5:03 am
tariff on american food and canada promised 25% on american products and mexico is expected to announce later today. president trump accused the countries of failing to curb fentanyl. president trump says his plan will boost american fore manufacturing of goods. >> president trump: what they have to do is build car plants in the united states, in which they have no tariff, otherwise if they did them in taiwan to send them here, they'll have 25% or 30% or 50% or whatever the number may be, it will go only up. by doing it here, no tariff. >> president trump sees his plan already working. honda announced it will move manufacturing to indiana on top
5:04 am
of sawedia arabia investment in oouz and apple's investment and 500 billion infrastructure from open ai, oracle and softbank. reciprocal tariffs will start on march 7. equal tariff will be implemented on their goods being brought into the u.s. >> steve: thank you very much. good news, i read this morning chipotle will not charge more for guacamole. the cost of a car built in mexico or canada or parts could cost extra 400 to 12,000 dollars. when the president brought in the guy from the taiwan semicon
5:05 am
semiconductor company it makes it clear, you make stuff here, you don't have big tariffs. the president needs to explain how we're trying to get jobs back here. might be pain in the beginning, this will help all of us. >> ainsley: you can buy bmw from south carolina and hondafrom indiana. there are options here if you don't want to pay that tariff. >> lawrence: union workers care about this, too, brian. >> brian: they do care in short term, farmers need help. we had u.s. mca, i will say this, treasury secretary mentioned this to me, there is huge progress on fentanyl and with drugs. there was 900 arrests of cartel members. they are afraid to leave their compounds. reinforce and stop drugs from coming in, those promises that
5:06 am
president trump made to families who lost their loves ones who aren't drug addicts, they had one and done drug use, not this is what makes this lethal, fulfilling that promise for good this time and that is what we're seeing, i ges not enough progress to not have tariffs. >> ainsley: that is scary. think about someone addicted to drugs homeless on streets of new york, people like in college and someone offers them a little pill to stay up and study late r ritalin laced with fentanyl. they might have a weak moment even though they know not to take that. >> steve: great progress made in the president's first six or seven weeks in office regarding tightening up southern and northern border.
5:07 am
>> brian: president trump will focus on renewal of the american dream, that is the headline while addressing joint session of congressman tonight. >> steve: democrats plotting their response to president. chad pergram has been around and seen things come and go, what do they have coming up tonight, chad? >> chad: it is hard for democrats to compete with the power of the presidency, there is not as much wattage when you are trying to come up with a viral moment, find something to go viral and compete with that,
5:08 am
democratic women will show up and wear pink in solidarity, members of the black caucus will wear black. expect some flags, longest-serving woman in house history will hand out ties and skafshs with ukrainian colors and some members will sit quietly, they don't want to feed into what president trump will talk about. the top democrat on finance committee will hold his own town hall back in oregon. this will depend on what president trump says, some people might show up with cartons to protest high cost of groceries. they might try to enforce de84 um, they let democrats get away with whatever they want as long as it don't go too far over the line, guys. >> ainsley: democrats selected slotkin, out of michigan to
5:09 am
deliver that rebuttal after the president's speech tonight. why did they select her? >> chad: she's a freshman democrat who won in a state president trump carried. several other democrats won in senate races even though president trump carried the state. not many people remember the responder, there is not enough ampier as the presidency. she will moderate democrat and will talk about michigan and canada right across the border. we only remember the responder if something goes wrong. last year we had katie britt, criticized for her delivery. in 2013, we had marco rubio, he needed to go get a drink of water in the middle of his speech. bo bobby jindahl.
5:10 am
you have somebody like paul ryan, chair of the budget committee in 2011, he gave response to president obama in 2011 after the big democratic blood at the poll, 63% of seats in favor of republicans and paul ryan was mitt romney speaker of the house. it is hard to compete with what the president has to say. some people tune out and never hear what the minority member has to say. >> steve: one problem, democrats don't have a unified weller or a really good message. when the president gets up there and talks about how significant the drop-off is in people coming across the northern and southern border, people love that. that is a good thing. when they talk about making government more efficient,
5:11 am
that's a good thing. it is hard for democrats to be critical of stuff that is good. >> chad: and watch tonight for sight bites. president trump has a line about the border, it gets applause from republicans and you will see cameras pan the chamber and democrats may be sitting on their hands or scowling or whatever. they have two master's to serve here, they have to gin up their base and don't want to see going too far the other direction. hard balance to strike, especially for members who represent swing sdrekts. >> ainsley: thank you. >> steve: great job. >> brian: talk about what the president announced yesterday, they are going to pause all aid to ukraine. pause, not cancel. sources tell fox trump wants an apology from president zelenskyy. vp vance says they want to keep
5:12 am
fighting. one thing zelenskyy had planned, he left the u.s. to go to u.k. and they had emergency nato summit, i think they will support ukraine. i think europe wants to get them to the peace table and trump holds the cards and that is a phrase that does not seem like zelenskyy understood. if zelenskyy is cunning and a good leader, he will pick up the phone, talk to the president and say, let's do the deal. put minerals there, take 30,000 u.k. and french troops and that will be the buffer and then we'll sit down and talk to vladamir putin. that is where i think this gets interesting because all we hear about is putin has been amenable to a deal with president trump and i'm sure he has been. when he sits down or empowering lavrov to do a deal, will he let
5:13 am
them have a million man army, will he let them have patriot missiles so they don't get attacked again. we will find out how rationale or irrational vladamir putin, evil-doer of our times is. >> ainsley: trump knows that, he's doing this, go to the negotiating table and can't talk ill, trying to be fair to both sides so we can have a peace deal. when you talk to pausing military to ukraine, it includes weapons in transit or ones in poland. he said this is just a pause. jd was interviewed by sean hannity, he is there for the speech in washington. he sat down with j.d. vance for 18 minutes yesterday. jd said this is supposed to be ceremonial, give credit to fighters, get the deal signed,

settlement. >> lawrence: they are hyping up zelenskyy. one person, president of the united states, is trying to end the war. they are not doing him favors by going on this photo op. pick up the phone and publicly apologize to the president of the united states. he needs to listen to his advisors. he continues to go on social media and top the president with his words. the president wants to do a deal, zelenskyy will not even sign mineral agreement which links us financially. >> ainsley: like europe stepped in, you can't do the deal, we will do the deal. fine, let them, go for it. >> lawrence: they know they are not going to do it. >> brian: you know why. >> steve: what happened on sunday, there was an emergency nato meeting and we were not there. keep in mind, today, this
5:16 am
afternoon, in ukraine, zelenskyy is going, okay, by pausing that, that stops all stuff that was coming and keep in mind, it takes about eight months after approved to send over, eight months to get there if it is already made. if made by u.s. defense contractors, it can take years to come. pipeline is flowing that way. mr. zelenskyy is probably thinking, if i don't apologize, what is in it for me? one thing being overlooked, close advisor to president could impact is star link internet, that is elon musk. if elon musk wants to send a message, all he has to do, pull the plug on that, they have tens of thousands of terminals over there now. >> brian: keep in mind what you guys are saying, you are saying zelenskyy is worse than putin. >> steve: no. >> brian: you are saying we should -- you have to take
5:17 am
starlink from our allie in order to get them to do an economic deal or get them to the table? last thing you want to do, europe sees this. europe says if ukraine falls, selfishly, eastern europe will gradually come in next five or six years, georgia infiltrated maldova, took over belarus, and a portion of ukraine. they see the soviet union reforming and are stepping up all because of president trump and that is great. if they could stop them here, it is for their own safety, too. and vladamir putin is the bad guy. zelenskyy might not be leader of choice, he is ukrainian's leader of choice. >> lawrence: everybody knows putin is the bad guy, we don't need to virtue signal and say putin is the bad guy. that does not end the war.
5:18 am
what ends the war is zelenskyy partnering with united states from economic standpoint, that is his security guarantee and he won't do this or let us get to putin. >> ainsley: he used to be so grateful, we have given three times more than europe. he came to our country. disrespectful, someone forgets what we have given them. >> brian: i don't think he forgets. j.d. vance said you haven't thanked them, that was a free-flowing conversation, first 30 minutes perfect, last 30 minutes off the rails. they did not even get to lunch. he had 50 minutes, last 25 are going to be in the trump library, they will play in a loop everyday when people walk in. it wasn't a bad moment for donald trump, in the big picture, realize if you deny
5:19 am
starlink to your allie, you are not only not providing weapons, you are letting maybe kyiv fall. that is not what anybody wants. >> steve: apparently one thing that angered the president yesterday was the fact mr. zelenskyy told reporter he felt the war was going to go on for a very long time >> steve: donald trump made that clear, he wants to wrap it up. >> ainsley: nobody wants world war iii, trump would step in to prevent that, so would europe and nato. >> brian: europe is stepping up. >> steve: good. >> ainsley: carley has headlines. >> carley: i would like to add this, russia agreed to help trump administration communicate with iran on nuclear program and proxy group within the region. bloomberg citing sources close who say president trump brought up the issue during a phone call with vladamir putin last month and discussed at a meeting in
