them. >> ainsley: he does. second hour of "fox & friends" starts right now. ♪ >> ainsley: and we begin with a fox weather alert. a state of emergency down in the carolinas as severe wildfires are burning through more than 4200 acres in south carolina, not too far from myrtle beach. >> lawrence: when gusts of 40 miles per hour are fueling the spread of flames in some areas. more than 100 fires reported over the weekend. evacuation orders underway. >> brian: senior meteorologist janice dean has all our fox weather. janice? >> janice: here we go. here is the fire danger for parts of the southeast and the carolinas through today. and we had over 100 wildfires burning over the weekend. firefighters have gotten a handle on that. we have three big wildfires right now in parts of north carolina that are currently burning. and the winds are still going to be impacting this region. 30 to 40 mile-per-hour winds throughout the day today.

there we go. so, that is going to be not helpful for firefighters there. we do have the potential for rain in the forecast. that doesn't come until tuesday. and then we also have the severe weather risk as we go through tuesday through friday. so, here is the rain. beneficial rainfall, but the images tell you the story, right? we have hundreds of wildfires burning in north carolina. firefighters working tirelessly to get those down to just three. but they are large wildfires and 30% containment. we really need the help of mother nature. so let's take a look at it. this is our next storm system by the way that's going to impact much of the u.s. with all sorts of different weather, including heavy snow. we have got blowing dust and extreme weather danger for the southwest. and then severe weather for the mississippi river valley, the gulf coast, and the southeast. so, potential for a tornado outbreak tuesday through wednesday. for areas like louisiana, arkansas, in towards

to let you go. i think that's totally fine. >> ainsley: treasury secretary scott bessent announced over the weekend his department is going to create an affordability czar to focus on where they can make the biggest difference to help working class americans. he talked about how under joe biden we had gigantic deficits and overregulation. this is what he said over the weekend. >> i think president trump said that he will own the economy in six or 12 months. but can i tell you that we are working to get these prices down every day. but, you know, it took four years to get us here. and we have had five weeks. so, this rates are down, that's a very good start towards housing affordability. toward auto affordability. and, you know, we are tackling this at treasury, we are going to appoint an affordability czar. we are going to have an affordability council. we are laser focused on. this what does that mean? what is an affordability czar.

>> someone who picks the five or eight areas where this administration can make a big difference for working class americans. >> steve: it's perfect timing that they would announce that because tomorrow night when the president has his joint session for congress, what the democrats, according to politico and playbook today what the democrats are going to start to highlight is the one issue that they think can bring them back to power in the next election. and after that the presidential. and that is the economy. and so what they're going to start talking about is how these trump tariffs that could go into effect tonight at midnight, would cost the average american family 1200 bucks. so that's going to be the message from the democrats. in the meantime, the affordability czar is going to figure out how to bring down costs for stuff that everybody is buying. lawrence, you just talked to the egg lady, eggs are too high. they are absolutely too high. groceries cost too much. the cost of beef is through the roof. a lot of people don't realize,

you know, over the last couple years. given drought and supply chain and everything else. a lot of farmers have gone out of the beef business. supply of beef is lower than it's been since 1951. the reason that chuck roast is $45 at my grocery store it's supply and demand. it's that easy. >> lawrence: we haven't had an administration in the past four years that were focused on the farmers. getting rid of the regulations so they could -- i asked the egg lady earlier, which is the best type of egg and her message was we need all of the eggs. that's what we need. how do you boost productivity and supply all of these areas that will bring the costs down. >> steve: because of bird flu. >> lawrence: corrected. >> ainsley: that was a big issue during the election the economy, inflation, and also the border. that's why there are four major large cities, sanctuary cities in our country. and the mayors of those cities are going to testify in front of congress.

they are going to be grilled on the hill. you have the boston mayor michelle wu chicago mayor brandon johns and johnston and new york city mayor eric adams. >> brian: they expect it, know it. i'm sure they will be loaded to try to defend themselves. american people want criminals off the streets. they want to give ice access to get those criminals off the streets. they are going to paint it as they're trying to arrest my kitchen personnel and they are going after people that have been there for 20 years. when they are way down on the priority list with tom homan. and i think that -- i either bring tom homan or run clips of tom homan say where is he wrong right here? is that true that you would not give up this venezuelan gang member who just went on killing a rampage over the weekends? >> steve: one of the things apparently the four mayors are getting lawyered up and redacting documents and stuff like that. getting ready for this house oversight committee hearing on monday where james comer is

going to preside. what the four mayors are trying to avoid was the spectacle of the ivy league presidents who sat on capitol hill and defended the anti-semitic actions on their campuses. what happened to them? a lot of them wound up losing their jobs. these mayors want to make sure they don't repeat that kind of. >> lawrence: going to be hard for them to do that. this is the -- congress has an easy job. can you call tom homan, government employee, he can give you the information. go to each of the cities. and you go through the criminal migrants and look at the people in custody and you say why did your city release this person? >> steve: right. >> lawrence: they are a murderer. why did you release the rapist back on the street? why did you release the person committed an assault? they will have to provide some type of answer to that. that's all tom homan is asking them to do turn over the criminal migrants. >> ainsley: the mayor of boston michelle wu criticized last year

know, typically, it would have been a different speech. but i think the zelenskyy blow-up is going to become a central element of the speech. do you agree or disagree? >> yeah. i agree. look, it's a de facto state of the union. you don't usually give a state of the union when you are an incoming president. but, look at what president trump has done. going to be full of it. in your state of the union your two messages are that your economy is going to grow and provide economy and that america is strong enough to deter outside aggression. those are two broad themes whether you are a democrat or republican. what i -- what i think, this is going to be incredible theater, when the president speaks. because democrats have a role, too. when i was writing these speeches. the trick was to try to write a punch line in a way that gets the opposition to stand up and

applaud, too. i don't think they are going to do it. i think there is going to be a lot of boos. so there is a lot of drama. the risk for the democrats is, you don't want to sit there stone-faced and look like you are not doing anything. so, it's going to be very interesting to see how they react. >> lawrence: you know, bill, i'm glad you brought up that point. the president has stolen a lot of the coalition of the democratic party, when you are talking about minorities. when you are talking about the working class. union workers. the president has them now. so, when he uses phrases that resonates with those people, don't the democrats risk alienating them again? >> yeah. but they risk so long. it will really tell us about the democratic party, whether they are just going to be rooted in blind opposition to what donald trump proposes or whether they

can cheer anything. i think it will be very contentious. it's very dramatic setting. look, usually, all three branches of the government are represented. millions of americans are tuning in. so, i think -- president trump reminds us, it's going to be good television. >> lawrence: will he get a bump from this speech if it goes well? >> you usually get a little bump, i'm not sure it always lasts long. what people are probably going to be looking for, you know, he has a blitz of policies in the first month or. so what they're going to look for is maybe a little more explanation of the zelenskyy deal. of the tariffs that are going to go into effect. what is he doing. is he probably going to talk about his success at the border and so forth. so, they want a little more explanation. i think there will be a section on elon musk and what he's doing.
