businesses at each end could have a choke point and cripple the u.s. economy. and one of those chinese owned ports is behind me and president trump has gone further and he says that china controls the canal and he says that panama will not get away with this. so we have the unusual diplomatic situation right now, two long-time allies in a high pressure situation where all options, including a military option, are still on the table. marco rubio certainly has his work cut out for him this weekend. david, back to you. david: steve harrigan, wonderful reporting from panamament appreciate it. that will do it from here. i'm david asman. thank you so much for watching. coverage of the tragic air disaster continues now with griff jenkins on fox news live. griff. griff: six people on board a medical transport jet that crashed in philadelphia have been killed. the dead include a child who is

receiving treatment at a philadelphia hospital and her mother. all on board were from mexico. philadelphia's mayor moments ago saying one additional person in a car was killed in a crash and 19 others have been injured. welcome to fox news live, i'm griff jenkins. for the latest from philadelphia, let's go right to nate foy. what can you tell us, nate? >> griff, so the main takeaway is what you just said. we have new numbers of how many people have been killed. we know prior to the news conference of the six people, the six mexican nationals who died on board that jet. what we just found out about was the seventh person who was killed inside their car and 19 others injured as the jet struck the ground there was a large fire, a lot of cars were incinerated, homes caught on fire. it unknown at this point exactly how many people were injured or killed inside their
9:02 am
cars versus homes that something that is going to develop, officially told us, in the coming days. listen to this. >> we have a lot of unknowns about who was where on the streets of this neighborhood last night at the time of impact. so, it will likely be days or more until we are able to definitively answer the question about the number of folks who perished in this tragedy. >> so the n.t.s.b., f.a.a., a.t.f., state and locals are investigating the areas of impact where the jet struck the ground right outside a mall, it's between four and six blocks, but officials say they're still working to understand the scope of this after the plane hit the ground like a rocket at 6:30 last night. take a look at what it looked like for the people in the
9:03 am
are area. [screams] >> the federal investigators right now, griff, are working to find out if this was a pilot error or something wrong with the plane or the engine. we do know that it took off from northeast philadelphia airport and something went wrong almost immediately because the plane was in the air for a minute, and coming down in a crowded area, and the jet fuel hit the homes and made the fire worse. we understand there were five different fires as a result of this plane crash, all of them have been extinguished and we also heard from witnesses that a piece of debris flew through the window of a restaurant and hit somebody inside that restaurant and then we also saw
9:04 am
pictures of an oxygen tank that was on board the jet about a quarter of a mile away from the crash site and that's something that officials just talked about. that they are urging people here in philadelphia to let them know if they find any debris. it's quite a big perimeter at this point, but they still haven't totally secured that perimeter as they are continuing to ask people to let them know if they see any debris after that explosion. we do know that transportation secretary sean duffy has received an update from the n.t.s.b. and governor shapiro praised the interagency cooperation so it's all hands on deck right now sort of in the longer term to figure out exactly what went wrong on na plane and anyone who need to communicate with us, and to you the american people, how many people have been injured or
9:05 am
killed. griff: quite a wide and dangerous debris field. nate, we'll check with you for more. thank you. let's bring in a part of the u.s. helicopter safety team, chris bauer. and you heard nate's report and we have a sound bite from philadelphia's mayor cherelle parker. here is what she said a few minutes ago. >> it was only afloat for a short period of time before something went terribly wrong and it crashed. griff: so, chris, obviously, shortly after takeoff and nate said it was less than a minute that this lear jet 55 crashed. what are your initial reactions to in? what do you suppose may have led to the trouble they got into in very short order? >> thanks for having me, what a tragedy. and my thoughts and prayers are with the families and the victims of this disaster. looking at the data, the
9:06 am
granular data of the plane achieved all the stewed initially 650 feet off the ground, stopped, seemed to have leveled off and it started to descent. what's interesting about the speed of the airport, it doesn't increase as precipitously as the rate of desent. so at one point it began to descend 2500 feet a minute and then that looks like it sort of leveled a little bit and wound up descending over 11,000 feet a minute. griff: wow. >> a descent like that is horrific. even to be inside of an aircraft that's descending at that speed would be incapacity in terms of the g-forces. >> we're showing on your screen
9:07 am
now for viewers if you play that one more time. we slowed the descent down because i knew you would have such good insight. this is a slowed down version of the descent which you said 11,000 feet, you can see it coming just to the left of your screen there, it will come into frame here in just a moment, but even at that precipitous rate of the descent that it's coming down, what are the usual causes for something like that to happen? is it engine failure? is it pilot error? >> well, again, i don't want to speculate. i'll leave that, the investigation up to the n.t.s.b. and the responsible authorities. what i would offer is in previous accidents what might have caused this. so, one clue, and it was pointed out earlier in the broadcast when the pilots departed they missed the radio calls and the tower was trying to raise them on the frequency
9:08 am
and they didn't respond and that is indicative of a crew that may be completely saturated with an emergency or incapacitated. incapacitation could happen, hypoxia, but the aircraft is not that high of an altitude so i wouldn't look there that hard. another clue is looking at the rate of descent if the aircraft was in a high speed stall or perhaps, an uncommanded deployment of a thrust reverser, and a lot of these aircraft have had issues in the past with uncommanded thrust reverser deployment. griff: well, we shall see where it goes, as we know from all n.t.s.b. investigations, they look at three things, the human aspect, the machine aspect, the environment aspect. before i let you go, i want your insight because you have experience, extended experience flying blackhawks or the air force's version, the payhawk,
9:09 am
same bird. what do you make of what happened wednesday shortly before 9:00 here in washington? >> what a tragedy, again. and i would just wanted to say as the co-chair of the u.s. helicopter safety team, we also want to lend our support and assistance to make sure this doesn't happen again. we're also offering our pure pilots support program to the helicopter first responders on the scene and i can understand firsthand what they are probably going through as well. the pavehawk, the blackhawk, different variants of it, what a tank of an aircraft. i had the opportunity-- i flew the longest helicopter rescue in history, pavehawk, and flew it into a winter hurricane that took out a 450 foot freighter. that aircraft is about as close to being indestructible in terms of reliability and dependable for the operation.
9:10 am
i think systematically though there's issues with having this route that the crew was flying, the training that they were conducting, aircraft on dissimilar frequencies, so, you don't have everybody communicating with each other where they could be made aware of each other. i think ostensibly everybody was doing what they were supposed to do, but the system itself has a lot of faults in it that can lead you down this path. griff: well, we shall see where the investigation goes and of course, transportation secretary duffy has restricted helicopter flights within the commercial air space around reagan international airport. he did that yesterday afternoon in consultation with the president, but we'll see where this all takes us. chris bauer, the u.s. helicopter safety team. thank you very much for taking time. >> thank you for having me today, bye-bye. griff: speaking of the black boxes have been recovered from the airplane and the helicopter that crashed into the potomac
9:11 am
river in washington d.c. on wednesday, this as new details on the investigation emerge and recovery efforts continue. grady is live from reagan international airport with the latest. >> thanks to the black boxes they'll be able to hear the conversations inside that plane cockpit and inside the helicopter in the moments leading up to the mork collision. and they'll look at flight data on the helicopter and plane, and particularly the helicopter, there have been reports, and president trump stated the helicopter was flying too high and they could tell that with the black boxes and could be a key piece of information, but it's one of many. other pieces of investigation include the debris they're working on recovering from the potomac river. the n.t.s.b. is working on that right now, bringing in barges to help with the process, and then they'll be able to
9:12 am
reconstruct the two aircraft to see if that gives them any clues as to what went wrong. the n.t.s.b. started inviewing the air traffic controllers who were working at the time of the crash. >> what i can say is in this incident, it should not have happened. if something fails, a backup should catch it. multiple layers of redundancy. it's been a long time. >> and n.t.s.b. is not responding to comments of dei hiring of air traffic controllers during the biden administration played a role in this cash, but senator markwayne mullen says that trump is right that dei hiring impacted the training hub in his state of oklahoma. >> i can tell you we're having a hard time filling the classes because of dei. instead of the classes 100% full we were at 80, 70%, it
9:13 am
wasn't for a lack of individuals applying for it except each class had a ratio they had to have on it. >> as the n.t.s.b. investigates, d.c. fire is still working to remove bodies from the potomac river. 41 bodies have been recovered so far, 26 remain, and the n.t.s.b. says more than 100 family members who lost loved ones in the mid air collision have come here to d.c. they've been receiving briefings over the past couple of days and the agency says, griff, that it's paramount that they provide them with factual information as they get more details into what went wrong, griff. griff: they seem to have been doing that. i will say, as a reporter that's been with you for the past two days, todd inman, the member of the n.t.s.b. is quite a good communicator in engaging with us to give us details. one quick follow-up, one thing that todd inman told us yesterday we can expect at some point today to see barges arriving from virginia beach to
9:14 am
assist with cranes to lift the fuselages out of the river which they believe there may be bodies or remains in there, a key important thing that a lot of families maybe counting on. have you seen any indication that the barges are arriving yet? >> yeah, exactly right. we haven't seen the barges from this vantage point here from the airport outside this window and we have a couple of live shots that show you the location and haven't seen them there either, but certainly something to keep an eye on as that will be critical for d.c. fire's efforts to remove the remaining bodies from the potomac, but it's critical for the n.t.s.b., another thing that todd inman said at the press conference yesterday, they actually brought in an almost identical crj jet when they remove the pieces of debris from the river, they can essentially replace together this aircraft using the similar aircraft as a reference point so they can essentially reenact
9:15 am
the cockpit of that aircraft once they remove it all from the water. so, it's going to be critical to remove it for both n.t.s.b. investigators and d.c. fire recovery divers. griff: an important aspect there you raise. grady, live, thank you. three more hostages have been released under the cease-fire deal between israel and hamas, they include an american citizen as well as the father of one of the youngest hostages in captivity. trey yingst joining us with the details. >> good afternoon. >> another hostage release with three additional people coming home. american citizen keith siegel was released himself from the port in gaza city. we know that he was taken with his wife and she was released
9:16 am
during the first cease-fire and reacted saying this. >> until now, keith was captive, but now, the nightmare is over and keith is free. so, i want to thank president trump for his work to get these hostages released and back home to their loved ones, but there's more work to do and we're going to continue that w work. >> another man, ofer calderon was released along with yarden bibas. he was taken with his family and they have not been seen. if the hostages were paraded through a crowd again, we do know they were exchanged again for 183 palestinian prisoners being freed. we do expect is similar release to take place on saturday where additional three or four israeli hostages will be freed.

looking to end the quote, weaponization and returning integrity, accountability. democrats are calling the terminations and ousting as a purge. and kash patel said this about firing at the agency. >> are you aware of any plans or discussions to punish in any way, including termination, fbi agents or personnel associated with trump investigations, yes or no. >> i'm not aware. >> thank you. >> and the fbi says dismissing potentially hundreds of agents would severely weaken the country from national security and criminal threats and settings up the new bureau and its leadership for failure. fox has been told many employees are planning to sue as they believe they're being dismissed without cause.

griff: and they're doing it before patel is confirmed, he has that to stand on. thank you very much. >> you've got it. griff: for more on the massive fbi shake-up. bring in fox tuesday contributor, and nicole parker. i imagine your phone must be blowing up from your former fbi colleagues? >> yes, griff, that's correct. and i have stood true. i was a rank and file agency at the fbi. i have clearly distinguish between fbi one, the good, solid, hardworking fbi agents that want to get the job done and keep their heads low and nothing political. and fbi two, individuals often in high level positions and executives who use their law enforcement power to push their political and social agendas and frankly, fbi two sadly intril infiltrated all the way

down. but i want to tell you there are fbi employees that do the right thing, and they're on edge, hey, if you even touch january 6th you're on the list. i feel strongly in my sole that that list will be looked at and those just doing the honest hard work, i believe, that, you know, the right thing will prevail in the end and i believe that those that had the intent to maliciously go after their political opponents, i believe that they will be held accountable. again, we're talking thousands of people that probably touched january 6th. this investigation was the number one priority of this last administration for four years. but again, if there were individuals that may have done, you know, a simple interview or a simple search warrant, that's very, very different than those that were salivating at the chance to go after trump, his supporters and again, it does not matter where you stand on the political spectrum, this is not about your political persuasion, this is about using your law enforcement power, gun and badge and doing the right thing and upholding the constitution in a fair and

unbiased manner. griff: well, and the politicalization of the fbi that you talk about, nicole, that, senator john kennedy brought that up in kash patel's hearing. here is what he said, listen. >> for better or worse, either in reality or perception, in modern times the fbi has been politicized. it started with mr. james comey. and so did peter strock. and so did lisa page. and so did michael sussman. so did attorney general garland. it's got to end now, clean it out, but lift it up in accordance with due process and the rule of law. griff: do you agree with that, nicole? >> i 100% agree with cincinnati

kenn senator kennedy. and i noticed the weaponization when james comey came out and said no reasonable prosecutor would charge hillary clinton, and was out of his lane and a prosecutorial discussion and operation hurricane after that. fbi one,ed good, fine men and women of the fbi are disgusted by the politicalization of the fbi and they want to make sure those negatively impacting the fbi are held accountable, but those doing the honest good work, they need to continue to stay in place, do the right thing, hold the line and keep americans safe. we are at a time when, you know, foreign terrorist organizations groups and violent crimes, threats are at an all-time high we need the solid fbi employees and agents to stay put and keep doing the job. i know it's a tumultuous time

there, the good people you know who you are, america supports you, keep doing. those not doing the right thing should be held accountable. griff: we leave it there, nicole parker, thank you as always. >> thank you. griff: much more ahead. fox news live continues. stay with us.
