we had ellie cohanim on earlier and from the independent women's forum and worked under president trump and what she said alaska the hostage release. >> this is great news and for the region what this means is that president trump has come in and within 12 days of coming into office and he's managed to stabilize an escalating situation and we have a ceasefire in gaza and a ceasefire in lebanon and hostages getting released and all of this is good progress in a very difficult, delicate situation and very much because of president trump's hands on leadership, his presidential envoy steve witkoff is conducting shuttle diplomacy and gone to gaza and first american official in gaza in 15 years and what we're seeing right now is that the president is thinking out of the box and coming up

with suggestions that will actually lead to peace in the region and not get stuck on avenues that did not work in the past. joey: i felt like the conversation of her ended on the idea of what that looks like after this is over, whatever over means. the war, hostages or whatever over means. she brought up the abraham accords and the question is not just is there a two state solution, what is the relationship with the neighbors after this? rachel: yeah, it's a really interesting point and meeting with benjamin netanyahu and going for them taking office and it'll be interested as well and screaming to the negotiation and didn't really want this donald trump committed to peace and finding a long term solution and not just because he wants that
4:13 am
region to have peace but wants america to focus on america. that's america first. earlier we were talking about, charlie, if not for the plane crashes, these tragic plane crashing this week, number one story we'd be talking about would be tariffs that donald trump says he's imposing on canada and mexico. it would be 25% tariff on goods from those two countries. 10% tariff on goods from china and they are set to take effect. i spoke with phila phil flynn, n oil trader and all the action in the business. what he had to say. >> the good news is the u.s. produce as lot of oil and canadian and mexican oil is preferred, it's not as bad. gasoline prices going up 10% and more concerned about diesel going up 30% but you have to
4:14 am
offset that just a little bit with the fact that less regulation is s a growing economy is going to offset those costs and it's not necessarily inflationary even if prices go up if the economy does better and i don't think the average american is going to feel it too bad. charlie: interesting point. charlie: yeah, he thought it was interesting and diesel prices going up 30% and if they go up 30%, cost of everything goes up 30% because everything depends on diesel fuel. i was interested in his bullishness on the fact that the benefits to the rest of the economy would offset that. charlie: he also, joey, talked about benefits just in general and offset with the oil industry going to be more deregulated and more production and the chicago will get better and he's just saying it's untenable to have

this unfair trade we currently have with the countries and it's on a number of levels. joey: in the business of politics and even talking about it passionately, some point you're going to be called or feel like a hypocrite. one thing yesterday i'm saying something different today. reason why i point that out is i've been as critical of the biden admin vagues as anyone on the price of fuel. in my community, it isn't just felt going to the grocery store, it's felt in every part of life. we look at this and say why did biden jack up oil prices? he did it because he cut production and made it harder to produce an export and did it because they told us our planet would die if we didn't. we have a very marginal if any impact whatsoever on the planet living 10 million more years and 10 million and one more years and hurting every person every day and if i look at what president trump was doing and saying it raises the price for fuel and why is he doing it?
4:16 am
doing it because fentanyl is coming across the border and doing it for the successful economy to cheap fuel and more prosperous country is to even out the playing field on how we trade. i look at two goals with perhaps short term effect and don't think i'm being a hypocrite and i'm willing to give president trump time to show that these tariffs work for the calls and goals he's looking for. rachel: i mean, charlie and i were on "fox & friends" on friday talking about the relationship the united states has with mexico and how critical that relationship is, how much it suffered under, in particular this president. there was a lot more comradery and communication between obrador and trump. sheinbaum is -- they're both
4:17 am
commis but sheinbaum is a unique one and this is beyond the tariffs and beyond all this. he's sending a message to mexico in particular that you're turning into a narco state, you're causing us a lot of problems, and i'm not having it. charlie: and it's a bit reminiscent of the abraham accords where something that's willing to think completely outside of the box and come up with real solutions that don't just have to do with trade. does have to do with much bigger issues like life and death issues because fentanyl coming across the other end and millions of illegals coming across the border. use the tariffs to solve a problem like that, that's a win all the way around. rachel: absolutely. turning to headlines and palisades and eaton fire is about 100% contained and fire officials making announcement more than three weeks after deadly wild fires broke out and a total of 29 people killed in the fires and over 16,000 people
