[laughter] wasn't putting on the brave fac- lara: look at the body language. it says it all a, brian. brian: i don't know why i'm on my tippy toes. i guess if i'm higher than the snake -- charlie: what is it, is it a

theological thing or what's your problem with snakes? brian: i don't know. now you're raising an interesting question if we psychoanalyze -- lara: there's a trauma somewhere. charlie: you're on the couch. brian: i do remember as a kid riding a bike and somehow a snake slithered across the road when i was going, and my tire went over the snake, and the snake, like, reared up and kind of went for my -- charlie: and bit you? brian: no, but it felt like we were going for my foot. it was probably only this long, it didn't really rear up, i'm just telling you, charlie, it wasn't a great experience. lara: i can deal with these big snakes and these reptiles here in the safety of the "fox & friends" set, but if i saw even a little, tiny one in my driveway at home, no thank you. brian: yeah. you were brave, actually. i felt a little shamed -- charlie: you held the big one. lara: i sure did. 60 pounds. brian: with a smile.

charlie: okay. we start with a fox news alert. a new jersey police detective's family is in mourning after he was shot and killed friday as police charge a 14-year-old with his murder. brian: and a second officer is still in the hospital this morning fighting for his life. lara: chanley painter has details. >> reporter: hey, guys. so this tragedy has left the family of detective joseph azcona shocked and heart broken, his mother martha saying, quote: that was my baby. he always said he wanted to be a cop when he was little, and when he grew up, he took the test. vargas and other family members were at her 26-year-old son's bedside when he died in the early hours of saturday morning. detective as cone that was a 5-year veteran of the newark police department. he and his partner were reportedly investigating the possibility a group of individuals near a mcdonald's in newark had illegal guns. that's when a barrage of bullets rang out. the detective was shot before he

even had a chance to get out of his vehicle. >> he was a true hero. not only is the agency mourning, our community is mourning also. >> we just have to do a better job of making sure that our children are not handling guns in the street shooting at police officers. this is not a police problem, this is our problem. >> reporter: a a zcona's unnamed partner survived the shoot and is currently being treated in the hospital. a 14-year-old suspect is responsible and was in possession of an automatic weapon believed to be the murder weapon. the teenager was also shot in that eruption of gunfire and is recovering at the hospital. the teen is charged with numerous crimes including murder, attempted murder and possession of illegal weapons. at least four other people are being yesterday in custody right now, but it's not clear if they will face any charges in this, guys. lara: terrible. brian: thanks, chanley.

charlie: you know, people are -- usually the press throws around terms like an automatic weapon, and they have no idea what they're talking about. they're usually talking about a semiautomatic weapon. but in this case, apparently, it actually was a fully automatic weapon, and that's why that 14-year-old was able to fire off 29 rounds before being stopped. earlier in the previous hour we talked to paul mauro about this case. >> we are at a point post-2020 where there is far less of a pejorative in confronting police, attacking police. in 2023 we set a record for the number of police shot on duty according to the fraternal order of police numbers, and a lot of those were ambushes. it's the kind of stuff we haven't seen since the 1960s. this is still very much part of a trend. it's not even that there's not a pejorative to it, it's bottom something to aspire to be --

it's become something to aspire to in certain circles. you see it on the media, social media, etc. look, i'm sure newark is pulling at a every string to try to figure out why this happened. it's a terrible thing, and i'm sure we'll be hearing more about this, i hope we will, because we really need answers here as to how something like this could happen. charlie: this idea, this anti-cop fervor is actually celebrated by politicians. brian: well, yeah. when he said -- i'd never heard that before, but when he said it's not just something you feel like you have license to do, you know, the shooting -- charlie: right. brian: -- but in some cases you actually aspire to that? in context, he's saying that takes us back decades, to the 1960s. but that is what's so scary, was you talk about the weapon that he has, the aspiration -- we don't know that this -- lara: a 14-year-old kid. brian: that is just a recipe for a disaster like this and so much more. lara: and this is one of the reasons i think president trump was very clear during his joint

address to congress that he wants the death penalty for anyone who kills a law enforcement officer a, because we can't -- anyone celebrating that, you're put on nose with president trump -- notice with president trump. we're going to protect our police officer, and our thoughts and prayers -- brian: yeah. celebrating it, excusing it, trying to gloss over it. none of those things fly. lara: absolutely not. charlie: and, of course, you know, many of these same politicians who celebrate hatred of police have also encouraged what we've seen on college campuses over the past couple of years and most recently at columbia university where the president -- where the administration has withdrawn, has held back $400 million in funding for different programs there at the college in response to these protests which have been just nakedly anti-semitic where you have masked supporters of hamas chanting, blocking

buildings and preventing students who have paid to go to these schools from getting an education. brian: so the protesters apparently now are responding. here's what they had to say on instagram. columbia university has bent over backwards to satiate the zionist death machine brutalizing its own students, awarding former iof soldiers thousands of dollars after assaulting protesters, surveilling and shutting out the harlem community. was it worth it? the institution will never keep us safe. these cuts won't be hurting armstrong's pockets. instead, our most marginalized communities will face the brunt of its impact. it's up to keep us safe. it's like, it's such a -- what else do you say but warped? charlie: yeah. brian: i don't know what else to say is. how do you even confront that bubble and get into it? because there's no premise of

their argument that leads me to the conclusion they get to. and most of the premises are wrong too. all of it just seems like they're in a, living in a a different world. they've created their own reality, and now they're living out what that they think justice is in this warped reality they've created. lara: and, you know, if you go back two years or so ago before it got to this level, you could have tamped this down to a certain ec extent. but -- texts. but the last administration did absolutely nothing. they allowed this hatred to foment and bubble up on these college campuses. i can't imagine what it must have been like to be a jewish student on some of these campuses. now we have this administration actually taking action, and college campuses are being visited by the federal task force to combat anti-semitism. and there are a lot of colleges who are on notice right now. columbia university, george washington university, harvard, johns hopkins, nyu, northwestern, university of california-los angeles,

university-california-berkeley, university of minnesota and university of southern california. and i actually loved nancy mace and her take on this. >> it's disgusting to see this kind of behavior on college campuses. you've bot these soy latte warriors. they wouldn't last an hour in gaza. they'd be thrown off a roof. it's devastating. every jewish student deserves the feel safe and has the right, the civil right, the human right to go to class, and i hope to see more who are here on foreign visas at columbia university and elsewhere, i hope they get, i hope today get a one-way ticket home to whatever foreign country they came from. charlie: you know, and, brian, you've spent much of your adult life in the teaching, teaching universities. and i think it's interesting, something you said yesterday, it's all about emotionalism. at a time when they should be learning stuff. what about learning things? lara: what happened to that?

brian: what's so crazy is they're out of place that literally exists to take people with different perspectives and is are them examine each other's arguments and and talk about it and get to a better place of -- that's literally what what these places exist for. but because these guys are emotional and the leaders at these places have baptized emotion as the highest thing you can do as a human when a reasoning faculty is what a makes us unique. lara: yeah. brian: they baptize emotion, and that's what you get here, and it completely undercuts the whole point of the university to begin withs which is why they need the accountability, going to these campuses, pulling visas. if you're here fomenting pro-hamas activism, get out, right? lara: and unfortunately too, i guess, it's crazy to me, a lot of the people who are out there demonstrating in these pro-hamas protests don't even know why they're out there. they don't even really know the

basis of their argument. there were so many of those videos when people say when they're chanting to the river to the sea, they don't even know, and yet they're out a there harassing and an tag nicing these jewish students. it's absolutely outrageous. something else that's probably outrageous to a lot of people, apparently 40% of toddlers right now have their own tablet. and here are numbers that really shook me. 2-year-olds, 40% have their own tablet. 4-year-old, look at that, 58%. 8-year-olds, 68% of them have their own tablet. and the time that they're using these, these average screen times, under 2 years old, an hour and two minutes. i don't know what an under 2-year-old is doing. 5 to 8-year-olds, three hours and 28 minutes. my kids, him, are not watching this because my children -- [laughter] brian: they're going to feel left out, is that what you're

saying. lara: if they come home and we have a few minutes before their sports activity, they get 15 minutes. so, luke and carolina, you're welcome one day. brian: my kids are in the same boat. for a 2-year-old, an hour? 40% own their own tablet, and they're the on it for an hour a day? lara: and you got -- the truth is the things that they're watching too, it's not like these educational videos. most of it, apparently, are these short videos like tiktok and youtube videos. and that apparently stimulates the brain in the same area that drugs would. charlie: even if it is educational, you're dropping -- developing -- first of all, you're using a tablet to babysit your child which is probably not the west way to babysit your child -- best way. but the other thing is it develops, it's like a relationship between a child and a device. brian: that's a good point. charlie: and then you expect them to ever -- how's that break-up going to look?

brian: it's not going to happen. lara: that's the problem. brian: it's sort of the scary part of the business side of it too. there's no product in the world where you get a customer hooked at 2 and you can have them all the way through. except this -- charlie: and it's interesting, because when you talk to these executives of these major companies, social media companies, oh, i would never let my kid anywhere near -- lara: yeah. they know the truth. charlie: yeah. because they've seen those addiction number, and they know what happens. lara: yep. brian: maybe not for the 2-year-old. i think we're many agreement. [laughter] charlie: i think we can settle on that one. brian: all right. we've got some headlines here. two illegal immigrants have been arrested for allegedly shooting and killing a good samaritan who tried to stop them from stealing his neighbor's catalytic converter. this happening just outside los angeles back in february. both men, one a guatemalan national, the other a migrant from el salvador, have been charged with murder and already

have lengthy criminal histories which included previous theft, dui and gun charges. former democratic senator from montana jon tester is now linking his 2024 senate race loss to kamala harris' poor performance. tester saying, quote, the top of the ticket did not perform because i don't think the top of the ticket embraced the issues that persons were talking about. we got wrapped up in all the cancel culture. tester had served three terms before losing to former navy seal tim sheehy this past november. former james bond actor pierce brosnan says he thinks whoever is cast in the next 007 needs to be british. >> unsafe diving to a-- driving will void warranty. congratulations on a safe journey. brian: brosnan speaking to the sunday telegraph also saying he thinks the, quote, right decision for the franchise to give creative control to amazon. the new bond would replace actor daniel craig who has held the role for 16 years. you know, i saw pierce brosnan at church once. lara: oh. brian: it was wild. i felt very safe, put it that way. larry: is daniel craig, is he british? brian: yeah, i think he's somewhere -- lara: couldn't we just have an american actor with a britishing act a sent? brian: that's the debate. i think charlie's in on the british. charlie: no, it's just like, i don't know, i mean, 007 kind of has to be british, right? lara: he's got to have an accent. i don't know. [laughter] brian: i think it's got to be legit. lara: okay, fine. charlie: president trump is urging republicans to unite as the house is set to vote on a

brian: a busy week on capitol hill as house republicans expect to vote tuesday on a new spending bill that would keep the federal government open through september 30th. lara: without action from congress, the government will shut down friday k and democrats seem dead set on forcing that to happen. charlie: here with a preview on what we can expect, white house press secretary caroline leavitt. great to see you -- karoline leavitt. thank you for joining us. as you know by now, you know, trying to get congress to do anything is a little bit like herding cats. but you guys feel pretty comfortable about where you are right now. >> yes, we do. and this week government funding will run out, and house republicans have negotiated and led a clean continuing resolution which president trump fully supports. and he is counting on republicans on capitol hill to

work together, to unite to get this clean c.r. passed. on november 5th the american people gave republicans and president trump a historic, overwhelming mandate to govern. and it would be a gift to the democrats to allow them to shut down the government and, therefore, shut down the momentum that president trump and republicans have built over the last seven weeks. so this clean c.r., we need it to pass. it effectively curbs spending, freezes spending while allowing the government to continue to function allowing i.c.e. agents and border patrol to continue their a mass deportation effort, rows president trump's -- allows president trump's cabinet to continue to identify waste, fraud and abuse across the federal bureaucracy. so the president supports the c.r., and we're hopeful and expect republicans to get onboard so we can pass it and continue moving forward implementing president trump's agenda. brian: vice president vance said that he and his if -- 3-year-old

daughter were followed and heckled by pro-ukrainian protesters. such an ugly scene. what's your reaction to what he dealt with there? >> it was very sad to watch those videos and and to hear directly from if our vice president about this situation especially since he was with his daughter on a walk clearly trying to enjoy private family time. but, unfortunately, this is the world and the country that we live in. but i think it's very telling that these protesters were out there hooting and hollering about ukraine. this is who the democrat party has become. it's the party of foreign countries and putting america last, and i applaud the vice president. he is a man of integrity and a family man for engaging with these protesters and trying to explain to them he and president trump's common sense point of view on this issue. but it was definitely sad to see. lara: you know, we've had the opportunity to spend a lot of time around president trump and elon musk. there's a lot of palace intrigue

about what's happening in that relationship, what elon's relationship is like with, you know, the rest of these government officials. once and for all, can we dispel the rumors that there is some ongoing feud between elon musk, president trump, secretary of state marco rubio? what do you say about that? >> i can confirm there is no such feud. in fact, i was mat lahr -- mar-a-lago last night with president trump, elon musk and secretary of state marco rubio and all was well. the president convened a meeting last week with members of his cabinet and is with elon to talk about this historic effort that everybody is onboard with to identify the waste, fraud and abuse across our federal government. and the meeting was highly productive. it was an open dialogue and discussion which is exactly what the president's team should be doing, engaging with one another to implement the president's goals. and so everybody is on board with president trump's mission and doge's mission to identify this waste and fraud, to be good

stewards of the american taxpayers' money. is and both with elon and marco are doing an incredible job in their respect ill -- respective roles. president trump has put together an extraordinary team, and i think it's pitiful that the mainstream media is working overtime to try to divide president trump from elon and from other members of his cabinet, but their attempts are failing. everybody is working as one team toward one goal, and it's to make america great again. charlie: obviously, you all have made tremendous strides in exposing a lot of incredible waste, fraud and abuse that i don't think anybody that's been paying attention knows existed. you've done a fantastic job of ferreting that out. these changes, it's going to be a whole lot better if you get congress on board, to go along with it. what kind of headway has the white house made in terms of getting congress to go along

with making a lot of this stuff more permanent so that when the trump administration is over, we still have some of these measures in place to prevent this nonsense? >> yeah. well, i've seen many republicans from the hill at the white house, and they are extraordinarily excited about the waste and the fraud that the trump administration is identifying across the board at every federal agency. i saw secretary brooke rollins working on the weekend yesterday posting about a some of the millions of dollars of contracts that she found at the department of agriculture focused on what? transgender studies. why is the department of agriculture funding transgender studies to the tune of millions of dollars? so everybody is onboard with identifying this. and i know it's good news for capitol hill especially for conservatives who, of course, want to cut runaway spending. that's how we're going to get the inflation nightmare driven by joe biden's economic policies under control. and as president trump has said,

he's committed to hopefully passing a balanced budget. and so to the fiscal conservative hawks, i think it's music to their ears, and it should be music to the ears of everybody because we have to get our fiscal house in order. and that's exactly what this administration is focusing on doing. shar harry have to ask you with real quick, have you had a single day off? louisiana this morning good news for those in the market for a new home. mortgages for 30-year fixed rates seeing its large largest weekly decline since september. here with what this means for you, fox news contributor katrina campins. good morning, katrina. this is good news. we've seen a decrease. what does this mean overall for the housing market? >> hi, lara. thanks for having me this morning, my friend. the housing market needed a glimpse of hope, ask we got it this week -- and we got it this week. mortgage rates continue their downward trend making seven consecutive weeks of declines, right? and so this is great news. now what we need is more supply in the starter sector of the

market. so we have seen more supply come into the market, and depending on where you are in the country, you're beginning to see that. the issue is, is that now we need more building which i'm very excited about president trump did sign an executive order working towards alleviating the issue that is the housing market, right? and part of that includes opening up federal land and increasing domestic production here in the u.s., bringing more skilled labor and, ultimately, helping our economy. the housing sector is a huge aspect of our economy, and it has really been in disarray in the if past few years, so we really need some help. this mortgage news is great, is great news for the housing market. i just hope that it continues moving forward so that buyers have more purchasing power and sellers are motivated to either, you know, relocate or put their

house on the market. there's just so much opportunity if interest rates come down. we have also seen the 15 rate mortgage come down which is also good news because people can now refinance. and and we have seen those numbers in the 5 which we haven't seen -- 5%. the 30-year is still in the 6s. lara: is now a good time for people to consider refinancing their home mortgage? i mean, you're telling us we've seen a good trend in this direction. would you tell people to consider doing that the now or should they wait? do we think it'll drop even lower? >> it depends on what mortgage rate they have locked in, right? so many people have 2-3, so these rates are going to need to tick down in order for people to continue to refinance, but for people with higher rates, the 15-year, for instance, is a great opportunity to refinance and then later on in the future or relocate, it's an opportunity

to also relocate for sellers that have been at a stand still because they have a low mortgage rate locked in. so this is really good news overall. we just hope that this trend continues. we do still have high inflation, so it's going to take some time. but anything worthwhile takes time, and sometimes we do need to get uncomfortable to get comfortable. so people are also concerned about the tariffs, and what they need to understand is this is a key tool that trump is using to negotiate so that we are better off in this country and we have economic prosperity moving forward. which may feel a little uncomfortable right now while the negotiations take place, but i do have faith that everything will work out for the american people. lara: well, so do we, and we're looking forward to it, and we like good news on a sunday morning. katrina campins, thank you so much for joining us. >> thanks for having me. lara: still ahead, kamala harris for california governor? apparently, she's considering running.

and be like, you know what? the young man who's about to win the state championship in the long jump in female sports, that shouldn't happen. you as the governor should step up and -- >> no, and i appreciate -- >> would you do something like that? say no men in female sports? >> i think it's an issue of fairness, so that ease easy to call out, the unfairness of that. charlie: of course, this made perfect sense to everybody with this big turn-about from him, but he's getting absolutely scorched by democrats, fellow democrats, who are upset about this new position. larry light foot -- rory light foot saying -- lori lightfoot saying it's disgusting. >> what's disgusting is the fact that you've got girls in california and in other states, of course, but california started all this extremism and madness, and they work is so hard and they pursue their dream on a team, and it's dashed by totally unfair biological man indicating in their -- competing

in their sport. gavin newsom can say he thinks it's unfair. where he's been the past six years? he's the governor. it's still the law in california that this stuff goes songs he needs -- so he needs to act to stop this. charlie: do you think voters will fall for the spin cycle laundering of gavin newsom or believe the facts? >> unless he does something. watch what they do, not just what they say. charlie: okay. politico reports that kamala harris on friday has set a deadline for her next move. at a pre-oscars party last weekend, harris was asked by another party-goer whether she would make a decision about jumping into the california governor's race. she gave a definitive answer, the end of the summer, she says. >> the end of the -- i mean, honestly. i've got a very direct interest in this because as people know, i've talked about it before, i'm strongly considering running for governor of california myself.

so i don't think there's anything that republican candidate could wish for -- [laughter] more than kamala harris running for governor, a failed and rejected pa machine politician. she ran just about the worst presidential campaign in history, wasted a billion dollars of donor money. she can't explain why she wanted to be president. i can't imagine she could explain why she would even want to be california governor because kamala harris is all about herself and her ambition, so i don't think this is going work for her. charlie: so even in california, we think california voters are sane enough to see through all in this and realize that she's not what they want in. >> well, things are changing in california. charlie: yeah. >> people really are waking up. especially with the fires. we were just talking about that in los angeles, to the unbelievable failures of this one-party rule from the democrats. kamala harris is the perfect example of that. she's been in office one way or another in california for over a decade. so the idea that she's the answer to the problems that the democrats caused, i think people aren't going to fall for it.

charlie: and as you point out, it's the one-party rule that at some point you have no one else to blame finish. >> exactly. charlie: you have a record. the state is your resumé. >> exactly. charlie: so do we have time for this last one? we've got -- so we've got, here's our last news in review item. trump has turned to elon musk to ask him to help save our astronauts lost in space. >> i've asked elon, i said, do we a favor, can you get 'em out? he said, yes. he is preparing to go up, i think, in two weeks. we love you and we're coming up to get you. they've been left up there. i hope they like each other. [laughter] maybe they'll love each other -- charlie: i hope they like each other. >> i know. [laughter] i think this whole story just captures the incredible energy we've got going on in america right now. these two swaggering business leaders, the president, elon musk just pragmatically stepping in, solving problems.

let's turn now to chief meteorologist rick reichmuth out in fox square. rick: charlie, i should have worn a coat. it's cold again. it is going to get really nice this week for almost all the country. temperatures warming up, but we have some big storms coming along as a well. 'tis the season, i guess. show you what the the next seven days are going to look like, a lot of moisture out across parts of the west. we really need it. this is towards the end of rainy season for california, much of the four corner, and we have a series of storms that are going to bring 1-2 inches of rain, 1-2 feet of snow across the higher elevations. this is going to move across the plain ares and bring severe weather. notice parts of central mississippi riverral valley looking at a significant moisture, nothing across parts of the northeast. we had these fires that blew up yesterday across parts of long island. still breezy today. things improving just a little

brian: today is one of the most delicious days of the year. it's national meatball day. lara: and here to help us celebrate, chef eric levine. >> yes, thanks for having me. lara: we have a9 lot of meatballs. >> one of the things that people really need to understand is that bread is so important in the meatball making mention church we use some dry old, you know, crusty bread -- lara: it's not a low carb dish as it turns out. >> no, not at all. we have a couple of those. lara: okay. >> the milk we use, we use a little bit of recotta, right? and -- ricotta. and the ground meat we use is a triple blend, pork, beef and

veal, and that's important, of to have the nice texture, the color, the flavors. a little bit of salt and pepper. hah a a little seasoning. charlie: do you have a performance for what kind of bread? >> we always use baguette or whatever is old -- i don't want to say old, you want the texture in there. we have our traditional meatball blend, this one is a buffalo chicken maleball. brian: ooh, i've got to try this. >> we have a turkey meatball and a later bit of an apple marmalade. brian: this one has bonus if filling. like a jelly doughnut -- >> this is our stuffed meatball. we take a little bit of rigatoni, we take some cheese, some ricotta and parmesan and alfredo sauce. we make a ball,s we freed it, and then we take the meat mentionture, wrap with it around and slow cook it. lara: this is a better surprise for brian than the giant snake

we threw at him. yeah, this is the kind of thing -- >> one of the things i always a want to point out is parmesan cheese. people buy the pre-grated stuff. don't do that. no, get yourself a nice block where, a grater and date it yourself. there's no reason to do the pre-grated stuff because what happens -- >> chef, how am i doing here? >> you're doing great. you're a pro. you should do this for a living. lara: like i went to culinary school or something. >> the important part is with the pre-grated, it loses its flavor after a day or so. when you are using an original and you're grating it fresh, big, big, big, big difference in the flavor profile. charlie: and once you make -- now you've got lara's meatball here, what -- what's your process for cooking it. >> what we'll do is we'll roll it, right? and i put it in the refrigerator for about 5-10 minutes just to firm it up, and then we'll fry
