now focus turns to an enemy overseas. >> china is going to stop sending us fentanyl. if they're not, the tariffs are going to go substantially higher. >> charlie: "fox & friends" starts right now. >> ainsley: and we begin with a fox news alert. defense secretary pete hegseth making his first trip since taking office. making the trip to fort bliss, texas, getting a tour of our southern border alongside our border czar tom homan. >> steve: that's right. but the visit comes as disturbing new memo reveals that mexican drug cartels are planning on retaliation against border patrol agents. this memo says that mexican cartel leaders have authorized, get this: the deployment of kamikaze drones equipped with explosives to be used against u.s. border patrol agencies and u.s. military personnel currently working along the border with mexico. >> charlie: the fear among cartels trump's tough measures on the border will cut away at

their profits. often made from drug and human smuggling. but secretary hegseth is promising to deliver strong border security new era of determination as the trump administration continues its shift and focus from foreign territory to u.s. sovereignty. >> ainsley: let's bring in lawrence jones. is he live down on our southern border in el paso after visiting fort bliss with our defense secretary pete hegseth for the first border visit since his confirmation where they flew in a black hawk with tom homan as well. hey, lawrence. >> lawrence: good morning, family. before i get to the response of the secretary and the border czar, i want to lay out what happened yesterday, you'll understand why the cartel is under so much pressure. fort bliss is the home of south com. this is the operation where they are tracking all of these cartels. they know exactly where their tunnels are. they know the drugs coming across the border. they have been sitting dormant.

getting human intelligence for years now. and because of donald trump's -- the before the united states' election. they have been unleashed. >> the secretary of defense, pete hegseth had multiple briefings, classified and some unclassified that we had the opportunity to sit in yesterday and they got a lot of intel. mike banks, who used to be the texas border czar is thought four star that is over all of the border patrol and they are on the hunt. so i asked them the question yesterday. after that memo was released that said that now they are going to unleash these drones. they are going to try to shoot at our soldiers on the ground as well as border patrol. this is what pete hegseth and tom homan had to say about that. watch. >> the most powerful military in the world will not be intimidated by anybody. let alone cartels. these cartels feel threatened. they are going to look for other routes. there is going to be turf wars between them and eventually that's going to come north. if that does come north against border patrol or against soldiers, first of all, we're

biden, weren't they? >> lawrence: they were making -- i don't think i'm under estimating this billions of dollars. and now there has been a full effort -- i mean, you just see the spirit of these men and women as i was on fort bliss they get to do their job again. you saw their linked arms with border patrol. they are out there hunting the bad guys for the first time in a long full-time, guys. >> steve: yeah. one of the things pete hegseth said, the secretary of defense i'm so casual. i'm sitting in the spot he used to sit here on the couch. pete said yesterday that during the biden years the border patrol was essentially just baby-sitting the migrants who would come into the country and things like that. and baby-sitting the border as well. lawrence, you and i were on this couch last weekend where we look at and we saw some of the cartel guys shooting at some of the american drones. so, this makes perfect sense. they realize the power of the drone. they tried to take out the american drone. now they realize, you know what

in if you can't beat them, join them. they are going to try to fly some of these ied bomb drones, whatever they got cooked up there in cartel central at our guys. our guys are being told make sure you have got your rifle with you. >> lawrence: let me tell you something. i sat through multiple meetings with the secretary of defense pete hegseth. and he was talking with rank and file. there was moments through our interview that he would talk with the top brass. and then he would politely ask them to leave so he can talk with the rank and file. and he made it very clear yesterday. if they fire on you, you are to fire back. you are to guard yourself. you are to protect yourself. i don't want you guys to feel like that the rules of engagement are going to be the same as they used to be. >> steve: right. >> lawrence: he made it very clear also when he it relates to these drones and potential strikes on our officers as well as our military, there will be a response from the commander-in-chief. >> ainsley: yep. and the national guard now has

the power to be able to arrest anybody. thanks to your governor down there in texas, lawrence. and we'll get into this a little bit later. also, think about all the border patrol agents on both sides ever the border now after we did the mexico yesterday and the deal with canada now. even though they want to attack our men with the drones. it might not work now that we will have so many people down on the border. >> i would advise them not to do it. some of the stuff that i heard yesterday the technology advances that we have, and a secretary of defense in pete hegseth and the commander-in-chief in donald trump, i would politely say i wouldn't try it. >> charlie: it's remarkable what you can accomplish when you say no there is a border right here and we intend to enforce it. >> lawrence: that's exactly right. there was never a problem former president joe biden said don't. when you say don't, you have to have strength behind the don't. and so, the commander-in-chief, the secretary of defense is telling all of the cartels

throughout don't cross the border. don't do it. don't fire upon our people because the result of that would be the end of your life as well as the drain up your criminal enterprise. these other countries, these narco-states, they are going to have to fix their own countries as well. i think the pressure that they are no longer going to have clientele in america because we are not going to allow it across the border, you are going to see change real quick. >> steve: you know, if they have got cable there in the cartel headquarters they should know how we are amassing on the southern border. in addition to the law enforcement, which has been beefed up on both our southern and northern border after the tariff stuff and we are going to talk about that in a cup presidential minutes, marco rubio a couple days ago went down to panama and talked to the panamanian president and they come to some sort of a deal where it doesn't sound like china will run those chinese ports going forward next time the lease comes up. and it sounds like our warships are going to be able to get

through absolutely free, which is great considering we built it. so that was sunday. yesterday, secretary rubio met with el salvadorian president and came up with a deal. it's referred to -- we heard the experts say we need a safe third country agreement. and what that means is there are a r. a lot of countries who will not take their people back like china. essentially, marco rubio negotiated a deal with el salvador. now they are going take everybody back. >> ainsley: accept all deportees, includes all nationalities, and violent criminals in our pringes here in the u.s. that would include all the gang members from ms-13 that from el salvador as well as aner gang member could be from other country including tren de aragua. rubio is meeting with the president. this is what he says. he says the president agreed to take back all salvadorian ms-13

gang members in the united states lawfully. also promised to accept and incarcerate violent illegal immigrants including members of the venezuelan tren de aragua gang. but, also criminal illegal migrants from any country. >>age. >> charlie: if you look at those prisons, the footage from mega prisons, they are not kidding around. it is a serious, serious prison. >> steve: apparently also part of the deal was and, lawrence, we will have you weigh in on this. apparently they said and by the way, secretary rubio, we will also take any american prisoner in an american prisoner and we will put them in our mega prison. but we're going to charge you a fee. i don't know who they are talking about. maybe somebody at super max. maybe they are trying to close gitmo. i don't know what they're talking about doing. lawrence, sounds like el salvador to the rescue when it comes to we got take these migrants somewhere. >> lawrence: also, you are going to see this later in the program. this is all a part of the

deterrent mechanism. when these folks realize that they are going to be deported, that there is not going to be 10 million people come across the border in the next four years. i can tell you that the numbers are down. and back to the secretary of defense, he is taking calls with secretary rubio throughout the day. this administration, they are communicating with each other. i know it's a little rocky because they are cleaning house as well within their departments. but they have a plan. they are talking with the national security adviser, all of these channels, these gentlemen from known each other for years, and there's a plan in place from a diplomacy aspect saying take your penal back, all right? take your criminals back as well. but there is also the national defense mechanism of deterrence as well. so, all of these guys, all these gentlemen are going to be working together for the interest of america. that's the one thing that's different about this administration. >> ainsley: yeah, so we also talked about china.

trump said 10% tariffs. they retaliated. they said okay. then we are going to do 10 %, 15% on things like the large engine cars and agricultural machine, crude oil and u.s.s. cole. trump says let's get on the phone and talk on the phone. >> steve: probably today. >> ainsley: probably today. mexico and canada no, no, no, no. don't put tariffs on our products, please. instead we will put 10,000 troops down on the southern border and canada said they will do it on our northern border. >> steve: you can have company down there urns lawrence. >> lawrence: you know the interesting thing real quick the interesting thing if you listen to some of the democrats pushback, they are saying well this was offered under the last administration. why didn't you guys take it? if mexico and canada offered this before, why did you wait? i mean, that could have been a win for your administration.

he makes a deal. >> ainsley: you called it. >> steve: i'm giving the entire couch credit. he did exactly that it's all. and we have known him. he used to be part of this show back long before he ran for president. >> ainsley: wrote a book for it. >> steve: he called in every monday. we know how he thinks. we know when he has people on the ropes that's the time to get a deal. he got a really good deal for a month. it will be interesting to see though how mexico and canada react. and china, too. >> charlie: almost like everybody is getting along for too long and he just wanted to start a couple of fights. because you know if you just lay the markers down that's when the negotiation starts. and then who knows what happened. and it turns out at least as you say for 30 days. good things happen. >> ainsley: he talked to the president of mexico and the prime minister of canada. and this is what they agreed to. canada has agreed and actually mexico, too. this is what trudeau agreed. to say nearly 10,000 frontline personnel on the northern

border. ensure 24-7 eyes. list the cartels as terrorists. joint strike force combat crime and money laundering and appoint a fentanyl czar. they will spend $1.3 billion too do this. >> steve: that's with canada. conversation oval room talking about the deal with mexico. >> did you blink this morning. >> there is no blinking. she is a wonderful woman. she did agree to 10,000 soldiers on the border. i would say that's a lot. wouldn't you say that's pretty good? 10,000 soldiers on the border and the 10,000 soldiers are going to keep illegal aliens out. and they are going to keep them out, seriously out, otherwise, they are going to have a big penalty. mexico is going to be penalized. they are not going to come through mexico anymore and not let the fentanyl come in from china. china, hopefully, is going to stop sending us fentanyl. and, if they are not, the tariffs are going to go substantially higher. >> steve: now, keep in mind, there were already on a lot of products from china, 10% or 25%

tariffs already. so this is in addition to it. you know, and we were expecting this to go back and forth. so it will be interesting to see what happens with that phone call with xi and the president. if i was the president, i would say, by the way, mr. xi. there are a lot of people who have come to the united states illegally. from china and when they come here, we can't send them back. because you won't take them back. that's part of our deal. let's do something about them. but the other thing. >> ainsley: if not send them to el salvador. >> steve: can now. surprise. i thought i was going to be in miami now i'm in a mega prison? hello. the other thing that is troubling, one of the things that china has a lot of, is special minerals. they are minerals that we need for our technical stuff. a lot of it national security stuff. and they are now putting restrictions on the supply of that stuff. >> ainsley: tariffs don't go into effect, according to china until next monday. if the president is going to talk to xi this week, then maybe

there will be a deal. i'll predict like you did yesterday. >> steve: all right. let's see. >> ainsley: we'll see. >> steve: monty hall time. >> ainsley: looking to later today president trump is expected to host pen netanyahu t the white house. >> madeleine: good morning the meeting between president trump and israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu is seen as an attempt to bolster ties between the two countries. netanyahu says the meeting is a, quoted, testimony to the strength of israeli-american alliance. a testimony to the strength of personal friendship. yet, the two leaders are set to discuss some thorny issues with no easy resolutions. netanyahu says they will talk about victory over hamas. achieving the release of the hostages and dealing with iran. negotiations for the next phase of the cease-fire deal begin this week. that second face is supposed to

include the return of all living hostages in exchange for a full withdraw of israeli troops from gaza. netanyahu facing pressure from far right members of his coalition to keep the fighting to going to eliminate hamas. on monday netanyahu with national security adviser mike waltz and the president's middle east envoy steve witkoff. is he hopeful the negotiations will be fruitful, still the president on monday expressed some skepticism about the cease-fire's future. >> i have no assurances that it will hold. i mean, i have seen people brutalized. i have never -- nobody has ever seen anything like it. no, i have no guarantees that the peace is going to hold. >> president trump will reportedly hold a joint news conference with netanyahu later today. steve, ainsley and charlie? >> steve: all right, maddy, thank you very much. >> ainsley: thank you. >> steve: one of the other things, and he won't be able to work it out with mr. netanyahu, he has said in the past that he would like to get jordan and egypt to take some of the people

from gaza. i think his terminology was to help clean out gaza. so just like the problem with a lot of migrants in this country about we want to send them back, where do the people of gaza go because for the most part gaza has been leveled. a lot of it. >> ainsley: president trump saying egypt. egypt should let them in. not sure if that will happen. first joint press conference with a foreign leader in his second term. we will be carrying it. >> steve: charlie and i were talking about peter doocy. peter doocy told me he will be, i think, in the front row today at that end have. let's see. >> ainsley: wonderful. >> steve: meantime asking carley what she has got cooking. >> carley: i will serve it up to you right now. happening on capitol hill. the senate judiciary committee holding a hearing titled the poisoning of america. aimed at addressing the fentanyl epidemic in america. comes as tariffs against china take effect today in large part due to the deadly flow of

fentanyl from china. the hearing is scheduled to begin at 10:30 eastern time. also today a pair of committee also be voting on whether or not to send two of president trump's most high profile cabinet picks to the senate floor. director of the national intelligence nominee tulsi gabbard will be facing the senate intelligence committee while trump's hhs pick rfk jr. in front of the senate finance committee. both committees may not get a floor vote until some time next week. did you hear this? new jersey governor phil murphy's team is now backpedaling after the governor made this claim suggesting he was sheltering an illegal immigrant at his home. tammy and i were talking about -- i don't want to get into too much detail there is someone in our broader universe whose immigration status is not yet at the point that they are trying to get it to and we said, you know what? let's have her live at our house

84, holy moly like a week and a half ago talking 20's and 30's. that is significant. we could see record highs in big cities like houston, phoenix, tucson, el paso, and a lot of that warm air is going to factor in to our next storm system going to come across the central u.s. move over the ohio valley, northeast. high confidence for a threat of freezing rain in the midwest and the northeast. a lot of warm air. that record warmth is going to surge from the south and that's going to collide with the artic air and potential setup for the freezing rain and the ice. that's the dangerous part of the storm. you really can't travel when you have the freezing rain in the forecast for wednesday and thursday in these heavily populated areas. we are going to be watching this very closely over the knecht few days. and then the west, another atmospheric river pumping northern central california. that's going to get down toward southern california as well. mountain snow of course flooding is going to be the biggest concern. fox weather.com for all the latest details. steve doocy, over to you.

>> steve: thank you very much, j.d. >> janice: of course. >> steve: president trump is expected to speak on the phone with president xi of china today after making successful compromises with canada and mexico following his tariff threats of 24 hours ago. in a new op-ed. bill mcgurn writes in the "wall street journal" and explains how the president views his trade negotiations as a giant game of chicken. and the best way to limit damage for other countries is to make a deal. so, i think that the point is all the chaos and noise and disruption, we associate with trump's moves are a feature. he counts on that and thrives in it. and he knows when it comes to mexico and canada he has the advantage because they need our economy more than we need theirs. now, having said that, let me be clear. i think tariffs are a bad idea all the time. because i think it's a really -- they work until they don't work and then they can be catastrophic. >> steve: that's the key. that's why bill at this time the stock market was down. the futures were down 600 points. oh, man, if they go through, if they last for a while, it's going to be essentially a tax on everybody who buys stuff because the price would be passed along. but, some -- you know, over the last year or so, trump has made

big tariffs part of his pitch. and a lot of people like the idea. maybe it's not so much of a reality as much as it is a big stick. and to your point, as you write in the "wall street journal," it's a game of chicken. i got this big stick. it's called a tariff. do what i want or you're going to get clobbered. >> yeah. look, he wields it pretty effectively. again, being i think tariffs are very dangerous. you know, you don't know what the retaliation will be. you know, i don't want to be an alarmist. but you go back to smooth hallie 1930 part of the great depression. it just magnified the pain of so many americans. when the other countries retaliated in kind the irony to me is this is one part of trump's agenda.
