family is keeping his memory alive realize the dream to foster unity across the country. joining us now is his son and author of the new book what is my legacy, martin luther king iii. thank you for joining us this morning. >> thank you for the opportunity. >> lawrence: what is the legacy of dr. martin luther king through the eyes of his children? >> i think the legacy is a continuing evolving scenario. my father wanted to bring and build community, to eradicate poverty, racism and violence and when we look at our nation today, the only way we -- i can see that we move forward, it doesn't mean we have to agree on everything but we have to create some semblance of unity. i think the legacy, you know, is large in terms of what the accomplishments can be. there were many accomplishments he and his team made throughout

his life and many more that we as a nation and world must make. >> lawrence: your father had the ability to speak with members of both political parties and yet find common ground. what would he tell our leaders today? >> well, i think he would first say, you know, how do we bring civility back to political landscape? today civility seems to not exist. we used to operate in a civil fashion. i think that climate has to be reemerged. i hope the president, when he comes in, is really working across the aisle. not necessarily again do we have to agree on everything but we at least have to be in constructive dialogue. >> lawrence: what do you miss most about your father? >> you know, i miss just being able to have -- i didn't have the opportunity as a 10-year-old kid to have the opportunity to actually talk to him as an adult. but i miss being able to hug
