conscience and faith should have no bearing on whether you get promoted. the only thing that matters how capable are you at your job? how excellent are you with your job? it's time to give somebody with dusts on their boots a job. someone with no vested interest in companies or programs or approved narratives. my only special interest is the war fighter. >> hegseth facing off with democratic senators questioning his personal life and qualif qualifications. >> did you ever engage in any domestic issues with your wives? >> senator, absolutely not. >> you agree that that would be disqualifying as secretary of defense. >> you're quite sure that every general who serves should not go directly into the defense industry for 10 years, you're not willing to make the same pledge?

2:05 pm
every time hegseth would answer, they say, sounds like you pro rape. they care less about what he says than framing their brain parts. pete is the middle finger in camouflage aimed at that managerial class we call politicians. what soldiering and the war fighter looks like. rachel levine, sam brenton, that wasn't the real world but the kind that exploited sound minds. it was so far from reality it was funny. here, he's the public face of the war fighter, not the public face of identity. >> dana: i wanted to add one more thing based on that. a question rick scott asked him. sometimes republicans ask him a friendly question.
2:06 pm

combat arms and not combat arms. in ways direct, indirect, overt and subtle, standard have been changed. jessica, i don't expect the democrats will vote for him. did he answer the mail and all the questions they put toward him? >> jessica: i don't think for everyone. he didn't need the numbers and made that clear. i thought the strongest points the democrats made. senator reid, shin and gary peters made, pete didn't meet with any of the democrats, they reached out to talk to him and his team and he didn't take any of those meetings. they all emphasized the fact they have been on this committee for a long time and voted for past nominees from the opposing party. this isn't typically a partisan one as far as confirmations go. i thought that was, it was actually surprised me about pete, someone i know personally
2:10 pm
and engages with me across the aisle in conversations and opens up to that kind of discourse. i thought that was a really big missed opportunity, especially in context of the turn that you clearly have seen from joni ernst, very public about her concerns about pete's nomination. someone who has served the country and been sexually assaulted in the military. made no bones in talking about that in very public forums. i thought if joni ernst turned and now in the pro-pete camp, this has been an easy confirmation. it's clear she changed her thoughts on him. in terms of women in the combat roling, elizabeth warren was quoting pete back to him. as recently as 32 days ago, you had a different position on this.
2:11 pm
i think that when you look tammy duckworth in the eye and joni ernst. tammy duckworth losing both legs. you better have a good reason to back it up and not oh i'm up for this position now and i decided to change my position on it. one of most poignant moments is pointing to the soldier's creed. what they sign up with and go into battle. how they protect and seven. that sounded exactly like how pete talks about his country. i couldn't really make sense why he would be parroting there's quotas they have to have female quotas. or to say this is all about the wokeification and we heard dei over and over again from the republicans on the panel, i didn't see any evidence of that
2:12 pm
when you look at tammy duckworth and women who are not needing a lower standard but can lift the weights, do the run are going out there and doing for our country. >> jess if you met with democrats, they would all love you. >> jesse: it's called a charm offensive. pete was trying to shore up the votes on the republican side and didn't have time for the democrats. to answer greg's question, no you are not confirmable. trump would not have had a better lead off hitter for this cabinet confirmations. this guy hit a walk-off home run, he was eloquent, he was passionate. and the youth factor was huge. you see that guy that spirited, framed up against these disheveled old guys who look
2:13 pm
like they need a cup of coffee to walk in there that late in the morning, this is what the generation is there for. to take the range of the old generation who has run this down. the army can't recruit. the navy can't build ships. the democrats were stuck defending the status quo. you need a guy who is not status quo to come in and change things. they voted to confirm all of the guys at the pentagon who were obviously not qualified for job. then they're getting lectured on character about guy that is lied on serving in vietnam or lied about their race to get a job. give me a break. pete never drank on the job. congress just opened up own c canc
2:14 pm
cantina. they have beer liquor and wine delivered to offices. pete settled a lawsuit falsely accusing him of sexual assault. congress has a slush fund to settle sexual cases against them. democrats injected politics into the pentagon. they had drag queen story hour. pete is trying to bring it out of there. greg made an analogy. i see it and raise one. pete is like hydrogen peroxide. the pentagon is an open wound. you need pete to treat the wound. stings a little bit, but it's cleansing and it's their fault. you need somebody like pete to bring it home. i'm with judge, i am so proud of pete. i basically taught him everything he knows. >> dana: same for all of us.
