tv Glenn Beck FOX News September 18, 2009 2:00am-3:00am EDT
2:00 am
go to the forum. we will see you tomorrow night on the fox news channel, the most powerful name in news. bill o'reilly starts at the top of the [captioning made possible by fox news channel] captioned by the national captioning institute ---www.ncicap.org--- glenn: welcome to the glenn beck program. tonight, these are the questions we have to ask ourselves. why does congress even matter anymore? wait until you see what is going on in washington. two, does the constitution matter? today is the anniversary of the signing of the constitution. i'm going to play the words of some of our congressmen, people who have taken an oath to protect and defend that constitution. i'm going to play some words. i don't think we're on the same page of the constitution, and three, has anything good moved forward recently? you wouldn't think so if it were up to the fringe media, but tonight i'll show you the truth. if you believe this country is great but all that is
2:01 am
necessary for evil to triumph is that good men do nothing, then stand up. come on. follow me. well, hello, america. you know, i have been saying for a while that the paradigm is about to change, and it is. just a few months ago, a few months ago, i had to come on this program on march 13 and say you are not alone. find your voice. a lot of people didn't feel like their voice mattered at all. the frustration of that led you to stand up and find somebody else and demand, many for the first time, that your voice be heard. people have come out of the woodwork. they have gone to town hall meetings, and, like, stood up to these powerful clowns and you did it. look how far you've come. politicians were ignoring you. now they fear you.
2:02 am
you know what? a lot of people in the fringe media will say he is preaching fear. yeah, yeah, yeah. exactly the way george washington said. i hate to quote thomas jefferson o'er ben franklin, but yes, the politicians should hear. it is healthy for a republic. we'll vote you out! that kind of fear, because we are awake and we are watching the weasels. have you noticed the cockroaches scatter as the lights go on? we will calm out those who are not protecting and defending the constitution of the united states, because the purpose of a just government is to prevent plunder, not facilitate it, and that is exactly what has happened. anybody who stands up in the beltway against corruption, i want you to hear this. america will stand with you. i believe republicans, democrats and independents if you stand up inside the beltway, even if you have been part of the problem in the past and you say look, look, i'll take my lumps, if it
2:03 am
means i have to go in front of a judge and jury, i will, but please, i just want out. let me tell you something, if you help clean up the mess, we'll stand with you. we would just like america to be here, you know, for the next generation, and besides, america loves forgiveness and repentance. the atonement is real. use it. this is an amazing country. we had 56 founders, 56 brave, good, decent human beings. i was reading thomas jefferson about a week ago and it gave me an idea. 56 people founded this country. we don't need to fundamentally transform this country. we need to refound it. that's what we need to do, so all it took was 56, so why should it be any different from today? let's look for 56 people out of the 535 people in congress, men and women, and find 56 who will stand up to the
2:04 am
corruption, stand up to the special interests, stand up in your own party! don't be a republican and tell me how much the democrats suck. i don't want to hear it. i'm tired of it. clean up your own party, and democrats, do the same damn thing. stand up to what washington, d.c. has become. i don't want to take my kids there, and say this is our nation's capital, close your eyes, kids, oh, good lord, don't look there. it used to be a place of pride. it used to be a place we could look at. sorry if i'm a little jimmy stewart on you in "mr. smith goes to washington," but that's what it should be, so become a refounder. i want you to know, if you are a politician, you won't get a dime of publicity from this. i won't rat you out. i won't say who you are. this isn't something you can say, oh, my gosh, that tea party movement, that's big, i could pretend to be one of those guys for a while. you actually need to demonstrate it.
2:05 am
we will keep you anonymous so you can help us weed out the weasels, such as the tax dodgers like charlie rangel, or you know, those people who are still supporting core corrupt organizations like acorn, or my favorite today, john murtha's airport. oh, you don't know about john murtha's airport? oh, it's beautiful. oh, look at it. it's spectacular, especially this time of the year, you know, as fall starts to set in. according to a report from abc news, it has got a $7 millionnaire traffic control tower, a $14 million hangar, an $18 million state-of-the-art runway. it's sweet i hear. it's got everything a modern airport should be equipped with, you know, except anybody flying out of there. well, they have planes flying out of there. they have three flights a day, uh-huh. guess where all of the flights go to? washington, d.c.
2:06 am
it is easier on john murtha. he's tired. he's like, i got to go home and i don't want to go to an airport that's like 50 miles away. i want one right there. i'm glad we could make that happen for you, john. the airport has received over $150 million in your money! and then another $800,000 in stimulus money to repave an alternate runway. why? was it in disrepair from the unuse? the airport in barrel, alaska, to give you a little idea, 320 miles north of the arctic circle. nobody's going there. 37,000 people went through that airport at the top of the world. who is going there? murtha's airport, 6,700. there was a vote today to cut off all federal funding to this waste of taxpayer money. yeah. no, they didn't cut it off.
2:07 am
i'm so tired of hearing about, oh, we got to act fast. we're in so much trouble! we got to act fast! we got to have healthcare right away or we're going to go broke! i'm also tired of hearing we are the richest country in the world, we ought to be able to afford blah blah blah blah blah. let me ask you this question. think of your street at your house. think of the richest person on your street. let's just say you live down the street and there is somebody with the biggest house there. they got a great cadillac s.u.v. and maybe they got a lexus sitting there. they go on the best vacations. they have all the finest label in clothing. their kids are, like, you know, they let their kids have those cars that the little kids drive, and i always wanted one as a kid and my dad was like, are you dumb, you know how much those cost, those kids that are, like electric? are they the richest person in your neighborhood? maybe. what happens if their house
2:08 am
has been repossessed and they lose their cars and their kids are crying say no, they're taking away my little barbie car! are they still the richest people in the neighborhood, or were they just the people who spent the most money? we're not the richest nation in the world anymore. we used to be. now we just spend the most money. there is no more money. they're about to take our houses from us. if you understand that, wouldn't it be a no boehner to not no brainer to spend $100 million a year on an airport that one dirtbag uses to make dirty deals with other dirtbags that nobody wants? pa to congress. these are the republicans that have so much spite. you know the republicans, they just -- they're in there pitching for you. they just want to make sure that we keep our spending down. yeah. they voted to fund the airport
2:09 am
that nobody uses. the bill was defeated, by the way, 43-53, but voinovich here from ohio, yeah, he's like, oh, that sounds like a good deal, $20 million for john's airport and this is kit bond, it is a show-me state, show me out of office! all i'm asking is for 56 people to help weed people like these out. ohio and missouri, you now know if these guys say no, i'm for small spending, they're lying to you. show them the door. if you can't stop john murtha's airport, you're incapable of stopping anything and it's not hard to find corruption in washington, d.c. i'll hope you figure that out in washington. maxine waters, her husband, a cute story here. her husband is on the board of a bank that received $12
2:10 am
million in bailout funding, and that just happened three months after waters helped arrange a meeting between officials at the bank and the treasury department representatives? isn't that great? what a love story. charlie rangel has a love story of his own. here is a guy who has forgotten to pay taxes on more money than you make in a lifetime at $2.4 million, he just forgot, oh, my gosh, i forgot about that $2.4 million. how about john conyers? he had personal aides working on his wife's election campaign. his wife, you got to remember ler, monica conyers. oh, she is so great. she was just convicted back in june on federal bribery charges in a sludge hauling scandal. i love those sludge handling scandals. can i ask you a question -- has the swine flu already hit and killed most of the population and i'm just not aware of it? i mean, that's a possible terrorism i have been watching
2:11 am
the news on other channels, so maybe that happened and nobody is reporting on it. i just can't figure it out. if the swine flu thing didn't happen and wipe out most of the population, why are we so low on citizens that we can't find people to serve that haven't been in jail? i don't know. and then murtha, of course, he's got the airport thing. he's also linked to a lobbying firm that has been raided by the f.b.i. two times. timothy geithner he couldn't figure out turbotax but he's the only guy that could figure out how to fix the economy. he failed to pay his taxes and he's our treasury secretary, oh, and he also runs the i.r.s. then you have what came out today, the outright lies coming from the white house. you decide. i hate to call anybody a liar. you tell me. it's the cap and trade energy bill. we want to thank our friend chris horner at cei for pointing this out to us. chris, watchdog, thank you very much.
2:12 am
this is a document behind me. this is something that the department of the treasury did for the white house and the government, so, you know, they could be informed. i want you to take a look at the date. it's march 9, 2009. you remember that date. this is when the white house got this, and then it just was buried, lost. we had to get it through a freedom of information act. look at the document, because in the document, it says "a cap and trade program could generate receipts on the order of $100 billion to $200 billion annually." wow, that's a lot. in fact, it's so much it's the equivalent of hiking personal income taxes by about 15%. bigger is always better. that's $1,761 a year per household, all of us, every one. ok. that's back in march. march 9, 2009, the department
2:13 am
of tresh i issues a report and says here, mr. president, boy, that looks like it is going to suck. it is going to cost $1,761. got it? now let's fast forward to april 20, 2009. march -- april -- i'm not very good with numbers and calendar stuff, because that's complicated, because there are 12 whole months out of the year, but i think april comes after the ort came out. here is hen i waxman, you know, from the waxman markly energy bill. he said this -- >> the cost of the bill that mr. markey and i in this analysis says the bill will cost the average family less than 40 cents per day. >> you know, i'm not very good with numbers but i think $1,761 is more than 40 cents.
2:14 am
i'm not a congressman. if you look at the treasury estimates, waxman is only underestimating the cost by 1200%. now, let's fast forward a little further. listen to president obama. remember, march 9, 2009, department of the treasury. here is their confidential analysis. "dear, mr. president, it's going to cost a lot of money." let's listen to what president owe obama estimated on june 25. >> in a decade, the price to the average american will be about the same as a postage stamp per day. >> wow. i think he just did it, too, 1200%, but he was a little more careful. he did actually say in a decade from now. he didn't mention that today that stamp would cost $1,6761!
2:15 am
i'm just saying. he's very accurate, because that's the new stamp. i have a question. did the p president of the united states tell the people in congress about this? facts are stubborn. don't they suck? it is always the coverup that gets you. march 9. june 25. mr. president, did you tell congress about prior estimates? that, you know, that you knew about? or did you just kind of keep it secret and hide it away from them and those pesky american people? i want to show you something that i said a few weeks ago. i was talking directly to the democrats. i was telling them wake up. democrats in congress, wake up! you are being played and you're being bypassed. look at all of the czars. i mean, what do you think they're for? look, they don't answer to
2:16 am
anybody. look, the presidents have had czars for a long time. woodrow wilson, he was spooky. f.d.r. spooky with the czars. some of the people, you know, they had a bunch of drinking buddies like, oh, would you just make this guy go away? fine. you want to put them in as special advisors and they don't have any muscle or power. wasn't it carol browner who said that? hey, i don't ever want to see this in writing as she' talking to the car company, yeah, that kind of spooky power f they have real power, it's a problem. this guy, woodrow wilson, he was a progressive just like this president. he talked about, you know, ways to get things done by going around congress. guess what? this is a progressive in the white house. that's what he's doing. he's going right around congress. when are you going to wake up, congress? this is what i said on june 30. >> senator, i have to tell you, i think congress is
2:17 am
overplaying their hand, and more importantly, i think they are being outplayed and outmaneuvered. i think they are making themselves irrelevant to a massive new federal framework that obama seems to be erecting with all kinds of czars and everything else. i mean, the great thing about these $1,761 stamps, they're huge. why, i could just have a nice huge iced tea right now. i've been asking questions. i got another one for you. congress, do you even matter anymore? i mean, think this through. you're not even writing the bills. the apollo alliance, they're the ones who wrote the stimulus package. i mean, you might have had a little something to do with it, like read part of it, because you're not read all of it. are you even being told how to vote by the powers that be
2:18 am
like john conyers was about acorn? what are you doing? you you are sitting on the sidelines while the country is being trance transformed by the fringe media. i like what our founders set up, you know what i mean? if you are in congress and you are watching, or you work with somebody or you know somebody in congress, i encourage you, please, please become one of the 56. you know what's happening better than anybody else. you know where the bodies are buried. i hope that isn't literal, but help us please, please. clean up the country. clean up the corruption. get rid of the special favors, the special interests. it belongs to we, the people, not to those people! republicans, democrats, independents, are you telling me we can't solve any crisis, any problem? are you telling me we can't build a car better than anybody else in the world? you're telling me that we can't have the best healthcare in the world and share it with everybody else?
2:19 am
of course we can. have energy? yes! once we have honest brokers at the table who aren't beholden to special interests and building their own damn airports. by the way, we now have our very first of the 56. will you put this up? the very first of the 56. we got one! it's a start. they are now working on your behalf to root out the corruption in their own party first. i'm waiting for that next call. senator, congressmen, will it be you? i hope so. >> covering ice cream socials and then to the cover of "time" magazine. what does glenn have in store for us next?r in your home can e

2:23 am
glenn: so, refounders have to promise -- remember, the refounders project where we get people in washington that will rat on their own party. refounder have to, when they call or contact us, they have to be willing to actually do this and know they won't get a bit of publicity. no one will know who they are. we have had one that has been on the fence for a while, and he just watched the opening of the program and he saw what happened today, and he said make that two. two refounders.
2:24 am
gee now that there's two, are they in the democrat party or the republican party? i hope you in washington don't become paranoid. it is constitution day. i feel like singing. ♪ it's constitution day but i take it seriously and i know you do, too. our founding fathers signed a document that would forever make this nation the greatest democracy republic in the world if we paid attention to it. the document that should be preserved, protected an defended, our leaders have promised they would, but have you noticed lately some of those promises, you know, aren't always kept. watch.
2:25 am
>> i barack hussein obama swear to defend and protect the constitution of the united states, the original constitution, i think it is an imperfect document and a document that he reflects some deep flaws in american culture, the colonial culture based on that time. i think we can say that the constitution reflected an enormous blind spot in the culture in that the framers had that same blind spot. it also reflected the fundamental flaw of this country that continues to this day.
2:26 am
>> i timothy geithner will support an defend the constitution of the united states, that congress has legislated in the emergency stabilization act arrange a very important new authority. >> what in the constitution could you point to to give authority to the treasury for the extraordinary actions that have been taken? >> every action that the treasury and the fed and the fdic has been using authority granted by this body, by the congress. >> and in the constitution, what could you point to? >> under the laws of the land, of course. >> if you could point to what point in the constitution would give authority to the federal reserve? ought congress has the right to authorize funds which is what they did in the tarp program. we have taken it solely for protecting the american economy from the effects of a financial collapse. >> the constitution as almost every justice will tell you
2:27 am
is, in fact, a living document. the constitution moves with us through time and space. it is a living document that we all must adopt within the confines in which we live. >> do you solemnly swear that you will support and defend the constitution of the united states? >> i do. >> it turns out, we actually need an international criminal court. we actually need one. it served the purposes of the bush administration. >> i think if they were smart, they would say let's use an international criminal court to support a human rights agenda.
2:28 am
glenn: look out, washington, because this is all of our country, not yours. you actually work for us. i don't know if you picked that up. you should pick up the constitution and read it, because the american people, we the people, are about to fire you all. i'll show you how ordinary people have made just an quality and reliability... are more than words here. it's personal. i have diabetes. rodney's kid too. so we're so proud to manufacture... the accu-chek® aviva meters and test strips... here in the u.s.a. plus, we've proven you'll waste 50% fewer strips... when you use our meter, which means greater savings... for people with diabetes, like me. now that's a true american value. accu-chek® aviva. born in the u.s.a.
2:33 am
glenn: there is so much of the news that i don't really understand. this morning, i got up and i had to call my daughter at 6:45 and i said "honey, just don't go by a newsstand for the next week, because your dad is on the cover of time." it's a mad man. oh, yeah. the family loves it. no, they really do it's funny, because i read this stuff. i read what the fringe media says about me, and really, you. this article talks about how i'm stoking fear and anger, and yeah, profiting off of fear and anger. yet in "time" magazine, this story is flu phobia, how fear goes viral and what you can do, and the meltdown, one year later, why the system is still broken. panic, everybody! do they see it?
2:34 am
i don't think they do. you and i apparently are just, you know, mindless rednecks and you do whatever i tell you to do. this shouldn't have been the cover of time. this should have been the cover of time, because once again, the fringe media just -- you told me in advance, like, hold it up. there we go. do you expect me to listen? the media doesn't get it. they blame me and completely underestimate you. maybe the fringe media should spend more time looking into the possibility that the 9/12ers and the tea party protestors are not mindly fox news zombies and they're just actually concerned citizens, but that's not the story line that abc and cbs and nbc need, you know, so they can go down their own path. look at how they reacted to the stories that we have talked about. when we covered the 9/12 project and the tea party movement protests, they were mocked. here is what some of the blogs actually said. huffington post, which i read
2:35 am
all the time "i watched one of the most bizarre t.v. shows that i have ever seen, glenn beck's 9/12 special on fox news. i don't even know what it had to do with 9/11." how about this one? other than completely coopting it for tea parties, fox news, dissent and, oh, yes, glenn beck." glenn beck promised that the 9/12 protest would be huge, partly because he was one of the primary promotors of the event." trying to make this one as he was just trying to make a statement, a self-fulfilling prophecy today, beck exaggerated the crowd size estimates on his radio show." we covered acorn. oh, no, i'm sorry, that's not them saying that. they haven't covered acorn. we have. and here's what the fringe media felt about the acorn thing. watch this. >> the embarrassing video of an acorn staffer giving tax
2:36 am
advice on how to set up a brothel with hookers t has corruption, sleazy operations, government ties, but nobody is covering that story, why? >> i don't even know about it, so you have got me at a loss. i don't know. my goodness, if it's got everything including sleaziness in it, we should talk about t >> the moon fell out of the sky? what? how about the self-avowed communist van jones and the czars. van jones was not -- this was not a big guy in the white house administration. if we're all going to focus on trying to figure out who van jones and his past relationships when you go number 600 down on the list of white house staff, es is that the best use of the time of the mainstream media? we'll see. clearly some on the right had objections to van jones, and they successfully got the white house to sever ties.
2:37 am
glenn: yeah. wait until you watch tomorrow's show. it's going to drive them crazy! the white house wrote this pathetic defense of the czars on their blog. many of the arbitrarily labeled czars on beck's list are senate-confirmed appointees or advisory roles carried over from previous administrations." the big defense here is that some of the czars are confirmed? oh, i feel so much better and warm inside, you know, that a guy that wants to give animals aite to sue humans and wants a new deal for the first amendment and a second bill of rights was confirmed by the senate. wow! thank you, white house. the only thing the media thinks is worth covering is the angry conservatives. they're dangerous for america! let me address the mad and angry thing here. i don't know about the rest of
2:38 am
america, but yep, i'm mad! you saw the last segment? we got a president who says the constitution is fundamentally gnawed. really -- is fundamentally flawed? really? i like the constitution. sure, it does make me angry that some want to abate it like it is some sort of legal inconvene quence instead of the foundation of our society and freed the entire planet, changed everything, candles to electric lights. what a coincidence it happened after men were free. let's change it, what do you say, not in the cover of dark ness. yeah, i think a lot of people in the audience are angry. a lot of people in america are angry, the same way gandhi was angry. the same way martin luther king was angry. it's too bad we didn't have nancy pelosi back then to tell america to watch out for that angry martin luther king, because he was so forceful in his speeches, he must be dangerous. >> i think we all have to take responsibility for our actions and our words.
2:39 am
we are a free country, and this balance between freedom and safety is one that we have to carefully balance. i have concerns about some of the language that is being used because i saw this myself in the late '70's in san francisco, this kind of rhetoric was very frightening. i wish that we would all again curb our enthusiasm. glenn: curb our enthusiasm? here is a good show. i haven't watched it, but i wish we would too, nancy. you saw that stuff happening in san francisco in the '70's? is that when jim jones the communist got everybody to drink kool-aid. no, it was too early for van jones, who was setting up storm in san francisco. which one is it? oh, i know! maybe it was the weather underground that you guys are hanging out with now? is it that group?
2:40 am
help me. fill me in on that. keep letting your voices be heard and learn the lesson of gandhi and martin luther king. when you have the truth and the people behind you, it is powerful, a powerful thing. let me please quote frederick douglass. "weapons of war we have cast from the battle. truth is our armor, our watch word is love. let the fringe media keep ignoring you. let them keep calling you names. you don't need them. you're making progress with no thanks to them. they need you. they need you to think the opposite of that. this whole system has been built to tell you you're not really complete without thisser certain product or certain label you're buying or certain philosophy or certain politician or certain network. it's a lie. you have everything you need. you come to earth complete. as long as you have the truth. coming up, i'll show you what ordinary everyday dangerous

glenn: what used to be called the mainstream media, i think we should call the fringe media because they are so out of step with everyday americans. i want you to look at what you have accomplished in just the last few really weeks. self avowed communist, van jones. he resigns. n.e.a. employee reassigned. acorn corruption. we talk about this. they make fun of us, and now it is exposed. did you hear what happened today? i will go with byron york in a second. cars.gov are transparency. they put this thing up on the

computers if by the way if you log on here your computer becomes part of federal government property. what? we talk about it. they made fun of us and then they take it down. how about congress and czar accountability? do we have the audio of all the people coming to the plate now? listen to this. they made fun of us on the czar thing. i think we have some pretty powerful people now coming to the plate and saying we've got to have accountability on these czars, and strangely enough, it's from this president's own party. watch this. >> i am very curious about how the white house sort of thought through some of these lower-level appointees -- i mean, not so lower level. i think that during the campaign they should used a masterful understanding of the way the media works and the way that people respond to certain kinds of allegations. it seems like they really had no idea this was going to be a problem, and that disturbs me more than anything.
2:47 am
>> she's from media matters. who were the other two, tiffany? do you have the audio of the other two in congress? this is -- who is this? russ feingold. "specifically, i ask that you identify these individuals' roles and responsibilities and provide the judgments of our legal advisors as to whether and how these positions are consistent with the appointments clause." rut-ro, george. then -- i had a cupcake before i went on the air. i'm wired with sugar. then you had what's her name. there she is, i love good old what's her name. feinstein. she said she thinks it a problem when the white house appoints someone to a czar position that is clearly not defined. i don't know what a car czar does, for example, she said. hmm. looks like the crazy man and you not so crazy. wait until you hear the latest
