>> ainsley: straight to a fox news alert. the city of angels looking like a hell scape. this is a live picture right now, three out of control wildfires spreading in the county fuelled by a destructive wind storm. flames tearing through 4000 acres already. >> brian: despite efforts by firefighters, they are zero percent contained. winds will continue through tomorrow, with gusts topping 99 miles per hour. >> steve: l.a. county officials call this a worst case scenario in pasadena. they were battling a fire in pacific palesisades fire.
5:02 am
>> lawrence: tens of thousands in evacuation orders and zone are expanding by the hour. >> the fire is moving so fast and exploding because of the wind. it is inten, you don't know what is going to happen. >> how many horses do you have? >> we're trying to get as many as we can out. >> are homes on fire? >> i did not pay attention, i am getting my horses out. >> we have no idea about our own home. >> lawrence: not just horses, take a look at this, people inside pasadena senior center are forced into a parking lot as the fire was approaching. >> brian: one fire burning rose of oceanknow front homes in
5:03 am
malibu. >> ainsley: janice dean is tracking the wind storm. we'll go out to william, who is live in malibu. william. >> it is a nightmare situation for southern california and l.a. county. this is supposed to be wet season, we have no rain. we have challenging toppography and in dense areas like pali palisades. they are about 50 miles per hour here and 90 miles per hour in the mountains. one residence i showed you this morning is totally engulfed in flames, they are trying to stop it from going to the next home next door. these are really close together. the ocean is on the other side
5:04 am
of that house. we're on coast highway in middle of malibu, which is 27 miles long. we have three major fires burning in five areas around southern california. it began yesterday in residential area in pacific palisades neighborhood and staggering speed with winds, it k kicked, going over several fire breaks topanga canyon and into santa monica. we have sound from a woman in the palisades who witnessed what happened. >> after being born and raised in palisades, having seen numerous evacuations, been through earthquakes and fires, we've been through it all, this is something i was never expecting. >> up and down coast highway, a lot of power lines and posts are down. keith is shooting one right now. fire destroyed the cell tower
5:05 am
and street lamps and that will come down along with others i've witnessed this morning. this scene is not unique, up and down coast highway, windward side. the wind is unpredictable, sometimes coming from the north and sometimes off the ocean and creating its own wind, which is challenging for firefighters. this area is burning several houses here along coast highway. back to you. >> steve: william, question for you. you have been covering fires for decades out there. as we look at this fire on pacific coast highway in malibu and saw the crew spraying water toward it, are they spraying it on the house that is ungulfed or house next door because you try to spray roofs so embers don't come over. that is a losing proposition, if that house is on fire, my house
5:06 am
is next. >> and it is. it has moved about 9 to 12 homes in a row, bang, bang, bang. that one they tried to save this morning at 6:00 your time, that house was fine and so was the one next to it. put my goggles back on. they are trying to cool it down, numbers house over. parts of this power line -- it is very hard, there is no structure protection. it doesn't matter how much water you put on, the next home is going to burn, they are only a foot or two apart. >> ainsley: will you ask the cameraman to show all the homes, you said 12 homes, throughout the course of this morning, you said three have gone down. you can see the homes that used
5:07 am
to stand on the beach. >> keith, pan slowly to the left and people will see what you see, remnants of the flames, those were homes. you couldn't see the water because of the homes, now they are all gone. pan over to the lights down there, those were all homes, they are gone. i got here probably about four hours ago and half of them were standing. there was about six gone this morning. this situation is not unique, up and down pch, homes along the beach, which are remarkably cool on the deck overlooking the ocean, sometimes it goes underneath. i used to run my dog on this beach, they are destroyed. expensive homes probably 10 million each. >> steve: holy cow.
5:08 am
>> lawrence: has there been improvement in the wind? that is preventing aircraft from getting up there to put water down on it. >> the winds have actually, they are spotty. they are worse now than they were an hour ago. it could go calm. spay are speculative and they come and go and sometimes off water and sometimes the offshore breezes. when firefighters, you can see, they pulled out. not pulled out, they are trying to cool down the next residence. >> brian: in floridaed, when a hurricane hits, they know what to do or how to handle it. same with fires in california. >> there goes the power line. >> steve: be careful. >> yeah, at least it went that
5:09 am
direction and not this one. power poles up and down pch. this situation what can you do, can you imagine how long it will take to get power, 200,000 people without power. our power was knocked out yesterdays morning as precaution because of high winds. >> brian: the wood pole just broke in half? >> steve: it fell toward the water. had it fallen the other way, you were right there, right? >> yeah, we are far enough away, it would have been scary. we are on the other side of the road. these power lines are down along pch, so -- >> ainsley: william, do you need to leave? are you safe? >> yeah, we're okay. we're okay.
5:10 am
we can move the other direction if we needed to. >> brian: quick thing to finish my question. where do these people go? they can't go to santa monica, are they heading north? >> they can go over the hill to a agora, woodland hills. but pch is closed from the tunnel coming off the 10 all the way to -- our first stop this morning was around pepperdine. they probably moved that north. i got to imagine so many more people will wake up this morning and find themselves under mand mandatory evacuation. when i got up this morning and was looking at coverage, it was all in pasadena and nothing in malibu, no crews here. i came south and expected to make it to the palisades, i did
5:11 am
not get halfway there because of situations like this. >> brian: is that where you live, around there? >> i live in zuma. i come to west l.a. about 26 miles. pepperdine is probably 10 miles south of me. fire had reached almost cross creek. a situation like here, fire on the ocean side and fire on retail on the land side, if you will, not quite to the town center, definitely -- >> steve: what was that? >> well, probably -- i was going to say probably a propane tank. >> steve: my goodness. >> i went through the woolsey fire in my own neighborhood and you would go in afterward and gas is still going, gas has not
5:12 am
been cut off or haven't been. you see gas running even when there is no house the left. >> ainsley: can you imagine what the family is feeling if they are watching fox. >> steve: estimating peek peak wind by 5:00 a.m. this morning. we'll let you step aside and talk to your crew and see if you are safe or if you evacuate to another location and we'll be back in a little bit. amazing coverage. >> lawrence: we're watching that house, any moment it could collapse, this is fuel for the flame. the fire department is in a tough position, they are trying to stop it from spreading, but they're in a no-win situation with the wind. they have everything going against them, wind, they can't get helicopters in the air. then you try to save what you
5:13 am
can save. >> ainsley: yeah. any moment the wind can shift. senior meteorologist janice dean is tracking the dangerous winds fuelling the fires. >> janice: you know we are watching something historic. it is unbelievable. we had wind gusts close to 100 mile per hour. we knew potential was there and within matter of hours, three fires burning out of control. i'm concerned about the eaton fire, which started last night. we have a lot of structural damage and fire burning everywhere. here is wind gages. these are gages in place to track winds, not for wildfire per se, but 57 mile per hour, 56 miles per hour. that is knowa estimate of some winds. you heard william say, because fires are so ferocious, they can create their own weather pattern
5:14 am
and it is so erratic. we saw william reporting a few hours ago and now you know the winds are worse than they were a couple hours ago. this is palisades fire. this is at least 3000 acres, have not gotten reports since last night, so you know that has expanded in areas. here are wind gusts, 99 miles per hour. look at burbank, that is hurricane-force winds these firefighters are dealing with. this is the eaton fire, some reports saying this could be epic in scale. this is an evolving situation, here are wind gusts, 70 to 80 miles per hour and enough to spread and start fires. this will not end this morning, it will continue for next couple
5:15 am
of days and that is so concerning. three separate fires burning out of control, not contained and firefighters are trying to save others while their homes are burning. devastating. >> steve: that is point of view from somebody whose husband is in the fire business, you know all about it, jd. >> brian: next guest caught this view of the fire through the window of his lax flight until his plane was forced to land. >> ainsley: matt ganella joins us now. you were flying from san jose to lax. pilot didn't say anything and you thought that was odd, tell us what that flight was like. >> in san jose already, knew something was up. pilot said we're suspending food and drink service and we're in for a turbulent flight to get to
5:16 am
lax. my wife sent me like a tiktok referring to we were going to have 80 to 100 mile per hour winds, i was wondering why we were taking off, had no idea about a fire. had a window seat and i lover looking out the window and seeing the coastline as you fly down and caught that tail of smoke moving across the sky and couldn't believe when you look at something like that, you can't believe what you are processing, you are thinking, what happened, is that real, this is -- what is happening, pure devastation. >> steve: matt, we're looking at your images you took and i've been on a jetlindsey er flying a
5:17 am
fire, as well. you can smell smoke and there is a lot of smoke and it scares living daylights out of you. >> i could see the pilot was going out to the ocean and there was planes ahead of us going into the wall of smoke knowing we were going that direction, as well. i was like, what is about to happen. it was a clear day, which is contrast of going from this clear day right into this brown cloud. then starting to, as you said, smelling smoke in the cabin of the plane, it is unsettling and turbulent because of 80 mile per hour winds and trying to pros the fact there is a massive fire happening in what seemingly is a neighborhood, still wasn't sure exactly what we were looking at but we could see after we
5:18 am
cleared the brown smoke, could see the flames on the side of the hill and it looked like pure devastation, it was horrific. >> ainsley: you were in new york during 9/11, i'm sure that went through your mind. i'm glad you are safe. >>yia, yeah, i'm listening to your reports, this is devastating. you can hear the wind outside, we are in irvine south. monitoring what is going on, can only imagine what people are going through north of where we are. >> lawrence: we're praying for you guys. >> ainsley: we are. >> thanks for having me. >> lawrence: you got it, president biden is in l.a. as wildfires tear through the area. >> brian: >> lucas: joins us from the white house. lucas. >> lucas: president biden flew to l.a. after visiting new orleans on monday. he was supposed to be with

native american tribes and ban hundreds of thousands of acres of drilling, those plans were scrapped yesterday. we did receive a statement from white house in the president's name, i'll read it in part. it says, quote, my team and i are in touch with state and local officials and i've offered assistance for the palisades fire. i urge residents in the areas of los angeles to stay vigilent and listen to local officials. here is vice president harris, one-time senator. she says doug and i are praying for our fellow californians who have evacuated and thinking of families who are in harm's way. here is gavin newsom, california's governor yesterday. >> no politics, no hand wringing, no kissing on the feet, president of the united states said yes, what else do
5:20 am
you need? emergency proclamation is being drafted as we speak and i want to thank the president, that is something i don't take for granted. >> lucas: president biden will return to the white house tonight, would expect the president to say something before he departs on air force one. he has two weeks remaining in office. >> ainsley: thank you so much, more "fox and friends" coming up. pursue a better you with centrum. ♪ it's a small win toward taking charge of your health. ♪ so, this year, you can say... ♪you did it!♪

pch which runs along the pacific coast there is the main thoroughfare. in and out north and south. you have little arteries that go through the mountains but some of that is within the evacuation zone. that was a commute i did every day. i lived aways and drove through the canyons to get to pepperdine. those are narrow roads, two lanes and they wind like this and they are not an evacuation route. even so, then they go into a further area that's an evacuation zone. your point is well taken. there is not a lot of places to go. i'm sure clogged by traffic. >> steve: one final thing, will. in this report you are talking about two of the most beautiful places on earth around malibu and maui as well and they are so beautiful. and people are drawn to them. but at the same time it can be so dangerous. >> yeah, i don't know if there is something in there

philosophically, steve. specifically both locations but in california where the mountains meet the sea and people build beautiful homes. it is not just rich people. a lot of the stuff we focus is pepperdine and the getty villa. there are mobile home parks in there as well. everyday middle class americans in there as well and this is a bit of the risk assumption. fires, mudslides, earthquakes, a little piece of price for paradise. >> ainsley: i wonder if some of these people will decide not to rebuild, sell land and i'm out of here. it's dangerous. no one wants to live through these and we keep seeing the fires oust there. >> brian: we'll check out your podcast today. >> ainsley: a press conference today at 11:00 eastern and 8:00 a.m. pacific time as the fire continues. we'll cover it all day. >> steve: see you tomorrow. >> are you good?
