trump administration is looking to cut wasteful spending and downsize the government and it continues. welcome to a new hour of "america's newsroom," i'm dana perino. >> bill: happy president's day to you. >> dana: 43. >> bill: that's a fact. >> dana: i love george washington, the first george w. >> bill: lincoln and reagan. democrats struggle to try to keep up with the trump administration. doge sweeping through federal agencies with doge cutting out wasteful spending, fraud and abuse. latest moves doge is looking to tackle the i.r.s. with an audit and slashing the way wasteful green spending by the epa. >> dana: lee zeldin finding billions doled out for partisan pet projects and wants it back. >> we aren't talking about chump

change here but billions of your tax dollars. we at the epa and trump administration have zero tolerance for waste and abuse and we're coming down hard on this. >> dana: rnc chair michael whatley joining us in a moment. grady trimble with more on the epa and hillary vaughn live on capitol hill with how doge is going down there. >> well, the doge is auditing the auditors sizing up the i.r.s.'s budget and expenses like they do to americans every day. doge employee is reportedly seeking access to the integrated data retrieval system at the hires to give them visual access to taxpayer accounts. direct access is needed to identify fraud and fix it. i.r.s. will lay off thousands of probationary workers in the middle of tax season. cuts could happen as soon as next week. democrats continue to demonize what doge is doing. republicans are defending them. >> democrats are chasing their

tail right now. because all they can do is attack elon musk and these young folks. my dad was 20 or 21 years old when he took those off of dead japanese soldier he killed in combat to save this world, the greatest generation. all these so-called kids that we tend to demean are heroes. >> doge is finding billions of dollars in lost cash. government agency of housing and urban development found 1.9 billion misplaced under biden. doge announcing these funds were earmarked for the administration of financial services and no longer needed. 2 billion the treasury can use to other things. social security. there are more people with social security numbers than there are u.s. citizens, about 60 million more musk saying. far more eligible social security numbers than citizens in the u.s. the biggest fraud in history. democrats say doge is blowing all of their findings out of

proportion. >> these are by and large performtive the atic measures. they pick one off cases and say it is broad policy. what an entire department or agency represents. it is not true. they've just taken a hammer to it. they have fired people, furloughed people. chilled them. not doing their job and americans will die because of it. >> musk also found there are over 4 million people in the social security database who have an age over 140 years old. right now the oldest living person is 116 years old and they live in brazil. >> dana: supposedly they don't have a social security number. we'll check on that. thank you so much. >> bill: meanwhile epa administrator is lee zeldin on the job looking to make green spending cuts vowing to retrieve $20 billion in taxpayer money that former president biden earmarked for climate projects right before he left the oval office. grady trimble is live in d.c. on that. what did you find out?

>> the current epa says the previous administration parked roughly $20 billion in an outside financial institution that the plan was to dole out that money for green energy projects. current epa says the agreement with that bank must be immediately terminated and all of that money must be returned. trump epa officials allege the goal of the previous administration was to purposefully obligate all of that climate money in a quote rush job with reduced oversight. epa administrator lee zeldin is promising to stop it in its tracks. >> i don't know if you ever heard of the climate united fund that received $7 billion or the justice climate fund that received almost $1 billion. the coalition for green capital that received $5 billion. we aren't talking about chump change here. talking of billions of your tax dollars. >> zeldin has already canceled a-50 million grant for an organization called the climate

justice alliance for its pro-palestinian stance. the head of that group is lashing out at the trump administration and blaming the biden administration, too, saying quote, unfortunately the biden administration failed to process these obligated funds intended to help communities facing disasters from climate change and left the decision in the hands of the trump administration. despite claims this administration will protect clean water and clean air for the nation, it has attacked basic protections for neglected communities from day one. elon musk on the other hand is praising zeldin for doing an awesome job saving taxpayer dollars and for perspective going back to the 20 billion at the top. if you look at the median income in the united states, $20 billion is equivalent to the annual salaries of nearly half a million americans. this is a lot of money here. >> bill: no doubt. grady thanks. maybe we're just getting into it in the early days. grady trimble. fox business, washington.

>> dana: for more on this republican committee chairman whatley. democrats concede republicans running circles around them online as trump remakes washington. the democratic response to trump one texas lawmaker said is too slow and too tepid and not meeting the moment. do you think that you will get enough republicans to go along with all of these things even if it starts to hit some of their constituents like for example farmers who get some money from usaid or senators from southern states that might have health research money coming in? >> the president has a mandate right now from the american people to eliminate waste, fraud and abuse. when the president ran he said he was going to rein in inflationary spending. it is a critical component of it. the american people do not want to see their tax dollars wasted. they want to see accountability and strongly support what the president and elon musk are

doing with this effort through doge. >> bill: you just heard that sound bite there that americans are going to die. i don't know when or what area or what effect it might have on some people. how do you respond to that? >> look, the people who are screaming the most right now are the people who are affected by these cuts. these are all people who have been entitled to this money. they've been receiving this money. the fact is that the taxpayers, the voters of american have said no more. they need accountability and need the tax dollars going where they are supposed to go, where they are needed to go to be able to help this economy. so yes, we're seeing a number of folks on the democratic side of the aisle doing everything they can to defend the indefensible to try to make sure they will keep this spigot rolling and the fact is, the president has said we're not going to continue this type of wasteful spending. >> dana: are you surprised that

democrats have just been so confused thousand move forward? >> they have been trying to defend the indefensible. during the last election cycle joe biden was a bad messenger and kamala harris was a bad mess eve evening -- mess evening guerre. they support unlimited inflationary spent, open border. weak american. the fact is the the president and his team have been playing offense since day one because they are implementing an agenda they ran on and right now the american people are supporting it. >> bill: andy mccarthy thinks trump will win on a lot of these cases, if not all of them. when you get into the i.r.s. and the software going back to 1960 there can be modernization there and see how many democrats get on board. in the meantime the arrows will

without power. >> a lot of folks need help. over the weekend ten people are dead in kentucky and tennessee, hit so hard. storms striking southern u.s., strong winds, heavy rains, catastrophic flooding is just all over these images here now. a number of water rescues taking place. in tennessee, meanwhile, a levy failure along the river forcing rescues there. had about 100 million americans under weather alerts on sunday as that storm ripped across the country. some towns got more than seven inches of rain over the weekend. we'll keep an eye on that. >> dana: 325 hours, nearly two weeks wasted is how much time senate democrats have burned since president trump took office in january putting up roadblocks to showdown and delay confirmation of his cabinet. it is not working very well. chad pergram on capitol hill. hi. >> good morning.

that number of 325 hours says a lot about how much time democrats made the senate burn just to confirm president trump's nominees. some of the nominees were not even controversial like secretary of agriculture brooke rollins. they can't block the nominees but they can slow the process. >> democrats have stood up time and time again to some of these dangerous nominees like kash patel, like the people you see coming into the justice department. >> now get this, later this week democrats will mandate the senate take a procedural vote just to take another procedural vote to tee up a confirmation vote for f.b.i. director nominee kash patel. democrats believe he is unqualified for the job. >> we should vote down kash patel but i am greatly concerned that there are no republicans at this point expressing concerns about him or voting against him. he came out of the judiciary committee last week and is scheduled for a floor vote later

this week. we'll push the time as much as we can but eventually i think he will be confirmed. >> republicans scoff at these tactics as they barrel through the slate of nominees. >> what we've seen since president trump took office are the democrats running around like chicken little saying the sky is falling. any time president trump does anything they call it a constitutional crisis. that's swamp talk. >> the slowdown has not directly interfered with the pace of confirming nominees. the senate has confirmed 16 nominees. that's ahead of president trump's 2017 pace. a confirmation hearing for -- she may need help from democrats. some republicans believe she favors labor too much. >> dana: we'll pay attention to it. thank you for the update. >> the president is not allowed to say yeah, i don't like that and spend this money but not

times" huge piece came out venting at democrats and fearing trump liberal donors pull back cash. a quote. many remain frustrated the 1.5 billion frenzy of spending of kamala harris resulted in defeat. are they banging up the right wall here now trying to run to any judge they can find to stop trump? >> well, bill, i don't think i'm alone when i say most americans want our federal government to be run more effectively, more efficiently, and provide better value to americans. that's universal. i think i speak for most americans, democrats and republicans when i say that should be done transparently and should be done legally. we live in a culture in which both side use the courts to further their policy objectives or to push back or oppose. that's natural. but i'm part of the party of progress and am i a little disappointed seems we would rather be opponents than

participants and progressives? yes. so i think two things can be true as once and we're facing one of those. we knowed to reform our federal government and do so legally. everybody who is disappointed when she see shoplifters and smash and grabbers not going through our judicial system i think we should hold the government and others accountable the same way. if it's legal go for it. if not we need to be a nation of laws. if we lose that we'll be in deep trouble. >> bill: senator mark warner out of virginia is in your column now saying this. watch. >> i think the democrats brand is really bad. i think this was an election based on culture. the democrats kind of failure to connect on a cultural basis with a wide swath of americans is hugely problematic. i think the majority of the party realizes that the

ideological purity of some of the groups is a recipe for disaster and that the attack on over the top wokeism was a valid attack. >> bill: it seems in behind site he is probably right about that and voters felt the same way. >> indeed. i wish senator warner and others who have felt this way for a long time had raised their voices when it mattered, bill. we had an election in which too many of my colleagues were quiet and fearful of repercussions if they spoke the truth. here is where we find ourselves. now the opposition party that had a grand opportunity to still be a party with some sway in washington. that's how the cookie crumbles and part of the problem in washington, and around the country. we have to start liberating politicians to speak the truth. we need term limits to provide incentive to do so. no matter your politics we have to start recruiting and appealing to young americans to serve the public.

i would just ask that mr. musk and mr. trump as they pursue this policy of efficiency look at the pentagon, the 1 trillion we're spending, healthcare that we have 2/3 of american bankruptcies due to medical debt. look at the education system. we have to be a nation of progress and i wish my democratic colleagues and republican colleagues would work together to do better for all of us. neither party is doing it real well right now. >> bill: pentagon is in the crosshairs and department of education was there last week and moving on that. gallup poll. would you rather see the democratic party become more liberal or stay the same or more moderate. 45% say more moderate. when warner says wokeism is over the top he's right. >> you don't have to sacrifice your values to be pragmatic. the liberals need to start listening to americans not just

jewish family service san diego has been running a rapid response migrant shelter that offered care packages, food, legal services, travel coordination, medical screenings and immigration case management. fema records show they had been allocated $22 million last year. ngo says they received none of that money. jewish family service san diego points the finger at president trump saying in part quote with migrants no longer able to use the cbp one application the shelter has not received new families due to recent changes in federal funding and policy the shelter services will be paused until there is a better understanding of future community needs. the trump white house tells fox promises made, promises kept. president donald trump ended the app that facilitated the movement of illegal immigrants into our country. let's hope these empty shelters are used to take care of americans in need. one san diego county supervisor says the biden administration

its foreign ministry saying chynna will serve as a stabilizing factor and firmly act as a constructive force in a changing world. joining us now is arkansas senator tom cotton. new book is out tomorrow called "seven things you can't say about china." i love the cover. i love the book and love the length. you can get through it quickly. when i saw the chinese say that i thought about this. put up for everybody the seven things you can't say about china. number three, you say that china is waging an economic world war. how does that fit into this and what trump was saying? >> thanks for having me on. china has been wage than on economic world war addressed primarily against the united states for decades now. through a combination of rigging the game inside of china, subsidizing their own companies and dumping products in america, cornering the market on critical manufacturing around the world and also by attacking our companies with breathtaking

espionage through cyberattacks, spies, forced technology transfers. china has been waging a war against american businesses and workers for decades and used those ill gotten gains to underwrite the most rapid military build-up in the history of the world clearly directed against america. a couple of things that china has been doing that this designed not to create as they said a multi-polar world but a world in which china calls the shots and other nations have to dance to china's tune. seven things you can't say about china is a way to ring the alarm bell for normal americans that whatever they think about china and it's usually pretty negative, china is even worse and more dangerous than you can imagine. >> dana: one of the things you add is that china could win, number seven. a little bit alarming. there is also this. president trump talked about tiktok and possible deal that he thinks china might like.

watch. >> president trump: we have a lot of people interested in tiktok and i hope to be able to make a deal. it would be good. people have learned it's very popular and we'll have to probably get approval from china to do it. i think china will be interested. it is to their benefit, too. >> dana: how do you think it will work out keeping if mind you say at the end of your book several things you can do and one of them being talk to your kids about these apps. >> the law requires tiktok's parent company in china to sell and break ties with communist china entirely. tiktok is not just another social media app not like facebook or instagram or x. it's controlled by china. tiktok is a way they're coming for our kids. a lot of harmless content. cat videos or cooking

instruction but a lot not harmless. teaching teenage girls to hate their bodies or to have eating disorders, showing teenage boys graphic violence and encouraging kids that express sadness or depression to look at videos that are glamourizing suicide and used as chinese propaganda like we've seen with deep seek. it won't give you anything negative about communist china. in the end of the book seven things you can do. one is talk to your friends and family and especially kids and educate them about the threat china poses every day. it is not a distant or remote threat. they infiltrated our society and governments down to the local level and you can help educate your kids why tiktok is a serious threat to their mental well-being or to their futures. not just like any other platform. you can teach them they should think about china whenever they are going to the ballot box if they turned 18 not just for congress and president but for
