recession. guess what? we had neither. because of how countries response to tariffs. what's the first thing that happens when we raised tariffs? they lower their prices. you saw no inflation. we saw no recession. we saw prosperity, a golden age. >> he was in the first trump white house, 2016-2020. he is saying what happened to them. they are even trying to improve on that, but using that as a model. do you agree? >> the tariffs being talked about now are far more extensive than what they did in 2018-2019. the other thing is in the first term, they passed a big tax cut in 2017. that's what we hope is going to happen now. the president will focus on the big bit of full tax cut, get there were public ends off and get something big happening. not just renewing 2017 tax cuts, but extending and deepening them, including the cut in the

capital gains tax. if you get that big beautiful tax cut bill through in the next few months, that helps mitigate the damage done by the tariffs. it's a matter of timing and extent of it. >> our good friend larry kudlow, that's been his take. karoline leavitt said something similar at the white house put a couple of days ago, that you have to look at the entire economic approach. the tax cuts, rolling back regulations, and tariffs. if i'm hearing you correctly, it sounds like you agree with kevin o'leary, who was saying basically that is china deal, as we anticipate this phone call with president trump, will look much better than the deals with our neighbors mexico and canada. >> i think the china deal is more complex, requires more negotiation them a weekend of suspending tariffs for 30 days. i'm surprised it's only 10%. i thought 400% would be a good place to start. china is a big problem. i'm not sure this is going to be resolved on a weekend deal.
