conversations? quick shannon, let me tell you what we heard this week. we heard president trump engage president putin of russia immediately engaged president zelenskyy and here's what both leaders had in common. both of them said and those back to back calls that only president trump could get them to the table but only president trump could drive peace. this notion that our european allies have not been engaged president trump also spoke with macron this week. we have a visit with prime minister of the united kingdom coming up. we had no less than our vice president, our secretary of state, secretary of defense, our secretary of treasury who is there personally. and our special envoy and kellogg all in europe this week. all engaging our allies. now, they may not like some of

the sequencing that is going on in these negotiations. but, i have to push back on any notion they are not being consulted. they absolutely are. at the end of the date this is going to be under president trump's leadership that we get this war to an end. shannon: there are talks about talks starting this week you were reportedly part of that team that's going to be in saudi arabia talking with the russians. there are questions about ukraine's role. here's what senator adam schiff at the present inability to even identify ukraine as an equal bargaining power after all of the blood ukraine has shed its a shocking strand of american value and interest president zelenskyy says he is not going to be bound by any deal that is negotiated between russia and the u.s. are the ukraine is going have a seat at the table for the stocks this week? >> what secretary besson or secretary of treasury was talking to zelenskyy about and then follow on with talks with

secretary rubio and the vice president was entering into a partnership with the united states. we are talking about growing the pie for the ukrainian economy and i cannot think of any better security guarantee than being co- invested with president trump, with the american people going forward and having those investments as a protection in and of itself. number two, the american people deserve to be recouped. deserve to have some type of payback for the billions they have invested in this war and then further i cannot think of anything that would make the american people more comfortable with future investments than if we were able to be in a partnership and have the american people made a hole i will point out much of the european aid is actually in the form of a loan. that is repaid it's repaid withh interest on russian assets.

president trump is rethinking the entire dynamic care. that is some people uncomfortable. but i think zelenskyy would be very wise to enter into this agreement with the united states. there is no better way to secure them going forward. and further, there was a question whether putin would come to the table. he has now done so under president trump's leadership. we are going to continue the stocks in the coming weeks of president trump's direction. shannon: given the cost of the ukrainian people are paid why would they not have a direct seat at the table especially with zelenskyy says whatever you come up but they're not going to field bound by atlas air actuaunless they'reactually par? >> look the ukrainian people have fought valiantly. they have seen entire cities destroyed. the united states and europe has supported this effort but the united states unquestionably has borne the brunt of that support over the years.

but now president trump declares it needs to come to an end. there are key tenants that will drive these negotiations. number one it has to be a permanent into the war not a temporary end of the war. number two this cannot be ended on the battlefield this is turned into world war one style meatgrinder of human beings. number three i talked about how the structure of our aid has to change. and number four we are trying what economic integration going forward as the best arbiter of peace. all of those things are key underpinnings and in terms of long-term military security guarantees those have to beat european outlet in i have to tell you when a third of nato members are still not contributed a third are still not contributing the minimum they all committed to a decade ago, i think that leaves a lot of americans questioning the

i do not care about that. policy is real trouble i'm all for government efficiency proven as governor, virginia was the best managed state in america. but, when you come in the first thing you do is you fire the inspector general's, those are the people whose job it is to find waste, fraud and abuse you fire them you send the message that efficiency is not the goal. doing things to benefit yourself as a goal. shannon: you think that all those cuts are sending a message that efficiency is the goal? i mean doge us up and running website. they got twitter feeds showing exact contracts, exacting their finding. a lot of american people are surprised by their tax dollars are going to some of these. >> a message in virginia, shannon, is the efficiency is the goal here is a message they are waging a war on veterans. they're going wil willy-nilly at layoffs at the va. since 30% of the federal workforce is a veteran and virginia is a veteran heavy state, that is the way it feels at home cutting research. cutting health clinics.

heading head start programs. the inspector general firing, the message out of the gate is this is a group of people who want to pad their own pocket. they're going to cut things to try to amass a lot of dollars they're then going to use you tax cuts for the wealthiest. and that is the playbook was on the first trump term and think you're seeing it again i want to redo the words newly elected president, the people demanded deserve a government on their side. they do not want to government that wastes money, and government that cost more in does less they voted for change they won eight literal revolution and the way the government operates and now you and i must deliver. that was bill clinton in 1993 talking to his cabinet. one of the first thing thing tol that was a reduction of 100,000 federal employees. he went way beyond that in his eight years. >> you know what he did? he worked with congress to do it. donald trump has two republican houses. and he's got a budget discussion that has to have a resolution by march 14. what is and he get the republican leaders down on the white house and saying here's what we're going to do?

the government. you have said in the past shutdowns are not good for the american people you have talked about virginia. talked about military families that are big part of the commonwealth. you said this inflicts unnecessary harm and federal employees, government contractors and millions of americans who rely on government services. so, should a shut down this time around and the republicans are in control, should it be a threat should you guys be using it? >> i never use it as if they do not like the fact donald trump is shutting down government as we speak. he says i want to shut down the department of education. shrink that usaid staffed under 250 people paid that is shipped out and authorize congress and against the law but do not like that. do not think we should be contemplating shut down. look, the republicans as you pointed out have all three levers at the white house, they have both houses per they've got to figure out a budget deal but we could have done one last year. after the november election they said let's wait until 2025 and we have all of the levers will do a budget deal ourselves but so far you can see there's a lot of confusion between the house

this is going back tax cuts that benefit people who do not really need the help is much as some of your other constituents really do. cooks well, what we have seen since president trump took office are the democrats running around like a chicken little saying the sky is falling and they are filing a lawsuit after lawsuit because they want the border to remain open. they won two boys playing in girl sports. and they want to spend money on things that people think are ridiculous these transgender comic books, operas, surgery in foreign countries, all these things are wrong for any time president trump does anything they call a constitutional crisis. look, that swamp talk. president trump ran to drain the swamp that is what he's doing pretty want to keep money and the american people's pockets. he knows that as a way to keep prices down to fight inflation that is what he is committed to do that is all republicans are committed to do. and you pointed out, shannon, the democrats have now been screaming shut down the

government. not because they want to help the american people. not because they want to help our men and women in uniform or our veterans they want to do it to obstruct president trump. shannon: art center, what about what senator kaine pointed out worries up va clinics, head start programs and food and assistance. if there is so much slashing going on he has real concerns is being done in a rather indiscriminate manner but that is hurting american people. >> i think what we have seen from the doge is there is massive waste and fraud in government spending. we need to make sure the money is spent wisely. we have seen it has been spent indiscriminately government is too big it spends too much and when it does that, that drives up prices on american families. so, we need to cut through the ways that we see that the democrats continue to defend. we talk about research to cure cancer, liberal universities with billions of dollars of endowments, they get money at
