>> welcome to a special edition of jesse watters prime time. i'm kahla in for jesse. we start with the fox news alert. this is the terrorist attack we've been talking about in the last 48 hours and new developments of the attack that left 14 dead, of course, speaking on the attack on new year's in new orleans. there's the separate cyber truck explosion in las vegas. first we go to new orleans where the fbi is now officially calling it a terrorist attack. and we're learning more about the suspect. 42-year-old shamsud-din jabbar who says he was inspired by isis expressed a chilling desire to kill. now, before mowing down innocent new year's eve revelers, investigators say he posted a series of alarming videos on social media. >> did you know who he was? have you seen him at all? >> i seen him. obviously he was my neighbour. >> what was he like?

>> like, calm, collect, don't talk much. very private person. don't interrupt us. we don't interrupt him. >> was he acting strange at all or like any other encounter? >> very normal. >> how long was he living here for? >> he was living here for year and a half almost. >> how long had the white truck been here? >> only one night. >> five videos posted on jabbar's facebook account time stamped beginning at 1:29 a.m. and the last at 3:02 a.m. the first video jabbar explains he originally planned to harm his family and friends but was concerned the news headlines would not focus on the quote war between the believers and the disbelievers end quote. additionally, he stated he had joined isis before this summer. >> some neighbours said he seemed totally normal and yet posted these chilling facebook

videos before committing terrorism. fbi also just released new photos showing jabbar just an hour before the rampage dropping off two containers with with wih explosive devices on bourbon street and fbi received laptops from where the house caught on fire. and jabbar was seen on camera unloading boxes before the attack. police are looking to any other properties that cablinged to him like his trailer in houston. and new images on fox news digital appear to show abandoned trailer with rusted work out equipment, you see it there. what drove jabbar to go from a quote normal neighbour to driving a pickup truck through a crowd on new year's? his brother says he was radicalized and telling the "new york times" that jabbar was brought up christian but converted to islam at a young age adding quote this is

radicalization, not religion. now at one point the fbi feared a possible terror cell in the city of new orleans. police are ruling that out and say jabbar acted alone. >> let me be very clear about this point this was an act of terrorism. it was premeditated and an evil act. but at this point, currently, and this is another position -- another fact i want to be clear on, we do not assess at this point that anyone else involved in this attack is involved in this attack except for shamsud-din jabbar. the suspect you have already been briefed on. >> so far, police have also found no definite links between the new orleans attack and the cyber truck explosion outside of the trump hotel in las vegas. aside from the military service and renting the trucks through the app turo, two pretty big coincidences there. investigators ided the driver of the tesla cyber truck of

37-year-old matthew army veteran with deployments from afghanistan. and they were able to identify him from multiple ids on the track. that wasn't all they found. >> first and foremost is military investigation. we also found a passport. we found a desert eagle 50 calibre semiautomatic pistol and if you'll notice on a lot of the guns that we will talk about here, almost just burnt beyond recognition as well. there's an slr model b 30 semiautomatic firearm. number of fireworks that were still in the vehicle that had to be removed. notably we found an iphone and a smart watch and then several credit cards were also in the name of our subject. >> we also learned he had a self inflicted gun shot wound to the head. >> now, further complicating

this identification of this individual, we also discovered through the corner's office that the individual had sustained a gun shot wound to the head prior to the detonation of the vehicle. one of the hand guns was found at his feet inside of the vehicle. >> fbi earlier today was conducted a search at a home at colorado springs believed to be tied to him. a law enforcement official told the ap he may have gotten into a fight with his wife before renting the cyber truck. police are looking for the motive but officials say he too was acting alone. there are plenty of unanswered questions that remain. what kinds of new threats are bubbling just underneath the surface? is isis walking among us? one thing is for certain, this is not how we expected to ring in the new year. joining me former secretary of state mike pompeo. honour to have you here. you're the perfect guest to

speak to this. i want to pull up a list of isis-inspired attacks to put into perspective just how big of an attack this was. and as you can see at the top was pulse nightclub the deadliest left 49 dead and new orleans tied with san bernardino at 14 dead. we know at its height, isis was controlling a territory the size of britain about a third of syria, about 40% of iraq, and then you came in with president trump. isis was decimated. what do you assess that isis is today after four years of president biden? >> good evening. sadly we're right back in the soup again. precisely where we were in january 2017 just as you referred to with isis roaming free and cutting the heads off civilians on the beaches. we all remember those videos and the acts in new orleans remind us all that evil still roams.

that lost the loved ones. >> i do too. and i hope that that anecdote takes place again in just a few days. it's really intriguing to hear that. you know, do you fear that isis is in the country now? when we look, there was the attack in moscow that left 137 dead, they planned an aelection day attack. there were individuals connected to isis and eight of which enters the country. do you think isis is walking among us? >> listen to director ray in the fbi and all the lights are flashing. i fear precisely what we saw play out. there's a hundred folks in the terror watch list come across the southern border. we don't have any idea where the folks are. i fear not only folks who are members of isis or inspired by isis as we saw but there are planners, there are plans, there are people who might well be activated. this is the task that president trump and his team will face. they need to find them all and take down the networks, do the

confirmed president trump in the first term. they are held by the allies in northern syria. if they get released that go to syria and iraq and to america. we have to make sure we do everything we can to support our syrian kurdish allies and make sure that the isis guys stay in jail. we have to make sure that the new regime and hope they're moderate and claiming they've given up the past and keep the isis folks in jail because if those 9,000 terrorists get released, they will wreak havoc over the middle east and here in the homeland. >> you wrote an excellent article on foreign affairs and it really kind of sums up the trump doctrine. people say we don't have a few words to sum it up. peace through strength. this really in long form sums it up. i want to pull up the headline. the return of peace through strength and president trump and you and pompeo and others did it once. how does president trump do it again as he stares down china and time to reunify with taiwan?

this takes me back to 2016 and isis strength and not just in the strength and caliphate and propaganda and english language propaganda and we have seen both of those rise in the last year. 2024 was the last year that isis given safe havens to live in and work out of. some parts of afghanistan and syria. also a year in which we started to see online english propaganda rise up again because they had areas in which they could do this. there was great concern that if you take what is happening around the world, you see these parts which are not thriving at the moment, that is where this propaganda will come from. we believe that jabbar was watching and released five pro isis videos driving towards new orleans and one which the fbi said he was talking about showing the viewers the disbelievers versus the believers. so very key he was propagated the isis propaganda and great concern as we move forward that it is not taken off islamic terrorism. we have seen it grow not only

around the world but also inside of the u.s. when you look at the protests and pro hamas protests following october 7th. this is something that will continue to grow if it wasn't dealt with. both inside the middle east as well as online. >> you know, benjamin, that's really interesting. you point to the fact that isis lost all this territory but they kind of made gains online. and indeed they promised to commit more attacks and really chilling when you read the messages we just read. so i mean if someone sees this, i guess you refer it to social media and then to the fbi. they say see something, say something. the new version should be looking out for this on social media, is that right? >> it should be. there are groups such as telegram with pro isis accounts and pro al qaeda accounts and being shut down as quickly as you can. they continue to rise up again. you shut down and they come up elsewhere. and the counter terrorism had an eye on this. there are communities also being
