winds calm. good news. relative humidity is quite low and winds could gust to 50 to 60 miles per hour today. wind gusts yesterday, 74 mile per hour, hurricane-force winds. expecting wind gusts later this afternoon. sometimes this morning and then things will die down. not great news for areas burning out of control. fire weather warning for southern california and we still have partly cloudy ds, particularly dangerous situation for next several hours. as we get into friday and weekend, much better forecast but still dealing with elevated fire danger for southern california and where those fires continue to burn. here is your los angeles forecast in next 10 days. spectacular, but my point is, no rain, no foreseeable rain at least in next 10 days and that is not good news, it will set

>> todd: back with a fox news alert. fox news cameras rolling moment search and rescue discovered human remains in a destroyed malibu home. >> carley: that is horrific. griff jenkins joins us from outside that very house. griff. >> griff: grim discovery indeed. we were out here for hours. urban search and rescue teams with dogs and mexican army were out here digging through the rubble. you see in video, they are using rakes and the search is c complicated, they have to lift

stories of debris, some three or four stories high that collapsed on top of each other. the cadaver dogs began to dig deeper. we were able after they located remains, we were able to contact the homeowner who told us she had an elderly woman living with her and when the fires were raging and the evacuation order came she tried to talk the elderly woman to leave, who was a tenant. she would not leave. only 30 minutes after the homeowner departed she learned the house was in flames. the remains are believed to be that elderly woman. we spoke to cal fire sp

try to rebuild. i can't imagine losing a child, much less losing my one last re remembrance of them. can you put into words what is has been like for you? >> it's been like a surreal nightmare. it hasn't sunk in yet, i don't think it will for a long time. >> todd: you did not live in a mansion, you lived in a blue wooden bungalow on the beach. you don't have a bank account where you can write a 15 million dollar check, how are you going to rebuild? >> well, at this moment, we're just taking everyday one day at a time. and we are just very grateful for our friends and family that have come to our rescue.

secretary nominee pete hegseth or republicans day one of his confirmation hearings. take a listen. >> he is manifestly unqualified for virtually any high ranking government position and he demonstrated that frequently today hegseth was well prepared and was clear and recognized there was some concern couldn't handle more than one round of questioning. >> what makes you so awesome? republican senators on the republican senate committee did best to help out trump's pick for defense secretary. they did everything but walk over and hug him, the republicans. >> fox news contributor joe concha joins us now. did the mainstream media see and hear the same hearing that you and i and carley and everybody else saw? >> it was prewritten the reactions beforehand, todd, right? they were going to react that way no matter how pete hegseth had performed yesterday and he performed, i think he crushed it, quite frankly.

this was the theater of the absurd. both from democrats, who were questioning pete, and from the media reaction that we saw yesterday and last evening. i mean, at that hearing, the constant interruptions by democrats, the pious elections, some senators literally screaming at pete. he kept his composure. he was poised. he didn't take the bait. he was confident in himself and steadfast in his admission as the next u.s. defense secretary. that mission is restoring the lethality of our military as a former soldier, cleaning house at the dod. getting rid of these people who are only working their own interest or they are beholden to the defense contractors, companies, instead of the interest of our fighting men and women, this quote stood out, we won world war ii with seven four star general's. today we have 44 four star generals. we don't need more bureaucracy at the top. we need more fighters at the

dbleg what pete said was important i know what i know and i also know what i don't know. oftentimes when you get to a certain level of stature you start to feel like you know everything. that's when you have tunnel vision and make decisions without consulting other people. and he did display a lot of humility during this hearing in the face of all of this incoming fire that he was taking. could the treatment of him backfire on democrats? >> oh, i think it will. if there are any republicans who may have been a little wobbly on this. they saw pete hegseth getting brett kavanaughed yesterday in terms of the personal attacks and bringing up all these stories based on anonymous sources particularly about his time at fox. all i know is that the people that have gone on the record. people like will cain, rachel campos-duffy myself have been on for years.
