aviv with more on remarks that are clearly getting a lot of reaction in the region. first let's go to lucas tomlinson at the white house with the latest push to gut government. good morning, lucas. >> good morning, martha. president trump has signed 54 executive orders since returning to the white house and as you mentioned the department of education could be next. peter doocy asked the president about this in the oval office yesterday. >> on the education department, why nominate linda mcmahon to be the education department secretary if you will get rid of the education department? >> president trump: i told linda. i hope you do a great job and put yourself out of a job. we spend more per pupil than any other country in the world and we're ranked at the bottom of the list, very badly. i want to let the states run schools. >> trump wants to reduce the size of the federal government through executive orders, buy-outs and layoffs. an official says at least 20,000 government workers have taken

the buy-out offer and that number is rapidly growing ahead of the deadline tomorrow. today the house oversight committee holds a right sizing government hearing and c.i.a. there appears to be changes headed there. "wall street journal" reported the spy agency is freezing job hiring unless the applicants have the right background for the agency's new goals, undermining china. the following message was posted on friday before midnight all usaid higher personnel will be placed on administrative leave except designated personnel for mission critical functions. the vice president vance posting to x last night he thought what elon musk and doge would find is 250 billion in waste. that number is much higher. keep in mind, u.s. government debt is over $36 trillion. martha. >> martha: thank you very much. meanwhile president trump is

overnight saudi arabia pushed back on the concept of forceful displacement and making headlines about iran. >> if it happens to a leader or close to a leader, frankly. if you had other people involved also, you would call for total obliteration of a state that did it. it would include iran. so i'm signing this and a very powerful document. hopefully we won't have to use it. >> trump taking to truth social saying i want iran to be a great and successful country but one that can't have a nuclear weapon. united states working with israel -- i would much prefer peace agreement which will let iran grow and prosper. we should start working on it immediately and have a big medal east celebration when signed and completed. god bless the middle east.

i want to shift back to what trump said about gaza overnight. significant and has serious implications for the ongoing cease-fire conversations. a senior hamas official speaking with fox news this morning said that any manipulation to the current deal could cause it to collapse. >> martha: trey yingst, thank you very much in tel aviv. >> dana: the director of the ronald reagan institute and charlie hurt co-host on "fox & friends" weekend. great to have you both with us. the "new york post" cover. we'll take over gaza and donald trump then given a little history lesson how he sees it. watch. >> president trump: i think the potential in the gaza strip is unbelievable. they have tried the other and they've tried it for decades and decades and decades. it is not going to work. it didn't work. it will never work. you have to learn from history. history has -- you just can't let it keep repeating itself. we have an opportunity to do
6:07 am
something that could be phenomenal. >> dana: reaction ran the gambit. i think one of the things it does is breaks the paradigm and says okay, all right, guys, if the arab world if you won't take care of it maybe we will and maybe it gets them to the table. i don't have insight into the strategy but at least we'll try to change the way we talk about this after decades. roger. >> i agree with you. certainly departing from orthodoxy is president trump's approach. there was a question whether president trump and his second term would choose to lead on the global stage would america retreat. it is clear he is going at the hardest and most difficult issues facing the world. that begins with the gaza strip. i think president trump here is opening up the aperture on the set of solutions that could advance gaza and secure the state of israel and that right now looks like he is setting up to set up some sort of deal that he can cut bringing in regional
6:08 am
partners like jordan, egypt and saudi. thats the framework by turning everything on its head. >> martha: charlie, what is your reaction? all of us were watching this and wow, can you rewind that? did he just say what we think he just said? watching netanyahu respond it was fascinating. what was your take, charlie? >> it really was, martha. if it had been anybody other than donald trump you would have not believed any of it. because we've gotten used to the way donald trump works we're okay, maybe he really is saying all this. i think that when you look back at modern history where you have this intractable problem where every solution -- the middle east is where every good solution goes to die and i think what donald trump is probably thinking is much like roger said, this is a shock to the system and it's a way of sort of getting everybody to forget whatever grievances they just had five minutes ago and get
6:09 am
them to focus on something new that they had never even contemplated before. i think the other thing that is interesting about it is it really -- i love what you were just pointing out about watching benjamin netanyahu's face during these remarks, he didn't look particularly happy about it. in fact, donald trump said we don't want to do this for israel. we want to do it for the middle east. i don't think that benjamin netanyahu particularly likes it. jordan and egypt don particularly like it. iran doesn't like it. probably nobody likes this idea except for donald trump. but that's kind of a useful tool and a way to get people off of the old way of thinking. the final thing that is important here is that by talking about rebuilding gaza into the riviera of the middle east is a way of signaling permanence that donald trump is not going away. you can't wish him away. you can't just sit here and play
6:10 am
all the games that everybody has played in the middle east going back for all of modern history. and expect it to go away. he wants to solve the problem and he will stay here until it gets solved. >> dana: the left said he is calling for genocide of the palestinians. yet i have to disagree with you, charlie. i think netanyahu was very pleased with this and people on the right of him in his domestic political situation that really like this idea and been bringing it up since the 80s. but watch netanyahu here, roger, charlie, this is at the press conference last night. >> you are the greatest friend israel has ever had in the white house. on the first days of your second term you picked up right where you left off. your leadership helped bring our hostages home and boldly confronted the scourge of anti-semitism and stopped funding international organizations like unwra that

support and front terrorists. and today you renewed the maximum pressure campaign against iran. >> dana: that was all in two weeks. roger, it makes you wonder what the biden administrations was doing the last four years. >> netanyahu has been trying to manage the w the biden administration and deal with the actual source of the terrorism, iran. president trump comes in and right away and why i see president netanyahu smiling. it all goes away. prime minister netanyahu heard president trump say i want the hostages home. he will hold hamas accountable in the executive order makes clear the source of the problems in the middle east in gaza stem from iran and the maximum pressure campaign is now against iran, not against israel the way netanyahu and the israelis felt they were dealing with at times during the biden administration. there is a lot here that president netanyahu will be
6:12 am
quite pleased about and handled president trump's idea how to deal with gaza, a lot of details need to play out. as i referenced before, that just opens up the playing field to an entire new set of possibilities. israel has its interests. not clear they actually want u.s. leading in gaza or boots on the ground in gaza. not sure americans want that either. a lot needs to play out in what trump means by taking control of gaza. >> martha: one of the reactions to this was this is a president who wants to remove us from foreign entanglements and now talking about taking over the gaza strip, taking over greenland, panama. the list is growing longer by the day. how do you see that? >> well, i think it is a real problem in terms of sort of making the sale. but the big difference here is unlike going and spending 20 years in afghanistan, for example, the country where great
6:13 am
empires go to die, donald trump makes it very clear he wants something out of all of this. he wants the panama canal back. he wants to own greenland. he wants to own and develop gaza, which is very different. a very different posture. now it may be foolish and may not end up working because of all of the inherent problems with in a place like gaza, but it certainly changes the perspective to a very firm america first perspective and also, as we have all been saying, completely changes the dynamics of the way everybody looks at the problem. >> dana: in the tease he set the cat among the pigeons. always a fun thing to watch. thank you so much both. >> president trump: get some dangerous people out of our country that is very important. >> dana: dramatic change at the southern border.

stunning data showing how president trump's crackdown on illegal immigration is making a big difference. >> president trump: i will close the department of education and move it back to the states and we'll do it fast. >> martha: campaign promise coming closer to reality. president trump putting the finishing touches on giving parents more control over their children's education. >> dana: new orleans ramps up security ahead of the super bowl. how the city plans to keep everyone safe following the attack on bourbon street. >> this is our 11th super bowl and we know the people can come and be confident that they will be safe and have a fun time.
