i would argue brazilians on or about indians would be a good pick to go from because they are friendly to the west as well as to the russians. so, there are some issues that have to be resolved, but i think they will be resolved quickly thanks to mr. trump. >> earlier this morning. secretary hegseth addressed ukraine and america's stance on the war right now. listen to what he had to say no country, as president trump has pointed out, major a largest commitment to the north of $300 billion. the united states has invested in stabilizing those front lines after the aggression of russia. there is no betrayal there. there is a recognition that the whole world and the united states is invested and interested in peace. a negotiated peace. >> carley: making the point that the united states has done a lot to support ukraine in this war. and lt. colonel, you mentioned secretary hegseth's comments about how nato membership is off the table and he also said that

it's unlikely -- it's unrealistic for ukraine to think they would go back to the 2014 original borders that included crimea in ukrainian territory. and then there were critics who said that saying something like that preemptively before negotiations started could hamper ukraine in the long run in getting more of what they want. what's your reaction to that? are those critics accurate? >> well, you are always going to find critics, carley. i think mr. trump has been saying the same thing for a long time. the pre2022 or pre2014 with crimea borders as secretary hegseth said are absolutely unrealistic at this point. 80% of the eastern provinces are controlled by russian troops. they have been there for, you know, almost three years now. and, of course, extracting them would be incredibly difficult. i think a show stopper for putin. so you better draw a line there. and, of course, maybe establish

a demilitarized zone, as i indicated earlier, occupied by international for forces that kind of keep the peace in the middle. so i think, however, our transactional president is wise in that trying to recover some of that $300 billion we have spent on this unfortunate war, he has made the proposition of getting some rare earth metals. that's important because more than 80% are controlled right now by the chinese a our true adversary hear and that's a great deal for us as well as energy exports. >> todd: i think that's fair. we have given a lot of taxpayer dollars. men and women of the united states go to work every day try to put food on their table and pay taxes a lot went to ukraine. we should get something in return. lt. colonel bob maginnis, thank you for your time. with that "fox & friends
