charlie: a jet with a child, her mom and a doctor inside crashed into the ground. rachel: nate foy is live with more. nate, good morning. reporter: hey, guys, good morning. just a tragedy that investigators are working hard to understand this morning, and it's all hands on deck with federal authorities, ntsb and faa leading the investigation, but also with state and local authorities as well with governor josh shapiro coming immediately after the crash and speaking last night. you mentioned six people at least were killed. those were the people on board the medical jet. we'll tell you more about them momentarily. what remains unknown is how many
3:03 am
people were hurt or killed on the ground because this jet came down hard and fast in a crowded area. take a look at the video. the entire flight lasted less than a minute and just struck the ground as if it was a rocket coming out of the sky. it incinerated homes because there was a massive explosion and cars on fire, homes on fire about three to four city blocks according to local fire fighters so they had quite -- just a horrible situation to respond to. we're learning how sad this is and why the plane was flying. take a look at statement from shriner's children's hospital. shriner's children is heart broken to confirm one of our pediatric patients and the child's mother on board the jet air ambulance that crashed this evening. the patient received care from shriner's childrens philadelphia and being transported back to her home country in mexico on a

contracted air ambulance when the crash happened because of patient privacy concerns, we cannot say anymore about the patient and her family at this time. fire fighters confirm they pulled some people out of homes that were on fire. this was just an absolute crisis after the massive explosion that looked like a bomb went off in northeast philadelphia. take a look at flight path here and the plane took off from northeast philadelphia airport. i mentioned the entire flight was under a minute. how close by it went down. and take a look at where it went down. this is near the roosevelt mall and was very bad and could have been even worse because it came down just outside the mall, this is a very populated area, and i mentioned all the row homes in northeast philadelphia that were badly damaged as a result of it as well as people who were just

driving in the area and happened to be affected as well. first responders painting a really grim scene as we're still waiting to actually learn more details about how many people were hurt or killed on the ground or jet. governor shapiro coming here shortly after. here's what he had to say. >> what you're seeing here is a unified response to an awful aviation disaster. as awful as that aviation disaster was, tonight we also saw the best of philly. we saw neighbor helping neighbor. we saw pennsylvaniaens looking out for one another. reporter: take a look at this next video showing an oxygen tank on board the medical jet. it was found a quarter of a mile away from the crash site so that gives you an idea of the power of this explosion and how far

the debris has been found. take a look at next video with a boarded up restaurant and somebody that was eating nearby and a small piece of shrapnell went through the -- shrapnel went through the window and hit that pedestrian while they were eating. that's an example of someone injured and unfortunately i'm sure there'll be several stories of people that were more injured and at this point, you hope for the best. investigators have shutoff the road just to our right. you can see part of the emergency response behind me right now. we are hearing that local officials may give an update today. we don't know exactly what time that might come. there was some talk about 8:00 a.m. news conference. now it appears that is not solidified. so we are continuing to try and learn as much information as we possibly can as investigators

continue to comb the crash site, what's really difficult specifically with this crash is this plane went down so fast and so hard. it was such a large explosion that there's not going to be a whole lot of this plane that remains in tact or even fragments because of the massive inferno that resulted from the blast when it struck the ground. back to you. rachel: nate, the six known fatalities are from the airplane as you said was in a fire ball and exploded. i saw footage on mine of a man coming out of the flames. he looked like he survived. lawler you're seeing, did it hit homes directly? is there a chance we might see no other fatalities and just injuries or based on what you're seeing, just that we don't know yet but there's going to be fatalities on the ground. reporter: we don't know yet and that's obviously something,
3:08 am
rachel, you don't want to proclaim before you know. i can tell you when first responders showed up, they described the scene as really grim and people severely injured and worse. what's unknown is if there's some way that, you know, what that first responder saw was someone on the jet, it's difficult to say at this point. i can tell you that between three and four blocks of row homes were at least fully or partially for a period of time on fire and fire fighters were pulling people out of homes. the good news is that we know that they were successful in many of those efforts and they were able to pull people out. you know, this is a good time for prayers and hopefully the casualty number is smaller than what it looks like it could possibly be seeing that terrifying video.

investigators will try to do to see when and where something went wrong. joey: you showed that oxygen tank a quarter or half mile away. the debris field is pretty big and what are they telling people? waking up and watching coverage and find something in their yard or on their street? reporter: joey, that's a good point and a challenge for investigators right now. the blast was so big and mentioned oxygen tank and other debris far from the impact site and there's a big perimeter right now where there's a lot of evidence scattered all overt place, and one thing that we did hear from the mayor of philadelphia and other officials, they're advising people not to touch anything that could possibly be evidence. right now i mentioned that authorities have blocked off the road to our right and this is as close as we can get to the crash site right now. it was raining yesterday and happened at night and authorities as the sun comes up
