tv   America Reports  FOX News  February 25, 2025 10:00am-11:00am PST

10:00 am
was harris faulkner day, it was everything i had not to cry. >> and you danced. [laughter] that was good. >> these are a big thing in louisiana. if there is something happening, there is a band. this is the second line band after i'd gotten the word and they are celebrating. then, the chairman of the university comes up. he throws down the gauntlet on the napkin. what i needed were my cohosts. i need you guys to dance with me. that rotc, you went through a program. >> i would love to learn more. what did you hear from them? >> these are our future leaders, not just in the military but in our society. they are ready to meet the challenge of whatever recruitment they need in the country right now for a military. >> your father is proud. >> thank you. thanks for watching. "america reports," now. >> this is not about making
10:01 am
government more efficient for working people. the republican plan is about making -- more efficient for corporations and billionaires. >> when we fight? >> we win! >> here is our message just biko johnson and president musk: enough is enough. >> the only reason they keep doing this as they want to distract you from the fact that they are stealing your taxpayer dollars. >> that tees up quite a white house press briefing expected to be in any moment, as elon musk's latest doge initiative is stirring up anger and frustration from the left, all of this as the agency stands firm and its push greater government accountability. here we go, and welcome. on sandra smith in new york. great to be with you, john. >> good to be with you. not questioning what we did last week. it is all recorded. >> fair enough.
10:02 am
>> if you want to check on the internet, take a look. i'm john roberts in washington. this is "america reports." the white house expected to face questions today on musk's push to require federal workers to list five compliments from the past week or jobs. it comes a saved americans an estimated $65 billion. >> all of this as president trump continues to work on a peace deal to end the war in ukraine. he's also in the midst of negotiating a multibillion-dollar rare earth minerals agreement with ukraine. trump says that an agreement could come as soon as this week. >> house foreign affairs committee chairman brian mast is coming up, but for us to our senior white house correspondent jacqui heinrich come alive inside the briefing room, where the action is about to get underway. >> any moment here, this -- i may have to leave if she comes to the door, but the confusion of this email came from elon musk's post about it. he said over the weekend that
10:03 am
anyone over the weekend wanted to respond, would be taken as a resignation. that did not appear in the email itself. just after this, cleaned up the messaging on that yesterday, clarifying that agencies have the final authority on what, if any, consequences people should face for not replying. sweet 16 posted to x "subject to the discretion of the president they will be given another chance. failure to respond a second time will result in termination. many -- termination." many white house officials declare that there are not other objectives and the is not at all confusing. >> one person we should be listening to his president trump, and what the american people mandated, which is what -- people need to be accountable. you need to be able to answer the question. if you couldn't answer it yesterday, you have until today. >> whether that deadline is real or applies to everyone is still unclear. meantime, the white house inching closer to striking this deal with ukraine to give access to rare earth minerals.
10:04 am
it doesn't come with security guarantees or military aid, but many of those are in areas that are under russian control, so we are awaiting detail on how the u.s. would get access there. today, pollutant push back on something the president said yesterday, claiming that russia had no problem with european peacekeeping troops coming to ukraine. we expect questions today on where the peace talks stand, where the mineral steel stands. you might give us an idea of why the president has hesitated to poke the bear, declining to refer to putin as a dictator yesterday or explain why the u.s. voted with russia against two u.n. resolutions. take a look at the strategy there and where things stand. >> no shortage of things to talk about today. jacqui heinrich. thank you, sandra. >> congressman brian mast, chairman of the house committee on foreign affairs. thank you for being here. fair warning, we will go to the briefing when it begins. this is the doge email to federal workers. what did
10:05 am
you -- "what did you do last week? please reply to the ml with approximately five bullets of what you accomplished last week and cc your manager. do not send classified information, links, or attachments. deadline is monday --" anything complicated about the message? how do you see this? >> it was not complicated. i heard from tsa workers as i was waiting in line. they said "i appreciated doing the email, enjoyed writing it. my last sentence was "i was at my shifts, i prevented a terrorist attack from occurring at palm beach international airport." they were taking a level of pride and a compass and what their mission was. >> but you know that this is not sitting well with democrats. you probably heard a lot of sound from them at the top of the hour. this is more from senator chris murphy, the democrat from connecticut, calling the doge efforts "akon."
10:06 am
>> this whole thing is a frog, -- >> this whole thing is a fraud, a con. from the beginning, the trump administration has been about one thing only: stealing from all of us, from regular people, from poor people, from the middle class in order to enrich their billionaire mar-a-lago kyle ball. >> here is even more. congressman chuck schumer, who says that americans do not like doge tactics. >> most americans do care about making government more efficient. while everyone certainly supports cutting waste, americans don't like the harmful chaos that elon musk and doge have unleashed. they don't want to see a rich billionaire treat federal workers with immense disrespect. >> to all the criticism, you say what? >> the con, the fleecing, the joke was on the american people. you have the federal government doing things like creating
10:07 am
diverse birdwatching groups for $200,000, or gender inclusivity, teaching that through ultimate frisbee for a couple hundred thousand dollars. i could give lists of these things. that was the fleecing of the american people. with democrats are fighting for is to not eliminate this waste, to not be accountable. they are fighting to keep the waste and lack of transparency. >> you have heard of it her there just a moment to go. here is more from that, the 11:00 eastern time our on the controversy surrounding what appears to be that very simple email. >> it is such a nonissue. think about the fact that we are having -- look at all of you standing here asking me why people are upset to answer to their boss, the american people, and presidents of the united states, what you have done at work. what a ridiculous thing. >> but not everybody thinks it's ridiculous. this is an msnbc analyst who says that those doge emails are
10:08 am
traumatizing federal workers. watch. >> primary level, i would argue, on which they are operating as a level of psychology, mental health, traumatizing people, striking fear into every employee who does not know if they are next, does not know what to do, can't focus on the kids when they are sitting with them at night, trying to read a book to them be, -- them, because in the back of the mind -- trying to justify their existence. >> likely, this is going to be a big topic when karoline leavitt comes to the press briefing room in just a moment. we will see what questions come her way, but why do you fathom that this is so difficult for some of these democrats and media analysts to take it? >> this has been part of the whole idea of snowflakes and the democrat approach that -- it's traumatizing to ask people to be accountable, traumatizing to acknowledge that there are x and
10:09 am
y chromosomes, male and females. it's traumatizing to speak the truth, or to acknowledge that some people are more efficient or less efficient. some people work harder to pick these onto traumatizing things to anybody in business. this is the real world, and they have been waiting for the federal government and president trump to bring this realization to the federal government. people need to all make sure they are carrying their own weight, and sometimes people don't, and sometimes they are dishonest about it. >> that being said, and hearing from both sides on this, your take: is doge working? is it successful so far? >> doge has been beyond successful. every american should be thanking president trump, thanking elon musk took the team they worked to put in place, and be begging them to go not just every federal agency but "please come to a hometown near me, start digging into my state government, my local government, my towns, by municipalities." who knows what you will find? we will l.b. moore efficient.
10:10 am
we will waste less dollars. this is the goal is to say "you are the american taxpayer, you deserve to get the money in your pocket, not have the government wasting it, sending it abroad on these $15 million in for the taliban who is our enemy. not wasting money on things like this," but you keep it. it's a work -- thanks to the president for doing it. >> always a pleasure when you join us. thank you so much. >> wish you the best. >> we will see. this is expected to be a big topic in the white house press briefing room when it begins. >> i'm told to expect a lot of news. we will bring it to you as soon as it gets underway. we are also following something that happened at midway airport in chicago. just getting video. we will be told when it is available. a near miss between a southwest aircraft and a small plane. as soon we get that video, we will put it up.
10:11 am
it's taking longer than we thought. meantime -- here comes the video now. go ahead and roll it. this near miss that happened at midway airport. study video showing the southwest airlines flight dodging a small plane as it crossed the runway, just as the larger aircraft was coming in for a landing. watch this here. look at that. oh, my goodness. talk about an incursion in the runway. i would imagine it's this small plane, somebody, is going to get a near full from air traffic controllers about that. watch. we will play it again as it comes in. watch this. >> it is our understanding -- this is obviously a commercial jet.
10:12 am
the southwest plane that was attempting to land in chicago's midway airport, southside of chicago. our understanding is that it was a private jet, but another near collision. in a string of fair play in, airport incidents, continues to bring into question airline safety, and a lot of demands for answers, why we are seeing yet another close call like this. >> that is a "well, you know much." moment. might -- that was near catastrophe. >> i just spoke with the spokesperson for the chicago airport and said she would not call this in your collision, but certainly from the camera angle, appears to be to be what it is. we are hearing from southwest airlines -- this flight which came in from omaha,
10:13 am
nebraska, -- they came in to make a landing and did a go around because as you can see, there was something in the runway. that is the flex jet that you see. 20504 ultimately landed safely. the crew performed a precautionary go around to avoid a possible conflict with another aircraft that enter the runway. the crew followed safety precautions, the flight landed without incident. "nothing is more important to southwest and the safety of our customers and employees." that's it. it seems like one of those things that happen in an instant. it looks like the crew became aware that there was something that could be obstructing the landing strip. they did what they had to do and did the go-round. you can see the flex jet crossing the runway at that moment. certainly, a harrowing situation. people on board the plane probably weren't aware of that much other than the fact that they were delayed, coming in for landing and didn't. they are probably -- learning the details right now.
10:14 am
>> they don't consider that to be a near miss, that plane was almost wheels down on the runway, and then it was nose up, full power on go around. if the plane had two touchdown and deploy the spoilers, that would have been it. >> i interpret it as a dismissive comment from that particular spokesperson. common sense, as you look at this video, that is a near collision. a very harrowing situation -- pardon me, a little under the weather -- and certainly a terrifying situation. the good news of course is that it looks like everybody will get off on both planes okay, and the question that is unanswered is what was that flex jet doing crossing the runway when another plane was inbound? >> the latest from washington. thank you very much. >> karoline leavitt is at the podium at the white house. >> secretary leavitt: president trump has promised
10:15 am
that -- and liberal pundits -- for it, but they were proven wrong once again. on the heels of president trump's oval office meeting with apple ceo tim cook last week, apple just announced its largest ever commitment to american jobs and industry. plans to spend and invest more than 500 million -- $500 billion in america over the next four years. of a course of the current trump administration, apple plans to hire around 20,000 new workers, creating high-paying jobs right here in america. the investment isn't limited to one specific region of our country. apple teams and facilities will expand all over our country: in arizona, california, iowa, nevada, north carolina, michigan, oregon, texas, washington. with president trump in charge, america is open for business. apple ceo tim cook said it best in the company's announcement: "we are bullish on the future of american innovation."
10:16 am
on top of this incredible apple announcement, president trump already announced more than $1 trillion in pledged investments into the united states. on another important note that the american people entrusted president trump to fulfill, this administration's efforts to seal the border continue to prove extraordinary successful. president trump's first month back in office alone, illegal border crossings hit lows not seen in decades, down 94% over the past year while interior arrests are up 134%. this is a statistic i want to share with all of you. 220 illegal border crossings on saturday. this is a 15 year low. think about that in comparison.
10:17 am
seeking families -- not seeking families that are seeking asylum or individuals since january 20 of. we all know what happened on january 20th. new york city mayor, the massive hotel shelter in manhattan will shut down in the next few months. we are also seeing a reverse migration affect. united states -- and heading back home. does the first time that they border patrol has received these reports since 2020. during president trump's first term. a significant decision for them to return to the countries of their origin. overall, the american people continue to overwhelmingly give president trump very positive remarks. nearly every one of president trump's policy initiatives are receiving strong majority support.
10:18 am
i've noted that in every briefing since inauguration day. 81% of americans support deporting illegal migrant criminals from our nation's interior. 6% of americans support the doge-led efforts of a full-scale investigation to find and eliminate fraud and waste in government expenditures. this is from a harvard-harris poll, a legitimate poster. 76% of americans support closing the border, 69% support president trump's common sense efforts to ban men from women's sports. as you know, we celebrant or that executive order of the white house a couple of weeks ago. 65% of americans support the president's efforts to eliminate all preferences by race in the hiring and awarding of government contracts which is another pledge doge is working hard to fulfill. 61% of americans, a majority, support the president's plan for reciprocal tariffs to ensure that other countries are
10:19 am
treating us the way we have always been treated. despite what many democrats and media members want you to believe, the trump agenda is not only necessary, but it is overwhelmingly popular. why? it's driven by common sense. finally, as you all saw yesterday, a federal judge denied the associated press' emergency motion for a temporary restraining order against myself, deputy chief of staff, and our chief of staff for our decision to remove the associated press from the white house press pool for certain and special events. the judge's ruling, upholding our decision to deny the associated press such privileged access, reinforces the truth and reiterates what i said from his podium last week when that suit was filed: asking the president of the united states questions in limited spaces such as the oval office and air force one is a privilege that unfortunately
10:20 am
has only been granted to a few. it is not a legal right for all. the trump administration has already proven to be the most transparent ever, and this president, the most accessible in history. this is evidenced by president trump's daily press conferences in the oval office, where he takes many questions from journalists who have the honor and privilege of standing before the beautiful resolute desk. the president and this entire white house are committed to ensuring the american people continue to receive this same level of historic transparency, access, and visibility. in fact, we want to double down and give even greater access to the american people. we want more outlets, new outlets to have a chance to take part in the press pool to cover this administration's unprecedented achievements up close, front and center. as you all know, for decades, a
10:21 am
group of d.c.-based journalists, the white house correspondents association, has long dictated which journalists get to ask questions of the president of the united states in these most intimate spaces. not anymore. i'm proud to announce that we are going to give the power back to the people who read your papers, who watch television shows and listen to your radio stations. moving forward, the white house press pool will be determined by the white house press team. legacy outlets who have participated in the press pool for decades will still be allowed to join, fear not, but we will also be offering the privilege to well deserving outlets who have never been allowed to share in this awesome responsibility. just like we added a new media seat in this briefing room, legacy media outlets who have been here for years will still participate in the pool, but new voices are going to be welcomed in as well. as part of these changes, we will continue the rotation amongst the five major television networks to ensure
10:22 am
the president's remarks are heard far and wide around this field. we will add additional streaming services that will reach different audiences than traditional cable and broadcast. this is the ever-changing landscape of the media in the united states today. we will continue to rotate a print pooler, who has the responsibility of quickly describing the president's remarks and disseminating them to the rest of the world. we will add outlets to the print pool rotation who have long been denied the privilege to partake in this experience but are committed to covering this white house -- and at other radio hosts who have been denied access, and local radio hosts to serve as the heartbeat for our country. will add additional outlets and reporters were well-suited to cover the news of the day and ask substantive questions of the president of the united states depending on the news he is making of a given day. this administration is shaking up washington in more ways than
10:23 am
one. this is what we are elected to do. it is beyond time that they white house press operation reflects the media habits of the american people in 2025, not 1925. a select group of dc-based journalists should no longer have a monopoly over the privilege of press access to service seat at this highly coveted table. deciding which outlets make up the limited press pool on a day-to-day basis, the white house will restore power to the american people who president trump was elected to serve. in that new seat we have shelby talcott, a white house reporter for mike -- in 2022, this launched as a global platform with the aim of bringing meaningful innovations to the news industry. today they have nearly 1 million newsletter subscribers spanning 11 separate additions.
10:24 am
with that, i will take your questions. >> i have two for you. one on foreign policy. over the weekend, the present special missions envoy was talking about venezuela. he said the president isn't someone who wants regime change. other administration officials have made clear that they don't -- as the rightful leader. what is this administration's policy on a new government in venezuela. >> i think the president has made his position on venezuela clear. he stands in opposition to that regime. secretary rubio has spoken on this extensively as well. >> on doge, last night elon musk said failure to respond a second time will result in termination. world are tom exomic -- a will additional ramps -- and what is the guidance on the federal workers who have been instructed by their agencies not to reply? >> couple of things on this. let's take a step back and take
10:25 am
a look at this. the -- since two elon musk, saying he loved everything he's doing and he wants him to be more aggressive because doge has proven incredibly successful in making our government more efficient. elon and doge came up with this idea. it has proven successful. it's a simple idea when you think about it. all the administration is asking, president trump is asking, is for federal workers to live off of the american taxpayers' dime to send the five bullet points for what they have done in the previous week. that's all we are asked for. they sent down additional guidance last night. those should be directed to agency leadership, and the president refers to his cabinet secretaries who he has always interested to pursue the guidance relative to their specific workforce. for some of the agencies who have -- "please don't send the emails," it's for the best
10:26 am
interest in their specific agency, and the president supports that, but let me be clear: the president, elon, or working as one unified team and implement in these common sense solutions. you are welcome. >> think it. one follow-up question. about the deadline. said that -- you have until tonight. elon musk so they feel are to respond a second time would result in termination. should federal workers be working to that guidance, or should they be looking to the agency -- what is the actual deadline? >> the agency heads will determine the best practices for their employees at their specific agencies. this was an idea that they came up with, and -- doge worked with them to implement the idea. this is true of the hirings and firings that taken place. we advise federal workers, unless your agency has dictated
10:27 am
you not to respond to this email -- i can announce that we've had more than 1 million workers who have chosen to participate in this very simple task of sending five bullet points to your direct supervisor or manager, cc and opm. i participated in myself. it took me about a minute and a half to do the things last week. i do five things in about 10 minutes. all federal workers should be working at the same pace president trump is working and moving. we have a country to save and we want us federal government to be responsive to the needs of the american people who reelected as president to have historic massive reform. that is what the intention of this idea is. >> elon musk also said that he reasoned that they wanted the email -- is to see if people are actually alive, stating some federal workers might not be alive. meantime, nbc is reporting that these responses will go into an ai generator to evaluate whether these jobs are necessary.
10:28 am
is it to see if people are working, or is it an effort to cut those jobs? >> i haven't seen that nbc news report and have not heard that from doge or elon himself. this is to ensure federal workers not ripping off american taxpayers, that they are showing up to the office, and that they are doing their jobs. that is what the american people expect, and it's a very simple task to complete. i was more than happy to do it. -- the american taxpayers' dime. >> herring spokesperson so that elon musk -- federal workers. >> are these not good enough for you? [laughter] >> think you. in the ruling by judge mcfadden yesterday who dismissed the lawsuit going against yourself -- the entire white house correspondents association along with it?
10:29 am
essentially, they have no authority, just usurped it. >> first of all, it's great to see you. you are one of those indiv individuals. hundreds of thousands of people tune in every day. i did address than the opening remarks, but they white house press team, this administration will determine who gets the joy of the privileged and limited access in this space, such as air force one, the oval office. as you know, look at this room, there are hundreds of journalists who show up to this building every day, are not going to the luxury of flying on air force one and asking the president of the united states question. we want to ensure everyone has a seat at that highly coveted table. the legacy media outlets who have been doing this for quite some time -- their spots will remain pure just like they have in this briefing room as well.
10:30 am
>> what are we doing today. >> of the more of an hour-long press conference that he gave you at the oval office himself, there has not been significant update since the president's remarks last night, but i will reiterate his position it is critical that this deal is signed. expect president zelenskyy to sign a deal. -- he expect president zelenskyy to sign a deal. this is to recoup funds given for their defense, and it is for the ukrainian people who have been put through hell through his work. and the ukrainian people because of this brutal war. >> his trip to the middle east so he can concentrate on this deal? >> i don't want to comment on his travel plans or read anything out, just for obvious reasons.
10:31 am
he is working on the president and -- >> the president's executive order -- who is the doge administrator? >> the president tasked elon musk with that effort. there are career officials who are helping to run doge on a date to date basis and officials who have been on board of his political appointees at every agency across the board to work alongside president trump's cabinet to identify waste, fraud, and abuse. >> first on the border wall. portable construction has restarted in texas and
10:32 am
california under contracts awarded on the transfers turn. how was he defining success with border wall construction in this administration? >> people laughed at him for bringing up this idea in 2016. it's not only a idea he delivered on in his first term and continues to in his second term, but it is also be highly effective. we know where the wall is built and standing under the administration. illegal border crossings drop 87% where there was a border wall. the wall is an incredible deterrent factor for illegal migrant caravans. the president is committed to the continuation of the construction of the wall. the previous administration actually sold off the resources that the trump administration secured to build the wall.
10:33 am
that is an egregious misuse of the taxpayers money. but with those resources rot on the southern border. they sold them for pennies on the dollar picked this administration, dhs, ice, customs and border patrol, tom homan, all the great people you know that are working on this effort. >> people who might be leaking -- within the administration. will the white house released the names of the individuals that the dhs secretary -- and can you share how many have been caught so far and what agency they were part of? >> i would do for you to dhs on the leakers that they have identified, but the white house commenced secretary noem for an investigation. it's unacceptable for career bureaucrats. if they don't want to adhere to the will of the 77 million
10:34 am
americans -- continue to leak information, especially with that which is critical, and i.c.e. agents that are out th there. not many people -- willing to put their lives on the line to protect national security, then those individuals should be fired. and the administration is committed to finding. >> questions related to guantanamo bay and the other to the white house correspondents' dinner. i wanted to get your response to "washington post" reporting of -- taken over guantanamo bay for the last two weeks. they were rarely led outside, shackled and placed in what they described as cages, and allege that they were not treated as human beings. does the white house have any response to those conditions? >> at guantanamo bay, it's a promise the president campaigned on, that if you invade our nation's borders, you break our country's laws and then further commit heinous, brutal crimes,
10:35 am
like raping and murdering innocent girls, and committing heinous acts of violence, you will be deported and may be held at guantanamo bay. these are criminals. don't forget about that. >> what is your message for americans who are concerned about the impact -- >> thank you for the question. it is obviously an important one. the president campaigned on reigniting the trump economy and fixing the mess created by the previous administration. we know that they created an economic and inflation nightmare for the american people. i'm not going to stand -- and i will not lie like my predecessor did about the state of the economy. we understand that there are people who are hurting. this administration is wholeheartedly committed so that those individuals see relief,
10:36 am
price productions, press regulations, their household and businesses, and the president and entire administration are focused on that everyday. i could go through the long list of economic actions this president has taken. i know you work for -- i know you work for bloomberg so i'm sure you are well aware of them. the president is hoping to bring down the cost of living crisis in this country that was created by the previous administration. speak i want to quickly follow-up. >> not aware of any calls. he has made it clear to the hilt what his priorities for the budget are. he set it to the speaker of the house, the senate and the house know what president trump wanted. they know what the american
10:37 am
people want. he expects congress to get it done. he is looking at the proposal from the house. he will also be looking at the proposal that i believe the senate is dropping off as well. sure. >> thank you. the states -- sorry. >> you can identify your question and i will come back to you. >> what guarantee that -- going through from lebanon after two weeks, as the cease-fire terms indicates? >> i am not sure about the guarantee that you are referring to. i can tell you that this administration remains very much engaged. we know the deadline for the phase one cease-fire is imminent. stephen clark, who i mentioned earlier, and the president's administration, his team, and the president himself remained engaged. we want to see the cease-fire
10:38 am
continued. to present remains clear that he wants to see the hostages who have been held in captivity in gaza returned home. >> is elon musk going to attend the president's first cabinet meeting to -- >> he is. i spoke to the present about that before coming here. considering that he is working alongside the president and are cabinet secretaries, this entire administration will be in attendance tomorrow to talk about doge's efforts, and how all of the cabinet secretaries are identifying waste, fraud, abuse at their respective agencies. we look forward to the meeting tomorrow. i think you'll be hearing from the president and his -- on this tomorrow. >> some work out of guard by the email. >> nobody was caught off guard. >> if in the department say they were. the fbi was, the doj was. >> did anonymous sources say that or to the cabinet secretaries say that he might speak of the cabinet secretary and others have said they were not aware this was happening. i am wondering, will there be a
10:39 am
give and take tomorrow the cabinet meeting? elon musk and the president, are they open to a dialogue? who is in charge of the chain of command of these orders? >> i reject the premise of your question. the cabinet secretaries have not set that. i know that anonymous secretaries -- leaked that, many of you in this room -- but as i said at the beginning of this press conference, everybody is working as one team and the president respects the decisions of the cabinet secretaries to tell the staff not to respond to that email, because they did so out of interest of national security and they do not want to risk confidential information. it's pretty common sense. >> has been doing a lot of work and every day -- on weekends. he has designated a special government employee, which means he can only work 130 days per year. is the white house expecting him to limit his work to 130 days, or will you work around those rules? do you want to see him extend
10:40 am
beyond that? >> today's fiber 25. we have been here about 35 days roughly. ask me and another 100 days. daniel. >> thank you. opening up with a major announcement from apple. $500 billion, 20,000 jobs. what does a signal that a global bands -- its largest ever spends commitment just a month into president trump's second term? what does not signal about his economic vision for the country? >> president trump is a dealmaker. he has restored confidence in business leaders around his entire world. apple is one of the largest companies on the planet. they employ hundreds of thousands of americans, but the president wants to see more americans employed, more investments in the united states of america. this is not a fulfillment of the president's campaign promises. i recall president trump at his rallies, on the campaign, telling the world "if and when i am elected, america is going to
10:41 am
be back. we want your investments to be driven on short. want you to hire american workers. you will have the lowest regulatory burden, tax cuts." the president has committed to slash and regulations, has pushed on congress to -- those tax cuts. people are encouraged by the president's -- as tim cook called it, they are bullish about american innovation because of the leadership of this president. it's a stark contrast to the leadership of the previous administration, joe biden, who i don't think spent time to recruit investments or jobs at home. >> we are hearing from republicans who are voicing concerns about how the cuts are being carried out. congressman mccormick, republican from georgia, tells us he is t -- that it's too rapid for people to adjust to, that it could come off as dispassionate and could risk undercutting the strong message that you are trying to send about cutting the need to government waste. >> i think that was one comment from one senator. i think as i cited in my opening
10:42 am
remarks, the most important people are the american people. and 77% of americans at home support a full investigation into the waste, fraud, abuse that the federal government has been spending the tax dollars on. that's the people the president cares about most. and that's why we are -- this budget. it should come as no secret to anybody. the president campaigned on doing this. >> the president said yesterday "if you don't respond to the email you will be fired or semifired." what does it mean that by this? >> i've been asked to answer this question three times now. >> i mean semifired. >> that's in the memo. he has trusted them to oversee their workforce, and it's why he nominated him to be cabinet secretaries. federal workers can be directed to their agency leadership. >> i wanted to ask about a federal judge yesterday, who was saying that they didn't know who the doge administrator was.
10:43 am
was asking the lawyer for the administration. km you tell us who the administrator -- >> again, i have been asked to answer this question. elon musk is overseeing doge. elon musk is a special government employee. i have been ask and answer that question as well. there are career officials at doge. there are political appointees at doge. i'm not going to reveal the name of that individual from this podium. i'm happy to follow up and provide that to you, but we have been incredibly transparent about the way doge is working. >> thank you. since your last briefing, there have been personnel moves announced by the president. one was the president replacing the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff. what was the reason for the president naming a replacement for general brown?
10:44 am
denton, i will follow-up with another another announcement. >> he thinks he is doing a bad job. it's time for a shake-up at the pentagon. they failed seven audits in a row. the trust and every night states amongst -- is low. the president is shaking up the pentagon and department of defense. with secretary hegseth leading. he has a right to do that. it's quite common for an administration to administration to do such a thing. >> the president of -- swore him in as a chief of staff through the air force. called him a great man and great gentleman. does he distance himself from those remarks? >> i think -- speaks for himself. >> one other. thank you. on the fbi, the president also announced a new deputy director of the fbi. from what has been reported, and maybe this is not accurate reporting, you can tell me. under fbi director, kash patel
10:45 am
informed of the republican senators that it would be an individual named as deputy who was a special agent currently at the fbi, and of course, this person is not. what was the reason for naming them to this position, and was mr. patel not correct in making that assurance? >> i'm not sure if anybody in this room has listens to them when he talks about the past corruption at the fbi, when he talks about his experience serving with united states secret service. this is a man who loves his country and has honorably served our country in ways many people have not. he understands the depth of the corruption at these institutions, which the american people reelected president trump to shake-up. i think it's quite despicable to see many networks in this room who have had chyron's on their television screens labeling them as a far right podcaster. he's not. he is a former law enforcement
10:46 am
agent. he is a former secret service agent. he put his life on the lines or protect this country. that's why the president of the united states has entrusted him for this important role. he is also an outsider to the washington swamp. we often see that one -- a lot of people in this city get nervous, and they should. they are focused on rooting out the corruption of these agencies and ending the weaponization of the government once and for all. james, i'm feeling generous. go ahead. [laughter] don't make me regret this. >> the richey ukraine talks -- they were performing a delicate dance. seeking his own remarks to try to bind president trump.
10:47 am
even specific language but the president has not committed to pick one of the most bracing comments was when he said that the deal president trump is negotiating with the russians must not -- a surrender for ukraine. all the things we have heard from president trump and administration officials talking about these negotiations have referred quite openly to concessions from ukraine that have to be made. the minerals deal, their nato ambitions and other elements. just a single concession that the russians should be prepared to make. i wonder if you can show us ata minimum that in this negotiation process will not be as one-sided as the europeans seem to think it is. president putin will also be made to engage in some concessions. >> i think the president knows how to make a deal.
10:48 am
in order to make a deal, you have to bring both sides to the table. i'm not going to outline the concessions the president and his team are engaging in discussion. these -- it would be unwise of me to impede them from this podium. the president has made significant improvements in ending this conflict. he has committed to seeing and end to the war. he wants to see the killing and bloodshed stop. he wants to stop seeing young men being killed and slaughtered. this has been going on for far too long. he is committed to fixing it. and he has made some of those concessions clear. i'm not going to get ahead of him. he is wholeheartedly committed to striking a peace deal. reshanda gray and in the middle east. thank you very much. good to see you. we will see you later.

>> all right, karoline leavitt wrapping her white house press briefing there, where doge obviously was top of mind for so many reporters. a lot of the questions were focused on exactly that. the press secretary was asked about whether she sent an email responding to the five things she did last week. she said it took her a minute and a half to send five bullet point email back to doge explaining how she spent her work week. elon musk will be attending president trump's first cabinet meeting tomorrow at the white house. that was asked, as it was anticipated he may do so. >> sean duffy did something similar to what karoline leavitt did a couple of days ago, where the put out on x5 things he did in the previous week. i don't think anybody is questioning that they are actually doing some work. i thought it was interesting yesterday that the president himself said a lot of this is just checking to see if there's someone on the other end of that email because we don't know for sure. will spring in fox news contributor and the editor of townhall.com, katie pavlich.
