4:03 am
day one begins today. how else to start the day? some p.t. with the troops. >> i'm still upright and fairly stoked from this morning a little p.t. great to be here. thank you for showing us around. to see all the supporting staff and have time to spend with all of you just to break bread and talk about your mission what you are doing and why you are doing. what it is all about and how important it is to us back in washington who very actively want to get out to hear from the people as you are doing the heavy lifting shut gart is home to european and african demands general christopher can a voluntarily. before touching down in germany. signed a new c-17 bringing back the name fort bragg. >> pursuant to the authority of

rolland bragg. for decades served there can say i served in fort bragg. >> carley: pull the old signage out of the garage. >> hopefully they didn't throw it out. >> brian: on another note, most of the talk is going to be about ukraine, right? about the aid. now it's going to be i want this aid across. going to get into talks. hear what the holdup is. and find out what is really going on in the battlefield. >> yeah. there is no question, brian. we were talking to officials aboard the c-17 here on the ground about the ukraine aid. we are told the aid to ukraine is still going. there is something on maybe a decision coming up about another future package. there is no question that the munich security conference it's notable the defense secretary is not attending that but the munich security conference where vice president j.d. vance will be going later this week here in germany. there is no question ukraine is on the table. ukraine president zelenskyy is going to attend and the trump administration we have heard want to end this war and you know, remains to be seen how that is going to happen.
4:07 am
remember, brian, last time there was a munich agreement didn't work out so well in history. >> oh, yes. >> steve: no kidding. before you go, lucas. from your point in stuttgart, germany while you are there with pete, the vice president is also in europe. what's he up to? >> well, he's in paris, steve, attending an ai summit. he spoke earlier this morning. he's on his first overseas trip as well. both the defense secretary and vice president here in europe, here is the vice president earlier from paris on ai. >> steve: before you go, one other thing countless revolutionary applications and inknow cooperation. national security, healthcare, free expression and beyond. i really believe we'll facilitate and make people more productive. it is not going to replace human beings. ai, we believe, is going to make us more productive, more prosperous and more free. >> is, again, the vice president
4:08 am
coming here to germany later this week for the munich security conference with ukraine at the top of the agenda, guys. >> steve: all right. thank you, lucas. >> brian: couple things with secretary hegseth is doing exactly why he wanted the job. he wants to find out from people who are actually serving overseas in positions. it's great to get a report from a general and i'm sure they are competent and good. when you sit down and talk to people and just say i'm one of you, about your age a little older, what is happening? do you feel like the communication is good? what about your families? the schools okay for you penal that are going to school on base? and what have they told you going to deploy you into iraq or over to syria. and pull out of syria. i wouldn't be surprised if there was a trip over there to find out those 900, which is actually 1700, in syria. -like what kind of threat are you under? who is going to control that prison of isis fighters if we pull out? so, instead of getting a report and a promise, he gets a seat
4:09 am
face to face. i think is he going to be so active. that's also going to help the holistic recruiting because a secretary of defense who cares about the person. >> lawrence: brian, i saw that in action with the secretary of defense last week. there was many a time he has the generals in there and he has the rank and file that's in there. he would meet with the generals that have classified, unclassified meeting. but then he would kick them out. he wanted to talk directly with the servicemen and women e-7 and below. so he can get an unfiltered view. and they felt comfortable talking with him. is he there this morning. working out with him. all of this is going to not only boost the morale but the recruitment as well. and i think that's the big thing. we need more wore fighters right now. >> steve: right. also, remember what donald trump ran on. and what he talked about around the inauguration so look for pete to also discuss with the troops over there that donald trump has wanted to reduce our footprint in europe by 20,000. he wants to bring 20,000 american soldiers home. >> the other thing is trump has
4:10 am
said in the past that he's going to demand a subsidy from our european partners. in other words, whatever troops are left that work for the united states, the people in europe are going to have to pay for it. so, look for that to be part of the conversation. >> brian: just to build on what you said richard last over the weekend. everyone likes to criticize trump's policy. i like the europe thing only thing get them to start spending money on defense is to know that america will not be sitting there watching their back. the other thing you wave in is ukraine falls to russia. we're going to have to put so much more money in to put more troops and more fortifications in and around the other nato neighbors. baltics it's going to cost everybody more money. that's why it's important for ukraine. >> carley: something that donald trump brought up with bret baier during their interview when it documents canada even. he says canada spends the lowest
4:11 am
amount in defense spending because they assume america is going to protect them which, of course, we would that's one of the things that grinds his gears and gets under his skin and says you have got pay your fair share or become a 51st state very unique. >> steve: if he pulls out 20,000, suddenly the europeans are going okay, we're going to have to do more. and that's the point. >> brian: poland really wants more troops name the base after them. >> lawrence: like it. >> brian: if you would build a base in poland we will name it after you. >> lawrence: that's smart. they understand who they are negotiating. >> carley: wouldn't be the first trump name on a building. all that is going on overseas. back here at home crack down continues as homeland security now looks to deputize irs agents to help boost enforcement efforts. >> lawrence: senior correspondent peter doocy joins us now. >> sometimes those irs agents would be helping build a tax or money laundering case against an

military is not going to have such a hard time. and all of this just creates a big new deterrent that is being noticed around the world. the "new york post" is citing sources at the border who claim that groups of dozens of migration at a time are not even making their way all the way up to the border to claim asylum they are turning around and going home. back to you. >> brian: brettia amazing. that was the whole goal. i remember when congressman cuellar says you need to show video of them being turned around and going back i thought why. that's although see in central and south america. it's no longer worth the money. the question is, peter, the numbers keep staying low. i wonder how long you need military out there. soon they will maybe have to decrease the numbers. >> peter: for as long as donald trump is president, it would seem like they are going to remain there. because he promised secure border. the deportation numbers have not been as fast as a lot of people around here at the trump white house would like. and so, the easiest way to avoid
4:14 am
delays of deportation is just to let fewer people. in. >> lawrence: peter, any word on the leaks? any information on where they are coming from? i know the department of justice saying they are going after the person. is this a holdover that is turning this information over? what's the latest on this? >> hard to speculate about who it is, but, tom homan is really steamed. >> he is. he has the president's ear. very unusual. even though there are constant leak investigations in washington. very unusual to have the commander-in-chief himself, so invested in trying to figure out who is leaking. it seems like it is coming from somebody with knowledge that only a small group of people would have. and the small group gets smaller. and smaller and smaller until they figure out hot leak is and they have different ways of figuring this out. sometimes they try to flush out leakers by telling a small group

false information to see if the false information guilty out there. and so, they have some tricks. and. >> carley: going to get to the bottom of it. >> peter: they will try. >> brian: peter, they say it's the fbi. tom homan accused the fbi putting officers' lives at risk by leaking details. he thinks it's out in the west coast. kash patel can't get there quick enough steve we will see what happens. >> peter: law enforcement officers swear an oath not to do it. a lot of hr policies that they would be violating. whoever -- if whoever is leaking the information that is tipping people off to these law enforcement raids, they are facing severe federal penalties. >> steve: absolutely. and the law enforcement could get hurt and that's the worry. peter, thank you very much. >> carley: thanks, peter. >> steve: peter did mention the number of migrants at our southern border is absolutely dwindling. when you take a look at the
4:16 am
number of migrants encountered on sunday, just about 300. the average day in december during the biden administration was 8,000. now, here's what's different about it. under the trump administration, we got another graphic, you know, they have ended catch and we lease. and so, during the first two weeks of the trump administration, only 461 were released into the united states. that means 94% were not released. whereas when you look at the joe biden number, it was 5,000 a day. and 70% of them were released into the country. i want to know who those 303 people are. hey, it's essentially a brick wall now. don't bother. >> lawrence: part of the reason why the numbers are so low is because they are not even allowed to cross. for example, you used to have a lot of migrant come across the border and just surrender to
4:17 am
border patrol. >> steve: they would have to ask are you seeking asylum. >> lawrence: some of them went through the app. they did multiple facets. what you see now the border patrol and military see these folks or if you see them in the rio grande they are saying turn back around. you can't -- if you try to jump the fence, they are going to use, you know, pepper spray. they are going to use any tool, the beanbags, or they are going to physically push you back across the border. dr. used to be a posture of just letting them come across that's no longer the case. >> carley: we are talking about allot about the migrants people who live in ranches and farms along the southern border we have all visited and done pieces down there. they say they feel completely forgotten by the biden administration who let hundreds migrants to cut across their property. many of them -- all live in very rural areas where the police department is very far away they felt threatened for their safety. >> steve: of course. >> carley: i spoke to a woman who had 14 and 12-year-old
4:18 am
daughter. >> steve: ii remember. >> carley: the woman was teaching them how to use a gun in case something happened. what a relief to those americans who now feel their property is more safe. this is private land. >> brian: there is going to be a huge sweep out in california. they announced it already of illegals. pushing back. i'm watching video this morning pushing back with the california state college system. pro-palestinian, anti-ice protest as backwards state that is. and then you have you wonder why people weren't feeling the employment. numbers are great employment growth went to immigrants this year. and illegal immigrants is up 4.7 million compared to that last year. the people who are getting the jobs in america are here illegally, temporarily, so we're not feeling the job increase. people are benefiting from illegals working here.
4:19 am
so that goes to the overall picture is how come you are telling me the economy is great and we aren't feeling it. >> lawrence: because it isn't us. >> steve: the southern border is feeling it because the the "newk post" has exclusive story this morning talking about how they are seeing people they either are looking at these numbers and turning around or they are already heading back. they are heading south. the flow of migrants north is slowing. way down. and now it's picking up going they are not going to let us in. >> they said in honduras they discovered a group of 25 moigs from venezuela and cuba traveling south back to nicaragua. another group in from honduras turning back from new mexico. they are interviewing them as they are leaving. that's the goal. send the message. put your biden shirt away. >> lawrence: cartel is upset right now. >> carley: more news to get to starting with. this justice department ordering charges against new york city
