>> president trump's plan to bring stability to the middle east has sent shock waves around the globe. they must not be paying attention. during a joint news conference with israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu, the president suggested the united states "take over the war-torn gaza strip, rebuild gaza into the riviera of the middle east." >> the potential of the gaza strip is unbelievable. i think the entire world, representatives from all over the world, will be there. the will -- palestinians also. palestinians will live there. many people will of there. they have tried the other for decades and decades and decades. it's not going to work. it didn't work. it will never work. you have to learn from history. history, you can't just let it keep repeating itself. we have an opportunity to do something that could be phenomenal. i don't want to be cute.

their land, country, and soil of their nation. many wars passed on palestine, specifically gaza, and did not leave the palestinian people -- to migrate or travel to other countries. >> remember, there are still dozens of living hostages being held by hamas inside gaza. they are using these hostages as leverage in the ongoing cease-fire talks. these comments from president trump may be consequential at the negotiating table. >> thank you. paul, when we talk about this issue, one of the things kayleigh was bringing up -- and you can hear it from the details in the ground -- there are a lot of things going on simultaneously. it seems clear to me that the ultimate goal right now is to take the temperature down in the middle east. so whatever people understand, but if they understand about what the president is doing, that's always on the table.
9:06 am
>> there is negotiation here that has to happen. i think this is part of a negotiation plan. this is a ploy to put pressure on some of similar goals to step up. i don't see anybody else coming up with them. >> you mean the other arab countries that sit and watch like it's a movie? >> precisely, and have clutched their pearls when the united states goes to step in. of course, iran behind the whole thing. was taken on his word. this government in new york city couldn't get it done but trump does in months. the upper west side, nobody could do anything, it's a wasteland. next thing you know, there were these -- these buildings with trump on its name. they couldn't deal with the fact that you saw trump when you drive on the west side highway. the point is this: he sees a building project. he is used to pushing through that she's saying "i got for the mafia in new york. i had to negotiate with them." hamas is another mafia.

9:08 am
when this news broke last night, i was out to dinner with two of my friends who live in israel and are here visiting. i was fascinated to have a conversation with them and be there in real time for reaction, which was one of joy, jubilation, and first and foremost concern for the safety and health of hostages still yet to be returned. i know that as we talk about neighboring countries -- jordan, saudi arabia of course -- their goal is peace, stability, and economic prosperity, which rests on the notion that iran not be emboldened and act through proxies. remember what they said last year: the king of jordan said no refugees in egypt, no refugees in jordan. the president of egypt said "we aren't going to bring -- it risks bringing hamas into our borders." it risks violating it, the agreement of peace between egypt and israel if these guys launch missiles across the border into israel from within the borders. my point is that they are scared of hamas. that's what i read between the lines. you can't accept refugees
9:09 am
because you are afraid hamas is within them. then we got housecleaning to do. the point is that will be done with president trump now at the helm. i see this as an opportunity to push back on those neighbors that have not accepted those refugees, not just last year, but for decades during this entire crisis. >> lily, this is also kind of like if you can make a tariff for the middle east, and get people to believe you would levy it. this is sort of like that. i'm sure people believe him. maybe the democrats here don't come about people in that part of the world know who he is. >> we see a mention of peace through strength. economic strength, economic develop in. we need to understand that when war is happening, it's not just the loss of building an obvious lives, but you lose hope. the human spirit is impacted when that is around you. and what a great way to instill hope, even if it sounds like a headline that couldn't be believable, the riviera. but why not?
