national prayer breakfast. that's happening today a few hours from now. >> lawrence: see what i did there? it comes as congressional democrats continue to it protest trump's cost cutting moves while calling on elon musk to be fired from doge. >> brian: right. the last thing we want to do is get our budget in line. please, stop the responsible spending. lucas tomlinson joins us with more from d.c. lucas, go to town. >> lucas: as you mentioned president trump attending the national prayer breakfast in washington today that started under president eisenhower in 1953, one year before he added under god to the pledge of allegiance. now, those -- there is 40,000 workers that have accepted that buyout that represents about 2% of the federal workforce. the deadline is one minute before midnight tonight. and the office of personnel management says who opt for the buyout get paid through september without working. the offer isn't guaranteed the buyout offer was announced last week. expected that 9% to 10% of the

federal employees would accept it leading to $100 billion in annual savings. the "wall street journal" reports widespread uncertainty about the buyout if it will work as advertised prevent employees take it. many democrats are issued by elon musk and department of government efficiency trying to reform the government. >> elon musk wasn't elected or appointed by anyone and the behavior and the actions that he is taking are unconstitutional. and illegal. there's nothing about co-president musk that is about saving the american people money. >> our own hillary vaughn on the interview. 40,000 workers accepted the buyout. represents about 2 hers% of the eligible workforce. wants to trim the government payrolls through executive actions or scrapping agencies all together. the department of education could be next. nearly all of usaid staff will be placed on paid leave beginning saturday morning.

unions are all big, big spenders, big contributors to the democratic party. the democratic party thinks there is no government spending that the democratic party doesn't like because it thinks it knows better what to do with your money than you and i do. so anything at all, any idea that should be cut is something that they are opposed to. it's going to be interesting. the centers for medicare and medicaid, that is where a lot of the fraud,ed medicare and medicaid spending that's unquestionably where the biggest amount of spending in the federal government. it's good to see these things that trump has done, whether in usaid or some of these other departments. but actually that's where, you know that's where the money is as it were. the famous line about the guy who robbed the banks because that's where the money was. it's in these big government programs whereas you say, brian, huge amounts of fraud. we at the "wall street journal" reported on this over the year massive fraud in some of these programs. that is where it's going to be -- going to yield at love the cuts. as you say, the democrats to oppose that, once again, just

♪ president trump implementing 10% tariffs on chinese imports and trade groups now say it could raise the cost of our key prescription drugs. u.s. reliance on china for medications has risen 600% since 2016 our next guest says tariff could say lead to further domestic production. fox news senior medical analyst dr. marc siegel joins us now. good morning to you, dr. siegel. sealing seeing hi, ainsley how are you. good morning. >> ainsley: doing well. thank you. i know 90% of generic drugs are made in the united states. we do rely on china to get those ingredients. what is the solution? >> 90% of the drugs we use here are made -- 90% of the drugs here we use are generics.

and 90% of the ingredients as you just said come from china or india. so our supply chain is dependent, easily crippled by china and that's what president trump is worried about because it also leads to ingredients to fentanyl in mexico. is he trying to clamp down on this but it's a wake-up calling for the president to further deregulate markets here and to give incentives for more production here. it's gone down 60%, ainsley, in the past decade. and that's largely due recently to the inflation reduction act, of course, under president biden where if your prices went to high there were rebates. guess where the rebates went? not to the patient, not to the doctor, but to the middleman, to the caremark, to the express scripts, to the opt optum rx. making the drugs here and making the active pharmaceutical ingredients here. the tariffs are a warning. the tariffs already pulled back

canada in mexico. to say china it's a warning china has a rope around our neck and we need to move our production back into the united states. it's crucial because generic companies don't make much profit. one more thing, ainsley, in the doctor's office, when i go to prescribe something, it's really important to me that the patient gets what i want them to have or what they want to have. imagine if an inhaler is work for asthma and some pharmacy benefit manager switches it to something i don't even know if it's going to work or not. we have got to fix the system. >> ainsley: it's interesting you bring that up 22-year-old wisconsin man only 22 he died of an asthma attack. he asphyxiated. hits parents said he couldn't afford his rent and his drug. and the inhaler that he needed because the price went up. he used to pay between 35 and $67 for his inhaler. but the insurance company ended up dropping that drug so he goes to walgreen's on january 10th, and he realized because the insurance company dropped it,

look how much his drug cost $539. so how do we prevent this? what is donald trump need to do because that was under the biden administration. we don't want people dying because they can't afford their medicine. >> it's under the biden administration and i have just said it. doctors have to be able to prescribe something. something that was off the table for me now is back on the table. simba court. but nobody even tells doctors when these insurances and pharmacy benefit managers switch on us. and fixings supply chain will fix this. because, again, there's a huge shortage going on. you know, the left is saying the shortages are over. they are not over. there is almost 300 medications short this year. we are talking about life-saving cancer drugs, asthma medicine since you just talked about. antibiotics, drugs for adhd. intravenous in the hospital still short. we need the supply chain right here. president trump in his first
