watching. this is a fox news alert. the epstein files have been released. we're poring through all the documents right now. we will bring you the latest throughout the show. also, just moments ago. a federal judge in california, william al self, appointed by clinton, blocked the trump administration from ordering the firing of probationary government workers, ruling that the terminations could be illegal. more on this in moments with professor turley. but, first, it's time to put the pedal to the mental for doge. now, while the left is, of course, astro turning the so-called resistance to trump, based largely off manufactured stories of phony outrage over doge cuts, the president is keeping his foot on the gas. yesterday, he signed an eo, executive order directing all agencies to have a doge rep, a mini musk to keep the cuts coming. good. because, as musk explained yesterday, our government's out-of-control spending is the

real problem. >> we simply cannot sustain $2 trillion deficits just the dr. on the national debt now exceeds the defense department spending. we spent a lot on the defense department. but we're spending over a trillion dollars on interest. if this continues, the country will go -- become de facto bankrupt. it's not an optional thing. it is an essential thing. >> this is completely unacceptable the debt levels completely unsustain being. what we have done, which is tremendously staggering, we have normalized trillion dollars deficits for years now. and because we have fallen into this habit, our debt to g.d.p. ratio is a whopping 120% higher than it was during world war ii. but, as doge power grows, so do the attacks, including that lawfare we just mentioned. and now the left is coming after musk for being, wait, what? >> the guy was not born in this

new attack on elon musk. that sunny says he is an immigrant. is he an millimeter of the state. he was pro-appar advertise. and they -- essentially he has no right to be here. i guess they want to deport elon and keep the criminal i will lees here in the united states. >> i did not think it was possible for the democrats to even get worse messaging when they attack the cuts that usaid on the transgender operas in other countries. but now they want to attack elon while they drive his teslas. one of the things elon has cut is the subsidy to pay to buy teslas. he has hurt his own business to help the country. he has actually created things. every other leader in every other country would love to have elon in their country helping them bid missiles be able to go up to pace and come back.

this is amazing what he is doing. and instead of attacking elon, they should join with him. if they ever want to get back into the majority, they should join him instead of attacking him. a attacking immigrants? how is that going to help him? >> well, in what about the issue of the freeze on musk's contracts? they are pushing for that as well because, again, look, he is created enormous wealth not just for himself but millions of people around the world and opportunities and obviously incredible advances in technology they belief the democrats can't have any more federal dollars going to him because he is volunteering his time to cut spending in washington. follow that logic. >> do you know what that will do? all that would do is help china. before elon musk, we did not build a rocket engine in america. he went out and did it himself. so, we could go. we have astronauts stuck in space. we need elon to go get them. we have a disaster in america.

we need satellites. star link, that elon has created. elon creates something and helps the government in that process. he makes america stronger. and now they want to attack him? because he is actually who is he looking out for in the hardworking taxpayer. that should be their job as elected official. and they won't do it and he is volunteering to do it? he should be given a metal. >> laura: mr. speaker, we have other issues brewing on capitol hill with this fight over the budget. and the numbers are pretty ugly. i'm going to talk to jason smith in just a moment. but, republicans in my view, many of them, not all, but many of them pay lip service. they love doge. it's great. we are all for the cuts. but then when it comes time to crunch the numbers on capitol hill, we're still increasing spending so what is your message to republicans tonight. given the precipice that we are on and that -- and given the fact that the trump administration's future and the

midterms are also on the line here if this isn't done right? >> not just the future of the next election, it's the future of the next generation, the real driver of this money, you got to look at the mandatory spending, and you got -- look it, there is so much government has grown, especially after covid. and there has never been a cutback. this is a time to bring the accountability. go through every single program, eliminate duplications. and make those real decisions because i believe the american people are with you right now you will do better in the next election. >> laura: mr. speaker, great to see you. thank you so much. so we know that the trump administration is doing whatever it can to save money. cut waste, trim payrolls. wherever it can. but, as i have just mentioned to the speaker, there is still plenty of big spenders in congress. and their refusal to act a enact real cuts is going to cripple

the country of course, cripple the president's pledge to get federal spending under control. the interest on the debt alone is now spend on the entire defense budget. and look at the chart from the peterson foundation about where the interest payment are headed. of course over the next 10 years, the net interest payments are estimated to be a staggering $13.8 trillion. okay. this cannot go on. joining me now, congressman jason smith, chairman of the all-important house ways and means committee. congressman, 2k3wr5eu9 to see you as always, ro khanna one of your colleagues across the aisle tweeted the following. i'm curious how the -- about the budget, the house republicans passed last night, which adds 100 billion in defense spending, and 2.8 trillion to the deficit over 10 years how that aligns with elon musk's and doge's goals or secretary of defense's goal of 8% dod cut that he is

trying to hit a talking point it. actually cuts $2 trillion; however, the congressional budget office, this is the score keepers, that are brew cats are claiming just extending deficit. you know as well as i we do not have a revenue problem in this country. if you look at the average revenue that's come into the country over the last 50 years has been right at 17% of g.d.p. we have a spending problem. typically, our spending is right around 20% of g.d.p., but over the last five years, it is 26% of g.d.p. and what -- what they're saying about the budget resolution is trump's expiring tax provisions. he is not talking about the $2 trillion, laura, that we're cutting, the most congress has ever cut in the history of

america is $400 billion. to say be able to hit the 2 central a good step. we need to do better though. >> laura: congress, back in 2021, when biden risked exploghtd the deficit with all that spending and for long covid rules. i remember the "new york times" hang wringing about the economic risks that that posed. but the new york slimes hit trump today publishing this big piece on the risk to the u.s. economy that they say are posed by trump's spending cuts and the agency level and then his tariffs with one of the top economists at a apollo saying any increase in layoffs will push jobless claims higher in coming weeks and such a rise in the unemployment rate is likely to have consequences for interest rates, equity and credit. so your view on that? i mean, if we have layoffs, which we obviously are going to need layoffs, will that also hamper the progress that you all want to make here? >> i will tell you right now, president trump's leadership and

economic policy, whether it's tariffs that will bring more revenue into our country, to reduce the deficit or whether it's cutting spending, he has the right recipe. he proved it in his last term. he created the best economy in my lifetime and then biden followed him, created the worst economy. i would trust president trump any day. >> laura: but you think we can continue to spend what we're spending and increase the level of spending year over year like we're doing now? and keep paying this interest on the debt? >> absolutely, yeah. >> laura: but, again, how does this current budget, this iteration of the budget that you all passed last night, how does that really advance us toward the cuts that we need. seriously -- serious cuts, drastic cuts. >> yeah, laura, last night what we passed was not a budget. what we passed.

turn over everything in their possession. let me back up for just a second. the attorney general you will recall last night breaking news she promised we would get the epstein files today. while that turned out to be technically true. critics have argued tonight really hasn't lived up to the dramatic billing. we began the day with. >> with so-called epstein file folders. that began to fizzle just a bit because we didn't get a lot of new information. so once we saw that we wondered what about the attorney general? was she holding back? well, she actually wrote a letter, laura, to the fbi director, kash patel. suggesting that the fbi's new york office, which collected material from the sdny, that's the southern district of new york. seemed to be for lack of a better description. stonewalling, holding back key materials. now the fbi director obviously concerned about this director

law does it say that different approaches will be taken depending on whether you are straight or gay or white or black. and the justices were quite clear they did see it in the federal law. it does appear that the court is set to set this right. i think to get rid of that added task is going to not only simplify the matter for lower courts make it more equitable. that does not mean that this person. >> laura: wins on the merits. she can bring her case. when we say take her side. yeah, just to be clear. takes her side she can actually bring the case under a more equalized standard of discrimination. jonathan, we have to get you on this breaking news happened right before the show. federal judge in northern district of california william clinton nominee blocked the trump administration from ordering the firing of

probationary workers. writing that the opm office of personnel management doesn't have any authority whatsoever under any statute in the history of the universe to hire and fire employees at another agency. they can hire and fire their own employees. jonathan? can't wait to hear this. >> i think that's quite a reach for this judge, because, the office was not firing these workers. it was directing agencies to look at these workers and fire them according to guidelines. they are part of a unitary department, an executive branch that is headed by a president who has said that he wants this to happen. and so i think that the court may be slicing this a little too thin because the trump administration is saying that order was for agencies themselves to make these decisions, review these positions, and they also said it is clear, we want to down size the federal government and the

things and they live on base and they have to be able to afford things essentials buy them. >> laura: 21 years ago then army second lt. hegseth was shopping at a store just like that one when he deployed to gitmo with the new jersey national guard. >> laura: what is it like for you, in your 40's now, when you came down those stairs, from that government plane this time, what was that like? >> it is surreal no other way to put it. i kind of look in the faces of men and women. so young. i see my face from 20 years ago or the face of my guys that i was here with. i think about the anxieties, the uncertainty, the questions that we had, the things that were important to me then and that's why we always do lots of troop engagements with large groups and small groups and we ask any question whatever you want, what do you want to know. what are you thinking about? what are you feeling? i had a lot of those same

feelings i was here. i'm just proud. these men and women make us proud. this is a really important mission to the trump administration and get a chance to execute it. come back 20 years later is pretty cool. >> laura: during the day we had stationed at gitmo including the base's senior naval officers. >> laura: i'm here with my three new best friends who just wandered up to me. we were doing our reports here from guantanamo bay. what do people have to know about this place that they probably don't know because of this stories that dominate, which is 9/11 terrorists and the now the illegal immigrants who are removed out back to their home countries. >> families that live here, my kids live here, my kids go to school here. my wife is here. a lot of activities great. the kids seem to enjoy the safety of this place, ride their bikes wherever they want to, 1950s feel to it. i don't think people when they think of gitmo that that is

something that is actually going on. >> when you heard your deployment was going to be guantanamo bay, what did you think? >> i was excited, you know, even though we are in a remote installation, i would tell our war fighters, the most lethal navy that do have the same opportunities both professionally and personally other installations state side. the sky is the limit. >> young men, young women thinking about careers in the military, say it direct to the camera, what do you say? >> if you like this country, if you love this country, if you want to serve this country, come on down. we have lots of room for you. >> laura: interesting story about him. is that he actually was born in iran. i think his wife lives in ireland. fascinating life stories. we had a chance to talk about just the personal aspect of being deployed there. again, some people have their families there. but, many others are deployed and they are solo. and not easy but they loved it.

saying 95-year-old gene hackman, his wife and their dog were all found dead in his new mexico home. several maintenance workers discovered their bodies on the property yesterday and called 911. >> are they moving at all? >> no, they are not moving. it somebody out here really quick. >> reporter: deputies say his wife, betsy arakawa, was found on the bathroom floor near an open prescription bottle and scattered pills that were located on a countertop. deputies found hackman's body in an entryway near the kitchen area and their dog found dead in a bathroom closet about 10-15 feet away from hackman's wife. deputies say there were no signs of forced entry into the home and it did not appear as though anything was rummage through or taken from the property. authorities believe the circumstances around the couple's death is suspicious in nature are a number of reasons, including the fact that the maintenance workers who found their bodies said the front door to the house was open and unsecured. >> there was no immediate sign

of foul play. haven't ruled that out yet. this is an investigation so we are keeping everything on the table. >> reporter: also deputies say there were no immediate signs of blunt force trauma and the fire department did not locate signs of a carbon monoxide leak or poisoning but again authorities are just hours into this investigation, they are waiting on the result of the autopsy and toxicology reports. laura. >> laura: christina, thank you so much. running may now, forensic pathologist, fox news contributor. doctor, it's good to see you. initial autopsies found no external trauma? what should we look for here? >> i think we have to look at the toxicology because it appears it's could be both of them died by natural disease. they could be that they took pills, the bills that were scattered on the floor.

the toxicology will show that. but i think that the carbon monoxide possibility is greater, except that they did not find any evidence at the scene. but the toxicology report from the toxicology and autopsy will be more significant and more accurate. >> laura: why would they have pills scattered about the bodies if it was a carbon monoxide leak? that's what everyone initially thought, correct? >> because carbon monoxide, when it causes death it's odorless, colorless, it doesn't cause pain in the person just drops where the person is. the person does not go to a bed. it looks like she was holding that pill bottle in her hand when she collapsed. she may have swallowed some, that will be seen at toxicology, but the fact that 1 is in the
