consequences are nothing short of deadly. [captioning made possible by fox news channel] captioned by the national captioning institute --www.ncicap.org-- greta: tonight, rush limbaugh goes "on the record" in a rare interview. did you see the press conference? >> before we get into the health care aspect, we learned last night that president obama did listen to reverend wright. greta: why do you say that? >> on the last question, he was more animated and more passionate on that last question about the arrest. calling the officer stupid. i'm telling you, there is an
10:01 pm
undercurrent. i think that obama is largely misunderstood by many people. you look at his associations, the people that mentored him madder. we are finding out that he has a chip on his shoulder. he talked about health care and he never talked about the greatness of our health care. greta: dates is in his house and he shows identification. -- gates is in the house and he shows identification. >> we don't know what happened. the facts are unknown and obama said he did not know. yet, the cops acted stupidly. look at what is going on. we have an attack on our private sector. this is a purspurposeful intent to destroy the private sector. we have numerous problems.
10:02 pm
the job numbers are out and they are ouup. the president of the u.s. does not comment on things like that. that whole thing is a set up. he confesses he did not know was going on with the situation with the police officer. that caught that he called stupid cave mouth to mouth resuscitation to reggie lewis. greta: the police officer has an extraordinary history. >> let's face it, president obama is black and i think he has a chip on his shoulder. there are elements in this country he does not like and he is using the power of the presidency to remake the country. he apologizes for this country everywhere he goes.
10:03 pm
he never once refers to, talks about american exceptional listen. we have the greatest health care system in the world. no one leaves this country for health coverage. everyone comes here. he lied through his teeth i don't know how meantimes during that press conference. he is either uninformed about the details or does not care about them or e has this ideological theory. it is really not about health care. one thing that i can't tell people is that this is not about health care or health insurance. did you notice the change in terms last night? greta: what does that mean? >> everyone thinks that we need better health care. we have a better health care than anywhere else in the world. his plan is health insurance. there is no way that we can
10:04 pm
ensure our health. we cannot insure our health. what health insurance is is you taking the risks and you pay a premium of what you think it is worth to guard against something catastrophic. greta: it is gambling. >> we have great health care. we don't need to redo this. there's nothing fundamentally wrong with this. he is running is wrong. we have health care that is better than anywhere else in the world. he doesn't talk about this. and he talks about his plan, he is lying through his teeth. we are bringing the deficit down, we are saving the economy. this is very difficult for me to say because it is drastic but he is doing the exact opposite. president obama and the democrats are destroying the u.s. economy. they are purposefully doing it, i believe. the real reason he wants health
10:05 pm
care is because when he gets it, that is the single greatest power the government will have to regulate every aspect of our lives and that is what obama is and that is what the liberal wing wants, total control. these peoplthese people want ase liberty and freedom for the american people as possible. they can deny people coverage based on their life styles. they can dictate what you eat or don't eat. this is a dastardly thing that is being done. he says things during the course of interviews that to scare people to death. during the abc infomercial, i could not believe that american citizens stood up, a woman asked him, my 100-year-old grandmother needed a pacemaker. the first special said, no, she
10:06 pm
is 100 years old. they went to another doctor and they put it in. she is 105. this woman asked, are we going to take into account some one's spirit and love life? >> obamobama said, they will be better off taking a pain pys0 hes born and who does not, who has end of life problems that are dealt with or not.
10:07 pm
this is hideous, this is not about health care, this is about control. my point here is that the joblessness is on purpose. if health insurance is not portable. what is the best thing that you could do for yourself? create unemployment. the more people that are unemployed, the more people that lose their health insurance, the more people who are scared to death. there's something in this country telling them every day from coffee, nicotine, to whatever it is. all of this destruction is taking place, redistribution of wealth. he wants to return the nation to its rightful owners. you will get the best coverage in the world and millionaires will pay for.
10:08 pm
that is not true. it will cost everyone money. everyone is not one to be covered for everything that happens to them. that is what people think he is offering and he is not. we talk about rights, health care is not a right. if government can take it away from you, it is not a right. they can take away your health care if they decide that you are too old, too sick. that is where we are headed. the only way he can make any pretense of saving money. i think that he is a bad guy. greta: a bad guy or a different ideology? >> this is the most radical liberal that as a sin to this degree of power in the country. i have never seen anything like this. we are destroying the economy. he is not fixing it.
10:09 pm
the wealth that has been lost, you look at the johnson have been lost. let's look at it in another way. -- you look at the jobs that have been lost. tax revenue has been lost. we are running with his own plans 10 trillion dollars of deficits over the next 10 years. there's no money coming in. tax receipts are down, the states are experiencing the same thing. if people are out of work, they are not paying taxes. they're not even concerned. the purpose of taxes is to raise revenue. that is not his purpose. the tax code is to reorient a society, punish achievement. we are printing money, we are printing money that people not even born yet have not even earned. that is out in debt we are. this is not sustainable. we cannot go on this way. i will go even further, i will give you your headline for the
10:10 pm
show. i maintain to you that no one who is economically literate, economically experience and understanding would do what we are doing is their objective was growth in jobs. the world has proved it historically over and over. we have tried this on a limited range before and it doesn't work. we know how to stimulate growth and jobs. you incentivize people in the private-sector printer you reduce the financial burden, to cut their taxes, you get out of their way in terms of regulation. we need people going back to work. we need people working. we need the economy coming back. that is not happening. they're talking about is that a stimulus. the excuse is that 8 was not intended to work this year. there's nothing in the stimulus bill that is about job creation. -- the excuse is that it was not
10:11 pm
intended to work. it is not working. there is an easy fix to this, it is the exact opposite of what obama is doing. this has to be being done purposely. greta: up next, rush says that your freedom is being taken away. he has some nasty words for the media. even after the press conference, you are just as confused as we are about health care. never fear. does two jobs... at once. one: kills weeds to the root. two: forms a barrier, preventing new ones for up to four months.
10:12 pm
roundup extended control. i had a great time. me too. you know, i just got out of a bad relatio... it's okay. thanks. goodnight. goodnight. (door crashes in, alarm sounds) get out! 10:14 pm
the american economy is a great thing. no one can wave a magic wand and turned a couple nonce and manipulate a bunch of levers and cause it to change direction. -- turn a couple of phenomnobs. everything about the economy in this country is complex. the american people are very resourceful. and some point, people will say that they are not happy about what's going on and tired of waiting on obama. the, may come back. it might pick up. -- they might come backe. the economy will come back but
10:15 pm
the jobs will be a lagging factor. that is all that matters. if the economy is coming back, there are no jobs with it, who is it coming back for? we could be picking back up due to the resourcefulness of the american people. i guarantee you that when that happens, obama and his guys are going to take credit for it, the stimulus worked, blob blob blob. -- blah blah blah. republicans need to lay the groundwork for the elections in 2010. it is not complicated. do the opposite of this. talk about american exceptional an-- talk about american exceptional listen, greatness. -- exceptional wisdism, greatne.
10:16 pm
i love this country. as human beings, we are no different than the human beings in anywhere else in the world. there have been families, clubs, countries, thousands of years older than us and we have outdone everyone in almost everything that lives in the history of the world. that is not because our dna is different or special human beings, it is because of our freedom, the rights that we have. we are being having the freedom interrupted. we are having a tax on it. the greatness in this country, the people are under assault right now. it angers me because this is the exact opposite of what we need to be doing to come out of this recession. printing money, 12 trillion dollars in debt. last night, he talks about how
10:17 pm
he is reducing deficits. there was a big disconnect. i watched this thing with my mouth open. the press, this is the sorriest time in my lifetime. and jim demenint said that thiss obama's waterloo. the press has sacrificed their professionalism, ethics, it is all gone. their total reason is to prop him up. they are not reported the details of his plans, his policies. they're looking at it as a horse race. they have some countdown clocks for the press conference. these people sit around with the tingles up their legs all day, they marvel at how obama is so
10:18 pm
smooth and elegant. they are not informing anyone about the details of his policies and yet 53% oppose this health care plan. who is telling the people? he was telling the people what is in it? alternative media, your network, the conservative bloc network. the mainstream media has become nothing more than stenographers for rahm emanuel. it is breathtaking to see a sacrifice of every characteristic that makes quality journalism. greta: up next, rush says the president was making up numbers out of thin air. the radio powerhouse has his own plan for health care. hey, it's me, water. did you know that when you filter me at home
10:19 pm
i'm pretty much the same as i am in a plastic bottle? except that you'll save, like, $600 bucks a year. but other than that, we're pretty much the same. pur. good, clean water. in a long line of amazing performance machines. this is the new e-coupe. this is mercedes-benz. here's the spacious room where he relaxed with the free paper... the desk where kevin took advantage of the free internet... and where he grabbed a free hot breakfast

10:22 pm
the heritage foundation went and did an analysis of the house plan and they have found that 83 million americans would lose their private health insurance and before start of the public auction. you say people would be able to keep their insurance. -- 83 million americans would lose their private health insurance and deforest to except the public option -- and be forced to accept the public option. if you take the profit out of any private sector business that has to compete with the government, the private sector doesn't exist. if he is going to attack profit in the insurance companies, they are gone. businesses already want to off load a lot of their health care plans to this public auction.
10:23 pm
i would also ask for a follow-up after he asked the doctors to do organ removal some to line their pockets. i think that this comment, he is asked a question and he lays into pediatricians. well, we have to do it smarter, more efficient. you take your kid in, sore throat, the doctor says, here is the reimbursement fee schedule. he takes the tonsils out even if they don't need to come out. the pediatrician doesn't take the tonsils out, they recommend a surgeon. he would have to get a kick back from the surgeon. just to choose doctors of doing unnecessary things for profit.
10:24 pm
doctors do do a lot of unnecessary things but it is because of malpractice. they do all of these unnecessary test because there are lawyers waiting to jump on any of them who misdiagnosed. if you want to cut costs, put limits on damages in malpractice cases. greta: there are limits. >> there are not enough. we are wasting one trillion dollars a year just on malpractice. i made up my number. the trillion seems to be the number that works these days. back in the campaign, it was 250,000. we spen650,000 does he not unded
10:25 pm
that this is the best health- care system in the world -- does he not understand that this is the best health care system in the world? i am not saying that they're not savings that can be made but i am getting sick and compared -- no one leaves this country for health care. everyone in the world comes here for their health care. there's nothing wrong here structurally with the care that we get. this is an insurance problem, a catastrophic problem. this is not the way to fix health care. greta: how would you fix it? >> the long term, easy. the answer is easy. health care other than catastrophic, accident, severe illness, health care has to be priced the same way a hotel room
10:26 pm
is for a car is. we don't have insurance for hotels, we don't have insurance for airplane travel, we have it for health care because the government has been paying it or insurance have been painted for 50 years and people have assumed it is their right to have that. -- for insurance companies have been paying for it for 50 years. catastrophic insurance is what the government should provide for -- the ordinary everyday doctor visits, checkups and so forth, paid for it yourself or go by your own policy that you can afford that covers what you want covered. then have the catastrophic step that everyone is worried about

[ door closes ] [ footsteps ] [ man sighs ] whew! a lot goes through your mind after an accident. but with liberty mutual, insurance issues won't. man: man! because we offer unlimited rental coverage, new car replacement, and accident forgiveness to help ease your mind. and that's our policy. liberty mutual insurance. are more than words here. it's personal. i have diabetes. rodney's kid too. so we're so proud to manufacture... the accu-chek® aviva meters and test strips... here in the u.s.a. plus, we've proven you'll waste 50% fewer strips... when you use our meter, which means greater savings... for people with diabetes, like me.
10:30 pm
greta: suppose a woman does not go for annual visits and has a lump in her breast. that would not be a catastrophic visit, it turns into a catastrophic problem when you don't do the annual visit. what about that situation? >> what do you want to do with that situation? greta: ibm posing a problem. >> the premise of the problem is where we are going wrong. -- greta: i am posing a problem.
10:31 pm
>> all of a sudden one day, they discovered a lump and the treatment is expensive. what are we doing about this? but obama is going to do, we are going to have to limit our coverage. you did not live right. you did not do when you're supposed to do. what did you do that caused this. we have put out guidelines to keep you from getting this. greta: there is one woman who has the lump and is irresponsible. >> i'm not saying she has been irresponsible. if she does not want to go to the doctor, she does not have to go to the doctor. why should everyone else have to pay for her? >> greta: there are some people who make the election not to go to a doctor. there are some people cannot afford to go to the doctor and
10:32 pm
it becomes catastrophic and then it is enormously expensive for whoever. >> i think that there is a myth in this country about all the people who don't get medical treatment. that is the sales pitch here. i talked to a number of doctors, surgeons, er, intensive care. the patient comes in, they get treated. they makes arrangements to pay off over time. people get treated. you walk into the emergency room, by law you have to get treated. people get health care in this country, whether they have health care insurance. we have the best health care in the world. we don't need to make china fixes based on assumptions that there are many people getting sick and not being treated. that is not the case. greta: in your opinion, there's
10:33 pm
nothing to be fixed in the health care system from the government's standpoint? >> well, we don't need an overhaul. we certainly don't need obama's reforms. we don't need the government running health care. we don't need the government telling doctors what specialty they're going to go into. how are you going to cover these people with no doctors? he is putting a squeeze is on doctors. he is going to squeeze doctors' fees. the plan is not about health care, it is about control. his plan is about reorienting the american society. this is the single one thing that government could then control over every aspect of our lives and our behavior. deal with catastrophic, that is what scares everyone.
10:34 pm
it's getting health care coverage was important, 12 million people, this is the number that i found that are literally too poor to have insurance. for $29 billion to cover those 12 new people for a year. -- those people for a year. if health care is so important and these people without health insurance and that coverage is so important, why not add $30 billion in the stimulus to insure them? why one trillion dollars to take everyone out of their current plans and enroll them in a public auction that no government official will be part of? greta: that might be more cost- efficient. >> some of them are illegal aliens. greta: i take to the umbrella
10:35 pm
number. >> 12 million people who don't have insurance could have it is just $30 billion of stimulus money had been spent on it. this is not about insuring people. i know this sounds radical itself. the he talks about all of the great plans, and this is true. they have a smorgasbord of health care plans that they can choose from all paid for by the taxpayer. not one of them is run by the government. every health care plan a senator chooses or a congressman chooses is run by a private sector. the government does not run their health care. they are not going to opt out of
10:36 pm
that and join us in the public auction. it is not going to be any good. there is one for you, i read this yesterday. under obama's plan, would ted kennedy have got the treatment for 1his brain tumor? greta: this meant that he would not get it under the government plan? >> obama said as much in his abc special. it would cost too much, given a pain pill. if the government is going to decide who gets health care and who doesn't, why invest all of the money to treat someone with a terminal disease. the government is going to say
10:37 pm
this is not worth our investment. you old people have a duty to die and get out of the way. the vast majority of health care is spent by the elderly. that makes sense, they monitor their health more closely. young people, they are not as concerned about dying, they are worried about a severe traffic accident or some other catastrophe. they don't go to the doctor as much. they don't spend as much time the doctor's office as elderly people do. anything the government can take away from you is not a right. if they can deny you health care, which they're going to, everyone is not going to be covered. it cannot possibly be a right. what was wrong with this press conference last night is that it sounded like everyone will get
10:38 pm
whatever health care they want, it will have to be done with your tests, may be less tonsils taken out. everyone will get coverage and a couple of million years lookin-- millionaires pay for it. greta: what to do you make of the big push? >> this is so that people won't look in it. the members of congress and members of the administration are going out and doing town meetings and the constituents know more about what is in the plan than they do. one was laughed at by his audience. the health and human services secretary was told "you are not
10:39 pm
making my country's socialist." they live in a bubble and the thing that everyone loves obama. the magic is not working anymore. he cannot pull it off. the power his personality cannot pull this off. what has obama done for you? what has he done for you? what has he done to you? has he made easier for you to get a job or more difficult it? obviously, he has made it more difficult. there's another reason why he doesn't want -- i cannot prove this. rahm emanuel and obama will bring up some of these blue dog democrats and say, you have seen what has happened to some of these congressmen at town meetings, if you don't get this
10:40 pm
done, you go home in august, you do your town meetings and meet with constituents, they are going to rip you to shreds over this and there will be footage of it and it will be on television and you will be a laughingstock. greta: we know that you want more of rush, you will get it. we will have more tomorrow night. next up, we will have answers to your questions about health care reform. will your taxes go up or not? move the toughest stains the first time. new tide stain release. available in duo pack, liquid or powder. 10:47 pm
he suggest that the middle-class will not have to pay for the plan. there are many discussions right now coming out of the house and senate about a possible tax, a surtax on health care benefits. there has been all kinds of discussions about whether that should be to 1 50,000 or more, 350. the president has suggested that perhaps a million dollars or higher. the short answer to your question is, ththere does not appear as though there will be a middle-class tax increase related to health care reform but there will be no cap on premiums. that means if you are someone who does need health insurance and he will be penalized if you don't get health insurance according to some of these plans, he will have to pay for it. there will be no cap on premiums. you could still wind up paying for it in your health insurance premiums. greta: is it possible that you

won't have as much choice? your employer might opt out and you have to go to the government? >> that is a huge concern. they're talking about a health care exchange because what they want to try to do is create competition. one would be a government auction although that is not getting a great deal of support. the theory is that if there are other cheaper options, maybe employees will opt out of their health-care coverage and that will change the status of private insurance in this country. the other issue is that there could be a severe expense for small business owners and it might incentivize small business owners to hire people on a part- time basis to avoid having to pay for some of those health care based taxes. it has a lot of very important consequences for employment as well as employees and that is something to keep a close eye
