from washington tonight. thank you as always for joining. swamp line is the focus of tonight's "angle." what makes official washington nervous code nervous, especially of the bureaucracy protectors and the democrat party are true change agents, people with guts and determination to challenge the status quo? >> two months ago, 77 million americans gave president trump a powerful mandate for change to put america first, at home and abroad appear to i don't have a similar biography to defend secretaries over the last 30 years. but as president trump also told me, we have repeatedly placed people at top of the pentagon with supposedly the right credentials, and where has it gotten us? he believes and i humbly agree that it is time to give someone with dust on his boots a home. >> laura: children and small dogs had to cover their ears because the sand from the democrats and the committee was

classic. i think it was an unpleasant mix of resignation and bitterness. we bring you the swamp line. >> yes or no, have you done any audit? yes or no? what are you afraid of? you can't answer this question, do you do an audit, yes or no? i will take that as a no. >> you said in your statement, you don't want politics in the dod. everything you said in the public statement is politics. i don't want women. i don't want one to make mom. after you have babies, you are no longer able to be lethal? >> you are quite sure every general who served should not go directly into the defense industry for ten years? you are not willing to make that same pledge? >> i am not a general, senator. [laughter] >> laura: all right, well, to watch the democrats was painful
1:03 am
to watch that. but look at the bright side, hegseth has not even been sworn in yet and discovered a new technique for enhanced interrogation. let's force all the high-value prisoners at gitmo, the few that are left, to listen to this. [overlapping voices clos]. >> laura: get me out of here! they are all screeching because they all know pete hegseth is going to be confirmed. so today was purely political theater. >> you have denigrated members of the lgbtq t community. >> laura: they love hegseth instead of being a puppet of the hill, hegseth will actually implement trump's policies. now, that will be a market change from the first trump administration when the military leadership and senior aides
1:04 am
often resisted trump's agenda. there were roadblocks to it. fiona hill, senior white house aide, she worked for bush and obama and she is still fighting trump. of course the neocon chimney sweep john bolton who is batting, you know, zero and most of his predictions appear to them there is alexandra van and then they triggered the first trump impeachment. he is a hero of the left. the generals, millie mcmaster and mattis, they were all highly credentialed and served their country proudly and highly educated and often spectacularly wrong. but setting aside posts 2020 nastiness, it often seems like they were at the thought of the commander-in-chief not like trump. they felt like they knew more than he did appear to but really they are stuck in a cold war mentality. the fact is america even with selfless brave troops has not been able to win a major war
1:05 am
right since world war ii. think about it, that is wild. trillions of dollars of spending. then we lose thousands of best troops in afghanistan and iraq essentially to withdraw forever wars that triggered new problems. instead of talking about the need and examining all of this, the need for a real military reform, instead of preparing to work with president trump on ways to make the pentagon more efficient, the best senate democrats could do today was a french gotcha nonsense. >> did you take your staff including young female staff members to a strip club? >> absolutely not. >> you can't tell me whether someone who has committed a sexual assault is disqualified from being secretary of defense? senator, i know in my instance and i'm talking about my instance only, it was a false claim. >> will you resign up

secretary depends on the job? the men and women i am serving the most important appointment. >> insert my question, i will move on. >> laura: flipping pages. then senator markwayne mullin came in for the slam-dunk. how many senators have shown up to vote at night? [laughter] have any of you guys asked him to step down and resign from their job? and don't tell me you haven't seen it because i know you have. how many senators do you know have gotten into ports for cheating on their wives question what did you ask them to step? no, but it is for show. >> laura: [applause] now, ouch! and of course, it would not be a senate confirmation hearing without the liberal female senators obsessing on their favorite subject, abortion. >> grant dod policy allows
1:07 am
service members eligible dependents to be reimbursed for child associated with noncovered reproductive health care, including abortions. will you maintain this common sense policy? >> senator i have been pro-life and president trump has his will and we will review all policies, but our standard is whatever the president wants on this particular issue have advised, i will take it up it up. >> it will not be maintained. you will not enable our service members to seek reproductive care. >> i don't believe the federal government -- >> laura: have you ever wondered for a second when you watch these hearings. we watch them so you don't have to coach about when you are watching the hearings and you wonder what would happen if they lost their pages in front of them, i have to read a teleprompter but i write my script. if you haven't written your questions and you rely on an aid to write your questions, what
1:08 am
happens when the papers go away? they should take away all papers and let the whole thing go that way for a while. that would be fun to watch. i'm sorry, that is lazy maisie and innate trump administration, abortion will not be considered a core mission of military, thank you very much. republicans on the committee focus on the issues that actually matter, china or cybersecurity, of the things that our military needs to get a handle on. so let's be clear appear to the reasons that democrats oppose hegseth have to do with personal foibles are managerial skills, no, they want to stop him because he will implement trump's agenda period! which includes accountability project. >> accountability is coming because everybody in this room knows if you are a rifleman and you lose your rifle, they are throwing the book at you. but if you are a channel who loses a war, you get a
1:09 am
promotion. that is not going to happen and donald trump's pentagon. >> laura: and what else won't happen? it pentagon that worries about fighting climate change more than fighting her aunt in enemies. >> my secretary of navy will not be focused on climate change in the navy. just like the secretary of the air force will not be focused on lg powered fighter jets. for the secretary of the army will not be focused on electric tanks. >> laura: at that point, steam was coming out of cheap insets running running mouth elizabeth warren sears. it was all on they bet the farm on mainstreaming transgenderism in the military that thought that was here to stay here till they are live head coach at they are livid hegseth will get the welcome and of war fighting including the surface cabinets. >> you have to rip root and
1:10 am
branch politics and divisive policies out of these institutions and then focus them on creating and preparing actual future military leadership. when that changes, senator, i truly believe under donald trump we will have a renaissance. >> laura: we need a recruiting renaissance we are down 50,000, 60,000, 70,000. we know how to win our wars because as hegseth said time and again today the u.s. military is not a social program and it's not a charity and it is not supposed to promote a particular ideology. it exist to defeat the enemies of the united states of america period! for too long we got away from that mission and the results have been absolutely disastrous for us and for the world. today for the first time in years, we can actually see what a reformed and successful military would actually look like. and that is "the angle."
1:11 am
joining me senator markwayne mullin and tom cotton who sat on the surface arms committee. senator mullin, let's start with you. your colleague joni ernst said she will back hegseth and that is huge. do you anticipate any republican defections given how well hegseth did today? >> i think pete absolutely nailed it, laura. thank you for having me on, by the way. i wasn't surprised at all for joni making an announcement. i thought she played her hand right meaning she did exactly what she said she was going to do and hold until the hearing. she came out immediately and said she would support because of the performance pete had today. them, susan collins and markowski both said they wanted to listen to the hearing too. i know susan personally paid close attention to it. i believe without question pete will be confirmed. when i think he will have a
1:12 am
strong support from all of the republicans men and women alike. i think he has the right person for that job and president trump did a wonderful job by picking him to be the next secretary of defense. >> laura: senator cotton, i think a lot of americans who caught a little snippet of this today were shocked, frankly, to find out we are doing a lot of this woke step in the military. people don't cover it like we do and now when all is iteration of change of policy and the military, but it really has hurt in many ways our military readiness and hurt a recruiting, which i think he talked about today. >> yeah, laura, and fortunately, political correctness run on math and social engineering has harmed our military, therefore, harmed our national security. it has declined recruiting numbers and we are at a recruiting crisis and it has harmed readiness. our troops don't deserve their pronouns on their i.d. tags.
1:13 am
they don't need to do the privilege walks. they don't have to go through repeated training sessions about diversity, equity and inclusion. what they deserve is hard, realistic training to prepare them to defend this nation at war time code to the kind of training pete hegseth has conducted and that he has run. that is one of the reasons donald trump picked him to be secretary of defense and stuck with him through thick and thin. so i do think pretty soon, pete is going to have the requisite number of votes to be confirmed and the senate. when that happens, i hope the democrats will not delay or otherwise obstruct this nomination. if they want to vote against him, that is fine. pet president trump deserve to have his secretary of defense on the job promptly. >> laura: senator mullin, chuck schumer claims that hegseth is unfit for the job. watch. >> he is, by outward appearance, woefully unfit for a job like
1:14 am
secretary of defense. unfortunately for mr. hegseth, his testimony for us far to address this disturbing questions that plague his nomination. it appears mr. hegseth's strategy is to follow the five ds of dodgeball. dodge, dip, dive, and dodge. >> laura: this is unserious -- i'm serious former senate majority leader. he is reading his remarks. he can't even speak x burns heinously about the confirmation battle and that is the best he can do? >> what is unfortunate where was chuck schumer calling out the president of the united states president of the united states currently president biden who is on woefully fit to serve? is the one who has followed the five ds for the last four years his stat the white house openly covering the left media covering for him. where was the call out?
1:15 am
the hypocrisy that runs to the democrat party is so thick it is laughable. what about rachel? the secretary inside of hhs who doesn't know her own pronoun or see them, the guy who worked in the department of energy who couldn't figure out his own luggage? it or if you want to talk about being unqualified, the heat has set, i'm sorry, pete buttigieg over the department of transportation, the gentleman who truly was a mayor and now transportation? where were the callout on those individuals? it doesn't matter as long as it applies to him because if you are a democrat, you qualify for everything evidently. >> laura: if they thought hegseth would be a pig's dumpling block for trump, they probably would not give him as much trouble at this hearing and they were pathetic and nothing hit pete. they actually think he will do what trump directs him to do with consultation and military experts, but that is what they
1:16 am
are really worried about, correct? >> they are, laura and look at the issue i discussed with pete today, women in combat role. sometimes women in combat role have been in combat as a long time as pilots, mechanics, medics but infantry and special forces, they are irreducible commands. nothing pete hegseth will do to make a machine gun weigh less than 47 pounds or artillery shell less than 100 pounds. racial soldier in combat metal to weight 200 or 300 pounds. they are are irreducible, physical demands. we need a high gender standards for those jobs to make sure all of the troops are safe and ready to fight here to the kept coming back to the issue because they don't care about that. they would rather have social engineering and quotas to meet their desired end state as opposed to having a fit, ready fighting force to defend this nation. >> laura: i think
1:17 am
senator mullin, one thing that most americans do want is an end to these forever wars. there is a big debate still, i guess, kind of in the republican party where people want to shovel money at the pentagon $900 billion and counting on no audit and they were getting on him for an audit today. to most people are like this is not 1984 or 2004, we are out of money we have to smartly budget in every department including the pentagon. >> that is right. what we have to do is refocus and get refocused inside of america and what is our wants and what is their needs? or need is to have a strong military peace through strength. president trump brings that to the white house and we have to have a military able and capable to back that up. that doesn't mean we can throw money at it. we are wasting tremendous amount of money, billions of dollars in the do, and we have to get a handle on it. that is why they fear when you have somebody up like peak to
1:18 am
make pete hegseth who's willing to go in there max because he doesn't come from rank and file and rack and stack and someone else to carry on as usual. he's going to bring change and that is why they also fear elon musk because they will go in there and figure out where the money is going to. we waste so much money and yet, they can't tell us where it is going. it is the only place in the world you can be overbudget behind on delivering on a project that your bed and still get rewarded more and more money to do it. it is absolutely absurd! that doesn't work in the private sector. >> laura: senator cotton, do you believe the pentagon will finally pass an audit? it has failed seven times with hegseth at the home? >> i hope so. pete said today that was a priority of his. as mark twain says, there are certain things to spend money on like software solutions that are readily available and we don't need the military trying to design the systems. there are other things to stop
1:19 am
bad practices like contracts that encourage cost overruns and budget overruns. there is a lot we can do inside the pentagon to eliminate waste and inefficiency and reinvest the money into tools the troops need and for that matter, wore troops. >> laura: the manufacturing policy shouldn't be a giveaway to china under any circumstances shift the focus to china only to enrich on the other side. now that is pay more ohmic priority at this administration. senator, i know you helped prep hegseth and thank you as much. liberal leaders actually be trusted? with what more than $100 billion of your money? next.
