with the economy and inflation. just 21% according to that poll feel the condition of the economy is excellent or good. that is actually lower than at the tail end of president biden's term. and tariffs in particular create some uncertainty. the number of people who believe the actual health of the u.s. economy has fallen since january. 69% of registered voters believed tariffs on imports will make products more expensive. the administration maintains in the longer on the president's policies will boost the economy and to master production. >> we have got deregulation which lowers the cost of everything which is really lowering inflation and then we've got tariffs, which won't change inflation if we on-sure stuff. >> on effort to identify and cut wasteful government spending just 44% of americans feel the president is doing excellent or good but a bit more insight into that when voters were asked about their voting is on elon musk's work with d.o.g.e., 58% disapprove, that included 20% of republicans and 93% of

>> those engaging in this vicious violence that we have seen targeted at this american company, a tesla dealerships, tesla employees, and also innocent americans who have chosen to drive these vehicles. >> for the last two months and ever since tesla ceo elon musk began working with d.o.g.e., law enforcement has been responding to scenes similar to this attack at a las vegas tesla dealership and service center. the fbi is investigating as incidents have spread to multiple tesla storefronts and charging stations in at least 11 states. police in nearby lakewood, colorado, are looking for the person who cut all of the courts at a tesla charging station. a handful of arrests have been made around the country but so far the fbi has not said if they are connected, and this man, look at this, has been arrested for keying a woman's tesla in a san jose parking lot while she was in costco. we have seen a lot of that kind of thing on social media. and sandra, in case anyone is

wondering, the tesla vehicles record its surroundings for its owners, they put it in century mode. the car itself is gathering information that could be used against you. >> sandra: great point. alicia cooney on that. john? >> john: when i was in miami we used to do a stupid criminal of the week segment, tesla will likely help us do that, too. pam bondi, the attorney general, is bowing folks involved in the sort of vandalism and attacks are going to be prosecuted, listen to what she said, john. >> they are turning tesla owners, tesla dealerships. they are targeting elon musk, who is out there trying to save our country and it will not be tolerated. we are coming after you. we will find you. and if you are an organized group who is funding this, we are going to find you, too. >> john: what is your sense of this, john? is disorganized or just a bunch of lone wolf attacks?

>> that remains to be seen. that is the fbi job, and that is what brings up simple vandalism, hooliganism, things that can be punished by state and local police and elevates it into domestic terrorism. domestic terrorism occurs when it is not just violence but it is violence that is being used to try to coerce a government, to try to oppose a government, and it is quite clear that elon musk and his company are being targeted because of musk's work for the federal government. ask our democratic friends. if this were to happen to a biden cabinet secretary, wouldn't they have turned around and sent the fbi right on in? the other important thing is the fbi has a lot of resources to try to piece together whether there is some kind of coordinated effort, using the internet, money, coordination that would again elevate this from simple vandalism into some kind of larger domestic and terrorism concern. >> john: to your point about

government? are they trying to pressure the government? opposing the government's policies? going around attacking electrical vehicles all over the place, attacking tesla because of that they have become domestic terrorism. >> john: they certainly were not attacking teslas before elon musk started a aligning himself with donald trump. the governor of minnesota, tim walz, appears to be taking glee at what is happening with tesla. listen to what he said. >> they've got that little stock act. i added tesla to it to give me a little boost during the day. $225 and dropping. if you own one, we are not blaming you. you can take dental floss and pull the tesla thing off. >> john: they are celebrating the decline of tesla stock but at the same time our bill melugin reports the minnesota state retirement fund had 1,615,511 shares of tesla stock worth of market value at the time. this was june of 2024.

bureaucrats. a new state bill could affect homeschooling and parochial schools. joining us. i want to start with you first because you obviously will be directly impacted by this. you choose to homeschool your kids. they are now saying with this bill they want your information and potentially they want control over what and how you are teaching your kids. what is your reaction to it? >> absolutely not. they have no authority. they have no right to come into my home and tell me and my wife how we should raise our children. you know, the sponsor of this bill, one of the reasons she gave for promoting or pushing this bill is because she believes some homeschooling parents aren't doing it the right way. but if you look at what the public schools are doing in in illinois, we have less than 32%f students proficient in english leg which arts, only 27% who are

proficient in math. we spend $19,000 per student -- by the way, if i spent that kind of money on my kids, they would be living it up big time. we spend about, you know, $2,000 a year on our kids. but they only get 88% graduation rate. which means 228,000 students here in illinois are falling through the cracks. and at the same time one in ten students are sexually exploited by an adult in the school system. so sandra, they are failing our kids academically. they are failing to protect them physically. and they don't seem to care about protecting our daughters from confused men in their private spaces and in their sports. there's lots of good reasons -- >> sandra: dave, you are an incredible father and i don't think anybody doubts that who hears the passion in your voice for your eight children that you are trying to give the best education possible. and chris, these parents like

dave are saying wait, you want to take your failed public school model and bring that into my home? that is the problem and the issue so many of these parents are taking up. this was one of them. nicole george's joined us on this program. she has told us the story about the problems in the locker rooms of the public school, shannon attic is a big advocate for these parents, both of them. >> the serious thing, this set such a dangerous precedent for girls everywhere by allowing men, title ix. >> this is a radical attack on homeschool and just a civil attack on liberty. that is what we're dealing with an illinois illinois, the radical woke legislators from pritzker on down trying to dismantle liberty piece by piec. >> sandra: chris, you look at the illinois student proficiency scores for reading, 39%, math under 28%. to dave's point, what the heck

is going on in illinois? >> it's pretty amazing when you look at the landscape of all of this, the educational industrial complex is in full attack mode because they don't like it when we have independent thought. one thing about home educators, i actually -- my wife and i home educated our seven children also, so dave has got me beat by one, but this is a topic that is near and dear to my heart because the government schools are in abject failure, and i think the last thing that they need is more to do. i would say they probably need to sweep their own porch before they decide to try to come over and terrorize the homeschoolers and the private schoolers into getting them into the same failed policies that they are involved in. >> sandra: well said, chris. this is a op-ed in

"the wall street journal," had my never ending war on peered chris, dave, your immediate thought on this, kids don't belong to the government, they belong -- if that is even the right word -- to their families. the state exists to serve citizens, not schools. the left struggles with this. dave, i wonder how you are going to handle this. this did pass in that boat yesterday. we will see where this goes next but if you were demanded as a homeschooling parent to turn over all your private information, which apparently, as i read through that bill, include your religious affiliation, and more, are you going to turn it over? they are saying you would go to jail for 30 days if you don't. >> well, first of all, we are going to fight, fight, fight, this bill in the house and the illinois senate to try to stop it. then we are hoping the homeschooling defense association will challenge it if it does get passed into the law but i will tell you what, sandra, there are a lot of families like my own who will exit illinois rather than submit

still under seal and i have tried multiple times to get a hold of his attorney today with no luck so far. homeland secured he putting out a statement saying he has close connections to a known or suspected terrorist who is also a senior advisor to hamas. the secretary of state issued a determination this month that suri's activities and presence in the country render him deportable. georgetown university says it is aware of these developments but also unaware of any illegal activity. so far no protests popping up on campus, but this news only broke overnight. >> sandra: need to the rest is also the latest notable effort of a crackdown on a university. mohammed khalil, a legal permanent resident and student activist, university was arrested earlier this month. he is still in federal custody facing deportation, critics say the administration is only kind to send a message, despite claims by some he is being unjustly detained. >> part of the problem with it just being him right now is he is becoming a marketer, you know, for first amendment protections. this is nothing to do with the

first amendment. >> as i mentioned khalil is in custody in louisiana but the case will be handled in new jersey. >> sandra: mark meredith live out of washington, thank you. i want to get back to trey yingst. apparently there are sirens going off in israel at this moment. trey, what is going on? >> yeah, john, sandra, good afternoon. this is some bre breaking news. the houthi's in yemen have launched a ballistic missile toward israel and there are millions of people across this country headed into bomb shelters as we speak. we are looking at a live map. major population centers like jerusalem under siren alert right now. this is the second time in 24 hours that the iran-back houthis have launched a ballistic missile toward israel. last night around 4:00 a.m., israel's second-largest city of tel aviv, sirens were blaring, sending the entire population into shelters. the israeli air force says that missile was successfully intercepted, but these sirens

still go off to war and civilians to take cover. there is concern that shrapnel, when intersections take place, can rain down on the population below and that is whs happening right now, we are watching local media in israel. there is no indication this missile has been intercepted yet. but again those sirens are sounding across almost the entirety of central israel, coming up just to the edge of tel aviv. the entire city of jerusalem under alert right now as the iran-back houthis are launching yet another attack on the jewish state. just to give you some context, last saturday is when the american strikes against the houthis started. u.s. secretary of defense pete hegseth indicated the strikes were meant to send a message of deterrence to both iran and the houthis over a attacks on shipping vessels in the red sea and also over attacks on israel. remember over the past 17 months the houthis have been directly involved in this conflict and launched ballistic missiles and

drones at this city in tel aviv, nearly striking the u.s. consulate in tel aviv with a drone. the fact the american strikes are continuing almost a week later, it is an indication the houthis have not yet gotten the message and reports even just last hour indicated that americans were still striking the houthis in yemen and they are clearly responding in real time with this ballistic missile attack as we speak on israel, so it is an incredibly active moment for the region. we do know the uss harry truman is still in the red sea. this is where many of these jets have been taking off and striking those targets. at according to the pentagon, the target list is vast. not only leaders from the iran-backed organization are being hit but also the watching positions from ballistic missiles, weapons storage facilities and also other locations across rebel-controlled territory in yemen. civilians on the ground in the capital of sanaa in yemen describe what felt like an

directing education secretary linda mcmahon to begin the process to eliminate her department. let's bring in democratic strategist brought howard and former rnc commune occasion structure cassie smedile. the big question people have as they watch from donald trump to sign this executive order is the department of education really necessary? it shuffles funding around. what influence does it have on local districts? questions about what happened to program like special education, how much can the president do without congressional approval? >> it's a good question. the white house's big message on this is get the bureaucracy out of the way. let's get the money directly to the students, follow the students, get it into the classrooms, let the states have control, truly have control of the education process and linda mcmahon has talked about how those necessary things that it does can be moved to other departments, not unlike what marco rubio has done at the department of state. this isn't like the left is trying to fearmongering and say what will we do without these programs? a necessary program, like

grants, we can move that to another agency to take over. so there is a thoughtful approach to all of this. >> john: so what do you say about that? >> well, first of all, old-fashioned but i'm glad we are talking but in action the president is taking and not elon musk. >> john: let's get past elon musk, he's got nothing -- >> it's refreshing. >> john: don't even need to mention it. >> i think at the end of the day, democrats have an opportunity here to engage about having a conversation about the future of education. let's not focus on defending an institution and government bureaucracy. let's focus on outcomes. one of the conversations we can have, linda mcmahon when she was in the trump administration, willing to work together to make a deal. i think democrat miss an opportunity to say what are we going to do with the remaining priorities we all agree on? special education getting funding, earl states that may not have the capacity to handle certain types of education. how do we work together to make this happen? i think democrat can play and aa constructive role here while also criticizing the constitutional questions around

us. he is pushing the boundaries here. let's see how this goes in with the courts say but where is congress? where are the republicans in this conversation? i think that is what congressional data has are worried about. >> john: focusing on outcomes, to your point, here is what the progress report said in january 25 where we are, proficiency rates in math for fourth grade 39%. it goes down to 28% by eighth-grade, reading 31% which goes down to 30% by the eighth-grade, and here's what the gallup poll found. whether or not people are satisfied with public education, 24% are satisfied. 73% dissatisfied. that is a low watermark since 2001 when they first started measuring this. that is not good. something has got to change. >> that's right. that is disgusting. as a parent of's small children, we were just having this discussion of where to send kids to school, it is predicated on can you get to a neighborhood with a good school? if you can't, you are basically out of luck because we have failed our kids for more than a generation now.

♪ ♪ >> sandra: the push for peace in ukraine is the focus of an expected meeting in the coming days between the u.s. and russia and saudi arabia and now ukraine says they also plan to send a delegation. to talks with the u.s. negotiators. senior correspondent benjamin hall is here live in the new york studio and he is a new book out called "resolute." we will talk to him about that in just a moment. all right, actually, he is going to join us now, thought we were going to the general. benjamin hall, let's talk first about the possible ceasefire. and where you see this going next? somewhere from president trump he is hopeful this is eventually going to happen here. thoughts? >> there is definitely some progress at the moment and sitting in saudi arabia this weekend, both russians and we believe the ukrainians to look at what a ceasefire would look like. they initially said the 30-day ceasefire would mean no attacks on energy or infrastructure but that hasn't quite yet been determined. it is interesting that president trump spoke with president zelenskyy yesterday

and in that time president zelenskyy asked for patriot missiles and president trump said yes he would look at getting, see if he could find those from european countries. perhaps we are starting to see a little more pressure on russia's president trump starts to back ukraine because frankly it is the russians at the moment who are being a bit slow moving forward. ukrainians have already said they agree to an unconditional 30-day ceasefire. they just need the russians to join them, as well. >> sandra: gotcha. i mentioned general keane because here he is sharing his thoughts on putin's strategy. listen. >> this is the same strategy we have seen before. and he is quite good at it, frankly. this is a guy that is a convincing liar, and he talks nice and plays tough. he is talking nice because he is saying to the president, i want to renew our bilateral relationship. what he doesn't want from the president is any toughness because he is refusing to go to a ceasefire. >> sandra: your thoughts on that? >> yes, i mean, i think he is right, the russians for decades

of a better word, situation, and turn it for the positive, to change her life for the positive. >> that's right, and what i try to do is lay out in the book exact however's able to do that. there are numerous ways you can encounter something that is impossible to go through but you have to find the strength to get through it and i know from the believe as i've written in the book that everyone can do it, you just have to have enough trust that you can do so. so many people experience pain in their lives, traumatic events, whether that is even financial issues, anxiety, and i do think there are ways of getting through them and there are some really dark and difficult moments in my journey, and i write about them quite clearly in this book, than i about how i understood how bad things were and then i picked myself up, tried to gain my strength, and kept moving forward. the truth is today there is very little that really makes me afraid anymore because i know no matter how hard it is i can find a way through it. actually that is what i am trying to pass on because so many people gave that to me when i was recovering. i hope this book can pass that
