rally tuesday outside treasury department. you had democrats casting musk's role at doge as illegals. senator chris van hollen called it a coup. >> elon musk wasn't elected or appointed by anyone and the behavior and the actions that he is taking are unconstitutional and illegal. there's nothing about co-president musk that is about saving the american people money. >> it comes as democrats have been pressuring their lawmakers to do more to stop trump's agenda like protest senate votes and throw up road blocks calling elon musk unelected bureaucrat who has amassed unchecked power. the party has few levers to use with republicans controlling the white house and both chambers of congress. really only the courts successful in reining in doge's pace. the administration reportedly ablock doge staffers restrict them from accessing information in the treasury department's

payment system. at some other agencies, a question is whether the staffers have required clearances. still the white house has been able to identify a lot of waste and abuse, especially at usaid. >> the democrats seem to be getting worked up about something which seems to make to most people just makes perfect sense. shows how out of touch and how weird the party has become. what is interesting, brian, about this doge operation. whenever it started it was intended the name gave it away the department of government efficiency. reduce spending. >> jacqui: and today we expect a surge of federal workers, according to the white house, to accept the buyout offer before the midnight deadline. as of yesterday, about 40,000 federal workers had accepted this program out of an approximate 2 million who could be eligible. it is, however, not quite yet the 5% to 10% that the white house estimated would take this deal and resign from their jobs

which, if they were to hit that goal would save an estimated $100 billion annually. guys. >> brian: do you know what? i'm just -- jacqui, i know i i m maybe preaching to the choir i'm astounded by the anger towards elon musk who is going through the treasury to find out what we're spending money on. so, when you programs defend i guess peru lgbtq parades in peru. whatever you want to do. but what he's doing now is trying to get our financial house in order. i see some people like tim ryan and david axelrod saying why are you doing this? why are they doing this? like what happened that's got normally moderate democrats screaming into a megaphone? >> jacqui: well, i think what you are watching is the party does not have really a leader right now and doesn't have a unified message. so it's responding to pressure from the, you know, far left of

its base that just wants to protest everything that trump is doing. you do have some, you know, other minds. i mean i think it was just yesterday jill biden's former press secretary was on our air telling his colleagues hey, you don't want to die on this hill. this is indefensible spending and other things you want to save your fire for. at the same time you have all this, you know, crying out about unelected bureaucrats running the white house. and we did just finish four years of biden where it was in many ways a coalition presidency. there were so many people. >> brian: generous word. >> jacqui: involved in policy making who were not elected. a little bit of, you know, little hypot hypocritical theres well. >> lawrence: amongst the washington press corps these are stories of a century you are getting to the bottom of wasteful spending which is what politicians have been -- they promised for decades to get rid

of. are they trying to run with the story or are they resisting as well to the musk investigations and to the spending? >> jacqui: i don't think either. i mean, i know that for my part i was trying to get some additional details on one item that the white house says that it blocked. i have not been able to get any documents and, you know, more information despite a couple of follow-ups. this is also being, you know, how mathere is such volume of i. i expect at some point when we get a report from one of these agencies or hear from someone who has had their funding yanked, all of the different things that have gone away or arguments for it or against it. i think we will still see more of that come out.

it's just the pace of which we are hearing about this waste is also so fast and they're going from one department to another to another to another. so i wouldn't say that one noe one is biting on the story or avoiding it. it's just there is a lot and getting the details is still allyalittle bit difficult. >> lawrence: roger that. >> ainsley: a lot of people don't like change. this is just taking out the government waste. you work hard for your money. you work hard to pay your taxes. and then tax money needs to be used in a decent way. and the right way. and so sending millions and millions to other countries, most americans aren't for that. >> brian: remember he said he was going to cut 2 trillion. >> ainsley: gavin newsom, he and donald trump have not seen eye to eye for a long time. gavin newsom is asking the homeless to come to california. the taxes are so expensive. he has lost a lot of people. they are dealing with the wildfires. so, a few -- what was it? a week ago donald trump went to california. came off the tarmac and there was gavin newsom, they shook hands and they had conversations and tour the disaster areas.

then gavin newsom went to the white house yesterday to ask for some federal money for the people and the businesses who lost everything in the fire. this is what gavin said after the president met with him. >> i look forward to more productive meetings and i look forward to the spirit that the define the meetings of this day, that spirit of collaboration, cooperation, the spirit that finds the best of the american people. >> lawrence: look, i don't know what happened at the meeting. but, it's not a great start when your state wants to put out trump proofing agenda items. i mean, it was always destined that there was going to be some fire, some national tragedy in california where they would need the federal government to step in. i don't know how you start off a conversation saying oh, mr. president, by the way we trump proved it but we need your assistance right now. >> brian: they are not saying it. he goes and meets with the series of attorneys at a cost of

$25 million. they want to trump-proof california. ready to challenge all the actions, like, for example, the ability for ice to function in that state outside orange county. they are a sanction area state. going to pay 25 million to challenge all donald trump and his administration's efforts in california, then don't ask for additional money to bail out california. fire recovery work for the budget passed. they got $2.5 billion. sadly the estimate damage is $250 billion. you need the federal government to help. now, 25 million compared to 250 billion is small, i get it. but don't tell me that you are going to use money that you have in a state running a deficit before the devastating fires to fight programs i haven't even presented yet at the same time come in hat in hand and say i want to work with you. can't have it both ways. same thing with the governor of new york. governor hochul and president trump have had some positive conversations. she says please leave the congestion pricing of $9 a hit in new york. i know you can take it out. well, don't leave elise

agree that a lot of the information that's been put out by baldoni's defense team in advance of this trial has been very telling about what might have happened on that set and it doesn't look like blake lively initially much of a problem with him. the question is what changed her mind and why did she go down this path ultimately? >> lawrence: do you think this is settled in court or do you think eventually they reached some type of settlement? >> i think this case has a lot of the kind of remnants of the johnny depp trial in some ways. >> lawrence: exactly. >> sort of split on both sides at the end even though johnnie depp largely won that case. there are questions about baldoni and his team's reaction to what they thought blake lively was going to spread in the media about her claims against baldoni. i think there is culpability potential there for him. in terms of the actual sexual harassment side of things if he wants to litigate that and the case continues on current trajectory i think he will emerge as the victor here even though he will be a bit bloodied

and bruised at that point. >> lawrence: that's the question right there. how bruised is he at the end of this? i want to get your comments on this other topic. driver was fatally struck in nhl's johnny and his brother is fighting to have his indictment tossed saying that the bicycle ling brother were both drunk at the time of the deadly hit and run. where do you stand on this issue? >> well, obviously, it's such a horrible tragedy that these brothers were killed. when anybody is killed. but the question of whether the criminal elements of the crimes that are being charged can be proven is completely different when somebody has alcohol in their system there is presumption they were engaged in reckless behavior. that actually has to be proven. the victim's blood alcohol content is actually relevant in terms of both the causation of the accident and the comparative negligence that might be at play there. so certainly this individual is going to fight the charges and that's a part of that.
