comply with his order, one judge's order to unfreeze federal spending. judge john jay mcconnell handed it down after 22 blue states were up in arms. they went for sympathy play citing hiv in the congo. mcconnell ruled trump team had overstepped executive authority by halting the money. if one judge has the power to stop the trump clean-up crew in its tracks, don't you think we should know a little more about him? it is as badda you imagine. mcconnell once was treasurer of the state committee and donated 100 k to liberal democrats, including to biden, hillary, to the dnc and really hefty chunk of cash to democrat congressional campaign committee

and the list goes on and on. again, this is anne unbiassed jurorist. this is someone who has the power, keep scrolling, guys, power to do what? to issue a nationwide injunction and stop a duly elected president from doing what voters elected him to do. it is a scandal. joining me now mike lee, former supreme court law eshg which. senator, in total 40 lawsuits filed against trump administration. you and i predicted this and knew it was coming and adverse rulings came from a few republican appointees. focus on this judge in rhode island. should the white house in your estimation, you look at pleadings, prevail on merits here? >> yes, i believe the white house will prevail on merits of this case and other cases that are pending.

it is important to remember, this is within purview of executive branch. what they are looking to do, elon musk and doge going in and looking for waste, fraud and abuse and ferret out ways to stop this problem that landed us 36 trillion in debt with no easy way out. the fact they are doing this and doing it within what the law allows, democrats get upset and run to the court. having lost in court of public opinion and lost elections they will try their hand at litigating and picking off one-off judges to slow the process down. make no mistake, we're not going to win, the right side will prevail, this is a matter of delay. keep this delay as brief as possible. >> laura: the other issue here for a lot of americans are con confused about how a single district court judge in a forum

like the first circuit which covers new england states can actually grind a president's agenda to a halt and who ultimately would put an end to this and would supreme court rule on this and get a law through congress? i don't know, ending national injunctions, but this has to stop, this is insanity. >> one would hope, laura, when orders came out a few days ago, i commented on x and my mike lee accounts, probably a moment like this when you go and seek extraordinary writ of mandamus, stopping abusive action by a judge mid-stream. court of appeals could do that and get the whole case expedited in front of the u.s. supreme

court and i hope pam bondi and her team will consider thesis options. these judges are out of line, they cannot undo the election of november 2024. >> laura: so you have a seattle judge, dc district judge carl nichols who clerked for justice thomas, a boston judge, rhode island judge, a couple reagan appointees, another ruling on for that was filed on behalf of pregnant illegals on birth right citizenship. these are coming fast and furious and the goal here is to slow it down. so people get demoraleized and i guess go back to business as usual? i don't think the trump team is business as usual. >> not at all, i anticipate delays will last a few days, hope not more than a week or two.

other cultural issues or maybe climate change or lgbtq. i mean, that was all kind of interwoven into these grants, which i think also is going to shock a lot of people when they find out about it. >> yeah. i think a lot of the receiving countries may not be as angry at being cut off as we think. because it's very ironic the left turned out to be 19th century cultural imperialists trying to impose their own values way out of the mainstream on these traditional societies that resented that and the money mostly went to elites anyway. that they never saw much of it. so, and you know, they keep saying elon musk, elon musk, he doesn't have a statutory role in actually making the cuts. he is an auditor. he just goes through. he says these are the things that we find wasteful. and then the president either himself or through his cabinet officers makes the actual cuts. they know that. >> laura: yeah. >> it's just a lie.

act on it. i think it's been fantastic so far. and while senator markey was at our front door, i was out in los angeles at the sites of these fires where epa is actually doing our mission, where trump gave us 30 days to remove hazardous material and crushing it on the ground and he is at the front door. who is stopping the work is that type of activity at our front door distracting our people from getting the core mission done. >> laura: about california, lee, there is also concern, however, there that the building is not going to be restoring that area to what it was. but, something much more akin to the kind of social engineering projects that a lot of conservatives have been warning about. what can you tell us about that as you do your other work there? >> that is something that we had not yet come across. as i was pointing out, our phase one mission, which president trump when he came in he did an executive order, he said get

your job done cleaning up the hazardous material within 30 days. we currently have over 1200 workers on the ground. as phase one gets done army corps at that property comes in and does phase 2. that's the debris removal. as far as that long term recovery rebuild, to your question, that's something that hasn't crossed my plate just yet. >> laura: all right. and, lee, this issue with the constant protest at federal agencies, that's -- that's a decision the democrats have made. that is their new strategy. and they believe it will change public opinion somehow by showing you all as heartless and uncaring and lacking in compassion. they are using the word authoritarian and dictator, it's back to the 2024 playbook. what are employees of your department saying to you as this -- these protests continue? >> >> they believe in the core mission. and it's important that we do the core mission, a place like
