talked about by trump. let's watch the president. >> president trump: we're starting off with tremendous investment coming into our country at levels that nobody has really ever seen before. a new american company that will invest $5 hundred billion at least in a.i. infrastructure in the united states and quickly moving creating over 100,000 american jobs almost immediately. >> harris: this is ambitious. it is affecting the markets or not? what are we watching? >> you have the dow up. the nasdaq, more technology heavy, is over 1% higher and on the s&p 500. two sectors out of 11. communication and technology. it has been affecting the markets. you should see the moves in the last 24 hours. all of these things that are off initiatives. not just a.i. the companies that built these

data centers, the companies that powered these data centers. >> harris: is that a lot of jobs? >> a ton of jobs. this morning in south carolina the utility company said they would finish a nuclear power plant. $9 billion put into it. abandoned because the biden administration wouldn't let it come through. those things are coming through. reinvi reinvigorating. these stocks are up huge and a great reflection. we want to own this space. we have to own this space. >> harris: that's what sam altman said. we have to. >> no doubt about it. >> harris: always good to see you. he is so positive until he disagrees with you. americans across most of the country are in the grips of winter and the south is feeling it in an epic way. many people are under watches and warnings now. this has been days of this.

a deadly winter storm hit millions from texas to florida to the carolinas and some of those areas go for years without ever seeing any snow on the ground. so the preparation, you can imagine how hard they have been working up until this point and now they get hit with all this. it's a powerful system causing widespread closures and traffic disruptions and now all of that is compounding because it has been going on for days. fox weather meteorologist is here in houston. >> that effect is still being felt in the lone star state and the gulf coast. several areas that got anywhere from three inches of snow and on going across parts of the southeast today. the big concern now is that the cold air is still sticking around. we saw really cold temperatures this morning across the nation and really across the south

where a lot of our temperatures for the lows into the morning hours were in the 20s or sub freezing. it felt like teens. all of this snow melt across louisiana and moving into parts of mobile, alabama will start to melt and as we go through the overnight hours it will be freezing as well. we saw several inches of snow in these areas. going into the latter half of the week the cold temperatures will likely stick around into that as well. that concern for refreeze in an area like houston is a big concern. we do have folks finally starting to get out and about in these conditions. we had icy conditions earlier in the day. these icy conditions here are now melting as the sun has started to come up and we had warm temperatures -- warming temperatures, temperatures on a warming trend. that will start to melt. heading into tomorrow. issues like that will start to refreeze once again and going into the latter half of the week

known as schedule f. it strips jobs protection for thousands of federal workers. he originally signed it at the end of his first term but president biden overturned it and reversed it. mark meredith is in washington, d.c. mark, i am getting emails and posts on social media from people upset about this. all of a sudden people are like no, you have to save this agent. i was surprised to see that. >> you have a lot of people still trying to understand what this could mean for them. it is a change and change can be scary for some people. before politics president trump made you are fired his catch phrase. now back in office he is making it easier to dismiss federal employees who may try slow down or stop his agenda. he issued that order on monday empowering the administration to reclassify many career federal employees and trump himself explained why he thinks the change is necessary.

legitimacy of hunter biden's laptop. president trump is saying he wants to make sure that people working within the federal government are working together and not necessarily against his administration. >> harris: mark, thank you. bring in "focus" kellyanne conway, former senior counselor to president trump and k.a. consulting president. good to see you. you heard mark's report there. tell me, this is more than just getting rid of those people who might work against the president. this is also trimming the government down. i would imagine. >> it is, harris. this is what america voted for and what president trump and his team are executing on day one and two. the facts. roughly about 4,000 of the 2.2 million federal government workers are political appointees. think about that. so the rest are what we would say in the private sector should be at-will employees. you can be fired for cause and really any reason like the rest of us. 94% of employees in the private

sector are at will between their employee/employer relationship. this just changes that relationship. james shirk and michael regas, two men i worked with in the white house and at america first policy have written about this over the last couple of years. schedule f should allow the president to do what he wants to do. examples in the civil rights division of the department of justice you have had career lawyers refuse to work on matters they say they disagree with politically. that's your job. we had people at epa withholding policy information to our political appointees in the first term we had to read about it in the newspaper. they aren't always truthful to the political appointees when they need to collaborate. this will help change that.

>> harris: helpful to know those numbers as well. i was thinking maybe it was more widespread than that. 4,000 out of 2.2 million workers are political appointees. doesn't every president do this? >> they do. the fact that president trump broke a record yesterday in the 1300 or so hires doesn't mean joe biden, barack obama or the bushes couldn't have done the same. they just didn't. so the fact that he is going with a certain urgency than others, maybe they thought it was not as important. that is not on him. this is what americans voted for. they voted for a government that is less intrusive, invasive, expensive and expansive and it has to start at the root. this is not just deep state and dreamer swamp. this is beyond that. this is not personal to anyone. this affects everyone at the same time. he basically is putting everyone on notice you need to be -- he is saying merit-based the way the supreme court said it. merit-based employment.

show up to work like everybody in the private sector. do your job for fair wages and all this ridiculous lying and screaming headlines and pressure you shared with your audience those are just people afraid. they are afraid not of what might happen by trump but afraid they will be held to account. >> harris: they lose what they think they deserve and where d.e.i. the e stands for equity. that's not what it is about. it's equality. you want to promise opportunities to people. you can't promise them outcomes. if they don't do a job and awful at it, you have to get rid of them or otherwise deficient in those areas. you talked about that breaking a record of hiring. i brought it up. not breaking it in confirmations. it looks like democrats are trying to work against this process. under obama it was day one he had seven cabinet members confirmed and trump had one on the first full day in office yesterday. what do you do with those democrats? >> this is an area where

president trump had more of his cabinet confirmed in 2017 than he does now eight years later. i think some people are dragging their feet. i know some folks are saying they are waiting on paperwork. this is something majority leader thune and the others in charge of the committees have said is their top priority. make sure you are confirming anybody in my administration who has oversight for national security issues. that will be some obvious stuff. the pentagon, secretary of state. marco rubio but also treasury and commerce, also omdi. also cia, agriculture. you name it. our national sovereignty and security is covered by that. economic security, energy security is national security. i hope we can get democrats on board as well. happy to read the reports that. democratic members joining doge committee in the house. that's wonderful.

going, 30 to 40 knots and was instantly paralyzed. i met jack fanning when he invited us to park city, utah, through his foundation. i was able to actually get on the mountain and ski with my family, i can't put into words what that meant. i got paid in the military to do crazy fun stuff. and after my accident, i'm still that same guy. and when i was able to jump out of a perfectly good, helicopter, at 10,000 feet, i did it. i was talking to some vets last week amazing how we have these houses where they can come over because they■re in chairs too. carpet and wheelchairs don't mix very well. tunnel to towers, they got rid of all that. they redid my whole bathroom. that's probably the favorite part of my house. i thought they were just going to do the upgrades. but the surprise to me was they paid off the entire mortgage. when they told me they're going to pay off my mortgage, i cried.

says it started. >> we're concentrating on the worst first. the public safety threats. national security threats. just yesterday in the last 24 hours ice has arrested over 308 serious criminals. ice is doing their job and prioritizing just as the president said they would. ice is perform excellently right now in the field and they'll continue every day. >> harris: one of the first is chicago. governor pritzker says customs and immigration enforcement is going after as many as 2,000 people and there was a planned protest over those deportations. some members of the city council are being pushed to roll back sanctuary city policies. however, the more liberals, that progressive mayor johnson and his allies on the council shot down that effort. garrett tenney is live in chicago. >> it would have allow ed chicago police with ice

involving a violent criminal. the kind of people state and local officials claim they don't want to be here. instead progressives on the city council have spent the past week preparing to fight this expected ice operation by canvassing latino neighborhoods to pass out these flyers telling folks to not open their doors and remain silent if ice agents show up looking for any convicted criminals. >> talking to people. the fear is palpable and vocalized. people on the streets are saying they are scared that ice agents will show up at their door steps, workplaces, places of worship or places going to school. they are scared of that. that's a problem. >> governor pritzker could push for changes in the state sanctuary policies to allow illinois police to cooperate in a limited way but hasn't given any signs saying that he is thinking that.

even saying criminal migrants should be arrested and removed. >> if there are violent criminals convicted of violent crime they are supposed to be deported. that has been the law of the united states for a long time. i don't want them in my state and country if you will commit crimes and undocumented, you don't deserve to stay in this country. >> the said irony is by not helping to remove those folks, democrats here say the folks they are trying to protect, those law-abiding individuals who are here illegally, by not cooperating with ice, more of those very individuals will get picked up by ice while agents are trying to track down those who are the most dangerous. one example during an ice operation in chicago back in 2018, agents arrested 156 migrants. of those, only 74 had criminal convictions. the other half were folks who got caught up and were

collateral arrests. tom homan and others are warning we'll see a lot more of that because of these sanctuary policies. >> harris: just so i'm clear, if they came here illegally they already committed a crime. the 156, 74 had committed crimes in their former countries or this one, but the balance of that was from what you are saying -- that's what i want to get straight. were here illegally anyway. >> here illegally not violent criminals. that's what the administration is focusing on in this initial set of operations. >> harris: that's helpful. gianno caldwell. the last administration ras wass trying to legalize coming over our border in many illegal ways, crawled in, went around security checkpoints. if you got here, it's safe. that's not sovereignty that's an

now there is more legal action, democratic attorneys general are suing across the country, suing president trump over the birthright citizenship executive order. a map showing the lawsuits spread across 22 states. constitutional law professor jonathan turley says he believes this issue could make it to the u.s. supreme court. watch. >> the real value of the executive order is not that it has binding legal effect on anything other than federal agencies. but that it could trigger a long-awaited court fight to bring clarity to this issue. it could ultimately go to the supreme court. >> harris: your reaction. >> well, you know, i think he has a point there. i would never challenge the professor. i think he is excellent in his legal commentary. that would be codified in the supreme court but the facts are we need to focus on americans first. people who built a life here not

people who decided they were pregnant and came across just to have a child within the united states and get those particular protections. that is usurping resources from americans. it is imperative congress comes up with an immigration plan to take care of all these issues. we have been talking about it for decades. things need to come to a change because we have to protect americans first. >> harris: you and i were at events in washington for the inauguration. one in particular where tim scott and byron donalds from florida, congressman and senator tim scott. there is a focus on being able to do the big bipartisan things. what was your take on lawmakers you talked with? >> well, people are excited. there is a lot of enthusiasm and energy around the new administration and i have to be honest that isn't just republicans and conservatives and people who voted for trump. i heard from people who voted

for harris and biden the previous election. people who would never give donald trump the time of day. they are excited. people have been lit everywhere because we've been in a terrible state of affairs for four years, border, crime, inflation, issues that affect every american. they are now thinking we have a guy who is now in office who means business. that's why people are excited and looking forward to four years of donald trump and folks who didn't vote for him, many are looking to give him a chance. >> harris: thank you, good to see you. >> thank you for having me. >> harris: many expected a traditional prayer service. wouldn't you? it is the national prayer service. not so much. president trump and vance taking office turned into a lecture to them and the rest of the country. a hard left twist at the prayer

>> harris: it looks like president trump will soon get his first legislative victory. passing the laken riley act. it's named after laken riley of georgia university, a nursing student there murdered last year by an illegal imbruglia im -- immigrant. 12 senate democrats voted in favor of the bill. it will land on the president's desk if it passes the house the second time with the revision. it is expected to. that will be huge. we may be seeing a trend among democrats that could be a big headache for chuck schumer. legislative support from red state democrats could create a potential opening for senate republicans to pass their agenda items.
