>> you're right. the idea the president was elected. the moment he remembers the most in november is his own child entered into the faith. he talked about balancing that act of, you know, his wife is not a catholic. he is a convert to catholicism. he sort of walked through his own steps in catholicism not getting used to the idea we're obligated to go to church every sunday. but -- and i love that he talked about that unity, bringing us back to unity within all of us. if you are catholic and you are a conservative catholic, you understand exactly what he is talking about. there is a lot of differences but ultimately we're christians. >> ainsley: absolutely. god bless america. we'll watch you all this weekend. >> bill: thank you, ainsley, good morning and this is a significant day in the march to a potential peace deal in

ukraine. zelenskyy is in washington meeting with president trump. those two expected to sign a deal that could put ukraine on a path to ending this war and linking washington and kiev in a new relationship for years to come. good morning, everybody, on this friday. dana has the day off today. i'm bill hemmer live in new york. hello to my colleague in washing washington, d.c. >> aishah: i'm aishah hosni in for dana today. the deal would see ukraine hand over some natural resources as a payback for u.s. military aid. the pentagon says the u.s. has spent more than $65 billion helping ukraine defend itself from russia. president trump calls this deal a really important step towards ending the three-year long war. >> president trump: we'll be signing a very important agreement for both sides because it is going to get us into that country. we'll be working there and have
6:02 am
a lot of people working there and so in that sense it is very good. it's a back stop, you could say. i don't think anybody will play around if we are there with a lot of workers having to do with rare earths and other things, which we need for our country. and we appreciate it very much. i look forward to seeing him. >> aishah: let's get the latest from the white house from lucas tomlinson. >> ukrainian zelenskyy arrives at the white house in two hours. he is the third world leader to visit with president trump at the white house this week. yesterday alongside britain's prime minister, president trump says he trusts russi president vladimir putin to end this war. >> president trump: i think he will keep his word. i think -- i've spoken to him and known him for a long time now. france wants to be there. the president has said he wants to have soldiers there. i don't think we'll be necessary. i don't think there will be any

problem with keeping the deal with the security. >> the mineral rights deal expected to be signed includes a joint venture between the u.s. and ukraine to extract minerals out of the ground. the united states will be given a 50% share. the u.k. signaled a willingness to send peacekeeping forces to ukraine the russian diplomat says it is a non-starter. britain's prime minister said the u.k. will spend more in defense but all of europe must ramp up defense spending to send a message to putin. >> the deal must be a lasting deal. it has to be something that endures. for that to happen, there needs to be a real sense from putin that he can't breach that deal. that's why i've said on a number of occasions i think that the european countries, including the united kingdom, need to play a full part in that. >> nato secretary general says russia makes more weapons and ammunition in three months than
6:04 am
the entire nato alliance makes in a year. aishah. >> aishah: lucas tomlinson, thank you. >> bill: byron donalds, want to get your thoughts on ukraine. seth moulton, democrat from massachusetts says trump is going about this entirely wrong way. here is his view on that. watch here. >> imagine if someone came and burned down your house and they caught that person and said no, you won't pay for it. you will pay for rebuilding your house. some other guy burned it down. that's what trump is doing when he is extracting this mineral deal out of ukraine. it is immoral, unpatriotic and unamerican. without security guarantees, get ready, eastern europe. you'll be next. >> bill: he is paving the road for world war iii. he said a lot. what do you think about it? >> what he said was ridiculous.
6:05 am
the united states has been in there to support ukraine in this war. we spent more than 200 billion doing it. we didn't burn down the ukrainian house. that's what the war did with russia. all we're saying is we need to be paid back for us assisting you and maintaining as much of your country as possible. this war needs to come in an end. furthermore if seth moulton and democrats are doing such a great job why does it take donald trump to bring the conflict to a close? nobody believed joe biden was strong enough to negotiate a deal between putin and zelenskyy and democrats didn't do anything to say that american has a fiscal responsibility to its sits stens and united states first and foremost. president trump is keeping his word on bringing this conflict to a close. that's what he said he would do and he is doing it. then also making sure that the american taxpayer is being repaid for the treasure that we
6:06 am
spent in support of ukraine. that's a good thing for the united states. by the way, it's also sending a strong message to the europeans it is now time for them to step up and do more to defend their sovereignty and their national interests in europe. >> bill: scott bessent, treasury secretary, says the deal is done. we'll see and hear from both men big press conference today at 1:00. we'll carry that live today. another topic on doge. 65 billion is the number we've been given. "politico" said doge is raising the potential for a government shutdown. what is your view on that? is that where we're headed? >> if that happens, that's because the democrats do not want to do the necessary work of getting waste and inefficiency out of our government. let's think about this for a moment. you have hakeem jeffries, chuck charm and democrat members of the senate and house saying if there are doge cuts that we now know of ridiculous spending
6:07 am
items not in the national interest they'll shut down the government? listen, if that's what they want to do, republicans need to move forward and support the doge and have those cuts. we're not going to be held hostage by democrats wanting to protect their pet projects that are ideologically driven that do not support the american people or the interests of our nation. last thing i would say to the democrats who are saber rattling threatening a shutdown. donald trump is president of the united states. he has a political mandate. he has an agenda that he ran on. now if the democrats want to defy the will of the people to protect their pet projects they will realize quickly that they won't have anybody on the republican side of the aisle that will work with them just to keep the government open. we have to get the waste out. we'll be committed to do that. we should follow those doge cuts and make sure they are in the spending deal coming up in a couple of weeks. >> bill: maybe the hottest story in washington, d.c. right now. your political future has you running for governor in florida.
6:08 am
i will try to ask the question a different way here. do you have expect republican competition in that primary for that job? >> i do. i would love for things to be easy but nothing is ever easy especially in politics or life. it is very early. we'll see what happens. i'm just happy to have the support of president trump. glad to have his endorsement and his faith in me. my job now is going to the people of florida not just earning their vote but earning their endorsement. i will work hard at that while also making sure we get the president's agenda done on capitol hill. >> bill: desantis thinks his wife would be good for the job, too. it will be interesting. bret will sit down with president zelenskyy tonight at 6:00 eastern time right here. you will only see it on the fox news channel. check out bret tonight on

we have just confirmed that president donald trump will sign an executive order that will make english the official language of the united states. in our nearly 250 year history we've never had an official language ever. the executive order expected to be signed sometime today. bill clinton made a move back in the 90s. the mandate that he signed will be rescinded. in other words, what he did in the 1990s is that he did not require agencies that worked for the government to provide english only. they had to provide more options for those who needed different languages upon which they spoke. donald trump is going to change that. we'll see whether or not he sends it to the hill, congress, maker speaker johnson or john thune jumps on it to sign it into law. many times they said if you don't codify it, it doesn't last. today the executive order should come down from the oval office.
