an s.o.p. we have and doing it for how many years, many, many years. the only thing they'll do is tweak and adjust according to current events as such. now with the truck. but i can tell you from my experience we already have those areas covered. if anything, they will just be more vigilant and observant for our perimeters because basically it's your perimeter that >> molly: we greatly appreciate it. i know a lot of people will be there for the inauguration, beautiful day for america. coming up julie banderas is in for harris, "the faulkner focus" is coming up next. thank you for joining us. >> julie: we begin with a fox news alert. fox just confirming the f.b.i.
8:01 am
no longer believes no other suspects involved in the new orleans attack out there. president biden will also meet with members of his homeland security team next hour to get an update on this investigation. meantime this was one of two shocking car incidents to rattle the country on new year's day just at the start of the year. authorities are also looking into a violent scene in las vegas. this is "the faulkner focus." hello, everyone. julie banderas in for harris today. investigators are trying to figure out what led a u.s. army veteran to plow his truck into a crowded street in new orleans leaving 15 dead and more than 35 injured. witnesses expressing their horror and disbelief. >> you just heard this squeal and like the rev of an engine and then this huge loud impact and then the people screaming. and debris, just metal, the
8:02 am
sound of crunching metal and bodies. my phone blew up with a bunch of family friends in indiana asking if we were okay. looked out the door and we saw silence. >> unbelievable, terrible first day of the year. >> just the traumatic parts of it of human nature with anyone is capable of. the bodies mangled, strewn. several unrecognizable. >> julie: a former princeton college football player, 18-year-old aspiring nurse and single mother to a 4-year-old boy were some of the victims. a tesla cyber truck explode et outside of trump international hotel in las vegas adding to already heightened fears. the blast killing the driver and
8:03 am
leaving seven other injured. authorities are looking into if that was an act of terrorism as well. they say it is an isolated incident but say the two incidents could be connected, the one in new orleans and the one in las vegas. police in las vegas saying there is a link between the incidents. that's not out of the question yet. the investigation continues. >> do i think it's a coincidence? i don't know. we're absolutely investigating any connection to new orleans and other attacks occurring around the world. we aren't ruling anything out yet. >> julie: fox news team coverage. jeff paul in las vegas. first to garrett tenney who joins us live in new orleans with the latest details there. hi, garrett. >> good morning to you. authorities are looking to see if these two incidents are in any way related. simply because of the shared similarities, both men served in the military. veterans. both men used the rental car
8:04 am
appear turo to recent electric trucks to carry out these attacks and explosions we saw. but we did just learn a short time ago, david spunt at the justice department said the f.b.i. no longer believes the suspect in new orleans acted with the help of others. that he did this on his own. that is significant because that has been a top priority for investigators who have been trying to figure out if there was any kind of ongoing threat to public safety. hopefully we'll hear more why they now believe the suspect, 43-year-old jabbar acted alone. this last night and early this morning the f.b.i. and state attorney general said they had a high level of confidence others were involved. some had used an airbnb a mile from the scene to make explosive devices. while we wait for the details of the upcoming press conference we are learning more about the suspect, a u.s. citizen born if
8:05 am
texas served 13 years in the u.s. army and army reserves and worked for a time at the accounting firm at deloitte. nothing of note in his background and no history of violence. hours before the attack he posted videos on social media about his support for isis and how he wanted to kill people. a man who is march eft to jabbar's ex-wife told "the new york times" he had been acting erratically in recent months. so much so the couple stopped him from spending time with his two daughters. this morning police are expected to reopen parts of the french quarter. an aerial shot of bourbon street cleared out. we have exclusive access to the skies over the scene. one other update we got this past hour, the number of people being treated for injuries from yesterday's attack is now at 37. that's in addition to the 15 people who lost their lives. julie. >> julie: thank you so much,
8:06 am
garrett. for more information on the tesla cyber truck explosion we go to nashville correspondent jeff paul live from las vegas with the latest there. hi, jeff. >> i want to get to new information. associated press has confirmed a name of a suspect involved in that cyber truck explosion. that name would be matthew allen livisburger. it had a u.s. army background and approved for leave at the time of his death. but they will not comment any further as this is an ongoing investigation. beyond that the question around everyone's mind hearing about what happened here at the trump hotel in las vegas, was it somehow related to what happened in new orleans? investigators say they believe this was an isolated incident but they are still looking into any possible ties to new orleans or to terrorism in general.
8:07 am
>> we're trying to see if we can say it is a terrorist attack. thats what we're trying to do. a ton of resources dedicated to this and doing it with our partners. >> this all unfolded yesterday morning. investigators say it involved a 2024 tesla cyber truck that was rented through turo, the same app used by the suspect in the new orleans attack. the driver rented the truck in colorado where he drove to las vegas. eventually pulling up to the valet area at the trump hotel. seconds later spoke inside the truck and a flash and explosion. the driver was inside. gasoline canister and large fire work mortars inside. the driver died but seven bystanders were hurt. the explosion could have been far more devastating. >> the fact that this was a cyber truck really limited the damage that occurred inside of
8:08 am
the valet because it had most of the blast go up through the truck and out. in fact, if you look on that video you will see that the front glass doors at the trump hotel were not even broken by that blast. >> we know the cyber truck involved was rented in colorado. a short time ago the f.b.i. confirmed its team along with a team from the aft and local police are searching a home in colorado springs saying it is related to the truck explosion in las vegas. officials here on the ground have yet to confirm the name of that suspect but again they do believe he acted alone, julie. >> julie: jeff paul. thank you so much. interesting new information. nichole parker joins me now, former f.b.i. special agent. a lot has happened since we spoke yesterday. the most recent and startling discover the information just released from the f.b.i. that in
8:09 am
fact the suspect in new orleans did act alone. if you remember yesterday there was surveillance video of three men and a woman they suspected could have placed those ied explosive devises throughout the french quarter. turns out they were not involved whatsoever. there is certainly got to be a connection you would think between what happened in colorado, there is a search going on in colorado springs and in las vegas, both of them rented these vehicles through the app turo, a way for people to personally rent their vehicles to people like an airbnb for cars. if there isn't a wider spread terror network behind all of this you have two former army vets working simultaneously. what is your instinct here? >> there is a very complex situation on the f.b.i.'s hand right now. i know that it better be all hands on deck focused on this. for too long the f.b.i. has lost focus on real threats facing
8:10 am
american. they've been so obsessed with going after president trump and we're seeing the impact of that. there is serious terrorist activity going on within our nation. when we mention what happened in new orleans verse yours what happened in las vegas, i understand that there was no clear link at this time. again as an agent, just my gut instinct says too many coincidences here. like you said two army veterans. both rented through the turo app and used electrical vehicles and trucks on the same day they wreaked havoc. i want to see if there are any links. i think what many americans are confused by is the f.b.i. is out there yesterday morning on air with you shortly after the press conference and she said there is no terrorism here. such definitive statement. that's pretty bold when actually it was 100% terrorism. so on the flip side they said she said they acted -- they did
8:11 am
not act solely. they were not solely responsible for this activity. then today they are saying well, we think that they really were acting independently. i think the american people are very confused and it takes time. there is a large amount of information and takes time to than could duct investigation. it's time for the f.b.i. to be clear and transparent and to be direct and honest with the american people. their trust has been betrayed by the f.b.i. and it is time for them to regain the trust and confidence. right now we need clear messaging. >> julie: yesterday was a scary day on so many levels. the fact that they same out so quickly to deem it terrorism was something that happened quickly and the fact they were able to say they don't believe the suspect had acted alone and there was a larger network was alarming. to come back less than 24 hours later and completely reverse is extremely confusing and sort of sheds light on what is the
8:12 am
f.b.i. doing behind the scenes. usually they don't release information until they know darn well that it is accurate in order not to hamper. christopher wray has testified on the uptick on terrorism threats. >> the first time i've snippety a long, long time the threats from home grown jihadist expired extremist. foreign terrorist organizations and state-sponsored terrorist organizations all being elevated at one time. i walked through how we were already in a heightened threat environment. since then, we've seen the threat from foreign terrorists rise to a whole other level. >> julie: yesterday you said you hoped to god the f.b.i. did not have their eyes on this guy or that this wasn't on their radar because it seems that it did seem to come out of nowhere. this was planned well in
8:13 am
advance. there had to have been red flags somewhere. >> yeah, this individual did not just wake up yesterday and go and execute this attack. it was very well orchestrated. the f.b.i. when it comes to counter terrorism activity you can't arrest people because you suspect something. your hands are almost tied until there is a criminal act. but at the same time, julie, i think it is so important to note how aggressive the f.b.i. has been going after with those who walked inside the capitol and charging misdemeanor. i hope they use that same level of tenacity to go after terrorist groups. christopher wray, you are correct, the threat level is all-time high. it is. we have had an open border for four years. we're sitting ducks. there are many terrorists in our
8:14 am
country and now have thank goodness president trump is coming in january 20th and our country will be made great again. >> julie: we'll talk about the confirmation hearings especially kash patel leading the f.b.i. at a very significant time now. lawmakers on capitol hill are demanding answers on both of these deadly attacks in new orleans and in las vegas. >> americans should be concerned. they reelected donald trump to get in there and do this thing right because there are people that hate us. america once again will have a standing in the world where we're respected, that we weren't respected under joe biden.

8:18 am
>> julie: the f.b.i. is briefing members of congress on the deadly attack in new orleans. at least 15 people are dead and at least 37 more injured. lawmakers meantime are demanding answers. >> we want to know exactly what happened, why, and who else was involved in it. i think obviously under this administrations at times information has been language. >> for the last four years the biden administration has been completely derelict in its duty. we see that this dereliction of
8:19 am
duty has consequences. >> we can't let the terrorists win. we have to track them down, bring them to justice and not let them stop us from doing what we normally do. >> julie: senior national correspondent aishah hasnie is live on capitol hill with the latest. >> we're just getting new information from this f.b.i. phone call that was ongoing with house and senate members of the homeland security committees as well as the louisiana delegation and i can tell you that something that they've learned according to sources on this call, they just told fox news. something they just learned apparently the f.b.i. is claiming that they had no intelligence on jabbar before this attack. they had zero intelligence on him. it appears to be so that they were not tracking him. also the f.b.i. told these members that he was quote, end quote, inspired by isis but they
8:20 am
do not have evidence to lead them to believe that he was directed by isis. they are still looking into that but so far they told members today that he was inspired by this terrorist organization, not necessarily exactly directed by this terrorist organization. again, these two big headlines coming out of this phone call as members are trying to wrap their heads around how this could have happened. they were briefed by the assistant director of the f.b.i.'s counter terrorism division david scott. they have a lot of questions, other questions specifically about what went wrong in new orleans with security preparations, those balards we've been talking about the last 24 hours weren't functioning at the time and allowed the suspect to drive onto bourbon street. more widely speaking is there a risk for more attacks? are there other people involved? i believe we'll find out in a few moments they believe that
8:21 am
perhaps there were not other people involved or at least so far that's what they think. this is what senator john kennedy told me last night when i tried to ask him that very question what does he think is going on here? listen here. >> i can't answer that. i can't answer that. but i shouldn't. i'm going to say it again. we're giving the f.b.i. and homeland security a reasonable amount of time to do their job and by god they will do their job and catch these people. and we are going to know a whole lot more in the next 48 hours. >> we'll find out more on the upcoming f.b.i. briefing. i can tell you two things coming out of this phone call with members is that the f.b.i. is claiming they had no intelligence on jabbar before the attack and that they believe that jabbar was inspired by isis, not necessarily actively directed by the terrorist organization. more to come as soon as i find
8:22 am
out. >> julie: aishah hasnie, thank you so much. in "focus" now tammy bruce, fox news contributor joins me now. you were on the air on "outnumbered" when the story was unfolding. the most alarm part of all of it there would be information of other people, other suspects that were involved. that it wasn't an isolated incident. that it was in fact a plan greater theory behind the planning in all of this. it is surprising to hear the f.b.i. saying this man acted alone. >> it is. but also in the beginning they also said definitively as you have been discussing that there is no -- this was not terrorism. but what we know now that everyone was aware of an isis flag on that truck and yet the first statement from the f.b.i. was that this is not terrorism when the mayor was open and transparent saying it was. i have oh he seen the video that they used to say there were more people involved. and it is individuals looking in a case that was sitting in the
8:23 am
street opening it, it happened to have some i think blasting caps in it and not knowing what it was, shut it down and walked away. the impression people got is that there was video evidence of the placement of the bombs. that was apparently not accurate. this is why the american people are concerned, including -- i know you have this press conference coming up. we still don't have information, julie, about the butler assassination attempt on donald trump. you notice that just kind of faded away when it comes to motive, the nature of it, if there was any guidance. the las vegas mass shooting. the biggest mass shooting in american history, decided we'll never know. the american people deserve information and clarity and transparency and i think we'll get it with kash pat el and the trump administration. >> julie: the surveillance video that said there were three men and a woman seen placing i.e.d.s throughout the french quarter was confusing.
8:24 am
we'll go to the f.b.i. and they'll be providing an update to the investigation. let's listen. >> in honor of those lives that were lost in this horrific act of violence. i also think that it is important to remember that what happened yesterday was akin to those who are old enough to remember jigsaw puzzles and that you would take 1,000 piece jigsaw puzzle and empty the box and you have to start sifting through those pieces and you want to start, if you are real good, you start at the corners, right? try to put your corners together and from yesterday to today, over a thousand law enforcement agents and officers, men and
8:25 am
women, have been pouring over countless amounts of data, videos, surveillances, interviews, tracking down every possible lead that came to us, whether it was the new orleans police department, the louisiana state b.i., or our other federal agencies. also yesterday we declared -- i issued an emergency declaration. that declaration was meant to streamline resources and communications between state, local, and federal partners. and we're seeing the results of it. also would like to remind everyone that what is going on in the city and state is two fold. we have an active criminal
8:26 am
investigation going on, while we're also continuing to secure the city in preparation for a 3:00 kickoff time for the sugar bowl. with that, i would also remind those who are in the city that as far as state resources are concerned, we have the louisiana state police, the louisiana national guard, which is part of that emergency declaration that allowed us to put an entire mp company on the ground. those become force multipliers is what we call that in law enforcement and the military. that helps to add to the resources that we have. wildlife and fisheries, department of corrections, dsf, dhs, veterans affairs, allstate agencies. any state agencies with post certified officers are here in
8:27 am
the city to help secure this city. and so with that i would like to turn it over to christopher, the deputy assistant director of the f.b.i.'s counter terrorism division. chris. >> thank you, governor landry. good morning. i am f.b.i. deputy assistant director from the counter terrorism division at headquarters, also joined by assistant special agent in charge from our new orleans office who you heard from yesterday. i'm here to discuss not only the latest investigative information we have here in new orleans, but also let you know about other investigative activities outside of the state. our first and most importantly want to send our deepest condolences to the victims of this horrific attack and their
8:28 am
loved ones. 14 innocent victims were killed in this senseless attack and at least 35 are injured. we cannot ease the grief people in this community and across the nation are feeling at this time. but rest assured we stand with you and in support of you. all the resources -- i will go into that a little bit later. all the resources of the f.b.i. are being focused on tracking down every piece of evidence, every lead, every interview, every potential -- every potential lead we've got. while i won't be able to answer all your questions today, my goal is to be as forthcoming as possible with you on what we have uncovered so far. first and foremost let me be very clear about this point. this was an act of terrorism. it was premeditated and an evil act. this was obviously a critical
8:29 am
information and with that lots of information and tips come pouring in there law enforcement, first responders and the public. we have been aggressively running down the tips and information. as you all know, that takes time and we'll continue to do so until every lead has been followed through on. this investigation is only a little more than 24 hours old, so i ask you to keep in mind that as i go through some of the specifics later. but at this point currently, this is another fact i want to be clear on. we do not assess at this point that anyone else involved in this attack is involved in this attack except for shamsud-din jabbar, the subject you have already been briefed on. a little bit about what the f.b.i. is doing. we're surging people and assets to the area from across the region and across the nation. special agents in multiple field
8:30 am
offices across the country have been deployed and are assisting with potential aspect of this investigation and following up on every lead. additional teams of special agents, professional staff and victims specialists continue to provide to provide more assistance to the victims and their families. we have also forward deployed incident response group assets including members of our hostage rescue team, special agent bomb technicians and crisis management coordinators. in addition we have deployed more evidence response technicians to continue to process the various scenes that we have. so far, we have received just over 400 tips from the public and that information is being followed up on both here in new orleans and across the country. some of the tips are here in new orleans and there are other tips
8:31 am
in other states across the country that we're following up on. the f.b.i. team and our law enforcement partners here are also reviewing hundreds of hours of surveillance and other video from both the french quarter and other locations. as for a timeline. at this point, investigators believe jabbar picked up the rented f-150 in houston, texas on december 30th. he then drove from houston to new orleans on the evening of the 31st and he posted several videos to an online platform proclaim his support for isis. there were five videos posted on his facebook account that are time stamped beginning at 1:29 a.m. and the last at 3:02:00 a.m. in the first video jabbar explains he was first
8:32 am
thinking about his family. additionally, he stated he had joined isis before this summer. he also provided a will and testament. f.b.i. and a.t.f. -- we have a couple different scenes at the location. as you -- we have released the scene at bourbon street. that scene has been released. we also have a scene off mandeville address where we're currently searching that scene right now. f.b.i. and a.t.f. agents have secured that house and that location is being searched for potential evidence. on new year's morning, jabbar opened fire after ramming through a blocked off area of
8:33 am
bourbon street, used his truck as a weapon to run over victims. we're on the grounds in new orleans assisting survivor and loved ones of the deceased. we do not believe the public is in any danger around any of these locations. three phones linked to jabbar have been recovered and digital media exploitation is a priority to see what's on the devices and determine if there are any other potential leads. additionally we have recovered two laptops and are currently reviewing them for any potential leads. those laptops were recovered at the mandeville address. evidence technicians will also be going over the f-150 truck jabbar was driving. as you know, we recovered an isis flag from the back of the vehicle. jabbar declared his support for the terrorist group on social media, as i stated before, as he
8:34 am
made his way to new orleans. f.b.i. bomb technicians also recovered two i.e.d.s in coolers, one from the cross section of bourbon and or lien as street and an intersection two blocks away. multiple reports of other devices, those reports turned out to be misinformation or not actual functioning devices. those are the only two devices that we've been able to recover that were functional. both devices were rendered safe on scene. did we obtain surveillance footage showing jabbar placing the devices where they were found. two other as i said before, two other items of interest were determined not to be i.e.d.s. a little bit about jabbar. he was born in the united states and is a u.s. military veteran. we are looking in everything in
8:35 am
his life. while we have interviewed many people who know jabbar, we still need to talk to others. whether you know jabbar personally, worked with him, served in the military, or saw him in new orleans or texas, we need to talk to you. you may not think you have relevant information but what you know could tie in to one of our investigative leads. specifically we want to talk to anyone who was in the french quarter on new year's eve or early on new year's day. that includes people spotted near one of the two i.e.d.s on bourbon street. the i.e.d. was inside cooler and many people stopped and looked at the cooler and then continued on their way. let's be clear again, we do not believe at this point these people are involved in this incident in any way. we want to speak to them as witnesses and want to know what
8:36 am
they saw and when. i went down to the crime scene last night. it is very hard to put into words what it looked like and how difficult it was to see. anyone with information can call us at 1-800-call fbi or send digital tips to fbi.gov/bourbon street attack. evidence response teams finished their work and turned over to the city of new orleans. there is also an f.b.i. investigation in las vegas. we are following up on all potential leads and not ruling anything out. however, at this point, there is no definitive link between the attack here in new orleans and the one in las vegas. again, i will preface, what i
8:37 am
started with in the beginning. this is very early in an investigation like this. again, our thoughts and prayers are with the victims of this tragedy and everyone impacted across the country. they remain at the heart of our investigation. i also, although i've only been on the ground a short time, i also want to express a sincere appreciation for our partners here, which include the u.s. attorney's office, hsi, atf, new orleans pd, louisiana state police, governor's office and countless others. at this point i will turn it over to the special agent in charge of atf here, josh jackson. >> good afternoon. as stated i'm josh jackson, special agent in charge for the a trick f new orleans field division. our primary mission is
8:38 am
preventing, reducing and solving violent crime throughout the united states and abroad. solving part is the focus of this investigation. atf resources have been brought to bear to the city and to focus what our federal, state and local partners have been a national response team. we spoke about the scene still being processed now. it's a team of certified fire investigators, explosive specialists, fire engineers, electrical engineers. these folks will give us leads to help investigative team identify what happened at the location in mandeville and identify how that fire started and move the investigation forward from there. additional resources at atf has brought to bear into the city as atf special response team. a team capable of handling any sort of enforcement operation, this team is deployed on set and ready for the sugar bowl today. the team is made available to
8:39 am
the louisiana state police and also new orleans police department to assist with any efforts that they may have during this period. additional resources as the governor alluded to, executive powers and had an emergency declared, atf and could bring explosive detective canines to safely sweep the city and super bowl in preparation for the game today. these resources will still be in the city as we lead up to the super bowl and through mardi gras. these resources will be here. the last resources atf has brought to bear is our victim witness coordinators. they provide assistance to victims and family members that have suffered greatly during this tragedy. the entire city hurts but the victims and family members are
8:40 am
in need of resources and care long after this investigation wraps up. this time next year it will be hard for the families and friends who suffered during this event. so our victim witness coordinators are working with the f.b.i., the city of new orleans coordinators to provide resources to these folks out here. and as we move forward atf wilk in safe and prepared as we move into the super bowl. with that i will turn it over to our mayor of this great city of new orleans, madam mayor. >> thank you so much. good morning once again. and i just want to just echo my thank yous to the unified command of our law enforcement partners and at every single level, federal, state and
8:41 am
governor. governor, thank you for your partnership. thank you. i also want to thank the residents and visitors of the city of new orleans for your patience, for your support, and most of all your prayers. our hearts and prayers continue to go out to the victims' families and the city of new orleans, we're resilient. as i stated on yesterday, my focus in terms of a priority has been on our victims. as you heard, yes, the f.b.i. was able to clear bourbon street. and what that meant also for me and this city was that we were able to remove our victims, identify them, and notify their families. they mattered, the families
8:42 am
matter, and matter to the city of new orleans. in addition to that, i want to just thank again our federal partners in washington listening to my plea personally for the additional resources to allow for the scene to be cleared. again, attending to our victims. i walked by each one and i did the sign of the cross in my own way because reverence again is important. so while we have been able to have bourbon street returned back to the city of new orleans and the due diligence has been done, that then allowed me to give the go ahead to begin the cleaning of bourbon street. that started happening in the morning about 2:00 a.m. it was completed before 8:00 a.m. when this morning. that has really set the tone, i
8:43 am
would say, and with the confidence that i have in the law enforcement partners, all of the resources that have been activated, how we have made sure that safety continues to be our top priority, how our assets have been deployed strategically again for the safety and for the protection of our visitors and residents in the city. and because of that, the confidence is there to reopen bourbon street to the public prior to game time today. the first order will be to allow for vendors to come in and service the businesses. that is important in order for us to stand up activation as you know, governor. so with that, i want to reassure the public that the city of new orleans is not only ready for
8:44 am
game day today, we're ready to continue to host large-scale events in our city because we are built to host at every single turn. i want to again thank all of those who responded to the f.b.i.'s call for information and tips. as you heard, that has been useful, continue to do that. the investigation is still active and absolutely under the f.b.i.'s leadership. we will continue to operate and cooperate as we always have. so i want to also thank all of our partners for the added resources for victim and crisis management. we know that's again important. working with our partner, the greater new orleans foundation, we have set up a fund for our victims' families for not only today but into the future as you heard. this is going to be a long
8:45 am
process for our people. so with that, the city of new orleans and with all of my confidence, we are ready and we could not get here again without the unified presence, support, and cooperation. we are stronger together and i want to say again, thank you so much. thank you, governor. so once again, the governor would like me to reiterate that bourbon street will be prepared for full activation before game time today. we know 3:00 p.m. so we're working towards 2:30 p.m. but prior to game time, the kickoff bourbon street will be restored. we're hard at work now. our teams are now and, of course, working with our business community to serve our public and serve our residents and our visitors alike. thank you.
8:46 am
>> in closing, i want to rest people assured right now in the city of new orleans there is an unprecedented amount of law enforcement resources being utilized to close out and to hunt down and to finalize this investigation. i want to thank the f.b.i. and all of our federal partners for the amount of resources they have poured into the city. this type of event can happen in any city. and that's the tragedy of it. i think it is important for people to understand that to protect our citizens in america from evil, you have to crush it. you can't go out there and play indicate it. you can't go out there and say i'll put this in place and that in place and hope evil doesn't show up on your doorstep because it will. you have to crush it. and that's what we are going to do here. we will put it all behind us.
8:47 am
we will continue to keep the victims, those that are in the hospital either fighting for their lives or trying to recover in our thoughts and in our prayers. but you know, this morning -- i don't want to sing aloud one news source. i happened to turn on "fox & friends" and there was a young man who was interviewed who was on bourbon street during this horrific act of terrorism. and they closed out by asking him what now? and i think he summed it up. he said look, we can't live in fear. fear will paralyze us. he said we come down to the city to enjoy ourselves and to entertain ourselves and to be with our friends and with our families because that's who we are.
8:48 am
louisiana invented hospitality. the people of this city care for each other. and believe you me, we care about each one of the lives that were lost in this city. we'll never forget them. but it would be a tragedy if we let their losses be snuffed out because of fear. this city will be back. we will be open to family and friends and loved ones who want some time to relax from the pressures of life. and so today we are going to have us a sugar bowl. we will enjoy ourselves. we will keep those again who have lost loved ones in mind and get onto the business of this city and this great country. with that i'll take any questions. >> this is for the assistant director. the message has really changed
8:49 am
since yesterday. yesterday the f.b.i. said people should be vigilant. he did not act alone. he likely had help. now you are coming out the next day and saying he was a lone wolf, everything is safe. the game is on, everybody have a good time. how can you be so sure just 12 hours later? >> we will bring him up. i want to remind everyone. i was a deputy sheriff. i worked on the jail, street, interstate. i served warrants. in today's world i get it. information, we get information like that. everybody lives in a 15 second tiktok video. we think that life operates like it does on our phones. it just doesn't. information changes. in fact, that's why we ask the media for patience. we get information, like i said, putting -- no one dumps 1,000-piece jigsaw puzzle and
8:50 am
puts it together in five seconds, okay? and what i would tell you is that i would rather -- i appreciate the fact that what we did was we're under promising and over delivering today. i think that's important. i want to remind you. over the last decade law enforcement has taken it on the chin unfairly. and there are great men and women serving in the f.b.i., atf and louisiana state police and new orleans pd, sheriffs are unbelievable in this. and i tell you, they want to protect you all. and we have to trust them. and sometimes the information we put out we end up finding out that it may be incorrect. guess what? what we're doing is something that is important, called transparency. something may change again. here is what i do know.
8:51 am
right now this is one of the safest places on earth. doesn't mean nothing can happen. >> thank you, governor. i think the governor put it eloquently as could be said. in a lot of these instances i had the opportunity to -- this is almost carbon copy to boston bomb as far as the inaccurate reporting that comes up. we want to be transparent with the public. years of the f.b.i. not being transparent, we're being as transparent as we can. unfortunately as we are being transparent, unfortunately for that there is some information that we have to go back and recorrect. in this particular incident you heard the resources that we brought, that the other state and locals have brought. we have had 24 hours now to go through media, go through phones, to interview people, to analyze those videos, analyze other databases and after all of that there has been hundreds and hundreds of leads just in 24
8:52 am
hours. we're confident that at this point that there is no accomplices. i will give you an idea how that information sometimes -- a lot of the early reports came out that there were people that were setting the coolers down. it turns out those were just patrons on the street that were looking inside the coolers, right? we didn't know that at first and we tracked it down and put it to rest. that's just as an example. other pieces of information after we got on the ground a little bit here we were able to put together a more accurate picture of the subject. >> 14 and the shooter himself. 15 total, one includes the shooter. >> have you discovered any -- you [inaudible question]
8:53 am
>> those roughly a couple hours -- i don't have the exact times. a couple hours prior to the attack. probably after midnight. i want to say one or two in the morning. >> he left the area and came back? >> that's our assumption. we still have a lot to work for. more surveillance video. that's the assumption. >> were there have been canines out an new year's eve, bomb sweeps done? >> let me just say this. either joe or bob or correct me. look, a bomb dog doesn't operate like a drone. they -- bourbon street has a lot of scents, a lot of smells. i don't think you can run a bomb dog run bourbon street with thousands of people there and sniff out a bomb. what we've been doing and what they have been doing is
8:54 am
certainly a complete sweep of the quarter because of the limited amount of traffic that has been out there. let me just say this. i think this may help. it would be my hope that as some additional time goes through, maybe closer to maybe the beginning of next week, we will -- if we have got to what extent buttoned up as we could, i would work with f.b.i. and the city and maybe we can come up with a timeline to be able to get you those information kind of walk everyone through from day one through i think it is -- it is extremely premature and you are putting us on speculative grounds to ask some of those questions because again, it has only been 24 hours. can you imagine how far we've come in 24 hours? >> [inaudible question] . >> one at a time. >> what is being done to make
8:55 am
bourbon street safer tonight than new year's eve. why weren't the balards used new year's eve? >> this is what i'll say. every time some bad guy does something like this, there is an after-action review. because again, nothing is 100%. we had reinforced the area. we had deployed some additional types of assets. i personally -- the city or other -- i don't like to give specifics because i don't like to tell the enemy what we've got. we are in better shape than we were before. >> two more questions. >> you've been to the mandeville
8:56 am
scene and neighbors said they smelled smoke early in the morning. was there burning happening there? >> i do want to address the suicide vest question and kill that right away. no evidence that the subject was wearing a suicide vest at all. i will turn the mandeville stuff over to atf. >> as to the fire at the mandeville scene, the working theory now is the fire started after jabbar was already deceased. a lot of different ways it can happen. different timed devices, you could have a long cord that extended that time. you could also have pressure cookers put on top of the stove filled with gasoline and went off. a lot of different ways to do it. why the atf response team is here to get that investigative lead back to our team. so more to come on that. still processing that scene. we're out there right now. >> radicalized -- [inaudible
8:57 am
question] any international travel involved? what led him down this path? >> a lot of questions we're still asking ourselves. we know that he specifically picked out bourbon street. not sure why. one can assume it was lots of people, new year's eve, you know, with a target for an attack. that is the stuff in the coming days as far as that path to radicalization that we will be digging into and making a priority of. so what i can tell you right now is that he was 100% inspired by isis and so we're digging through more of the social media, more interviews, working with some other partners to ascertain just how -- ascertain a little more about that connection. >> we will do one more. >> i've had my hand up for a while. >> it's actually -- [inaudible
8:58 am
question] . >> i prefer those. >> in order to reassure people, would you be able to explain the analysis and evidence that has led to this most recent understanding that he was a lone actor and at this point there is no further danger to the public? >> i think a lot of that multiple interviews, the hundreds of interviews that we've conducted so far. the social media. the social media review that we've done of his accounts. the -- by my count the five devices we have. the three cell phones and two laptops been able to initially go through that and there is just nothing to indicate through call records, through anything on those devices, through interviews or anything in our systems that he was aided in this attack by anybody. i have to carve yet like the governor said.
8:59 am
it's 24 hours into it. that could change but right now we've got a much better picture and much more confidence on what we were dealing with than we were 24 hours ago. >> thank you all so much. again -- again we are going to try to get you all as much information as possible so any additional information will be put out through press releases. thank you so very much. [inaudible] questions >> julie: you heard from the louisiana governor landry and f.b.i. officials and local mayor there. the nutshell that came out of this. the deputy assistant director of the counter terrorism division of the f.b.i. said this. laptops were recovered at the airbnb at the mandeville street not in the french quarter rented by the suspect outside of the french quarter so he could build a couple of these i.e.d. explosive devices. we should also say that two active explosive devices were
9:00 am
found on bourbon street and bring in ted williams. defense attorney and fox news contributor to weigh in here. the f.b.i. confirm for the first time that surveillance video was found of jabbar planting those devices. it was misinformation about the three men and woman taking a look at some box that had some pipe bombs in it. that was not true. now we know there was video of the suspect planting the devices and he was a lone wolf. >> yeah, and you just said the latter that this man, jabbar, was a lone wolf. they haven't been able to tie anyone else with him. that was one of the most important things that came out of this press conference, julie. >> julie: that's all the time we have. "outnumbered." we'll pick up the coverage at noon. "outnumbered" starts right now. thanks for watching fox. continuing coverage right now.
