>> good morning, it's 8:00 a.m., tuesday, january 7. this is "fox and friends." a "fox and friends" exclusive, meta's policy chief joined us to explain how meta is revamping ce censorship program to embrace free speech under donald trump. >> with president trump coming into office, for us to get back to those values. >> brian: interesting. and the white house trans ferring 11 gitmo detainees to ahman. and in talks with tlaib for possible swap that includes a bin laden associate. >> lawrence: serving in the military as miss american. madison marsh reflecting on the last year doing double duty. >> steve: final hour of "fox and friends" starts right now.
5:02 am
>> ainsley: a fox news alert. meta policy chief sitting down with "fox and friends" to detail the social media's giant on free speech. >> steve: brooke singman will join us to explain what it all means and breaking news. >> brooke: meta announced changes allowing more free speech and curbing -- mark zuckerberg releasing this message. >> we will simplify policy and restore free expression on our platform, more specifically get rid of fact checkers and replace with notes similar to x starting in the u.s. >> brooke: changes like replacing third-party fact checking with community notes, a

model seen on x. and meta will lift topics like immigration and gender identity. focus on illegal and high severity issue bes instead and reduce removal of political content on its platform. meta joined "fox and friends" in an exclusive interview. >> there is no question the things that happen at meta of coming from mark. there has been a change over last four years. we saw a lot of societal and political pressure in the direction of more content moderation and censorship and we have a new administration and president coming in, big defenders of free expression and that makes a difference. >> brooke: zuckerberg blamed biden administration for forcing
5:04 am
the censorship. >> steve: meta announcing this stuff and they talked about last four years and they are taking a shot at biden administration. biden would say, there is something we don't like, it is not real or inappropriate, take it down. meta and other companies got to make their own decision. when federal government says take that down because of fill in the blank, they usually took it down. now mark zuckerberg said it will change. he said what started as movement to be inclusive has been used to shut down opinions. >> lawrence: i think it goes back to brian's question to joel during the interview. would it be helpful to release files and documentation of what
5:05 am
went on during that period of time? i think it would be helpful for the american public to understand, if they are putting this allegation out and i believe that biden administration asked them to do this. what did they ask them to do and who were they in contact with? that would help with mending fences with the public. >> brian: adam schiff was advocating for things to be taken down. what was he doing on facebook? they said we would like to move forward. maybe they will release it. i feel they were hostage to the administration because only so much they could do to stay in business employees >> steve: point of clarification. when elon musk had the guys take a look at twiert twitter, it was new management.
5:06 am
jack dorsey. mark zuckerberg was there entire time. if they open the books, if there is a smoking gun, it points at him. >> ainsley: what i notice, a lot of people voted for donald trump, liked how strong he was and what he was promising to do with the economy. he got so many votes and look at elon. people are changing. elon said he had never voted republican in his life and he was supporting donald trump. you have mark who seemed to be liberal because of posts and things they were censoring during coved. they were so close to dr. dr. anthony fauci. now he's meeting with trump and saying no more censorship. i wooern if he'll switch gears,
5:07 am
too. >> steve: it's a business decision. >> ainsley: yeah, when you are a billionaire, don't you go with the person that will tax you less, person that has better oil and oil independence. i wonder if they got smart. >> lawrence: he started to change before that. zuckerberg. i don't know if it is the ju jujitsu connection. he looks different, he's speaking different. he talked about how when donald trump got shot, he said it was one of the most bad a things he e everwitnessed. there has been evolution. did this pact his decision? i don't know. >> this is a the great opportunity to reset balance in
5:08 am
favor of free expression. as mark said, what we're doing today, getting back to roots and free expression. there are a number of changes. first is, we're eliminating third party fact-checking system. there is too much political bias. people want to discuss and debate issues. if you can say it on tv, you can say on the floor of congress, you ought to be able to say on facebook or instagram without fear of censorship. we are changing those things and will change how we enforce the r rules and make way less over enforcement and fewer mistakes that make up vast majority of censorship that people experience. big charges in service of getting us back to our values. >> brian: he took leads from .
5:09 am
community notes and exposing and balancing the platform. some people think there is racy stuff on there. that is risk you take. i think they will go down that road. here is more from joel kaplan, and then i have a comment. >> we have a new administration and president coming in, big defenders of free expression and that makes a difference. when you have an administration pushing for censorship, it is open season for other governments that don't have p protection of first amendment. we will work with president trump to push back on that kind of thing. there is real opportunity here with president trump coming into office and his commitment to free expression to get back to values and provide space for debate. there is opportunity to work with new administration on free expression and on american
5:10 am
leadershipship and technology and innovation. president trump is focused on making sure we maintain u.s. competitiveness and leadership on technology. things like ai, those are super important to our company and industry and we look forward to advance those goals. >> brian: going back to joe rogan podcast. rogan brought it up as nonsequittor out of nowhere. to a degree, guilt for 400 million in zuckerberg-bucks and putting that mannequin in the white house for four years. they look around and see it hurt our country, hurt national security, hurt free speech and no longer free to do what they want to do. trump will be upset with a post or two, he will not say, take down facebook. do you think trump is happy with everything on x?
5:11 am
of course not. even truth social, i'm sure people are trolling truth social. wants to level the playing field, stop shadow banning conservative thought, stop banning people and be transparent about what you are doing. we had a terror attack in new orleans. this guy was posting things driving to the terror attack. this guy should have been on the radar. if fbi calls facebook and says i'm worried about this guy might be going terror direction, does facebook say, okay, or go to fisa court? that is where things get gray. i don't want a terrorist who is telling me he is going to attack me, i don't want next assassin, if i can stop him but i don't want me or my enemies who don't
5:12 am
like me or don't like fox being targeted. we should be smart about it. we can't say stop every terrorist and same time say run wild. >> lawrence: another component, people that work in silicon valley that are employees, make no mistake, they are not happy about this move. i mean, i have to give zuckerberg some credit for taking on the progressives that probably 90% of people that are working at tech companies are probably going to disagree with this move. exactly, exactly. >> steve: to thattin po, historically big tech companies have been super left wing companies, we've been reporting on that. >> ainsley: will they implement that? >> steve: it is like what joe biden is doing, throwing so many
5:13 am
roadblocks in way of donald trump. donald trump comes in, he's trying to stymie different things. same thing now with less than two weeks to go, this was a business decision. clearly they are trying to get on donald trump's good side. to brian's point, he doesn't want zuckerberg know didoesn't want donald trump blowing up x and facebook and stuff like that. >> brian: he did have that podcast before the election. >> steve: absolutely, that was when polls were showing donald trump was going to be next election. they could read the writing on the wall. meta is making changes and it will be a more free site. that is a good thing. is it a business feeling? i think it was. >> lawrence: i just appreciate the change. >> ainsley: people know mark zuckerberg and are seeing evolution in his thoughts.
5:14 am
it is like wizard of oz. curtain is pulled back and people realize donald trump told us after first case and second case and next case. we saw what happened in new york and what it was doing to conservatives and curtain pulled back. and mark, in capitol hill, being grilled on this and i think he thought maybe i need to rethink some of this. >> brian: would you say the russia investigation? >> ainsley: absolutely. >> lawrence: egg on their face afterward. they trusted intel experts and it was fabricated. >> ainsley: and hiding hunter biden's laptop. and people would have voted differently if they had known
5:15 am
about the story. >> brian: to another alert. president biden announcing 11 gitmo detainees captured in aftermath of 9/11 terror attack have been trans ferred. >> lawrence: peter doocy joins us now. >> petern white house broad dltd casting for the world to see, not this one. 11 detainees were released so quietly, they were already in oman before we knew. we don't know what they were given. pentagon is saying united states appreciates government of oman and others focusing on reducing detainee population and closing guantanamo bay facility. one still had extremist mindset

adminis administration's. it is up to president biden to decide if best way to get americans back is to let a suspected terror leader go free. back to you. >> brian: absolutely insane. thanks. this is green light to worst of the worse. if you work in bin laden's circle and you are this afghan, now you could get out of jail free if you take americans. how soon until higher-up american is taken and mohammad is back on the street. these three, i want them out, the question is why they are holding them. we are still giving aid to the tlaib in afghanistan right now. >> steve: according to "wall street journal," administration has been negotiabling with tlaib
5:18 am
since last july. they said how about trade this guy for this american, then they came back -- it was one for one and they came back and said, how about a couple more. and tlaib has not said if they will do this or not. all this information was revealed in a classified hearing they had on capitol hill in mid-december. it sounds like clock is ticking. don't be surprised -- >> lawrence: does anybody care about servicemembers and intel agents that went through so much to capture these guys? do we consider lives put at risk to go after -- reason they are not in american jail, this was an intel operation. they will not stand charges on our soil. intelligence agency and door kickers went in to capture these guys to get these people and now
5:19 am
we just trade them over? so disrespectful to men and women that put their lives on the line for this country. >> ainsley: what is joe biden doing in the 11th hour by pardoning people on death row, allowing these individuals to go to middle east where they will probably be retrained and do it over again. why is he trying to sell off border wall material and texas courts decided that will not happen. why is he not allowing drilling in gulf of mexico and some of alaska. doing this to sabotage donald trump campaign or presidency so it will make it hard to be successful. open borders, why would he allow that? people on terror watch list that we know of. >> steve: 13 days to go until
