airport authorities the runway was drive. it sounds like it was approach and landing of the aircraft on the runway that led to this. >> carley: there are a string of incidents, including the two deadly horrific plane crashes that took place in washington, d.c. and philadelphia and last year the door plug blowout on the boeing plane. is it safe to fly right now? >> i think it would be a misstatement to say it is not safe to fly. it would also be a misstatement to say everything is peachy keen. mark twain said there are lies, damn lies and statistics. statistically it is the safest way to fly, since you mentioned

boeing and door blowout, that is area that foundation for aviation safety is very concerned about. when we look at manufacturing errors or design errors of a aircraft, that is something we should be concerned about and something we have our finger on the pulse of. this incident in toronto, one in d.c. and one in philadelphia, these are separate incidents, separate aircraft and separate circumstances and i don't think i see any systemic issues with those. there are certainly issues that the faa need to step up and start working harder toward correcting and those are as far as aviation foundation is concerned mostly with boeing and manufacturer of the max aircraft and since we have 1600 in service across the world, it is

definitely a concern. >> carley: when it comes to doge, two pieces of news involving the faa. they are downsizing the workforce and looking to update air traffic control computer systems, what do you think about that? >> i know that 400 people let go out of 45,000 at the faa and they are retaining all flight sensitive positions, that is a good thing. hiring more qualified air traffic controllers is certainly a good thing. we need to move toward doing more of that and updating the systems. we've been in this next-gen system now, initiative by faa to improve aviation safety world and have seen improvements. that needs to continue. in essence, what we've done is

made the system more capable, more robust to some degree, but we're still trying to put many more airplanes into the same air space everyday. we're not building new airports, some have new runways they are working on. every airport we go to, there is construction, generally new terminals and parking and all that. we need to look carefully at the system as a whole and work toward more air space. >> carley: good idea. before we let you go, we are out of time, i want to ask, knowing all you know, do you have peace of mind when you fly? >> i do. as a pilot, i understand the risks associated with flying. if we were meant to fly, we would have wings. it is not inherently dangerous,

it is unforgiving. yesterday is an example of that. we failed to put that airplane on the runway safely. >> carley: an image many wont forget. 80 passengers onboard. the airplane flipped over, everybody got out of the aircraft. miracle indeed. switching gears go to senior meteorologist janice dean for fox weather forecast. >> janice: they will do after action review to find out if winds were a factor. strong winds for northern plains and right now wind chills of negative 37 in duluth, that will move southward toward texas and gulf coast. here is the setup, dip in jet stream, extreme arctic air moving southward and that will continue over next couple days.

you time wise because your robotics club at school doesn't have a lot of money. had you to raise all the money and get all the supplies to create this. tell us about that. >> yeah. so a lot of the effort we do both in robotics and projects outside of that require us to go out in the community and get outreach, get people to donate money but, of course, no one is going to say no to a dog. so we did go around the community. go around the stores. and parents and teachers asking for donations. >> carley: wow, that's a great thing to do and i'm sure resume builder although that's not the reason you are doing it out of the kindness of your heart. amy, you are not sure but you believe that trila is 6 years old and lost one of her legs in an accident years ago maybe got hit by car. she has been at the animal shelter for a while because nobody wants to adopt her because of her physical challenges. so, how much will this new prosthetic leg help in getting

trila adopted? >> trila is a wonderful dog. such a sweet pitbull, she is an absolute darling. it's hard for individuals to sort of see past that extra effort that you have to put in for a dog with special needs. we here at the south hampton animal shelter foundation focus a lot on senior dogs and dogs with special needs. and having anything that sort of helps them along, right? whether it's medication or a prosthetic leg, something that helps the animal, you know, live a better life and makes it easier on an owner will certainly help with applications and adoption. >> carley: yeah. amy beth, i can only imagine that this prosthetic leg has improved trila's quality of life as well-being on all fours. >> she is very spry but she gets very tired quickly. and the leg is definitely

helping with her stability and her ability to be active a little longer that is nice. >> carley: that is great. sarah, not something most people have done in their life. how do you create a 3-d prosthetic leg for a pitbull? >> well, it's very important to take into account all their other joints, especially because if it's made wrong, if it's not measured right, it could cause wear on her other joints and discomfort. especially the base of the pros stick might irritate her kin. definitely a lot of trial and error. we did look at a science behind weight distribution works on dogs. just to make sure that it was the best for her. >> carley: amy beth those look at home and saying i can't stop staring at that adorable face i need that dog in my life. she is available for adoption. what sort of owner do you think would be best for her? >> she is a dog who probably wants to be the only dog in the

household. she likes her attention. she likes her humans a lot. you know, someone who can exercise her and have patience with the fact that she does need a little bit extra assistance. she needs to get her exercise to stay on the healthy weight side. you know, her impairment can, you know, sort of lead to weight gain because she can't be as active as the other dogs for a long periods of time. just someone who is going to love her the way we do. she is a wonderful, sweet dog. >> carley: she looks that way. she seems so sweet and docile. sarah, you are such a wonderful teenager for helping her out with such a bright future ahead. very smart. and we have a feeling that you are going to change the world when it comes to sciences and you are off to a great start. thank you so much for joining us.
