statement expressing condolences to the driver's family. the transit system which shuttles thousands of visitors around the sprawling resort each day has been shut down. police in nashville are still trying to figure out how former nfl quarterback steve mcnair and a 20-year-old woman were killed in his downtown apartment today. authorities will not say who they think is to blame but they are not looking for any suspects. authorities in south carolina now believe a teenaged girl and her father could be the latest victims of a serial killer terrorizing the area. they were shot in their family owned furniture and appliance store last week. the father was killed at the store and his daughter was taken to the hospital where she later died. police believe the murders are connected to others in the state but have not revealed the link. >> shannon: all right. and for all of your tennis fans out there, we are getting word that it is over at wimbledon.

roger federer has beaten andy roddick for the title. this gives federer a record 15 grand slam titles, go. sampras was there to see federer beat his record. federer edged out roddick after a hard fought fifth set that lasted 30 games. an unusually long set for any tennis match. independence day is becoming tax independence day for demonstrators around the country. it was round two for tea parties around the country protesting higher taxes, government pork and all the bailouts. in texas, two symbols of the antitax movement spoke at a rally near san antonio. and taxes and tea parties always a hot topic of debate at the fox nation. check out videos from a times square tea party. yes, they had one in new york

to the memorial. ten days since michael jackson's death and there is still a lot going on. while the memorial is going on, investigators still working to get to the bottom of what killed the king of pop and there are two court battles going. one over who gets custody of his three children and the other who gets control of his estate. tomorrow a judge is expected to rule on who gets temporary custody of the estate valued at more than 500 million bucks. we are still waiting on the toxicology reports to see what prescriptions jackson was on and if they killed him. the dea also interviewing all of his doctors and the state attorney general is involved in this investigation as well. meantime, scalpers hoping to make a quick buck are already posting ads on sites like ebay and craigslist, some offering up to $5,000 for tickets. the organizers of jackson's memorial say there is really no way to control what people decide to do with the second ticket because remember each

winner gets two. aeg hoping people will not want to attend the event alone so officials have is set up where they cannot sell both tickets because the winners have to pick up everything in person and a wrist band will be placed on their arm the the time. as far as the logistics of the planning here in downtown l.a., roughly 27 acres of downtown closed off on tuesday. streets all around the staples center will be shut down. about 5,000 people work in downtown l.a. so this will be a big mess. you can't have access to the area without a wrist band so it is going to be interesting to see as it july unfolds shannon. >> you will be there and we will tune in for your updated reports. thanks. speculation swirling as to the future of alaska governor sarah palin following her surprise resignation announcement on friday.

as well. they won at the pree supreme c, overturning sotomayor's decision. will that be enough to give her a major bump in the road? >> hard to see this decision derailing the sotomayor nomination. clearly the supreme court said she was wrong and decided by a 5-4 margin. there were four justices that more or less agreed with what judge sotomayor said. it as worry some decision and troubling from a conservative perspective but the supreme court said she was wrong. i will imagine they will ask her about that in the confirmation hearing. >> shannon: we got word that 71 new documents had been sent in. i spent friday afternoon and evening going through those from the puerto rican legal defense and education fund. a lot of people think that is a conservative group and they were involved in a number of cases that involved discrimination issues and actually trying to help the

minority candidates and were trying to force affirmative action quotas and other things. she was a member of the group at that time and also heading up the litigation department in the '80s with the organization. do you about think ties to that group will hurt her at all in a major way? >> we haven't seen anything that she is anything other than as advertised. no question she has a liberal political view on discrimination and affirmative action. i don't think there will be a dramatic shift in public opinion based on the new documents. at the same time, i think that the senate will ask about it. judge sotomayor has a long track record both as a judge and as we are findion out now as a litigator as well. >> shannon: used to be when a nominee would come up in the hearings in the senate it was all about abortion, that was the number one, roe v. wade. senators said they asked about that but a lot of folks are saying gun rights and the

second amendment are the new roe v. wade. a case that she was involved in at the second circuit, the maloney case in which she held that states can ban ownership of certain guns and weapons could land there when she is on the bench if confirm. >> a lot of people will be focused on the second amendment issue. there are other cases right now, in the lower courts and per collating up to the supreme court. look at the five, six, seven major issues of constitutional law, second amendment, gun control, gun rights definitely at the top of the list. >> shannon: and republicans saying still so much they don't know with the documents coming in. that will le their line that this is going too quickly. >> the democrats are fast tracking this. no question. they scheduled a hearing to begin a week from monday. that is particularly fast given

the volume of documents that we have seen so i can tell you there are a lot of folks on capitol hill and elsewhere spending a lot of time like you have going through the sotomayor paper trail, trying to find decisions, legal briefs, speeches, really anything that gives insight into how justice sotomayor would think about and interpret the constitution. >> not much of a fourth of july for the staffers, i'm sure they were knee deep in paper work. former president bush was a huge draw for residents at the let freedom ring 2009 festivities. he expressed gratitude for the invitation and joked about how this year was different from past holidays spent at the white house and how his wife laura is helping him to ajust to civilian life. >> she says yeah, you are free to take out the garbage and free to mow the lawn.

the wimbledon men ms title. a record 15 titles, surplussing the old record of 14 held by pete sampras. two monorail trains have collided early this morning at disney world in orlando. one drivinger is dead and the other was taken to the hospital. five guests and two employees were also on board the trains at the time but none of them were injured. it is not clear yet what caused the accident. walt disney world issued a statement offering condolences to the victim's family. the 15 miles of track connect the magic kingdom to epcot and the rest of the theme park. in 1991 a train collided with a maintenance vehicle but no one was seriously injured in the earlier accident. marion barry arrested again. this time, no surveillance video has surfaced yet that we know of anyway. laura ingle has the latest. >> we will be getting more details about what happened

last night in just a few minutes at least his account. marion barry's press secretary called a news conference at wilson building in washington, d.c. to give a statement about her boss' arrest and the misdemeanor charge of stalking he picked up last night. it happened less than 30 minutes before the big fireworks show was set to begin in the nation's capital. i spoke with park officials who told me that a woman in a car flagged down a parked police officer on patrol and claimd that a man in another car was stalking her. the arresting officer at first didn't know that the man they were questioning was the fourth term mayor who has been in trouble with the law before. after questioning the woman and barry they placed him under arrest and charged him with misdemeanor stalking. we will find out more about that soon. barry has had several legal runins. the most high profile when politician was busted in a 1990

very well by saying i can't take the heat i'm getting out. it is not that strong. again, i think she is probably a lot smarter than many of us give us credit for. i think she figured out that she is not electable as president or another vice presidential run and figuring out another role for herself. i think in that sense that is the only way in which you can actually make sense out of this decision. >> how does this affect the gop as a whole. a rough couple of weeks with senator enson and governor sanford and she is another one of their stars that seems to be doing something that a lot of us can't understand. >> for a minority party we find ways to stay in the news whether we want to or not. >> top of the headlines. >> congress will be back in session and john boehner and eric cantor and when they are having meetings they are not going to say what are we going to do next because sarah palin is no longer governor of a state that is very far away.

the party will move on and she will be a part of that debate upcoming but we don't know which way. >> i think this is good for the republican party because i think this makes her less and less of a viable candidate for president. i don't think she was ever electable. makes room for other republican presidential candidates. a guy that i really fear as a republican nominee is a guy by the name of john thune. could easily be a guy that could just catch fire. there are candidates like this not getting a lot of attention because sarah palin sucks away some of the oxygen. for a democrat, we would love to see her in the news and as a nominee. this takes her out of the game. >> yes or no, does she run in 2012? >> absolutely no. >> doug? >> given the nature of it, i can't give a yes or no. stay tuned. she will make news over the next two years. >> i wish the answer was, yes.
