president trump was sworn in as president of the united states. vladimir putin responds to strength. in 2014 he invaded crimea not during the presidency of donald trump. there was no russian aggression from 2016 to 2020. in 2022, vladimir putin took aggression on ukraine. once again not while president trump was president of the united states. so any suggestion that president trump is doing anything other than negotiating from a position of strength is on its face a historical -- >> dana: secretary of defense pete hegseth answering a question what russia would be asked to give up in the deal. >> bill: we'll watch the senate floor, too, on kennedy's vote. >> dana: a lot going on. the president at 1:00 in the oval office. harris faulkner takes you through the next hour. >> harris: a lot of simultaneous
8:01 am
breaking news as we often do on "the faulkner focus." right now you just saw our secretary of defense talking about what russia would have to give up. we're monitoring that. for right now president trump is on track to keep his winning streak with cabinet nominees going. the u.s. senate is now voting in full on rfk, jr. to lead health and human services. this is the full confirmation vote and you see the tally. we'll keep it up on the right-hand side of the screen there. he is set to become the president's 15th confirmed cabinet pick. i'm harris faulkner and you are in "the faulkner focus." also this hour the senate judiciary committee will vote to advance kash patel's nomination for f.b.i. director teeing that up for a final vote, a busy week, republicans, including the president and his staff, have said this is the week where you will see more confirmations and
8:02 am
it is in play. yesterday newly sworn in director of national intelligence tulsi gabbard promised some major reforms. >> unfortunately, the american people have very little trust in the intelligence community largely because they've seen the weaponization and poll ittyization of an entity that is supposed to be purely focused on insuring our national security. it is truly humbling to be in this position to serve in your administration, help to rebuild that trust, and ultimately to keep the american people safe. >> harris: chad pergram is live for us on capitol hill with the latest. chad. >> good morning. this roll call vote right now to confirm robert f. kennedy, jr. is open. the vote is 36-26. he needs a simple majority. we think all republicans with
8:03 am
exception of maybe mitch mcconnell will vote in favor of him. at one point the kennedy nomination was very controversial. republicans went into rescue mode to work with gop skeptics. some republicans question how democrats once embraced rfk, jr. on the environment but oppose him now. >> if bobby had been nominated by joe biden it would have been called a brilliant move. since it's donald trump that nominates him all of a sudden is a vulcan. we will make america healthy again. >> republicans had to win over skeptics. democrats torched kennedy. >> by now it is beyond clear that mr. kennedy is not remotely qualified to become the next secretary of hhs. in fact, mr. kennedy might be one of the least qualified people that donald trump could have chosen for the job.
8:04 am
there were so many others who would have been better. >> this is only the third nominee to lack the support of democrats. the others were director of national intelligence, tulsi gabbard and pete hegseth. after they confirmed robert f. kennedy they will vote to confirm brooke rollins. senate will vote to confirm her in bipartisan fashion. they've already moved through a slate of these here. we should be able to call this probably within the next ten minutes even though they keep the vote open. there is a point where they cross the threshold and know if he has the votes to be confirmed and we expect him to be sworn in stimulates today. we'll keep on eye on this. 15 votes short. the reason it's taking a while for the vote to come in, it is a hectic day. the judiciary committee is meeting now to prepare patel to be the f.b.i. director and send it for a vote next week. they're meeting now. there is also a committee
8:05 am
hearing right now the confirmation hearing for linda mcmahon to be the secretary of education. that is going on right now. you have several things happening at once and senators need to be three places at once. they might be on the judiciary committee, they might be on the education committee here, they might need to be on the floor to vote and running between these three things and taking a while now. right now the vote is 36-27. 36 in favor, 27 opposed and again the vote is still open but we expect him to be confirmed probably in the next ten to 15 minutes. >> harris: we have a running tally on the right of the scene. we're following it. thank you for all this. if the news warrants we'll come back to you on capitol hill. right now karoline leavitt, white house press secretary in "focus." great to see you this morning. what is the talk with the president of the united states now as he is seeing more confirmations for the people he has chosen? >> it's great to see you,
8:06 am
harris. president trump and this entire white house are pleased with the way that things have been going on capitol hill. all of president trump's nominees thus far have been confirmed. some of them unanimously confirmed by the united states senate. today we expect that rfk, jr. will be confirmed as the department of health and human services secretary. we expect that he will swear in to that honorable position later at the white house here today in the oval office with president trump. it is a very exciting day because president trump made a bold promise on the campaign trail to make america healthy again and he is entrusting rfk, jr. with doing that. there is nobody better to investigate the chronic illness crisis in this country. the united states of america is one of the wealthiest nations in the world but unfortunately we are one of the sickest. there has been an 88% increase in cancer since 1990. we've seen that one in 36 children are now impacted by
8:07 am
autism. when rfk, jr. swears in today and there will be a maha commission. it is an important issue for so many americans and an exciting day. the president will deliver on that promise. >> harris: we've seen it where the president tells us exactly what he will do next as soon as a someone is confirmed. he takes action first and that plays out. i would imagine there has been talk about what's next with education. we do know that that department will get a very, very close look at with mcmahon when she is confirmed if so. i do want to get to this. the president's justice department is taking on new york leaders over the state's sanctuary status for illegal immigrants. attorney general pam bondi announced a lawsuit against new york's governor hochul and attorney general james. that lawsuit is also asking a court to end the state's green

light law that lets illegal immigrants get a drivers license. governor hochul called the suit smoke and mirrors. james said she is prepared to defend the law. bondi announced the move alongside tammy norv else whose daughter was killed by an illegal im grant. some of what they had to say. >> a new d.o.j. and we're taking steps to protect americans, american citizens and angel moms like the mom standing behind me. >> new york has chosen to prioritize illegal aliens over american citizens. it stops today. >> this should have not have ever happened to my daughter and it shouldn't be happening to other families being hurt by the border. homeland security did not do their jobs. >> harris: this dynamically affects families as you've seen. i want to ask you, karoline
8:09 am
leavitt, $100 million were just clawed back because of the president's actions now through doge, the department of government efficiency, from new york and just talk to me about what is happening with this state. he said he would focus on new york. >> he did because president trump loves new york. it is his home state. he helped build the new york city skyline as it exists today before he decided to run for president. and he is taking a serious action across this administration to make new york great again. it is so sad to see what has happened to new york city, which was once the envy of the world has now turned into a place, a dumping ground for illegal immigrants from all over the world. this administration is no longer going to allow that to happen. this lawsuit, this very strong lawsuit by attorney general pam bondi is great for the people of new york, for law abiding citizens but most importantly for law enforcement.
8:10 am
the 2019 radical law barred federal law enforcement from communicating with state authorities on the immigration status of individuals who are committing crimes in new york city and throughout the state. so kudos to the attorney general for filing this lawsuit and president trump will continue to speak out and put pressure on letitia james and governor hochul to do what is right for law abiding new yorkers who are put last because of their radical policies especially over the past four years with the help of the biden-harris administration. >> harris: so much of this is coming to light for even new yorkers. they know some of the things going on in their cities but learning about the green light law has been interesting. dmv being able to tip off if it chose to illegals the feds might be looking into for illegal immigration. people now know this. they are thankful for that. we have had breaking news. i'm glad you are here with me. kash patel has made it through
8:11 am
committee. a confirmation vote, a senate vote will be next on that. first reaction for the next potential director of the f.b.i. >> very exciting news. it is exactly what we expected. kash patel is very qualified to lead the f.b.i. don't forget he spent much of his career as a public defender as well as a prosecutor. he has been on both sides of a courtroom and cares deeply about the constitution and restoring law and order and true justice for all at the f.b.i. we look forward to him doing that. >> harris: i'm getting some details. we saw this yesterday with another nominee tulsi gabbard. she was confirmed and now mitch mcconnell, the lone republican no on rfk, jr. for hhs secretary to get it out of committee to get it to the floor. what's going on? >> i think it's very unfortunate that senator mcconnell has chosen to vote against some of
8:12 am
president trump's nominees considering not a single democrat voted against any one of joe biden's democrat picks to lead his cabinet. look how they all turned out. they were atrocious at their jobs and led our country to be much worse off than it was when they took the oath of office. president trump has directed or has nominated people that the american people directed him to. these people are outsiders who have not spent decades of their time in washington, d.c. but have actually worked in the respective fields of these agencies they'll be leading and have great experience. it is okay. we expect that these individuals left on the docket will get through and all of president trump's nominees will be confirmed and will be part of the team to make america great again. >> harris: you are here with me as we are stepped away for more history being made. we're ten votes away, my count for the full senate voting on rfk, jr. for the hhs secretary. mitch mcconnell may be the lone
8:13 am
republican and it may not matter. thank you, great to have you in "focus." a wild scene at a city council meeting in massachusetts. >> as a loud and proud queer artist in the city and drag parent and history is repeating itself. >> i speak as the b and t. >> i need this city to protect me because the federal government won't. >> harris: far left activists hijacked the meeting demanding that the city become a trans sanctuary. we'll get into it. plus legal victories for the department of government efficiency or doge. the trump administration moving full speed ahead to slash the waste. democrats are keeping up the fight. and it is getting a bit weirder. well, what is it working on exactly, that resistance? what are they trying to do?

>> harris: president trump on the department of government efficiency scored two court victories in one day. one ruled the federal employee buy-out offer can continue. another court clarified the trump administration can limit access to certain federal funds under certain conditions. here is the president. >> president trump: i want to commend elon because he has done a -- he doesn't need this. he is abused by you people every day. he has found more things than anybody could find. he has the credibility to do it. i know he does. >> harris: doge has canceled billions of dollars in contracts deemed wasteful and the president hinted he may reveal

names and entities involved in alleged abuse of taxpayer money as early as today. he is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. news conference. democrats have spent weeks raging over efforts to cut government spending. >> i'm trying to figure out exact will i what it is the republicans believe our job is because right now they have relinquished their constitutional duties. >> this is not a partisan issue. but improving our lives and congress's constitutional authority over federal spending. >> the administration seems intent on dismantling much of the federal government in violation of the constitution. >> donald trump and elon musk are making a mockery out of the constitutional authority. >> no matter how many executive orders that donald trump signs or how many tweets the v.p. sends, you cannot rewrite the constitution. >> harris: did you catch that congresswoman crockett saying democrats do not understand the

assignment? that's technically what she said. we're there. rfk, jr. has been confirmed by the full senate as the hhs secretary. we're watching on the right side of our screen and we have moved into that position now with another cabinet member in place for president trump. and senior correspondent on congress chad pergram is with me now. chad, a couple minutes before i saw you last time. it went quickly. >> sometimes the waiting is the hardest part. they sat on 50 votes for quite a while. we didn't think there would be a problem confirming rfk, jr. as the secretary of health and human services, rick scott from florida came in and voted yes and that pushed it over the edge. immediately after him peter welch. democratic senator from vermont voted no. a party line vote except for mitch mcconnell. he voted no. he was also the only nay

yesterday on the director of national intelligence tulsi gabbard. interesting with mcconnell he voted to break a filibuster on both nominees. sometimes you have a senator say let's get to the end of this process. i oppose the issue, the bill, the nominee, but i won't hold it up. sometimes they will try to hold it up as much as they can. mitch mcconnell did not have the votes on his side. waiting to see if there is a statement from mitch mcconnell. when he puts out statements in favor of the nominees he supports that he does so in a full throated fashion saying it is my pleasure to support so and so. but he had some grievances with pete hegseth, defense secretary and tulsi gabbard and he has not held back when he has indicated why he voted against them. mitch mcconnell suffered from polio as a child and had reservations about this nominee because of his past statements on vaccines. once they get through this
8:23 am
confirmation they aren't done yet. brooke rollins is up for agriculture secretary. she will get bipartisan support. as you mentioned just a few minutes ago kash patel up for f.b.i. director, his nomination is moved out of committee and put him on the floor next week. that will be filibustered by the democrats but the republicans will probably confirm him toward the end of next week. >> harris: we said this yesterday about tulsi gabbard. things are ending up to be exactly what the president was looking for with the exception of a short period for matt gaetz who, you know, fell away from this process. what's interesting is the vice president, jd vance, has been out of the country for the last couple of these meaning they didn't need a tiebreak by the president of the senate or the vice president as we know it. that's fascinating. >> also consider how rare that is to have a vice president be necessary to break a tie on a
8:24 am
nomination for the cabinet. we have had them for lower tier persons. that had never happened before until it was the confirmation vote of betsy devos in 2017 and vice president pence came and broke that tie. vance had to be here to break the tie for pete hegseth a few weeks ago. they didn't think -- otherwise he would have been here. >> harris: all right. chad pergram on the breaking news on capitol hill. we have a new secretary of hhs, thank you very much for the reporting. let's immediately get some reaction now. republican senator joni ernst of iowa chair and founder of the senate doge caucus and chair of the senate small business committee and member of the senate armed services committee and a serving member of our military and we thank her for her service. first of all, your reaction to rfk, jr. >> congratulations, secretary kennedy. i am very excited. in my meeting with him he expressed an interest to work with me on issues of juvenile
8:25 am
diabetes, cancer, autism. issues facing american families today. asme owe ready to help him make am healthy again. congratulations. >> we'll know what the first missions are going ahead. i had karoline leavitt out of the white house tell me that the minute that this happens. this must be happening right now, the president will sign an executive order to establish a make america healthy again commission. so simultaneously almost with okay, the vote is over. now let's get this done. the next news being made right now. senator, let's talk about doge. democrats are losing their minds over this. can we watch something together? i will ask my team. they put something together. let's watch it. >> we had a montage of reactions on doge. let's move forward.
8:26 am
what are the politics around this irrespective of what the american public say they want? >> right, thank you so much. i can tell you probably what that montage was, democrats losing their minds over efforts to audit the federal government and make sure that their taxpayer dollars are being spent wisely and furthering american interests. for far too long we have seen many of these agencies shift further and further and further to the left and they have tried to obscure what they are spending their money on. usaid, i have spent years trying to uncover the spending in usaid and they obstructed my efforts. we had to start a formal congressional investigation on usaid. i have been engaged in my squeal efforts for a decade now
8:27 am
uncovering waste in our federal government. i am thankful that the president and elon musk have taken this to task and will hold these agencies accountable. >> harris: you might have an acronym for squeal but perfect in the way you have to shout above the crowd. it is baked in. so opaque where some of the money not just usaid, there are great programs that they have and i'm thinking that those will be retained. we'll be watching it closely. >> right. >> meanwhile there is money that we didn't even know was going out the door and where it was going. >> well, exactly. i really started pressing usaid hard when it came to ukraine and the humanitarian aid that we were supposedly sending to ukraine. so things like humanitarian aid when you asked usaid it equated to sending ukrainians to paris fashion week. i'm sorry, that's not
8:28 am
humanitarian aid and didn't benefit the people of ukraine. so there are a lot of things that we have spent hard earned taxpayer dollars on that really don't amount to american interests. and so we've got to rein that back in. i have had a number of bills, pieces of legislative action that i have tried in past years, finally again through doge, the department of government efficiency with elon musk, we actually have an outlet in order to get things done for the federal government and our taxpayers. >> harris: you know, two things. the money going to terrorists has been part of the breakdown. what can you tell us? >> absolutely. so americans have the best of intentions. give the example of afghanistan. we know that people are starving in afghanistan. usaid, other organizations will push out try to fund human tear efforts to feed women and
8:29 am
children in afghanistan. the taliban will take their portion of that fees associated with handing out food. it just goes to fund the terrorist elements. the food is not getting to those in need. >> harris: wow, yeah. their fee, the taliban's fee, wow. senator, thank you so very much. a big day on doge. we'll keep talking about it. you mentioned elon musk. we'll go forward. good to see you. >> thanks, harris. >> harris: the president and his doge agenda as i was saying really has democrats up in arms. you heard senator ernst talking about it there. so what is it? is it because it was so opaque before that now there is accountability built in and you can follow the money? is that the problem? >> elon, come here and face us. we are not afraid [bleep]. >> donald trump and elon musk. >> you get your hands off our

about the bill. they want men to play in women's sports. >> harris: remember at the all women town hall in georgia close to the election. that's exact will i what he said he would do and he did it. maine is also defying the order. the state's primary governing body for high school sports says the order conflicts with the state's human rights act and continue to follow state law. in "focus" now jason rantz, seattle radio host and opinioned -- editing writer. >> we've been hearing constitutional crisis being thrown around. executive order being ignored by states no constitutional crisis whatsoever. everything is on the up and up. consequences exist when you are going to ignore federal anti-discrimination laws. that's what this is about. these are folks who are choosing to discriminate against biological females, generations of which fought for these rights

for access, for opportunities. you have the united nations study about 900 medals for females going to transgender athletes. there are consequences for this. rather than having a meaningful conversation what can we do to accommodate like having a different league that's open to all genders, they are deciding to dig in. all this does is bring a larger spotlight to an issue that plays well for donald trump and republicans. we are on the right side of this according to all the polls. >> harris: we are seeing a trend from democrats right now. sometimes it happens when you try to find your footing against someone moving at lightning speed but they seem to want to prove they are right on issues rather than working with people to get to what's right for everybody. some of the solution finding you just mentioned. they don't seem to be interested in that. republicans in your home state, i understand, are outraged over this. i want to talk about what is happening in washington state. democrats are moving to repeal

that state's parents bill of rights which would exclude a provision mandating immediate notification to parents of any assaults of their children. this would allow information to be withheld for up to 48 hours and you've been covering this for months now. break it down. >> it's absolutely disgusting. last year an initiative put forward. voters wanted to have a parental bill of rights. democrats accepted it so it won't be voted on. this year they decided to rewrite it while pretending they are doing it for the safety of kids. no one seems to accept that this is actually about safety. when you are telling us and telling parents that the school can wait up to 48 hours if god forbid something were to happen to their kids on campus, that's absurd. they are saying this has everything to do with maintaining integrity of police investigations. this has nothing to do with investigations.
8:52 am
what i suspect it's about is maintaining some sort of publicity plan to walk it oh ute and explain it so people don't get upset. some of this is happening because of the incompetence of the schools. anyone would say we aren't going to immediately pick up the phone and tell a parent if god forbid their kid were sexually assaulted on campus? it's obscene. >> harris: it makes no sense, common or otherwise. massachusetts' second largest city is now a sanctuary for transgender people and the decision came following a chaotic city council meeting in worcester. we've been showing you parts of that. more than 200 far left members of the lgbtq community there took over the proceedings expressing their concerns for safety under the new trump administration. >> you say you are afraid of trump and why you don't want the city to be a safe space for trans people? you better prepare for trans

people to make this a very unsafe space. >> we will not cooperate with the federal government that seeks to erase and minimize and kill you. >> a loud and proud clear artist in the city and drag parent and who knows history is repeating itself. censorship and slashing of our rights is too familiar. >> i won't quietly go away. i will show up every single [bleep] week. >> harris: prepare for trans genders to make an unsafe space? what does that mean? it sounds like a threat. >> gender extremist, activitys on the extreme side have gotten to a place of either threatening violence or actually becoming violent. that just tells you where they stand mentally. these are the people who are democrats are listening to. anyone wonders why democrats are losing a lot of these battles is because of people like this. they are choosing to listen to
8:54 am
them. present formative politics and doesn't win arguments. all it confirms that the rest of the country is right on this issue. having some sanctuary status for trans, i don't know what that means. you still won't be able to completely ignore what the federal government is doing. no one is arguing -- they will try but ultimately i think they will lose. >> harris: biden ignored it. the bar is pretty low on that right now on the left side. >> for sure. they clearly don't have any respect. they will go ahead and judge shop or court shop to get a low jurisdiction court to make sweeping decisions that stop federal policy. ultimately that gets overturned. ultimately it will get to the supreme court. good news is right now we have enough justices on the supreme court who are reasonable on this. no one is arguing to erase transgender people. if that were the case they wouldn't have showed up to the meeting to begin with.

a lot of folks are narcissists and want to get extra credit and social currency claiming that their kids are transgender. this is absurd. we can have respectful conversations with one another. we can and we can all co-exist. but one group, their so-called rights do not trump everybody else's. >> harris: the hard part, the hard scratch part of all this is the children watching this who are questioning where they fit into this conversation, some of them, they are not even considered as people fight and threaten and doing all that. if they had younger people in mind they wouldn't behave like that. it is great to have you back on the program in "focus." appreciate you. >> thank you. >> harris: a lot of breaking news. a new secretary of when, hs. rfk, jr. and we have more votes coming up this afternoon and week. thank you for watching "the faulkner focus." "outnumbered" after the break. . those who tried me felt more energy in just two weeks!
