10,000 acres of structure. that number yesterday was around 2,000 structures. the death toll doubled overnight rising to at least ten now. 153,000 people are currently under evacuating orders and millions of people received evacuating warnings in error. officials don't seem to know why. >> there's extreme amount of frustration, anger and fear with regards to the erroneous messages that are sent out through the wireless emergency alert system across l.a. county. we have every technical specialist working to resolve this issue and to find the root cause. >> fox weather correspondent robert ray is live in malibu, what is the latest you are seeing there? >> yeah, sandra and everyone look behind me on the pacific coast highway in malibu.

as far as you can see, destruction. you hear the signs of the fire departments going by, there's thousands of personnel on the ground. this is a place famous around the world. malibu and it is in full destruction and what you see, power lines without electricity down by the winds and all the fire, smoldering debris and that debris is people's belongings, their homes and businesses that were burnt in these infernos by these santa monica winds in the past few days. wind can the gusts up to 100 miles an hour, category two force wind gusts. they have died down but the fires still rage in the hills above me as we looking at the pictures from this area, the pacific palisades and the neighborhoods that are destroyed, over 10,000 structures are gone. over 50,000 structures are

threatened in these los angeles fires. the palisades fire is historically the largest in l.a. county ever. over 20,000 acres burned. the eaton fire fire over 14 thousand burns across the santa monica mountains. firefighters are fighting this from not only the ground but the air because they can get up into the air now because the winds have died down. though those winds did activate last night flaring some fires here and they've been added throughout the night and morning to try and get those down and some those fires down and create a containment line. this fire here in the ball saids is continue to get better right now. those santa monica winds are coming again next week, early on so there is a fight to get all of this done and get all of this before it all comes back. ten people have lost their lives

unfortunately and many are injured as so many people are asking big questions as to how all this happened. meanwhile first responders from multiple states and parts of california have moved in to fight this battle right now. sandra and john? >> robert ray live there in santa monica. >> what was it like in the fires coming through. we have a pasadena resident and he had to evacuate twice in the 24 hours. bruce, how are you doing now and where are you hanging out since you got evacuated twice. >> thank you for having me. i'm not happy to be here but i think it's important for people to hear. i live in pasadena one and a half miles from eaton fire can john where the fire started and a tuesday night our neighbor sent a picture of our next door

neighbors house with flames above it. my wife and i were out of the house and that is my next door neighbors house. eaton fire is behind it. we were horrified to see that. we were out of our house in an hour and went to my stepdaughter's house in eagle rock seven miles west thinking that would be sufficient. spent the night there and woke up to learn parts of eagle rock were also under evacuation and we relocated to the west side to a friend's house near a business and l.a. x airport and have been there sense. this is friday morning. three days. >> so tell me, when you saw the picture of the fire looming there in eaton fire canyon above the neighbor's house what went through your mind? >> i was shocked. we had strong winds for the last 24 hours trying to knock my fence down and that's not too

uncommon this time of year but these were different. they have a different name but they were 90 mile an hour gusts and i stepped outside and was hit in the face with smoke and debris swirling around and tried to look up the street and walked a few blocks and then thought this is silly and got back to the house and my wife was pack together leave. >> wow. >> so many people have you know been through california wildfires before and we've seen the destruction on some of those but most people who are you know saw this, most people were caught up in this saying they have never seen anything move so fast or furiously. what are your thoughts about that? >> well exactly. you said it right there. there's all kinds of things being said right now and right now we need to focus on the devastation and the loss of life and trying to wrap our arms around people that need help but

imagine standing in 90 mile-an-hour gusts of winds by a bonfire. how do you contain that? embers were picked up and flown hundreds of yards even miles and i got back to my house last night for the first time and thankfully my house is standing and the entire street is, but two blocks away there are individual homes that are completely gone next to those standing and what that tells me is, it all depends on which way the wind was blowing. >> it's like a tornado sometimes it takes a half a block and then a house in the middle might have got missed. the fire in pacific palisades seemed more indiscriminate. entire neighborhoods are gone. a lot of folks lost their neighborhoods? >> i know a lot yes i do. i'm still in shock and grieving. we are just south of altadena and it the next community north of us and my son's elementary

school there, beautiful school, sent a mark's with a chapel that had been there for 100 years is gone. completely gone. so many friends. dozens with homes there are gone. i still can't process it. >> you eluded to this a seconding a. there's a lot of talk and finger pointing going on as to where the state and the county was ready for anything like this i know the immediate jat concern is to make sure people have a place to stay and the folks that might have been caught up in the fire are discover ring so their families nowhere they are but what are your thoughts now in terms of whether or not the city stand county were prepared for th this? >> well there will be time too fiend out and time to find out all the the facts and i hope people have a sober assessment of facts and not conspiracy but

again i was standing there in my home a mile and a half from where this fire started, and if you were at 90 mile an hour gusts of winds by a bonfire who is able to stop that? eaton fire canyon we were walking our dogs there new year's day. we hike there all the time. it's called a canyon for a reason. there's parts that are not accessible so if a fire starts you have to air drop water. tuesday night the winds were so bad the helicopters and planes were not able to fly so they were not able to access the source of the fire and the wind was whipping it up and sending it in all directions. there will be plenty of time to look at the facts and i hope the truth comes out but right now we need to pray for the firefighter who is are still battling this fire and knocking it down and the people who lost their homes
