so the second hour of the "fox & friends" starts right now. >> brian: we have a fox news alert. ppete hegseth make firsttrip ase traveling to fort bliss to the southern border saying in a quote on x potus wants 100 percent operational control of the border and we will deliver border security because it's national security. >> ainsley: we have already seen results from the trump administration's deportation push. nearly 8,000 arrests and over 55500 detainers have been logged by ice just during the first two weeks in office. incredible. >> steve: pete hegseth is set to be joining joint task force north as it's referred to today, which is headquartered at fort bliss in texas and has been providing support to the border mission so far. so, let's check in with lawrence jones. he's not on the couch today. he's amid the bashe barbed wires

the keys to air force one. >> lawrence: you are not seeing any crossings here really because they have control of the border. yesterday we kind of covered the depadepartment of homeland secuy aspect. that's border patrol. that's all those assets that you see in the sky as well. later today, of course we'll have pete hegseth the secretary of defense here. the defense mechanism is going to be huge, especially going after those narcoterrorists as well that the president has ruled them. bringing those drugs across the border easy way or hard way. all they have to do is turn the over. ice doesn't have to get in the stack and go out there and go on high value warrants that they have been going on all across the country a lot of democrats don't want to do that the secretary of homeland security

progress if you are not talking. it doesn't mean we accept them or like them or agree with them but talking is never a bad thing. >> lawrence: so, guys, there's been all this talk about, you know, president trump said that he was going to focus on the criminals in the first phase. some of the people that they have been grabbing up haven't necessarily been criminals. because they were with the criminal aliens and ice is saying look, if ice has a detainer and deportation owner and criminal. we are not going to waste resources we will grab them up. easy solution to this. if democrats that are in these governor's offices and mayors offices would just leave them in custody. let ice come pick them up, you wouldn't have to go through. this they are resisting, guys. >> brian: 58% of the country for mass deportation got elected. now they are rolling up criminals. really no counter to the criminals. the only people that should be upset about being arrested are the criminals themselves. and those idiots out in los

angeles who thought it would be a great idea to show up with their national flags and block the 101 freeway yesterday is counter to what the average american thinks that might have been a different story in 2016 and 2020. but it's not in 2024 because of the idiotic policies of the previous administration democrats even acknowledge, lawrence. >> lawrence: the question is what talking point do they want? are people living in fear or are they going to be out in the street and protest? it can't be both. the narrative they are pushing across the country is that people can't go to work. that they're picking up abuela and everybody -- american citizens feel like they are going to be deported. we saw differently in the middle of the street not just in los angeles but this has been happening all across the country over the weekend. >> ainsley: that's why trump is slapping tariffs on canada and mexico. he doesn't want the fentanyl here. killing our children. he is not wrong on that. james comer sent a letter to mayor adams and also the mayor of boston, chicago, and denver.

he wants them to come to congress and talk to them about sanctuary cities and how they hinder law enforcement. they aren't able to go in and arrest these criminals. and the mayor, our mayor here in new york as you were talking to kristi noem, lawrence, he has said he is willing to work with federal agencies. he knows that there is a problem at the border. >> lawrence: he has a city council though that they are being resistant. the mayor is talking about maybe, perhaps, using executive orders to be able to get some of this stuff done. just so they know. when they are resisting, they are empowering the criminal cartel. i see them on the run now guys, their money, their infrastructure has been totally disseminated within this first two weeks. and so they are regrowng right now. but you want to get them while they are on their heels. and what they are doing is regroup and go to different destinations they're empowering the people that cross this

border. >> steve: we had kristi noem on the couch. actually we spoke to her via satellite last week where she talked a little bit about how they were going to end the temporary protected status for venezuelans. about 350,000 venezuelans impacted. over the weekend, the news broke that apparently the trump administration has done a deal with maduro where maduro will take back venezuelans. >> ainsley: including the gang members. >> steve: including tren de aragua. you got to figure if you are in and this is to your point. one of the criminal elements, ticketly a cartel, maybe rather than get swept up and thrown back into a jet and go back to venezuela, maybe you leave on your own so you can at least have a little control over your life. it's a great point. we tant talk about the last administration was not talking at all with maduro.

the fact they were able to get him to cave within two weeks. massive and get hostages as well. i think another point that you're going to hear further and we will obviously be talking with pete hegseth about this. in the prior administration. during donald trump's first term. he wanted to go after some of these narco terrorists, the people bringing the drugs across the border. but you have some generals that were resistant of that. now you have a secretary of defense. you are going to see operation from the military. going after these drug cartels in foreign countries. that is going to be huge. that's going to save a lot of american lives as well. when the cartel doesn't have product. when they don't have leadership. american lives are saved as a result of that. >> brian: right. lawrence, i can't wait to see your interview with the secretary of homeland security kristi noem that's coming up later and hopefully catch up with pete hegseth later today. check back in with you. >> ainsley: great interview on the horse, lawrence. not easy to do. >> steve: giddy up.

el salvador. incredible. >> ainsley: president trump is expected to speak with mexico and canadian losers today ahead of tariffs taking full effect at midnight. north american allies are now vowing to strike back. >> brian: jacqui heinrich joins us now with the latest. jacqui? >> jacqui: good morning to you guys. all together, mexico, canada and china account for more than 40% of imports into the u.s. but, unless president trump changes his mind, which he says that he won't, tomorrow he'll be imposing a 25% tariff on all goods from canada and mexico. 10% on canadian energy. and 10% on all goods from china. trump says he's fulfilling a campaign promise to respond to illegal immigration and drug trafficking. listen. >> we may have short-term some little pain and people understand that but, long term, the united states has been ripped off by virtually every country in the world. we have deficits with almost

every country. not every country but almost. and we are going to change it. it's been unfair. >> jacqui: the white house accused mexico's government of having a quote intolerable alliance with mexican drug cartels. sheinbaum called the allegations slander and called on president trump to clamp down on the flow of guns from the u.s. that come down and arm the cartels. she is set to speak with the president this morning. mexico is expected to announce retaliatory tariffs today. outgoing canadian prime minister justin trudeau is also set to speak with president trump today. he has already set a 25% retaliatory tariff on $107 billion worth of u.s. goods from cosmetics to lumber to plastics. if china has said it opposes the tariffs, but china is not yet announced any response. >> you want tariffs to go away in mexico and china. stop poisoning americans. stop sending fentanyl into america to kill americans. if you want to have a better relationship, mexico with the united states, do your part on the other side of the border.

to our friends in canada -- >> senate minority leader chuck schumer said that we could see price increases on a lot of the everyday goods, including some super bowl favorites that he highlighted. including guacamole and corona. the president does admit there could be some short-term pain for americans but he says that it will all be worth it in the end. he also said u.s. will definitely be placing tariffs on the european union. he cited a $300 billion trade deficit there. the eu has said that it would respond firmly to such an action by the u.s. and called tariffs harmful on all sides. guys. >> steve: and jacqui, speaking of a little pain, right now there is a little pain down in the corner of wall and broad because i see that the stock market futures are down about 600, a little shy of 600. you know, these tariffs are supposed to go into effect at midnight. tariff tuesday we will call it. but, the president our president

going to speak to the people who run canada and mexico today therthere's a possibility he cod get some sort of a deal. supposed to go into effect at midnight. let's make a deal right now and crisis averted. what are the chance of that. >> anything is possible. we saw a very short lived threat of a trade war with colombia when they were blocking the flights with deportees from coming into the country and ended up offering up the presidential plane to bring them home. so anything is possible,s of course. whthe president has been asked this question what it would take if it's possible he could change his mind. he says no you got to take him at his worked. of course we will watch it play out and watch wall street also react. guys. >> steve: anything is possible. thank you so much. what has happened in the past when we put tariffs on china, our deficit went from 420 billion to 270 billion.

when mexico, when we left when trump left office, we had a -- the trump deficit with mexico was 89 billion. now it's 135 billion. so he is saying what is going on here in the usmca is being abused. a lot of the china companies are buying up manufacturing plants from mexico, leaving the mexican name on it and taking advantage of it. he thinks that's not what the spirit of the usmca for north america. we will see what happens. if there is going to be a last-minute reprieve today. >> ainsley: the goal of the president is just to get them to do something about their borders. he doesn't want fentanyl coming across. so you are right. maybe he will strike a deal today. >> steve: maybe. >> ainsley: we will help you and provide whatever it is on the border to make sure to keep america safe. the energy portion of this will be taxed at 10%. so he is slapping tariffs. >> steve: from canada. >> ainsley: 25% on all imports from mexico and canada. 10% from all imports from china. but, 10% for the oil. we do rely on canada's oil. we get $92.5 billion worth of

oil and gas. at least that's how much was imported last year in 2023 or two years ago. and then that's 53% of america's petroleum. >> steve: so you got, you know, have you heard about tariffs and ultimately they could impact all of our wallets. donald trump ran on i'm going to cut costs. you know, people would be disappointed if the cost of energy goes up or the cost of food goats up. so let's see what happens. worst case scenario, according to the tax policy center, estimates for the average household, after tax income would fall about 1 percent or $1,000 in 2026. if the tariffs take effect. but, knowing donald trump and knowing the fact that he has got two world leaders on the phone today, i bet he is going to make some sort of a deal. look, i told you 25%. if you do this, we'll make it 10. look for some monty hall. >> ainsley: he said it is going to hurt in the beginning but it

will allow american companies to produce more, avo avocados, they grow them in california. tequila countries mexico. maybe a company that can produce it here. >> brian: keep mexican worms in mexico. we will use our own worms. here is secretary of energy as of friday, doug burgum talking about how this all lines up with his agenda. >> it's an incentive for americans to say let's get going on producing energy here. but you saw the lower tariff on canadian energy. this reflects president trump thoughtfully considering the impacts on american but still putting pressure on those related to the border. i mean, this isn't a trade war with canada or mexico or china. this is about fentanyl. i mean, would very had mass invasion of our country. we have been taking mass casualties. we lose almost 300 people a day to overdose deaths in this country. that's a tragedy. president trump wants it to end. this is an economic developer's dream as a state, if you said wow, we are going to tariff

foreign products and have no tariffs at home. we are going to lower energy prices at home. we are going to bring manufacturing and jobs back. if you are trying to attract foreign investment in this country, there has never been a better time to do it than right now. >> brian: is he chairman of energy dominance, too. he has two titles. interior and dominance along with our secretary of energy who has not been confirmed yet. meanwhile, if you are looking for marco rubio. should have checked panama. looking for him today check el salvador. man that closing the darien gap and fun two kicking china out of both ends of the panama canal. i think he has a deal. >> ainsley: agreed to not renew the contract. that's end key development they have ports on both sides. you know this panel connects the pacific with the caribbean. china has ports on either end. >> steve: right. so does the united states. so, after he met with the leaders over at the panama canal, where they are all

the inauguration. he has done a phenomenal job a template for the other south american countries. gangsters put them in prison at one time and used the army to do it. meanwhile today the army corps of engineers expecting to be lifting operations to wreckage from the river after last week's mid-air collision. >> steve: madeleine rivera, it's key to lifting a fuselage and other parts of the plane out because there are still people who are missing. >> madeleine: yeah. exactly. you guys. here is exactly how it's going to play out. so the u.s. army corps of engineers said they were going to start lifting as daylight comes. be back at the site right now because it is daylight. what they will do is pick up pieces from the debris of the water and bring it into a water where those pieces will be investigated. like you said, steve, it is a sensitive process because they have to take into account the possibility of finding more bodies. so case in point, over the weekend while crews were doing

salvage work they recovered about a dozen more bodies that puts the current tally of victims who have been identified at 55. on sunday, some families of the victims visited the site for a private memorial coordinated by the ntsb. they have been getting regular briefings as the investigation unfolds. there are outstanding questions about the helicopter's altitude. data from the regional jet's flight recorder show the plane was at around 325 feet at the time of the crash. air traffic control data shows the helicopter at 200 feet. investigators are hoping to reconcile that discrepancy. they also say moments before the impact regional jet had a slight increase in pitch but it's not clear if the pilot was doing an evasive move to avoid the crash. separately on saturday the notice to air mission system went down. >> this is a crucial warning system that pilots use to get information close runways or airspace restrictions. here is transportation secretary sean duffy addressing this several hours long outage. >> the backup system is now up

cease-fire this after president trump says that discussions in the middle east have been advancing. netanyahu will be the first major foreign leader to visit trump -- to visit in trump's second term. another scary incident for airplane passengers after united flight from houston to new york was evacuated on the runway after the plane wing caught fire during takeoff. the faa says the crew halted the takeoff while still on that runway after reporting an engine issue. passengers on the plane were bused back to the terminal. thankfully, no injuries were reported. not something you want to see. my goodness. in canada, fans at last night's toronto raptors game loudly booed the u.s. national anthem before tipoff. seeming to respond to president trump's tariffs. ♪ o say can you see. >> lawrence: seeing a difference in the morale already. smiles ons. >> yeah. they tell me that. they are happier because they get to do their job. can you imagine signing up to be in the border patrol and being assigned to process and help people come into this country illegally. that's what they have been doing. now they are back at their duty stations. they are enforcing the law. they are thrilled. so, listen, we need more help. more people want to join the border patrol. want to join ice, be a part of homeland security. literally the mission of the agency is to keep america safe and to do so with honor and integrity. and that's what we're going to do every day. >> lawrence: today you also deputized the texas national guard as well, right? >> yes. >> lawrence: why is that important? >> now the national guard members that are down here they have full authority. before i think they felt like they were facilitating the illegal immigration because they didn't have the authority to arrest and detain those that were breaking the law. now they are fully deputized. go out there and get the bad guys and make sure that they are prosecuting them.

>> i'm glad i got finish on the good note. >> lawrence: some of the highlight was talking with those gentlemen that were accused of whipping the haitian migrants. i talked with a lot of theirs lives over the years and they told me their stories and all that but the biden administration restricted those horse men from telling their story. and to see the look on their faces now, totally different in administration. one of them actually had a joke for me. they watch the show every morning. and i said, you know, can i tell a difference with the look on your faces and he goes we watch every morning. we see a different look on y'all's faces as well. it's just unity in the country right now. >> brian: is there a sense of when they are going to start putting the wall back together? i mean, we know they stopped the selling off of the wall. but when are we going to fill those gaps? do you know?
