pentagon. defense secretary pete hegseth said doge is more than welcome of the dod. >> we need to know when we spend dollars we need to know where they're going and why. that simple accounting that is not existed at the defense department. every doubt we can find it is not being spent wisely is when we can put toward more fires but will welcome doge at the deity will partner with them it's long overdue. the defense department has a huge a budget buddies be responsible. >> this has been fascinating. guy, we will start with you. this initial talker there's been talk president trump is talking about going after the department of education truly thanks they are. this of you really want to save money go to the military-industrial complex. and now, the president they are light come on over, check us out particular books. >> i think the national defense is literally something that is required for the federal government.
3:05 pm
what's more important than a court existential function of government. but, that being said i think everyone understands that not every dollar is placed correctly or wisely within the pentagon. you have the defense secretary say we agree let's look under the hood. let's try to find some efficiencies and savings in the defense department, i think that's right the pentagon should not be exempt from the overall approach. it strikes me watching some the clips we just play specifically from cory booker, senator booker but he said we are in a crisis but he is the word crisis he did not seem to believe that did he? we are hearing that word that is abused and overuse the democrats currently trying to attach it to the situation people going in and trying to find some savings within our government are cacalling acrisis. it feels halfhearted like they don't quite actually internalize that. the use the word anyway but it don't think a lot of people are buying it. >> was a challenge of the democrats have our words they do

3:07 pm
trance surgery so definitely ways to cut corners and at myriad of different ways for. >> kudos to the marine traveler books and were the pentagon has some big goals, joey questioned. >> the marine corps could pass an audit they don't give us money in it with all the money goes to the navy they give us what we need, feed us we are hungry that's the marine corps. you look at the overall federal government we say there certain things like social security or medicare they don't to fight over every year they are mandatory spending. those are the largest well over 50% of the federal government spends the next largest piece of the pie is the fence everything else is kind of small but i forgot what it was whoever it was inter interview i think it s secretary rubio pete was only 1% of the budget. 1% of trillions of dollars is a lot. it's a whole lot it's a big portion of our tax dollars.
3:08 pm
the reason this is so important to find these cuts now they want to pass a big villainous tax cuts and it president trump would like to have the tax cuts to be forever, not be sunset it. the reason you have to balance that with cuts is because a tax cut bill without bouncing your spending is a spending bill because it creates interest d debt. this is all a part of the grander part of the policy decisions americans ask where or theyask for lower taxes aftet government waste you have to do that in concert or you end up borrowing more money costing us more money in the long run. >> in transparency the part of this has been some things were learning about how american taxpayers are being spent that's part of what has been so interesting. but it might be gone but communities are still feeling the effects of his border policies. the los angeles unified school district and the new york city teachers unions are now distributing red cards to illegal immigrants. they are about the size of a credit card.
3:09 pm
they tell migrants how to interact with federal law enforcement officials. but, it may be schools perhaps should be thinking about education is 69% of fourth graders, 70% of eighth graders do not meet the basic reading standards. the numbers are just as bad. thankfully president trump is taking parents in the big issue in the run-up to the election rate had signed executive order bolstering school choice for that'sbeen looked at is very controversial with some of the teachers unions across the country talking about this. we talked a little bit about it yesterday but joey, what your thoughts today? what to do not understand fully the part of education issue. i don't think there's a lot of money to be found in the department of education. i've got friends who are principals one of my friends is in charge of finding the money to run the school district for what's called a title i school district that's the one they get the most federal funding.
3:10 pm
the majority perf perform very l the reason they get the money is that community is impoverished or below a certain rate is below the poverty line. each state gets to decide what they do with that from the department of education for the bigger sins are within states that are misallocated and that money perhaps towards red cards or what have you. i think that the more intricate problem than simply cutting it. >> may be some the controversy comes from what the department of education focuses on which and so part as low income students fighting for them and also students with disabilities. so, when people look at potential cuts and changes to the department of education they worry about those two aspects. >> it is a shame because a lot of the public schools were a lot of parents are forced to send their schools are the schools parents no longer feel safe sending their children. because they do not have as much parental control over them anymore in the settings. you think see kids in public scs being subject to woke
3:11 pm
indoctrination. you see the administrators, the teachers aiding and abetting the children of illegal immigrants, giving them these red cards saying you actually don't have to answer your doors. do not answer to ice. it's just really sad. on one hand you see kids who can't read, they can't write, they cannot do basic math yet they are being learned how to evade the nation's laws and the sovereignty in the country. it is a scary situation i think a lot of people are being put in. it's a trump giving parents more of that right and giving funding for them to go to faith-based schools and private schools i think it's a good thing. >> there are schools all across the country particularly in some districts as we have seen ice taking action all of the country but this has caused some concerns and school districts across the country school communities. >> a couple of points. first on school choice i welcome
3:12 pm
anything the feds are willing to do, they have some sovereignty in washington d.c. trumpeted the executive order the real action is in the states. we have seen a lot of movement on that front in recent years there's been a huge amount of progress there. texas i think is right on deck here. a sign for texas and finally get this done the bill passed in the texas senate then get that fidefinitiongovernor abbott's bl issue so hopefully that red state does what has to get done i was a belatedly but better late than never. on this other issue of the so-called red cards, i think were a lot of americans come down on it they say you look at the educational outcomes from actual metrics you are talking about. reading, grade level math and that sort of thing you look at the sliding nationally. we talked about this yesterday one in three eighth-graders in america functionally illiterate right now. you wonder what kind of school district is prioritizing this
3:13 pm
type of thing, evade the feds over the court basic job they are supposed to do which is educating kids. the answer is the los angeles unified school district with that is their priority per member during covid codes were locked out of schools in southern california. but some of those teachers were showing up in person to teach the children of illegal immigrants. the priorities and some of these places are completely out of whack and this is probably exhibit eight. >> coming up on this jampacked to our edition of the big weekend show, president trump is demanding answers to a multiple attempts on his life. plus tonight super bowl bingo we are sharing our guesses on who will make the biggest moments of the game will be. where ya headed?
