someone has been a law-abiding and part of our community let's find a way to bring them into full citizenship. if someone is that it's a risk on the got to be out of here progress during your time do you think you hit the right balance? the last year of the first trump administration i said there's a couple examples of some accused of first degree sexual assault and second-degree assault to injure a child there were examples nypd should have worked with ice and did not. i think the law we had is the right approach as i did a series of violent crime you're gone. also every law can be improved upon if there's ever a category we need to add, that's the right thing to do but we have a bigger problem our court system is so broken. and, new york state we had a big fight over the question of bail and for too long our judges did not have the discretion that they needed.

to be able to decide if someone was, if there is a threat of dangerousness with someone. it's not just about immigration issue parts fixing our court system and making sure someone is committed a serious crime it actually leads to a conviction, and action not costly having someone out on the street. there is more to this than meets the eye appeared the bottom line is the lot was right but it can always be improved upon and we should. this is something democrats and progressives should never be afraid to say hey, it's something we got to do better but i for one thought what happened at the border during the biting years was broken and it was not we should have been doing as a matter of the substance nor as a matter of showing people our values. every democrat every progressive should want a secure border. i certainly do. but if a lot needs to be tightened up, laws are there to be improved upon all the time. rich: you go a little north in your city in manhattan you got

the trump administration canceling $400 million in grants to columbia university. what do you make of what's going on at columbia at the new york police department got involved last year. you think that's the right approach? >> has a bad situation all around. someone who supports a state of israel i do not agree with the netanyahu but i the importance of israel for this world but what happened at columbia it was an on-again off-again i felt the columbia administration did not handle it right. the way to handle this if you have peaceful protests, that's great. that's america starts to get violent if it starts to lead to destruction of property draw the line a strong hard line break columbia it did not do that did that they did not have a clear approach. that said taking away their funding, all american should bee worried about this we believe in freedom of speech we believe our universities are supposed allow all speech all sides seven you

start to penalize the university even if they made some mistakes in the way they handled their security, that's a very, very slippery slope. >> also in york you have the mayor's race. they would support mayor adams. 31% for former governor andrew cuomo. who would you vote for? >> i'm not going to get into that just yet there is a campaign to be had. i think was going to happen is someone is going to emerge as a leading alternative to andrew cuomo. i think you're going to see a real race here. andrew cuomo has got experience and skills but he has a slew of negatives. obviously many examples of harassment of women that he has been charged with the horrible things that happened on the nursing homes and the loss of life during covid. these are not your typical negative problems a candidate has these are massive problems i think he's going to be fine this is going to be a very competitive race. by definition one strong alternative has to emerge and that will happen over the next

three or four months. rich: and asked if the democrat party there's accusations the party does not have much leadership. do you think that is the case question rick should they beat new leadership within the democratic party? would you stand up for that again in three or hat in the ring? >> i do not want to talk about me i want to talk about ken martin who is the new head of the democratic national committee. i think this is exciting. here's a guy who believes in taking o her party back to the grassroots. i am the first is a democrat party is not particular coherent 2024 i love my party but for americans have said what you guys stand for? >> happened in 25? or 25 also. i get i do not think we should be ashamed to say were not what we need to be. but i think there's so much we can do right now. donald trump at elon musk to many, many americans are going into radical of a direction. i democrat party can get back to its base which is working people talk about kitchen table issues healthcare, lowering costs we did not do it in 2024 we can do in 2025.

middle east former u.s. ambassador to iraq james jeffrey america first policy institute senior policy advisor jacob. gentlemen, thank you for joining me this afternoon. mr. ambassador when you see these latest developments ongoing in the middle east, do you have any sense there could be a cohesive plan from the international community to figure out what is next in gaza? >> i do. i think it all fits under the larger plan of containing iran. he has been defeated in this regional war that we, israel, and other countries have done since the seventh of october at the building on hamas, gaza element has an iran nuclear element has a serious element in several others. the trump administration is moving out very, very quickly. forget about a pivot to asia put their focus on the middle east and that should be. rich: jacob do you see the focus on the middle east? this seems to be some difference between the united states and israel on one side.

you have the arab government on the other side the plans for redeveloping gaza what form should that take? >> absolutely for the partners in the reason the foreign policy is that player though things in life that money cannot buy so they put up the dollars to rebuild homes and public works. but they avoid the two critical aspects of the trump administration. first, any mention of hamas are they called for subsidy with the palestine authority which provides stipends to families of terrorists. the other is the population and addressing the fact that hamas has basically exploited homes, hospitals, schools, all to date attacks against israelis. i think the administration very serious producing the partners go back to the region, hopefully go back to the drawing board to reassess that. and just a footnote to what the ambassador said i think iran is absolutely the focus here. is is nota coincidence presidenp
