11:06 am
foul play, but they are not ruling it out. hackman and his wife found dead in new mexico home by maintenance workers. >> sandra: jonathan, he has the latest from los angeles. we are getting they play some new details of the parent late conference that happened, jonathan. but the details seem to be slow to emerge making this more murky situation. speak of the santa fe county sheriff and this news conference was essentially clear as mud once again, sandra. what he said was according to local reports, local reporters at the news conference, "they are not ruling out foul play in the death of gene hackman and his wife, betsy." but there were no obvious signs of foul play. we also have received from the sheriff's department in santa fe the search warrant affidavit, which revealed that the bodies
11:07 am
of gene hackman and his wife were found in separate rooms. hackman was found in a mud room at the house. his wife was found in a bathroom. she apparently was lying next to a space heater and close to her was a prescription pill bottle and some scattered pills. a dog, one of the couple's dogs was also in the bathroom apparently lying in a closet and also deceased. another dog was found loose wandering around the property. the bodies were discovered on wednesday as we understand that by a couple of maintenance workers who regularly went to the property that said they had not seen the couple for around two weeks. that is when the sheriff's deputies went and they looking at the scene didn't find any obvious signs, they set up a gas leak or carbon monoxide leak. and they concluded that the scene itself was suspicious
11:08 am
enough, in their words, to warrant an investigation. that might be a statement of the obvious, sandra, if you walk into a house and you find the bodies of two people into coseparate rooms, you are going to think there needs to be an investigation. so when a sense, that is a statement of the obvious but the fact they used the word "suspicious" and now saying the words of the sheriff himself, they are not ruling out foul play all leads to all of these questions which it seems will be a little while to be honest. that investigation ongoing. but the bottom line, hollywood and the world, sandra, has lost a legendary actor and 95-year-old gene hackman, sandra. >> sandra: jonathan, i know you will stand pat and bring details as you get them, john. >> john: tmc, with some thoughts about all of this and reading through the affidavit year and a number of things obviously that looks suspicious
11:09 am
to the place. one was where betsy was found in the condition she was found in. the fact there was a dead dog in the closet in gene hackman in a completely different room. what do you know about what all of the says? >> you are exactly right or joe there were a few things to lead them to make that decision to get the affidavit and get the sh warrant for this. these are the reasons i can give you right now as we know at the very moment is that when they entered the house, the authorities first stumbled upon betsy. she was laying down inside the bathroom on her side. but they also noticed was there was a space heater next to her that had fallen down. but they are believing at the moment from what they see is that space heater had fallen down because she had fallen on it. just like you said, gene hackman was in a completely separate room of the house for joe he was actually in the kitchen and he
11:10 am
appeared in the same way that betsy did. there was deep opposition. there was signs of mummification on the bodies. it is unclear right now along these two were dead for. but what we know is there was a door that had been busted open, which is another sign that cause them to want to investigate this. we know a neighbor was concerned and walked up to the window. we got the 911 call on tmz.com. very distressed looking into the window but with all of these factors, like mention previously, this just gives a reason to investigate this much, much further because they are not going to rule out any signs of foul play. we know when the news conference they doubled down on that and said there was no obvious signs of foul play but everything i just said, including and i also forgot to mention, there was an orange pill bottle next to betsy's body scatter with pills all over the place.
11:11 am
with all of those facts laid on the table, we will find out a little bit more as we go along here. >> sandra: sandra here, what are we learning from 911 call tmz has been reporting on they have been able to obtain at least some of it at least that this was a caretaker who makes e of the house and couldn't get access but saw the bodies. surprising that so many days could pass where they were deceased, but no one was coming and going from the house. to learn that they had passed. what did you find out from them 9111 call? >> that is definitely the most interesting part. why nobody noticed for so long. we put on the website, we haven't actually seen betsy and jane out in public march 28, 2024. so we haven't seen them in a long, long time. it is unclear who is checking on gene hackman and who is checking on betsy and what kind of
11:12 am
contact with family and associates each coming day. what we know is the specific person on that 911 call was actually an associate of gene hackman's family. part of the team that apparently, again, we don't know the total detail, but we know the person, obviously, checks on gene hackman and betsy from time to time. in the 911 call, it it was distressing and the person did not go into the house. they were sitting outside of the home looking into the window. but they saw where the bodies laying there. like i said very distressing and you can tell a moment where they don't know what is going on. they are in a panic. and then 911 call constantly saying over and over again because so, so stressed out. and that is when authorities arrived and went in and got the search warrant in super suspicious after all of the things they sell appeared to but definitely a distressing theme. and authorities didn't reveal
11:13 am
any of this until after midnight last night and this happened yesterday afternoon. it is such a crazy scene here. >> john: what is very intriguing about all of this is this idea there seem to be evidence that both of them had fallen suddenly into different rooms at the house. what would cause someone to fall suddenly? it had been possibly by the family early in the investigation that perhaps some sort of carbon monoxide poisoning going on but that would not cause you to fall suddenly. you sort of go to sleep and never wake up. as well, the detective say in the affidavit they conducted testing to see if signs of possibly carbon monoxide leak or poisoning. of the fire did not locate signs of carbon monoxide poisoning and as of now, no evidence indicating there were problems associated with the pride in and around the residence. said the big question is, what caused it they did fall down
11:14 am
suddenly, which the affidavit and that detectives seem to suggest what caused them to do that in completely separate rooms of the house. >> i think the most intriguing part of that question is owed to the one thing i can think of is the dog that also passed in the home. we know there were two other healthy dogs being investigated and the dogs were totally healthy. there is one dog dead as well. that begs the question what exactly happened here. who knows? >> sandra: all right, thank you. >> john: thank you, appreciate it. we are following all of the breaking news out of this ministry and will be joined by forensic pathologist joe said scott morgan in just a bit so stay with us for that. >> sandra: a live look at the white house, president trump set to house a press conference with prime minister starmer and we expect that to begin soon and we will bring you they are when that happens plus this.
