are coming up with lots of really stupid ideas about how to appeal to people. but the problem is, that if you don't have a platform built on actual issues this has been the problem for democrats all of the entire platform built around identity and trying -- and emotions. evoking emotions and if that's your entire identity, then if that's your party then you don't have anything that -- any sort of lasting argument -- and you never win over new voters that way. and of course, the way president trump was able to rob so many democrat voters was by talking about issues that mattered to everybody regardless of your party or background. and he stolen all of the ideas from them. brian: first resort is to sing and protest what you've admitted is you don't want to have the debate you know that's true. because these are the same folk who is hate, they love cancel culture they hate free speech because as soon as you introduce out of the equation you force

guys to talk about something people care about at that pongt it is right more song lyrics because there's no -- like, logical agent we can write down for what we're protesting. lara: only thing they're standing for is anything against that president trump and republicans want and it is not going very well for them. charlie: the old or i get the more i love hippies like in my prnl life i really love -- hippies aging hippies i think they're fantastic but these people -- brian: that's good. charlie: into weird stuff they do homeopathic stuff. lara: i'm into that. charlie: do the home brews but i wouldn't drink anything the people at the protest rallies are brewing. they couldn't survive in the woods on their own. for ten minutes -- brian: there's a distinction between what you're talking about which is free speech do your own thing live and let live, and then that thing which is like make everybody shut up

kids and family from every direction all of the time. and you're peenging off something over here and then trying to peenged it off over here and and the parent that is pushing this. i think it is the idea like give parent the upper hand again. make it a system where the parents get to review what's happening they don't like it they say no you can't come through the back door and get a kid to sign a contract. no contracts unless the parents involved and you know there's some questions around privacy rights with this. but at the end of the day to me the tradeoff is so much more in the benefit side of giving parents a fighting chance at keeping stuff out of their kids hands that's going addict them or harm them. >> yeah. it is scary stuff but -- charlie: more dangerous than about any toy a child could play with, and at the very least having, you know, talking about it. informs and educates i think participants to what is what their kids are getting into

charlie: it is really interesting before now, this is really not been sort of a political issue in mainstream politics. when you look down pennsylvania avenue to congress, and you look at democrats and republicans in the legislature, do you have some allies that you found that are worthwhile working with on this? >> you know, i think we have a lot of allies. i think that really institutional banks members on the hill see the writing on the wall economy is changing. payment reels are paying the way people interact is changing and we have to lead the globe in terms of technological space. we're ushering in u.s. dollar dominance with this and i thank the president for his leadership and steadfast commitment to doing that. this is something that can really alter the course of marketplaces -- in for the rest of history and we have to make sure that we're stepping up to the plate really accepting that innovation. driving it forward and i think there's leaders on the hill that understand that too.

powerful to move people in an incredible way. brian: i have a hard time believing that you have a demo that you didn't think was going to work most of your songs probably work. but let me ask you about how you chose to tell the story here. because what i love about the visual depictions of these things is it brings that, that story on the paper to life and you maybe get a little different perspective on what's happening was there something about -- seeing through the eyes of peter, for example? that kind of tilted the story a little bit for you and a helpful way? >> it did. and that's what i was really extremely moved by instantly. you know it was like it brought those black and white pages through color and you don't hear a lot through judas through his story, and it was just so powerful. i think everybody can relate. that's what's so beautiful about it. is that these we think of these disciples friends of jesus as a mythical creature bees they're real people and you see the humanity, the struggles, and

them walking with jesus, and i think the beautiful thing of this movie is that when you watch judas and watch peter when you watch all of the guys you're like wow. this i'm in awe of that. that's powerful. brian: to me the coolest about all of these is where you see the gospel come through the good news of jesus' life death and resurrection where does that come for you most powerfully in this film? >> i think it is something that we've been seeing about this femme all are welcome at table i think that's the gospel, invitation that's what you see is that everybody is welcome here. and -- jesus held up that bread, wine, said this is my blood and body and those who knew that was about to deny him and said this is still for you. that moment in time changed the world and still changing the world today this message still changes the world the invitation at the table come to the table come to forgiveness of god that's what this movie has --

it is terrifying. i mean, what you're seeing on tv is -- is a good taste of it. but to see someone in front of you covered head to toe you can see eyes and sometimes not eyes and you have no idea what they're going to do next many of them don't seem -- mentally stable. you'll see in the video guys running around without shoes screaming and chanting we have no idea what they're planning. charlie: do you get a sense they are all students or a sense that you have people not students taking part in the melees? >> it is unclear. because i would have said last year, it certainly anti-agitators and i would threek believe these are not all students who were at admitted to columbia but it is impossible to be on campus without a columbia id -- so incline toed to say these are all students and made only

students can be on campus so something else to note by the way is that -- again, the violent protests are affecting all the students except the protesters themselves. they shut down the library. but they're allowed to stay inside while we're denied essential resources that are rightfully ours. charlie: every single one of you either you or your families -- have taken out loans, or are paying a tradition to go so that you can go into the library. absolutely whenever you need to go into the library -- and so you're basically being denied something that you have contractually paid for? >> it is outrageous. charlie: so the university has the university at least done better this year or -- do you have very little faith in their ability to try to take a moral stand on all of this and actually protect the actual students who are at columbia in hopes of learning? >> i think that it is really

important to recognize that the new president, president armstrong is doing better than did last year that being said, we can't negotiate with these people. we cannot take a middle approach. there must be a hard line approach if you violate the rules, laid out in the student code of conduct you shall face the consequences suspensions these stiewpghts should not be allowed to stay here and handing out statisticalliers with pictures of sinwar these are terrorists this is proterror as it gets. they shouldn't be allowed to negotiate and offer meetings with the universities they should be expelled. e: it is interesting they're calling the nypd likening them to the kkk while, of course, they're the ones wearing a full head gear concealing their faces. i'm assuming noah you don't walk around concealing your face for any reason because you have nothing to hide. thank you so much for joining us this morning. noah letterman.
