assess a patient as a physician. ultimately restoring health in our association is too important and i think mr. kennedy can help get that done. as chairman of the senate committee with oversight authority of his position, i will do my best to make sure that that is what we accomplish. i want mr. kennedy to succeed in making america healthy again. his success will be tied to the health of our nation. he has the opportunity to address the most pertinent issues affecting americans' health. we also need to reform institutions like fda and nih and those as already indicated are my priorities of chairman of the health committee. i look forward to his support in
9:01 am
news this hour as we begin news on "outnumbered." this pretty much insurers, absent casting changing, that rfk is the next secretary of -- >> let me tell you why it was so important to hear from the senator. he was the person that was holding out his vote. you see what he got for it. what he wanted was clarity
9:02 am
around what his protection would be if he were to fight against rfk jr., with regard to vaccines. he wants the dynamic proof. he wants all those things if rfk jr. were to challenge vaccines. once that tumbler fell by, you can completely open the lock on this. when it gets to the senate fl floor, it doesn't just have the recommendation that it's coming out of committee. it's a positive recommendation. you have one vote more republicans and democrats voting for him. this is highly important, but so is senator collins. everybody who has said they've had misgivings about someone along the way. as they fall into line, we get closer to the point where we have trump cabinet. we are still probably just a week away. i'm always anxious to know why can't they just get it together. there are a lot of things going on that they will see two senate votes in the full house in the next 24 hours. this is a big deal here speak up
9:03 am
you had thom tillis, the questionable vote for mark pete hegseth. we watched real time if he was going to vote for mike pete hegseth for mike secretary of defense. he came around. then, you have bill cassidy coming around. he specifically said assurances from the white house on vaccines were part of that. now, you have todd young, coming around on tulsi gabbard. this speaks to the huge political tail wind behind the trump presidency. >> democrats need to take a breath and look at rfk jr. specifically. he has not said "i am a conservative." he said "the issue is so important to me, i'm willing to stop fighting on these other things and focus on that." that's a compromise america is asking for. at and see tulsi gabbard or rfk did neither principals or things they said. a lot of heat against them is that they wouldn't change their answer. if they hadn't -- they would've been attacked on that. i see compromise within the republican party we would expect or like to see among congress.
9:04 am
there's no way 50 senators agree on anything. they all see a president, so they want to fight. it's the views and opportunities they are looking for. i'm proud of republican senators. i don't think any of them are giving up on things they care about. they are asking tough questions. it seems the process has worked for these nominees, and i would imagine there's a fight still on the road, but they understand getting the government functioning and filled is an important part of the promise made to the american people. >> at the same time, emily, it's been interesting to watch the recalcitrance among americans. a question if bernie would support rfk. didn't do that today. when -- by nominees we have really only seen one massive, bipartisan vote. that was marco rubio. democrats have sunk into this resistance posture. >> we did not see a unified

front. the statement made throughout the media and by their teams like "we are not sure about this, and we need to be convinced." there were a lot of 11th hour changes. with this, interestingly, while the betting odds in vegas reflected that rfk jr. and tulsi gabbard might be the most acrimonious. certainly, rfk jr. has encountered less headwind, to your point. this is despite, for example, one "new york post" that has run today a steady, committed resistance to the confirmation of rfk jr. that is quite fascinating. to me, this represents that they have fallen in line and number one, not only did the american people speak, but also the commander in chief. after these confirmations, they can go about representing deviations and what that kaleidoscope looks like.
9:06 am
this is a very important unified front. this is how we maintain against the midterms, which is coming up soon. >> there is the political opponents of this, but pete hegseth had one of the best public facing responses i think i've seen to a liberal press attacking him. you have rfk, who reassured pro-life senators "i'm with you. i will be hiring pro-life staff." he reassured on vaccines, clearing up past statements. tulsi reassured and assuaged the concerns, at least according to reporting, people like collins. these nominees deserve credit ffor the behind-the-scenes work and in front of camera work. >> that's an important point. this is not just on static. not just given away to pressure. there has been worked behind the scenes. they have been working with these nominees to understand where they are, in the case of tulsa gabbert she clarified her position on edward snowden, who did break the law. she does not support what he did, and wants to make sure that there is even easier
9:07 am
opportunities for others in the future. it's been a give and take. they have not conceded on their principal, but they've had to make, in the case of rfk as well, some serious commitments to the senators who do have good points. >> senator cassidy. that was a big one. >> it was. a whole lot of winning for the trump administration. and it doesn't end with rfk jr. purchased two weeks in office, president trump racking up when mike after win. first, columbia reversed course on taking back illegal immigrants. we watch the play out on x. the president said his own claim this time. venezuela got in line, agreeing to return american hostages, and welcome deportation fights. isn't that interesting? it did not end there. this -- folded after secretary of state marco rubio visited the country. panama is pledging to end a key canal deal with china and work closely with the u.s. this, after a little bit of resistance. yesterday, we got a one-two punch. first it was magical, then
9:08 am
canada, both caving after trump threatened trade war. in mexico sending 10,000 troops to the southern border, canada appointing a fentanyl czar and launching a $1.3 billion border plan. how about that for the art of the deal? now, we are waiting to see trump's next move will china. emily, this did not come without resistance from the left. chuck schumer had interesting props. >> in light of the things a lot of the people -- at the super bowl have beer and guac. much of it comes from mexico. the prices of these things are likely to go up. these tariffs are so bad that experts have said that they could cost a family as much as $1200 a year. speak of it looks like we still got beer and guac, emily. >> when i saw that charade, it
9:09 am
reminded me that the entrenched incumbents there represent not 1 ounce of who i am, at least, as an american. it is so tragic to me to see schumer standing with avocados and corona light, failing to see the forest through the trees. the 100,000 americans that have died via fentanyl poisoning in the last few years, the border agents who have died by suicide in rising numbers, the historic rapes, sexual assault, kidnapping, and plundering of our southern neighbors, mexicans, and pursuit of the southern border. the 800,000 children that have been lost in this country. the list goes on. for him to hold a fruit or vegetable and a beer is so demeaning to who i am as an american, and to the same as who have lost their loves ones -- goat loved ones, and all 50 states that of an impacted. being ramrod by china.
9:10 am
for me, this shows how unserious congress is, how deeply embarrassing our elected officials on the left have been, and thank god for the new administration and the guys in charge who are prioritizing american's safety over their props. >> gets to keep his beer and glock. the northern border of mexico in the process. thankfully, backup. aoc gets to keep her coffee. trump is about to make every american pay even more for coffee. she goes on, none of it happened. aoc. >> americans care about having the neighborhood safe, about not having fentanyl flooding across the southern border. canada spent no problem has doubled across the canadian border. you got to close the canadian border.
9:11 am
the tariffs didn't happen. it was a credible threat, but all this concern about the price of coffee, the price of beer and avocado. it didn't happen. president trump was successful in making sure these countries did their part to stem the flow of this illicit material. >> when it was announced before christmas that president trump had this design, i said guys, instead of freaking out like the media did come of this is the opening to a heavy-handed negotiation. indeed, that's how this has played out. we will see what happens a month from now when the tariffs are set to go into place. so far, this is looking more like a negotiation and less like tariffs being -- >> it's almost like someone he told us that's the way it would go. what has happened eight years ago. i don't know. i guess it's hard to keep the momentum you are a democrat right now. the people i know that are right about the price of gas don't make guacamole or drink corona. they go to work every day, come home, hope they can put food on

the table. here's my position on this that's been here the whole time. what comes from kandake my cars come from canada and mexico. you can't find a car if money cost so much you can't finance it. it sucks you can't buy a car, but could you afford one anyway if the interest rate is 8%? asking for vehicle loans right now. the big problem is how much our energy costs. energy isn't part of the equation with canada, but the difference is our previous president shut down energy production, shutdown liquid natural gas terminals to even get it somewhere so we can sell it and make it money. are previous president made the price of energy so high, idea that zealots in our country in europe -- with things like climate change. no matter how real it is, "am going to hurt you now on the heels of this high inflation for something that may help in the next 80 years." this president may space might be doing things that raise prices of some things for a small amount of time so that our kids stay alive, so they don't
