and is this the end, or is this beginning? former alaska governor sarah palin says goodbye. the ex governor in her own words on her resignation, the media, and more. and we have the tapes. we have been waiting for them, and now, we have them. a call placed by a good samaritan about a possible break-in at the home of harvard professor gates. >> she had noticed two gentleman trying to get into the house. 1:04 am
greta: "on the record" went on the road today. how soon after? what is the soonest he spoke to officer crowley? >> he called me with a couple of hours of that incident. greta: when did he tell you? >> he asked me if i had a few minutes to listen to him, and he said he wanted to tell me a story about what happened a little while ago. we have been close friends, and we talk all the time, and he ran it by me, and i said, "jimmy, you had all of the probable cause that i think you needed it."
1:05 am
"you did the right thing," and he said, "i had no choice," and we talked a little bit about what kind of fallout there might be. we talked about any time anybody from one of the colleges, especially harbor, might get in trouble, you kind of read about it in the newspaper, and " we thought it would play well here in boston in the short term -- and we thought it would play well here in boston in the short term. whether it will reach the magnitude and significance it has, but it has. greta: what did he tell you had happened? >> he was not dispatched. officers were dispatched, but they were not close, and he was one half of a block away. being the officer that he is, volunteering for trouble and wanted to help out any time he can, he could have kept

and playing the race card, if you will, and all he was trying to do was find out what was going on in that home and making sure there was not an active break-in. greta: was officer -- when they are inside the house or when they had come back out onto the porch? >> my understanding is that it happened initially at the door and then went on inside. there were various references, and when he got outside, he put on a little show, i guess, for the people who were out there. greta: did officer crowley tell you the exact words that he heard? what do you recall? >> "this is what happens to a black man in america." "you are harassing 8." he crossed the line when he brought jimmy's mother into it -- "you are harassing me."

mrs. crowly iey is owendd an apology. jimmy's mom is owed an apology. that is who needs the apology in this case in my opinion. greta, what was said? -- greta: what was said? >> to actually come out and insinuate that his mother had any role in this -- remin greta: i am confused. what did he say about his mother? >> jimmy said, " if you want to

you all want to run your businesses more efficiently, so we've brought in a team of experts to help. one suggestion is to make your shipping more efficient with priority mail flat rate boxes from the postal service. call or go online for a free supply and up to $160 in offers from authorized postage vendors. shipping's a hassle! weighing every box... actually, with flat rate boxes you don't need to weigh anything under 70 pounds. if it fits, it ships for a low flat rate. ok, but i ship all over the country. you can ship anywhere in the country for a low flat rate.
1:14 am

1:15 am
here in washington tonight. fox news has learned that professor gates and james crowley will meet at the white house. the sergeant suggested the idea of sitting down with the professor and professor gates for a beer. we will let you know more when we know more. wendy murphy as the lawyer representing the woman who called 911. we went to cambridge to be seen, and murphy went on the record. ok, wendy, nice to see you, as always. your client is what relationship to this story? >> she is the 911 collar, the woman decided that she saw something suspicious and called 911. greta: she saw something suspicious, or someone else did? >> she was at lunch, and she came upon an older woman who
1:16 am
said, "i do not know what i am seeing, but i am concerned. maybe we should call the police." older people often do not have cell phones, so my client used hers. in a nutshell, she said, "i see something i am concerned about. it seems two men are trying to force their way into a home." she also said, "icc's cases, maybe even live here. i do not know." -- "c. suitcases -- "i see suitcases. maybe they even live here." she also said, "i do not know what i emceeing." greta: do you know how close she got to the house? -- "i do not know what i am seeing."
1:17 am
>> the bush was described as being in front of her view. the men she saw had their backs to her, so she was very clear that she could not really tell too much about what was going on, but the most important part of the store, greta, is that she did not say, "ice dpw blackmon," because from here, she could not tell their rates -- she did not say, "i see two black men," because from here, she could not tell their race. the idea that she said it was black men is totally ridiculous, and it really hurt her, it is you can hear in the 911 tape, and she says, "i see two men," and it is the officer says, ", are they white, black, or hispanic?" -- "are they white, black, or
1:18 am
hispanic.?" -- hispanic? the word "black" never came out of her mouth. we are not revealing the things that she heard. she heard a lot of yeah alegria she heard professor gates yelling, -- she heard a lot of yelling. even correcting the record she is worried might create more controversy. she is glad is working to an amicable resolution. she respects the police. she respects professor gates. she is glad the truth is out there, but she wants to move on. greta: in terms of whether the arrest itself may have been disorderly, did she describe it to you that it was an out of control screening at any point of all -- screaming at any point
1:19 am
at all? >> she does not believe the police acted inappropriately. without describing the content of what she heard, there was only one person she heard screaming, and that was professor gates. greta: up next, you are about to blow a gasket. is a man who works at a bank that you help to bail out about to get a bonus of how much? you will find out. plus, sarah palin unleash. the ex-governor is going after some people, including the

[captioning made possible by fox news channel] captioned by the national captioning institute --www.ncicap.org-- greta: caution. your head might explode when you hear this story. as you may remember, you bailed out citibank. guess what? a top trader there could end up getting a bonus worth $100 million. yes, your hard right, $100 million, just one man, $100 million -- you heard right. joining us is steve moore with "the wall street journal" editorial page. >> he actually has made a lot of
1:23 am
money for citi, but this is a company that lost tens of billions of dollars last year. of course, we own it. it is a company that was bailed out by the federal government, and now, he wants this $100 million paid out. even though he was making money for the company, when you are talking about that they were bankrupt, i do not see where you get the nerve to ask for $100 million. greta: this guy is not starving if he does not get a full $100 million. a percentage of how much money he makes when he traits? >> yes, and he has been a spectacularly successful trader -- how much money he makes when he trades. he called the oil marker. he made hundreds of millions of dollars for the company.
1:24 am
i do not have a problem with that. i do not have a problem with this past bonuses, but i do have a problem asking for bonuses when the company went down the drain, and the company would not even exist today if it were not for a taxpayer bailout. greta: a successful trader, making all of this money. in some perverse way, he made it easier. >> i am sure if he were here, he would make that case, but here is the bigger picture that i think the viewers need to be aware of. we bailed out 10 of the 50 largest banks korea i suspect that you're going to start to see these ceo's and directors come out and say they are owed these big bonuses, and that is kind of an outrage, because the companies would not exist had taxpayers not put money into these -- we bailed out 10 of the 15 largest banks.
1:25 am
he was trading billions of dollars. >greta: if the portfolio goes up, you will make a huge amount of money, and you also lose a lot of money for the company. >> that is the question, his downside. greta: so if he had a smaller portfolio, he would not have been making such huge profits for the bank. >> no, he would not. why is it that these people on wall street feel entitled to these massive amounts of bonuses? in a losing market? in a market where companies lost tens of billions of dollars? the people who should be angry about these kinds of bonuses being paid out, these are not just taxpayers, but shareholders, people own stock in these companies. greta: not to be disrespectful, but betting on the price of oil? basically, this is a guy --
1:26 am
>> look. commodities traders, they do a lot of research. they examine what these things are going to work. they play a role in our capital system. greta: where is the loss of this company was also failing. where were they losing money? >> he was essentially working for a subsidiary of the company, of citi. not every part of the company was losing money. again, this is what he would say. "my component of the company was making money." that is what all of these guys who one bonuses are saying. "we were making money." -- these guys who want bonuses are saying. it is almost rather disgusting. i am in favor of bonuses is people perform, and he did perform, but he was working for a company that failed, and these bonuses have to seize right now until we are out of this crisis.
1:27 am
-- they have to seize right now -- cease right now. greta: coming up, ex-governor palin in her own words. and why is billionaire bill gates losing all of his friends? and what is the no. 1 party college in the country? limb: dude that was sick! i've been hangin' up there for, what, like, forty years? and then - wham - here i am smacking the pretty off that windshield of yours. oh, what you're looking for an apology? well, toss another coin in the wishing well, pal. it's not happenin'. limb: hey, what's up, donnie? how you been? anncr: accidents are bad. anncr:but geico's good ding! with onsite windshield replacement.
