbi has taken the lead, i would not use word accomplice, there are people of interest, whether or not they are associated. this is not an accomplice situation, as of yet. we are about to have another briefing, they are looking at anyone and everyone who could have been affiliated and it may be they are not and it may be this is a lone wolf, we do not have final confirmation, we are going to as a you community of
5:22 am
law enforcement will continue to be looking for other actors, if there are. it is not a final decision on that and it is the fbi who will make that call. >> what you are saying is there may actually not be accomplices, this is a part of the investigation. >> that is correct. we will look at potential people of interest to make that decision. it will be the fbi who is investigating that. we do not have accomplices, we do not have suspects, we would have people of interest, they will be ruled in or out. >> i know you have toun are, i would like to ask you, the super bowl will be held here in a few weeks, what would you say to individuals who have reservations about coming here to new orleans for the super bowl? >> i think they should plan
5:23 am
oncoming and like today, the sugar bowl today will be held this afternoon. we in new orleans have proven time in and time out that we can provide safe environments. look at taylor swift a few weeks ago, incredible environment of fun, they can come and know they are safe. we have know plas, this is a terrorist, terrorist will be hell bent to create carnage and destroy but we as city and law enforcement community have proven over time that we can handle and manage large crowds. super bowl still in play. we will harden our targets. we will correct any kind of gaps there have been. those will be corrected and you will see today, you will experience today what we can do.
5:24 am
>> my last question to you, we know there was barriers and those barriers were being repaired and replaced. as a result of that, the terrorist killer went around the beararriers on the sidewalk. what can you tell us about that portion of the investigation? scombl you will see this afternoon, we are using heavier equipment, not just patrol cars, to harden the target. >>ef choo chief, i wish you the best and condolences to the 15 souls. >> i am sorry for the grief people are going through today, i am so proud of our officers, they engaged this terrorist, they were in a gun fight, two
5:25 am
officers were shot. they will recover. because of their bravery and courage, they stopped him three blocks in versus six blocks in. i'm proud of them, grateful for them and proud to be a new orleans police officer. >> i think new orleans should be proud to you have as chief of police and i thank you. >> thank you. thank you. guys, we just wrapped up this interview here with the chief of police here in new orleans, louisiana. the one thing that we learned from her more than anything else is that there may or may not be accomplices. this is all a part of the investigation that is being conducted by the fbi.
5:26 am
>> sandra: indeed. >> lawrence: thanks, ted. >> sandra: great stuff, thank you. lawrence that announcement, would be counter to what the fbi said yesterday. >> sandra: they are not ruling anything out. >> lawrence: to say there are accomplices and you are pursuing a manhunt and to retract that and demote to suspects or persons of interest, which is legal jargon for people out there, i think it is conflicting information. they have to be clear about this. the second thing, theyed need to understand what mission failure is, they failed yesterday. i applaud rank and file, they go out and do their job everyday. people at the top should not go out and say everything is under
5:27 am
control, things are out of control. especially when people are able to go on the sidewalk and in other cities there are security barriers because we have had threats before. there need to be a full assessment and they need to get language conyou cystent. >> sandra: huge thank you to the police officers who did exchange gunfire and killed the suspect driving the vehicle and i'm sure you saw video of the police that got the call and went running toward the scene. thank you for their efforts. >> griff: law enforcement source in new orleans sent me video of the shoot out that is not suitable for television, it is too graphic, but to superintendent kirkpatrick point, hats off to the brave officers, the gun fight was close, police ran into the
5:28 am
vehicle, individual got out and you see one officer being shot just feet from here to the tv, he goes down engaging. no more front line facing fear than what those brave new orleans police officers did, i can't say more about how brave they were and courage that stopped that terrorist from continuing to carry out his attack. >> sandra: they are being treated for injuries right now, she gave a hopeful update they will overcome the injuries. fbi investigating las vegas cyber truck attack. a 24-hour verty veteran of the metro pd will be here next. a bientot let's work on that french, shall we? >> lawrence: fox news alert, las vegas cybertruck explosion is being probed as authorities hunt for efs and potential link to the new orleans attack. >> both vehicles were rented from toro and soso was ours. we are investigating and not ruling anything out. >> lawrence: lieutenant randy sutton joins us now. thank you for joining the program. what are investigators looking for when they try to see if there are any ties between the suspect in vegas and new orleans? >> they are going to be looking for connectivity, was there any cross-communication you between
5:35 am
the two. they are looking into the devices that will be discovered during the search procedures at their residences and vehicles, both killer in new orleans and the dead suspect in the car bombing in vegas. they'll be looking to see if they can connect the two in and way. there is some reporting they may have served in the same military unit, that would be a major key if that is accurate. remember this, too, that t terrorist cells, whether they know each other or not have some type of connection. it may be out of the country if they are run by handler not within the united states. >> lawrence: lieutenant, law enforcement across the country if it is true they are
5:36 am
connected, would they be worried now about more acts, from people that are part of the same cell? we don't know who is talking to who, i'm sure intel is looking at chatter to determine that, right? >> you better believe that. i want to thank you guys at fox for recognizing warrior spirit of new orleans police officers who engaged and killed that suspect, it is not often talked about. you saw the demonstration of the superintendent police regarding other people of interest. i was shocked by what i just heard there, it is consistent.
5:37 am
-- it would make this case very different and show that there was a conspiracy of terrorist cell being activated in that area. the intel community is working full time using all of their resources, human intelligence, electronic intelligence, informants to try to determine if there are more active threats at this time and there well could be. >> lawrence: that is why information is so critical. i always want to give credit to law enforcement when it is due. when people in top brass use legal jargon we know in law enforcement community and it is conflicting then public doesn't know what to watch out for and that is critical after a terr terr terrorist event. thank you for joining.

louisiana congressional delegation an hour from now. lawmakers seek answers on the deadly new year's day terror attack in new orleans. >> griff: we are finding out more about the suspect. the driver of the truck is 42-year-old shamsud din jabbar. jabbar was a u.s.-born citizen who lived in texas, army veteran who served from 2007 to 2020. prior to that, he attempted to join navy and was discharged before serving. >> sandra: he carried out the attack with rented vehicle with terrorist flag attached to the back of it. authorities saying new orleans terror suspect reportedly ple pledged aliegeance to isis just hours before carrying out the attack.
5:44 am
>> griff: michael waltz joins us now. what have you learned about this horrific tragedy, this terrorist attack and what do you think needs to be done as you prepare to come in to protect the nation from further attacks? >> well, thank you, griff. here is the bottom line. the terrorists around the world, i isis, al qaeda and offshoots did not get the memo the war on terror is over. they still hate us, they are plotting and planning to attack us. we have to be on maximum guard. we have kept president trump informed throughout the last 24 to 48 hours. two things, we have to take a hard look at our defenses, close our border, where we've had over 300 people on the terrorist
5:45 am
watch list traverse our border in the last year, number one. number two, in the last year, we had eight isis operatives surveilling sites in three different cities, number from that cell are still unaccounted for based out of tajikistan. taking a hard look at strategy overseas, our posture and basing for our special operators and intelligence operatives to keep a lid on isis, al qaeda and others, afghanistan, iraq, syria and other places they may be plotting to hit us. >> lawrence: congressman, if you can put your door kicker hat back on as green beret, when i talk to people in the community and law enforcement, they tell me the same thing, we're focused on the wrong thing.
5:46 am
we're not focusing on threats to this country right now. are you hearing that, as well? they look at yesterday as a mission failure. we had americans that died and something needs to change immediately. it is great we got former president coming back in, something could happen between that time. >> you are absolutely right. i want to echo others in praising law enforcement that literally ran to the sound of gunfire, ran into a hail of bullets and stayed engaged and took this son of a -- took him out, right? you are right, it was a failure, we need to look at whether we had intel indicators, how he was radicalized online. i'm interested and will be looking to national counterer itrism center, was he externally planned, plotted and directed
5:47 am
from isis overseas or was this homegrown? if homegrown, was there some type of mom mosque or radicalization element that is radicalizing him and others internally? again, guys, you can't emphasize enough, close the border, secure our sovereign ty and that is unacceptable, the entire world knows that we have an open border, they intend to hit us and they are pushing people into our interior to do just that. if we look internally, we can't defend ourselves abroad. that strategy, they have a cal fa califate, why isis is brewing, we have to do complete day one
5:48 am
relook. >> sandra: hour by hour we anticipate more information as incoming national security adviser, what are you looking for as the feds start to give more information? >> well, that one, that number one that external plotting versus internal radicalization, how that happened. number two, i find it amazing co coincidence, that you had two attacks renting from same site, both veterans that you could have more radicalized and broader cell. you also had an afghan stopped from making election-day attacks. this is why getting president trump's cabinet in is so important, we need kristi noem at dhs, and pete hegseth at dod, this is across the government
5:49 am
l look. marco rubio at state and of course john ratcliffe at cia and tulsi gabbard at dni, this is a moment in transition of vulnerability and president trump is going to project because he is a leader of strength, narrative we project on day one will be the just important and that is having our people in place. >> griff: during this transition period, 19 days to go, are you currently in contact and getting briefings from your counterpart sullivan? >> i have been in contact with jake sullivan, current national security adviser through the last 24 hours and they are trying to piece together information. we're not waiting on what we're getting from this white house, everybody has feelers out so we keep president trump informed as possible and i can tell you
5:50 am
what, he is ready to go day one, 19 days to go. >> lawrence: quickly, we have to go congressman, not asking you to reveal classified information, was there chatter about this guy? >> not that i've been briefed, not that we know at this point. we have to look, national counter terrorism center, that is reason they exist and intel community is fully engaged to see what was going on from abroad. >> sandra: appreciate your time. thank you. >> griff: a lot there and daunting task as this administration comes in. turning to headlines, biden administration considering new rules to ban chinese drones in the, commerce department citing national security concerns, they say the drones could give china and russia chance to manipulate

>> sandra: fox news alert. the sugar bowl is held in new orleans. it is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. central time. 4:00 eastern today. it was postponed following the deadly terror attack. the city is doubling down on security, of course, before it hosts the super bowl in just a few months. nfl sideline reporter is a new orleans native, jen, and joins us now. what can you tell us about preparations for this game tonight and how the teams are managing their way through this absolute tragedy and crisis? >> it is a tragedy and good morning. thank you for having me. a very somber mood in new orleans, understandably right now. the game is set to go even though some state leaders such as the louisiana attorney general suggested postponing it until tomorrow. local, state and federal officials all feeling safe proceeding right now. they locked the superdome down

almost immediately yesterday after news of the tragedy broke and swept it multiple times with teams of dogs looking for explosive devices inside the superdome. nothing was found. double downing on security. they have increased the number of mounted police, swat patrol, officers on foot and expanded the security perimeter and they allowed certain personnel back inside the dome in the afternoon. even though we've seen some fans say it is not worth it, i'm not in a football mood and not going to the game, we have leaders like louisiana's governor saying i will be there in person. it's important to take a stand and be there. in terms of pulling back the curtain on the teams they are sheltering in place in hotels down the street from the dome and crime scene. thankfully everybody in both teams traveling parties are
