"fox & friends" starting with a fox news alert all eyes on the vatican as pope francis gives a public message as he battles a respiratory crisis. >> president trump take ation victory lap as he promises to clean up washington. >> globalist and deep state bureaucrats are being sent packing. rachel: white house press secretary caroline levitt gives behind scenes look of briefing room as she reveals her favorite part of working at the white house. third hour of fox and friends weekend starts right now. >> we take you right into a fox news alert we're continuing to keep an eye on pope francis, the vatican updates us on his health this morning saying he had a restful night regular mains in critical condition. >> stephany bennett is live from london with the latest. stephany.

>> good morning yeah i think everybody is taking things hour by hour at this point. the vatican releasing an alarming statement last night saying that his health had deteriorated saying his condition was described as critical. well they also said that pope was not out of danger he experienced an asthma like respiratory crisis of prolong intensity which required administration of high flow oxygen. they say he also needed blood transfusions because of a low platelet kowjt associated assoch anemia said he remains alert saying at the moment, though, prognosis remains guarded this morning vatican said he had a tranquil night and passed quietly as the pope rested. of course, he will not be leading sunday prayers for second week in a row instead prepared words to be read asking people to pray for him he also thanked doctors and health care workers. within the last hour on pope francis official x account he said, quote, i have recently received many messages of affection and i have been particularly struck by letters

and drawings of children and thank you for closeness and prayers i have received from around the world pope francis admitted back on february 14th diagnosed with pneumonia and both lungs along with bacterial viral and fungal infections on top his chronic bronchitis and doctors say at 8 years old he's a fragile patient. of course pope has a history of respiratory illness having lost part of one lung as a young man. and doctors have warned main threat right now would be the onset of sepsis but as of friday, they said there was no evidence of that. this morning at a mass in st. peters basilica archbishop they should make their prayers stronger and more intense tonight there will be a special mass. people, of course, around world are praying for a speedy recovery including argentina where pope francis was originally from. obvious question circulating right now whether he might resign in 2022 he wrote a resignation letter incase they impeded his duties but there's

no provision in law on what to do if the pope becomes inxat at a timed a further update of the pope will be coming later today for now all eyes are on that. back to you guys. >> thank you stephany thank you so much. so many people praying for the pope right now. >> praying for the pope also as she said -- hour by hour almost minute by minute. it looks eminent how cryptic the news from the vatican has been and this is as frank of a conversation about a pope's health that i've ever heard so i think preem really bracing themselves for what is to come. let's bring in our own shannon bream from fox news sunday to get her take on what she sees happening in rome and at the vatican. shannon: good morning guys i did think it was so sweet as stephany pointed out that tweet from his x act saying he loved

drawings and colorings from children and hopefully getting to him in the hospital getting him encouragement. i thought it was interesting until we started looking into this this morning there's non a plan if a pope is incapacitated but he left a letter saying he would be resigning from the post if he became medically incapable of continuing so there's provisions in mind he's thinking ahead. but we also know that this is something that just takes time and world kind of watches with baited breath for, you know, what the next update will be from hem. we know some of the remarks he left behind sips he's not making them this morning. did note the anniversary unprntsly of the russian invasion of ukraine tomorrow. and saying you know what sorrow he feels about that and what it means for humanity. still this morning, the vatican representing that he's very engaged on issues of the day and repray the best for him. >> shannon it is kind of interesting i can't they have

5:10 am
hey, to all of the bureaucrats -- you need to, you know, respond to the e-mail and let me know what you did last tbheek your job if you don't respond i'll take this as a resignation meanwhile kash patel just installed into -- his agency at the fbi sent out a follow-up e-mail saying, hey, hold on. we're going to assess all of this and there's probably some legal issues he needs to deal with, and so you're seeing -- , obviously, everybody onboard with this but a little bit of we've got to coordinate a little better. shannon: i think that's a good word to use coordination because agency heads are now we're told in this, you know,s reporting that does not name names but people, you know, who are speaking behind scenes say there's frustration here in washington. that there are people who are running these big agencies who are saying listen, i'm in here.
5:11 am
president nominated me i'm confirmed i'm about his business but when we do this and maybe we lose people that i would want to keep and it is killing morale in agencies like let's press the pause button let us do a analysis like kash patel director of the fbi is saying. they want to be supportive of elon musk. president is clearly supportive what did he say this weekend on true social he needs to get more aggressive that i think led to the e-mail that now federal workers are getting. but there are some concerns cloorly among democrats but even some republicans who say listen right now the republican is on your side they hear about these crazy use of taxpayer dollars that they're definitely not for. federal workers are not most sympathetic character out there but you'll turn the tide if you're not careful and lose some of that make the people more everyone thet sympathetic to carry out the president's agenda.
5:12 am
>> one of the most pass night storylines we're following, obviously, is the difference between today in terms of donald trump relationship with republicans on the hillerer versus his relationship with republican eight years ago during first administration, obviously, you always have that covered for us. and you've got a great show lined up for today. tell us a little bit about it. >> we do listen he's clearly calling the shots on capitol hill. this pretty much republicans are in line, and really about the president's agenda top of the list. okay so we have got two members of congress jim jordan republican jim hines ranking in the and talk about to them about foreign policy and the budget showdown which is coming. and, of course, a man you all may know and recognize now -- defense secretary pete hegseth listen, from the massive layoffs and dismissals reassignments to the pentagon there's a lot to

president in our lifetimes. i relish the opportunity to bring the truth and facts to the podium and unfortunately mainstream media has been blinded by this bias, this anti-trump bias. it is actually quite sad because rather than dealing with people who are truly interested in journalistic integrity and finding out the truth and facts they're coming into that room with a preconceived narrative and bias. the president speakings the truth he speaks his mind directly. what's my job to prepare and figure out what the truth is versus what the fake news narratives are, and then bring that to the podium. >> truly remarkable poise. maturity, and she can -- spits fire. when she's defending the president. >> she does it with a lot of class but just this sort of -- just seems not flustered at all. >> i have to admit i didn't have any expectation that she would be this remarkable i've worked
