4:01 am
your whole [bleep] life. >> steve: uh-oh. >> lawrence: getting worse every week. dems on schumer picking back when he asked about if he misled americans about biden's decline. >> we didn't. let's look at president biden. he has had an amazing record. is he a patriot. >> steve: okay. thanks, chuck. and making history. one military academy cadet becomes the first to be nominated to all four service academies, extraordinary. and he shares his excitement ahead of service on this show. >> brian: second hour of "fox & friends" starts right now. your mornings are better with friends. get dressed. >> ainsley: we will start with a fox weather alert that effects a lot of people around our country. at least 60 million people are under winter weather warnings yesterday as massive storms bring heavy ice, heavy snow and freezing cold temperatures from the midwest all the way over
4:02 am
here to the east coast. >> steve: at least half a dozen states are calling for a state of emergency from kansas to the east coast as blizzard-like conditions wreak havoc from side to side. >> lawrence: more than 200,000 power outages have already been reported across the country and countless school closures have to be expected. >> brian: brandy campbell is live in louisville, kentucky. good morning, brandy. >> good morning, guys, yeah. we are kicking off this new year with the first big snow storm of the year. here in louisville, as you can see, we got some light snow coming down but we are already coated in snow. we had nine inches of it to come down yesterday and another 1 to 3 to fall today. going across the broad scope of this storm. we have had places like kansas, they already have blizzard conditions, but also crippling ice in places like missouri and ohio valley and right now, we are seeing ice or snow, i should say, in our nation's capital.
4:03 am
now, we want to talk about some of the main issues that people are facing. that's going to be power outages. they have already mentioned over 200,000 more specifically 260,000 customers across states from missouri to virginia dealing with those power outages and keep in mind we have very cold temperatures in those states at this time. roads, they are very tricky. especially with some locations seeing ice accumulating overnight like where we are in louisville. schools also many kids they have been out for the past two weeks due to the holidays where they are getting an extra day off. a true snow day. we have classes canceled from west of news kansas city and, of course, further east in major cities like d.c., maryland, and virginia. or states i should say. meanwhile, if you are looking to travel today, it is going to be tricky. airports, of course, dealing with issues because of the snow and ice. here in louisville, we are seeing a lot of cancellations, the worst of the flight issues
4:04 am
in our nation's capital, d.c., reagan international airport had already nearly 60% of their flights canceled today. this storm very tricky, dangerous for folks. we have seen a lot of accidents out here. it's not over. guys, going to send it back to you. >> steve: it is not over. brandy, thank you very much. live report from quengt. right now bring in the governor of kentucky. andy beshear joins us live. governor, i would imagine that your message to the people of kentucky in that area is just stay home today because it's going to be a mess? >> we are in the midst of a winter weather event. 6 to 8 inches of snow followed by half an inch of ice across most of kentucky. more than originally expected. a half an inch of ice can bring down tree limbs. can bring down power lines. we got about 100,000 people
4:05 am
without power. some may look good because we have had 2300 transportation workers out trying to clear them. that level of ice means almost every single road is icy. we need people off the roads to treat them and utility folks. it's going to get dangerously cold starting tomorrow. wind gusts that can make fixing the utility lines dangerous. so we have really got one day to try to get power back to as many kentuckians as possible before the wind chill gets down close to zero. so we have got a lot of work to do. but the good news is, we have no major injuries. thus far. we haven't had any reports that we have lost anybody thus far. for a state been through our worst tornadoes and flooding and polar plunges and tornadoes the last five years we were ready for this. thanks to your meteorologist and a lot of others, we had a lot of
4:06 am
press time. still, a lot of work to do and the best thing people can do is stay home, stay safe. remember those folks out treating the roads or repairing utility lines, those are americans, too. they leave their family to protect ours to try to get everything back up and running and we got look out for they're safety, too. >> ainsley: i know when something like this happens and lose electricity. sometimes it can go on for a week or o10 days after a while it can be very dangerous for certain families and for the elderly. are you getting help from other states even though 27 states right now are feeling the effects of this storm? >> one thing we do well in this country help each other in difficult times. utility workers from all over the country. prestageed in kentucky. in eastern kentucky where it can be some of the hardest to get it back up, the number of trees and the terrain. we have an entire state park filled with utility workers from other states that are already
4:07 am
going to work. you know, my concern out there right now is the wind gust can make putting the buckets up difficult and then if other people are out on the road, just the concern that they could slip or slide and the danger that could present to utility workers. so, if there is something positive right now about having 100,000 people without power is it's pretty spread cross the state. though some counties are hit more than others. what that means is it is multiple utilities, which means that we can have a pretty significant response. but, in each of our hard hit counties we have warming centers that are open. we are getting the word out to people. so those that lose power that have medical devices that need to run, need to be moving towards that warming center, if you don't have power up midday when we are going to probably get 1 to 3 inches more of snow, you need to be looking at that warming center. so our message is stay home, unless you don't have power. and then make sure that we get our friends and neighbors to safe places.
4:08 am
again, like i mentioned, we have been through a lot in kentucky. we are tough, resilient people. we also care about each other. everybody look out after your neighbor. >> brian: governor, looking at some of the stats, on average in winter kentucky gets about 8 inches of snow. buffalo that's called a wednesday. in kentucky it's kind of new. there is a way to drive in the snow and the ice. does that concern you that you don't have a lot of experience with that? >> well, certainly the snow is one challenge but a half an inch of ice anywhere is going to present really significant challenges you get to an a quarter of an inch. road challenges. starting tomorrow morning it will be so cold that the salt isn't going to work nearly as well. our challenge isn't that too many people are out on the roads because they heard the warnings. did a good job of staying safe yesterday. out on the road are moving too
4:09 am
fast. that can be folks coming through kentucky because we are such a logistics hub in the middle of the country. we have a lot of logistics and freight that moves through each and every day. this morning if i have a concern it's that you can see the road which gives false confidence. in other words, we have gotten the snow off but still a lot of ice, especially black ice. whether you have an icing event of this degree, you can't treat every inch of the road. so people need to expect when they're out that that road is icy and take their time. >> lawrence: governor, real quickly before we let you go, this is not the worse of the storm. do you worry people will go out and restock. i remember when i was back home for the holiday my parents we ate them out of house and home. parents have been with the kids through the 4508ds. they are probably low on food and other supplies as well. they may be trying to get out there and get more supplies do you have a shelter in place or
4:10 am
can people still get stuff if they need it. >> they can get out and get things they need i would say just be careful. we have one more day today that we need the roads as clear as we can for the safety of workers out there and get the roads in the best shape we can especially starting tomorrow morning people can get safely to the groceries. now i have two teenagers so i understand the being eaten out of house and home. but i know we can make it one more day and everybody out there that can. tomorrow should be a lot better. >> steve: just stay home and watch cable and of course my favorite channel is this one you are watching because you are on it right now. >> ainsley: thank you. governor. we wish your state the best. three major airports in kentucky and last night all of the flights were canceled except for one flight. >> lawrence: praying for them. >> steve: the snow is beautiful. as he made clear it is so dangerous with that ice

underneath. president biden is set to visit victims of the bourbon street tay attack later today is flying to new orleans. >> ainsley: senior correspondent jacqui heinrich at the white house for us. good morning, jacqui. >> jacqui: good morning to you guys. president biden spoke to reporters in the east room last night. he gave a preview of the message he will be sharing with the victim's families and the trip today to new orleans, it's a familiar one that we have heard him share after previous tragedies about the need to hold on to each other during times of grief. he also gave an update on the investigation into that attack. he was also asked whether he still believes that white supremacy is the greatest threat to the homeland following criticism that he has down played the isis threat throughout his presidency? long story short he said yes, at the center of any supremacy is a threat to the united states. he also ended up saying this: >> the only thing my being a old

[laughter] and we should talk about that. he did not do a year-end press conference. we don't have anything on the books as far as a presser before the end of his term. it is something that we continue to push for and we're hopeful will happen, but it has been a
