heartland of america. and taking a shot at history. an old pro tries to show the kids how it's done. but can top losses defy the passage of time and take home the title at the british open? first, disturbing news, a militant group in afghanistan releasing a video of an american soldier captured while serving in the country. here is still picture from that video fox news decided not to play it on air. in it, the captured soldier, robert berg doll says he's scared he won't be able to go home and return to his fiancee and his family. the private is 23 years old, he's from idaho and part of an alaska based infantry regman with the army. and he spoke how he missed his family and americans have the power to bring the soldiers home from the war in afghanistan. and the defense department calling it a propaganda video, saying that the taliban is

exploiting the soldier and breaking international law. and the military says the private disappeared july 2nd, and in the province near the border near pakistan and said to have walked off the base with three after fans and the military is staying tight lipped with the details because they say they don't want to give any information to the taliban. one of the reasons why we are not showing the video. well, today, the private's family released a statement saying, we hope and pray for our son's safe return to his comrades and then to our family. we appreciate all the support and expressions of sympathy shown to us by our family, friends and others across the nation. here at fox we'll bring you the story as soon as it develops. more developing news coming from afghanistan. n.a.t.o. saying at least 16 people were killed after a helicopter crash in the southern part of the country. it happened in an airfield in kandahar. no military personnel were hurt, but this is the second

deadly crash in less than a week involving a russian made helicopter operated by a civilian contractor. the deadly attacks on two motels in indonesia used the same members and equipment as a military islamic group. investigators announcing as they look into a new one at another hotel. nine people were killed and 50 others hurt after a suicide bomber in the marriott in the business district and were considered to be safe. this happened in jakarta, indonesia's capital city. the country has the largest muslim population and we are joined by rina ninen, hi reena. >> hi, julie. indonesia police spent the day trying to reconstruct the faces of the suicide bombers involved in the attacks on the ritz carlton and the marriott hotels here in jakarta. they're hoping that they can

establish their identities and they might be able to determine if the group is behind the deadly attack that killed nine people and injured more than 50, including six americans. the lead suspect right now is a malaysian man, a man who is believed to be the leader after break away group, and yesterday investigators thought perhaps that one of the suicide bombers might have been a female. today, they're saying that that woman was actually among the victims. reconstructing the bombers faces, the police are hoping that possibly hotel employees might be able to tell if one of the bombers was living inside of room 1808 at the marriott hotel and that's where police believe that the bombs were constructed. and the planning of the attacks played days before it happened. in fact, in the past, the fbi has helped investigators determine clues, provide machines and equipment, and even educate investigators

>> a killing spree has investigators calling this one one of the worst crimes they've ever seen. six people are dead, including two teenagers and it's believed most of the victims are from the same family. police have charged this man, 30-year-old jacob schaeffer with homicidement now, investigators say schaeffer was sitting on the porch when police arrived at one of the murder scenes. five people, including schaeffer's wife were found dead in two homes near

fiatville, tennessee and the 6th body was found at a business about 30 miles away in huntsville, alabama. police say the motive was domestic and this is one of the worst crimes they've ever seen. well, the daughter of a murdered florida couple says that she will carry on her parent's legacy and take care of their 13 adopted children, many of whom have special needs. melanie and bird billings were shot to death in the pensacola home earlier this month. it was a home specially built for children with physical disabilities. well, now, 26 year old ashley mar come says that she and her husband will move into the house and together, they will raise those adopted kids and their own. ashley says that was her mom's wishes. as many as eight people are now held in connection with the home invasion murders, including one juvenile, the police say robbery was the motive. well, a couple of new developments to tell you about the in murder of steve mcnair, investigators say his mistress shot and killed the

quarterback on the 4th of july and turned the gun on herself. cops say she bought the gun from this man, adrian gilliam, a convicted felon. now, his father is speaking out, saying his son has been quote, keeping straight since he was released from prison seven years ago and controversy over mcnair's estate. he didn't have a will. a judge gave his wife, you see her here, control over his assets. the couple have two children, but we're told she did not list mcnair's other two children from a previous relationship as hers. and at least one of those two children will reportedly put a claim in for part of the estate. complete chaos when two light rail trails full of passengers crashed into each other this weekend in san francisco. the accident sent passengers flying everywhere. 48 people in all went to the hospital. this is the third major transit accident to happen across the country since may, by the way and now, authorities are scrambling to figure out why so many

accidents are happening. laura ingle here in the studio live with a closer look. >> hi, julie are it's disconcerting news to any travelling when repeated stories of crashes come up and tonight we're learning more about what investigators think might have happened to cause two more massive rail cars to plow into each other, this time in the city by the bay. national transportation safety board says the operator switched from automatic to manual mode before he should have and they made an announcement as part of the policewomenty report on the cause of the crash that injured 48 and the operator apparently made the switch 20 seconds before impact. the n.t.s.b. has been busy this weekend. a spokesman told me earlier they've been working on the cause of the train crash in washington d.c. last month where nine people were killed. yesterday, they set two trains close together and backed them up to see when each operator would have seen each other and some more to be done on that

may subway trolley crash in boston where 24-year-old operator blew through a red signal while he was texting on his control cell phone. that comes in the committee are trying to find better ways to improve public safety and prevent more crashes. commuters concerned about what's going on, taken the initiative to record train operators and this cell phone of a d.c. train operator allegedly taking a nap while it controls another passenger caught a miami-dade bus driver texting while on the job. and distracted rail operators have been a major concern recently which is why the federal railroad administration issued an emergency order restricting on duty railroad employees were using cell phones and other distracting electronics device. so, it goes on. >> all right, thank you so much, laura ingle. >> well, a 12-year-old girl attending her father's funeral won a custody battle between the stepmom and biological

is this affecting the conference? >> well, the state legislature, the national governor's association made the decisions by concensus, not a vote and so, even with half the nation's governors here, they say that they're-- they could determine which policies enjoy broad support and which aren't worth pursuing. >> and what about those that did attend. >> this afternoon the governors met in a closed door session, told it was heated and governors on both side of the aisle expressing concerns about unfunded federal mandates and how they would impact sit budgets during the recession and they also talked about improving the state i.d. system in particular, driver's licenses, a lot of governors voicing concerns about the so-called real i.d. legislation that would impose uniform guidelines on driver's licenses and sending up electronic data bases and instead supporting a plan

and the prime minister wants netanyahu to freeze all lands claimed by the palestinian. he told there will be no limits on jewish construction anywhere in a so-called unified jerusalem. to india now where secretary of state hillary clinton facing tough challenges during the second day of her visit there. this is clinton's first trip to india as america's top diplomate and one of her top priorities is addressing the country's impact on climate change. india is one of the biggest polluters and today, it took a firm stance against the key proposal from the u.s. and other western nations. our james rosen with the story now from new delhi, india. >> julie, it was supposed to be a feel-good event with secretary of state clinton and special envoy touring a green building. the low carbon built by itc was a testament to the

up a special way to deal with nonviolent veterans who get in trouble, trouble with the law, they call it veteran court. casey stegall joins us live from los angeles with more. hi, casey. >> good to see you. these courts are modeled after drug courts that we have seen sprouting up in various cities throughout the country and over the last several yers, there have been a lot of reports out there how successful those particular programs are and that's where this whole concept was born. the idea also two fold, to provide legal services for a special segment of society like veterans who committee nonviolent crimes, but also to help unclog the overcrowded consumers and prisons and judges would use a softer criminal justice approach to rehabilitate offenders not incarcerate them. now, nevada and illinois just passed this legislation, but cities like anchorage, alas sta and buffalo, new york, are already doing it. >> they need special attention because special things have
