>> jamie: tens of thousands of americans concerned americans, going to washington, d.c. and started in early morning caravan of buses and speakers and entertainers arrived as they stage a massive rally on capitol hill. they are there to try to persuade members of the house and senate and president to oppose the plans that are currently on the table. molly henneberg is live in washington with those concerned americans. what are they telling you. >> molly: this just wrapped up here with the playing of god bless america. except for the front row here. they are still here. what they are calling the taxpayers' march on washington. there were many more than that. it started this morning with a march to the white house. they are protesting government spending and they have been saying enough is enough. they wanted to deliver the
4:01 pm
message in person to their lawmakers. there are some members of congress who are here today and some members of the tea party express. those are people on a bus and stop between california and came to this march today. take a listen to what people had to say. >> we have come from 34 cities, 17 states in 15 days to help restore america. >> i think what has turned out, an unexpected crowd here at the march on washington. it's more than just frustration with the government takeover of health care. it's frankly frustration with the last several years where republican administrations and democratic administrations have been borrowing and spending and bailing this country into a mountain range of debt. these people are about had it. >> molly: joining me now is a
4:02 pm
person from mississippi. why did you want to come out and stand for all these hours, but why did you want to come out today? >> six children, eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, i would like to see them have the life i have had and grow up in the country as wonderful as this one is. >> molly: what is your message to the lawmakers and the president? >> listen to the people and stop spending that you do not have. when i don't have any money, i have to quit spending. congress should do the same thing. it isn't their money. >> molly: that is sort of the sense of what we see here. let me introduce you to this couple that got engaged and came out. when are you getting married? >> we haven't completely decided yet, but what better place to reaffirm our commitment to the country and make a new
4:03 pm
commitment. >> molly: thank you very much. these are the tea parties and culmination of that th event today. >> jamie: incredible turnout. >> gregg: president obama, his appearance in minneapolis setting the scene for a big rally. he cited a new report from the treasury department saying half of americans under the age of 65 will lose their coverage at some point for a month or more. it's assisting his plan offers much needed stability. >> care within the reach of tens of millions of americans who don't have it today. stability and security for hundreds of millions that do. that is the reform bee seek. we have had a long and important debate but now is the time for action because every day we wait more americans will lose their health care, their businesses and their homes, but also the dreams they've worked for and
4:04 pm
the peace of mind they deserve. >> gregg: now the president also apparently taking a swipe at republicans by calling on people to put country before party on the issue. republican scenario john cornyn claiming the president obama is going it alone on health care and it's hurting his chances of delivering common sense reform. take a listen? >> he has paid lip service by rejecting the idea that would build bipartisan support. he has alienate not only independents but republicans as well and ignored the clear wishes of the american people. >> gregg: so president obama was greeted by huge crowd in minneapolis. mike joins us live from that venue. what happened there today? >> gregg, president obama got a warm reception from about 15,000 people at the target center which was the home of the republican convention last
4:05 pm
summer, a swing state. there are thoughts that the governor from minnesota may run against him, so a politically important state. white house was proud to get 15,000 people and let's take a listen. >> minnesota, are you fired up? ready to go? fired up? ready to go? cheered cheered fired up? ready to go! [ cheers and applause ] they can't stop us, let's go get this done. >> reporter: that gives you a sense of the atmosphere, when the president was making a sales pitch without a tie and casual mode. >> gregg: the president talking, mike, about the opposition to his plan, but don't republicans say, hey, you know, we want something in health care fixed, as well. what is that about? >> you are absolutely right. some republicans are saying if
4:06 pm
you are bored about people losing their benefits we'll work on job creation, to give people jobs and people will have benefits. there is a lot of concerns from the republican perspective that we don't need another bloated bureau's in this country. the president should focus on economic policies. >> gregg: mike, thanks very much. president's appearance in that city start of a media blitz. the power to reform health care lies in the hands of congress. david trucker is a staff writer with the washington newspaper, good see you, david. rasmussen shows that the president has changed very few minds with his big speech on wednesday night. more people than not still oppose his ideas on health care
4:07 pm
reform. does that tell you that perhaps it's not the message being delivered but rather the policy which is troubling people? >> i think that is a good point. it's instructive because health care reform, everybody was always for health care reform early on when he brought it up in his administration. what changed is when his goals turned into legislative language and policy. that is when everybody started to oppose what he wanted to do. people still want health care reform but the argument is how you reform the system, that is the disagreement. >> gregg: david, i think it's unfair to just blame republicans for blocking any progress. indeed, it's really democrats within themselves. you've got the liberal group of members of congress who want a government-run public option, moderates and conservatives don't. the president seems to be
4:08 pm
equivocal at best. how do you see that part of the legislation playing out? >> it's very interesting because republicans are nearly unanimous to the president's plan and the plans that democratic congressional leaders would like to push through congress but the numbers are so small but the opposition is irrelevant. the reason it didn't pass over the summer because democrats were divided. you had a number of conservative democrats in the house that refused to vote what the congressional leadership wanted. you've had moderate democrats in the senate that continue to be skittish about what the president wants to do. when they met with him privately this week, 17 moderates, they say they are concerned about cost and how the president intends to pay for his plan. so if the president wants to get health care reform done this year, he has to get all of his democrats on board and get them to vote for a bill. if he does, you'll at least get
4:09 pm
a bill out of the house and even the senate you'll be very close to getting things done. again, republicans, their opposition is important in terms of public opinion, but in terms of the house and senate, it doesn't matter. >> gregg: latest count has 43 senators at best voting in favor of a public option. so even on a reconciliation bill straight up vote, that is not the 51 they need. there is no way you can get a public option passed in the senate, can you? >> i actually at this point think you can get a public insurance option passed in the house or senate. after the townhall meetings --. >> gregg: pelosi says she can. >> she said she had the votes in july but she didn't. she still doesn't have the votes. in the senate, it's still a problem. i don't think in the senate at the end of the day you're going to have a public option passed. i think they may bring it up for
4:10 pm
a vote to satisfy people but after it fails they'll go with a more nonprofit cooperative thing. i think though can do that. you're not going to see a public option. >> gregg: do they have enough for 60 votes in the senate? >> i think if they do it in a particular way. here is what i think about the senate. if they deal with the cost issues at this point and they leave the public option out of it, i think they can get 60 votes. here is the devil and the details and that was the laughter during the president's speech, there are details still to be worked out and there was a roar of laughter into the room. until they get it into legislative language and satisfies people you're not going to see votes. i go back to early in the administration, he said he was for health care reform, everybody applauded but when bills emerged i still have a problem. you still need a bill to emerge
4:11 pm
from committee that satisfies the congress and american public. >> gregg: he changes the terminology. i find it interesting that harry reid is calling eight public option a cooperative. goose good to see you as always. another republican lawmaker is eyeing the seat vacated by ted kennedy. he is scott brown and they say it's time that massachusetts sends an independent and he is referring to his all democratic delegation. he is serving a third senate term. he is the second republican from massachusetts to announce a bid for kennedy's seat. the late senator died of brain cancer after serving in the senate for nearly 50 years. >> jamie: discovery astronauts are back with their families today. the shuttle landing at edwards air force base last night. stormy weather forcing to switch

young university doctoral student who vanished only days before her wedding. she is 24 years old. annie lee who has been missing since tuesday. last seen at her laboratory at her yale school complex. her wedding was to be tomorrow and are now more hundred investigators from four law enforcement agencies are wondering what happened to annie. david lee miller has new details on a from troubling mystery. >> we're getting word that it appears that the law enforcement officials in connecticut are going to hold a news conference in a little more than an hour and 15 minutes to discuss what if any progress there has been in the case. it is significant because as best i can tell this is the first news conference that is going to be held since she disappeared on tuesday. there has been a great deal of speculation about the possibility she may have been a
4:14 pm
bride with cold feet. it now appears that is increasingly unlikely. those that know her said, she looked forward to getting married tomorrow. on her facebook page, she is quoted as having written, lucky to be in love with my best friend. also we should know note that her fiance is not considered a suspect and she cooperating with investigators. hopefully we should learn more about this case in a little more than one hour and 15 minutes when authorities hold their first news conference. >> jamie: there is a $10,000 reward for any information by yale. they are trying to get details to supplement what they have. one thing you didn't mention and i think we should. it's uncanny, ironic but she wrote a column for the paper on campus about dangers and crime and how she would keep herself
4:15 pm
safe as a woman on campus? >> she wrote a magazine article crime and safety in new haven. she talked specifically, this is irony that you mention, about not becoming a static. during the course of researching this article, she actually spent a great deal of time interviewing the police chief for yale university. he now is one of the lead investigators so desperately trying to track her down. i suspect we'll be hearing in him in just about one hour and 15 minutes about if any progress has been made on the case. she was very smart woman, very well educated and earning a doctorate. she wrote an article to warn women and others that attend yale university about possible risks the risks that new haven may have and what precautions they should take. ironic that many now fear she may have become one of those statistics. >> jamie: david lee miller, we
4:16 pm
put the number at the bottom. f.b.i. is taking calls. if anyone has information, please call. we'll look forward to the news conference. there is a new task force that is just set up in virginia to try to solve the murders of two virginia tech students. they were both found dead together at a national forest last month. they are saying federal, state and local officers are working together but trying to find leads in the case. here is the local sheriff. >> unsolved homicides across the united states all over the place. we do not want this to be one. as long as i'm in office and the men and women working here, we're committed, we're committed ourselves to solve this. >> jamie: heidi's father was state trooper and they are looking at number different theories. for any information for that
4:17 pm
case, the task force begin work on wednesday. >> gregg: heavy rain pounding the alone star state. that is great news for southern texas, but flood watches and warnings in effect in northern parts of the state. domenica davis is following it all in the fox weather center. >> it is a lot of rain and yesterday, all the way into oklahoma and goes all the way across the gulf states even to florida. low pressure system that is off the gulf. so many places in oklahoma saw six inches of rain. you will see likely six to 12 inches through sunday. a lot more rain coming down and that is only going to aggressive the runoff problem they are having now. we do have flash flooding watches and warnings posted from texas all the way up into oklahoma.
4:18 pm
oklahoma has been the hardest hit and that is where we have the heaviest rainfall on the radar. those yellows they are getting some significant downpours. unfortunately through sunday, we dove a flash flood warning especially pay attention for that this evening. over to the gulf states and over to the florida area, as you mentioned, this part of the country they do need the rain but it's a little too much too quick. >> gregg: it's never just right. domenica davis, thanks. >> jamie: the key to defeating the taliban in afghanistan could be cracking down on that country huge drug trade. special forth are conducting raids to do just that. check out this incredible video, he was along for the lied. a look at the dangerous operations from inside. that is straight ahead.

virtually unreported unit. dea advisory and support team. this unit was brought here to rapidly exploit hard intelligence with direct action that is exactly what they do. last night we went on a raid with the team alpha, a special operations command and afghan commandos to take down a kingpin in the opium support network. we flew low level to the objective area and landed at first light. the element of surprise was complete. fast and other personnel deployed around the compound, they conducted a search of every structure, detaining a male for questioning and only gunfire from a sniper team was more than effective. opium and chemicals for making

ide's were burned and blown up with an explosive charge before going out under the cover of a u.s. gunship. they targeted operations aimed at cutting the link between the taliban and opium trade are a force ultimate prior. this campaign and i think we should expect many of more of them in the days ahead. i'm oliver north for fox news. >> jamie: acorn that you've been hearing about, fox news has been covering it. they are embroid in yet another scandal but the government keeps shelling out big time cash to the group more than a million bucks, why one lawmaker says it's time for a congressional investigation into acorn's practices. you got to hear this one.

hurricane can i, new flash floods, at least 31 people killed by the downpours since last monday. >> gregg: census bureau cutting all ties with acorn. bureau reacting to this tape showing acorn workers assisting a man and woman claiming to be involved in a prostitution ring. acorn has received millions of dollars of your taxpayer money over the past 15 years and could get, get this, as much as $8.5 billion in the future. what should congress do about it? joining us is iowa congressman steve king of the house judiciary committee. congressman king, do you believe that acorn is a systemically corrupt organization? >> i do. i call them a criminal enterprise for some time. there is a systemically corrupt.
4:31 pm
we have to look inside their operations. there are two cities in baltimore and washington, we saw the people that are carrying it out and we saw the mindset of how you gain in government and promote other criminal enterprises. >> a criminal enterprise is in violation of federal racketeering laws. should there be a department of justice investigation into acorn and whether it's a racketeering organization? >> i think that acorn makes mafia look like a bunch of bikers. they are broad and 120 cities. we need a justice investigation and we need irs audits of every single enterprise that has been an affiliate. 361 that were identified by the non-partisan report that was issued last july.
4:32 pm
we need a justice department investigation. we feed to examine every affiliated enterprise that is there and a congressional investigation. >> gregg: congressman you are making pretty serious charges. i'm on your website and i'll quote you. you say, quote, nancy pelosi, john conyers, barney frank and other democrats continue to protect acorn. do you have any evidence of that? >> i point to the six or seven amendments to eliminate funding to acorn that have been blocked by them. i point my finger directly to nancy pelosi for the systemic deacon instruction of democracy and shutting down a process so a member of congress can't even offer an amendment to get a load on cutting funding acorn. that is protecting them. barney franks brought out two or
4:33 pm
three authorizations, that is the total $8.5 billion that acorn could qualify for. he has systematically protected acorn. i think -- john conyers, as well. at one point he was for congressional hearings. there soe there won't be congressional hearings over acorn. jerry nadler the chairman of the judiciary, let me see evidence he'll consider hearings on acorn. i don't think how much evidence he needs to see. so is nancy pelosi. >> gregg: john conyers several months ago called for hearings on congress and then suddenly he called them off. why? >> he said that the powers that be had decided it didn't reach that level. >> gregg: who are the powers that be? >> i thought about that. there are only two answers to that. one would be john conyers
4:34 pm
referring to himself and a an oblique way or the president of the united states himself. that is the only people that could make that call. perhaps nancy pelosi but i think not. we should look at president obama's record. he is acorn. he coached acorn. he is an acorn alum and now hired them to recruit people to run the census. i know they will cut the ties but obama is tied up in this thing deeply. the more we learn, we understand how closely he is tied. >> gregg: you are suggesting here obstruction of justice by the president of the united states, calling off an investigation on capitol hill where there appears to be plenty of evidence of a criminal enterprise. >> they didn't have the investigation going. i'm calling for congressional hearing, that is what john conyers referenced when he said he thought there should be hearings on acorn. i wouldn't go as far as to say
4:35 pm
obstruction of justice but we know how the lines of power work. if he says to rahm emanuel or chicago political dialogue that they have inside the white house that he is not interested in acorn being brought under the spotlight of american media or congressional hearing, rahm emanuel has the ability to pass that message down through the grapevine to pelosi and nadler and others. that is how the system works. if you get real evidence of it, i can tell you there are a partisan organization and get out the vote for democrats. they are funded by america's taxpayers. i went their headquarters in new orleans, i took a picture of myself a huge obama poster at their national headquarters, obama for president will. they are 501 not for profit. >> gregg: and they are under investigation in 14 states, which is pretty amazing. yet, using taxpayer money for oh
4:36 pm
veteranly partisan reasons is a violation of federal law. representative steve king, keep in touch with us. thanks very much. >> thank you, gregg, i appreciate it. >> jamie: you saw how tens of thousands of people are speaking about what they are calling government spending that is out of control. also on health care you may have been watching the republican congressman who shouted out at the president during his address on weather. he is sitting down with fox. when president obama said his health care reform plan would not cover illegal immigrants, south carolina lawmaker joe wilson yelled, you lie. he will be talking to fox about his outburst and why he disagrees with the president when he joins host chris wallace. that is at 6:00 p.m. eastern only on fox. meanwhile, beijing is condemning a white house decision that impose trade penalties on production and

manufacturer of chinese tires. the chinese government is describing president obama's new action as protectionist and a violation of global trade rules. all car and light truck tires that are coming from china. president obama says the tariffs are designed to protect american tire makers but not intended to spark a trade war. but critics say that he is pleasing to union leaders. have you heard this? general motors unveiling a bold new marketing strategy on monday telling you if you are looking to buy a car, buy one of theirs, you don't like it you just bring it back and you get a full reif fund no questions asked within 60 days. is this a savvy business move or a sign of desperation from a struggling automaker. joining me to talk about it is patricia powell, founder and ceo
4:38 pm
of the powell financial group. i knew you could bring back certain things, but a car that you've driw, under 4,000 miles you can take it back and turn over the keys? >> that is what they say. i went on the website and read through the terms and conditions it seems pretty straightforward. only certain brands, you have to be a chevy or cadillac. you can't be looking at a hummer. if you are current on your payments, you can't be behind on your payments, they are willing to take it back. you have to drive it for 30 days. at the end, you have another 30-day period you can take it back if you don't want it. >> jamie: i know you thought of this. you get the car you can't afford and bring it back, it's lost some of the value, the minute you drive it off the lot, it drops in price. can you buy it then for less?
4:39 pm
>> that is a great question. you are absolutely right. when a car leaves the lot it goes down by about 20%. now, somebody brings it back, it's down because it's a iced car. you may have consumers trying to bargain with the dealer. i want $4,000 off the price because it's no longer a new car. this is a sign of desperation on gm's part. >> is it time for them to do what they can, cash for clunkers time to think right out of the box to bring people back on the lot? >> i'm sure that is what they think. i'm very dubious this is going to be a productive use of their resources. quite frankly, i think weren't so heavily backed by the u.s. government this would never come into play. after all, it's only money and it happens to be our money, not theirs. >> how involved is the government in a decision like
4:40 pm
this, if gm decides to run this program, do they have to get approvals outside the company? >> i can only speculate on that. i don't have specific information to answer it directly but i would speculate with you and say yes, they have to have some kind of approval on it. there are car czars and committees. this isn't something, they are betting the bank on this particular move. >> jamie: all right, pat powell, it sounds sweet. go for it. >> gregg: the mystery surrounding a student intensifies. she was to be a bride tomorrow or today. she is the focus of a very intense search. what happened to the 24-year-old student. why are investigators now questioning a university professor? we'll have the latest when we come back and a news conference scheduled for less than an hour from now. how does jell-o sugar free pudding fit all that rich,

4:45 pm
joining me is staff write writer for "new york daily news", who is on the phone with the latest on the investigation and awaiting that news conference. thanks for being with us, matt. do you know why they have called the news conference? >> i have some rather disturbing news to report. we can confirm that bloody clothing was found in the last hours in ceiling tiles where annie was last seen. university has refused to comment on the evidence but the press conference might have something, may be they have recovered her body. we haven't confirmed that yet. i can also tell you this morning investigators were questioning the young man outside the lab, the man was taken into their car and driven away. >> jamie: so we they may have initially spoken to a professor
4:46 pm
that cancelled a class the day she disappeared, a class she would have attended. i went and looked at the yale campus newspaper and they said they thought the report may have been overblown on the professor's interest to police. do you know anything about that? >> yeah, the police did question according to my sources, a professor that cancelled at the last second a class. this was before the announcement was made that annie was missing. now, the university has refused to speak to us about this. what they said in the yale paper and what they say other sources, i can only speculate about. when i spoke to someone this morning and asked them to repeat the story, they said they couldn't. they wouldn't say it wasn't true, but a university spokesman they have questioned university professor, but they have questioned everybody who has had contact with her.
4:47 pm
>> jamie: tell me about the report that you have heard that her body may have been found or, you said bloody clothing had been found? what else do we know and where is this information coming from? >> law enforcement sources have said that bloody clothing was found in the ceiling tiles of the research building where she was last seen. as far as whether her body has been recovered yet there is speculation, that will be the statement that will be made but i haven't been able to confirm this yet. >> jamie: this is information that will be confirmed or not confirmed at this press conference. we want to leave it to the law enforcement officials to fell us exactly officially. what is happening on the campus in terms of the students? >> everybody is very jittery right now. this is small community. new haven isn't a small town but it has a small town feel to it.
4:48 pm
there is a sense of just real apprehension. when the news came out about the bloody clothing being found, probable sense of foreboding came over everybody. some people from the community have also gathered near the spot. yeah, it's very tense right now. >> jamie: to say the least. do you know if her fiance is in the area. she columbia student. he was cooperating with authorities according to police sources? >> it is unusual with missing person's cases. all the relatives want to get media exposure for the victim. in this case we have not been able to speak to family or the fiance at all. i think they are playing it
4:49 pm
close. >> jamie: we thank you for joining us, matt. i want to let everyone know, the news conference at 5:30 will be seen with the very latest developments in this case. >> gregg: still ahead, we bring you the answers you need on the h1n1 vaccine. when you get can get it and will there be enough to go around? what about taking this vaccine with the regular flu shot? we'll pose the questions to a doctor next. bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb
4:52 pm
4:53 pm
the body of missing yale student annie ee lee has been found inside the building where she was last seen, which seems to dovetail the information we have a guest just moments ago with the "new york daily news". we will find out more when the news conference begins in about, i don't know, 35 minutes or so. >> jamie: also we've been talking about h1n1 and as we head into the flu season, there are so many questions remain unanswered about the vaccine. there is a new study that says only one dose will be enough to protect you against the virus. that comes as welcome news to a lot of people, when when can you get it and when will there be enough to go around. >> gregg: here to answer the questions, dr. patty dr. of medicine at bronx hospital. i'm a typical parent, two girls
4:54 pm
going back to school, when will the vaccine be available and where do i get it? >> word is it's coming out shortly, hopefully by october, mid-october. the best place to get the vaccine would be at your local pediatrician or general practitionerser's office. >> jamie: because of the millions of people that will be getting it, they'll have more centers. this one, unlike the seasonal flu shot will be free. would you rather for any reason, children or pregnant women, would you es mait at a time if you're not in that category to have yourself vaccinated? >> obviously its personal choice. my recommendations, i'm going to be getting a shot. i've been getting vaccinations because of the environment i'm in. track records are very safe. there are some concerns
4:55 pm
regarding the rapid production of this vaccine. people should read as much information and discuss it with their doctor. >> gregg: this vaccination is still being tested. i've spoken to four doctors, yourself included. three of the doctors including yourself say it's safe. a fourth doctor by the name of kent who is an expert on infectious diseases. here is what he said. >> i have more concern about the vaccine than i do have about the swine flu. there are high levels of adjunct that make it more potent. it's unrefined method. >> one of them is an antiseptic that is used in preservatives and there are conflicting studies that the chemical is
4:56 pm
